My guest in this clip: Scott Ritter.

I'm no Mark Antony, but I do know when someone has been made out to be a tragic figure (a la Caesar) whether they deserved it or not.

Here's the fact, in "Regular Joe" terms, not like a Shakespearean scholar: Scott Ritter tried to warn us to stay the hell out of Iraq.

We didn't listen. Now, he's warning about Afghanistan.

Should we listen?

Well, do you think Scott Ritter can persuade our president and the American people to leave Afghanistan? Or Iraq? I hated what happened in Nam and I hated these two conflicts in Iran and Afghanistan. why bring our soldiers home?

Do we always have to blame GWBush? About Ritter–who knows?

CubanMom   November 3rd, 2009 4:15 pm ET

Scott Ritter .... and MILLIONS of us, Americans KNOW that the Bush Wars have been mistakes!

Yes, Afghanistan is another Vietnam!

President Obama may have to sacrifice a second term in office in order to end this senseless wars!

62% of Americans believe Afghanistan is another Vietnam!

leslie sylvan   November 3rd, 2009 4:18 pm ET

As a former resident of both Palm Beach and Sutton Place, one simply needs to walk a few blocks to see the disproportionate number of police stations to realize that money does talk. In the palm beaches, the draw bridges are immediately lifted upon robbery alert, and the shore lines are covered with both police boats and helicopters, so the perps can't escape the island. In the real world, more tax dollars equal greater protection.

Wayne   November 3rd, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Scott Ritter... Newsflash: Gen McChrystal doesn't work for Joe Biden. The Vice President is NOT in the chain of command.

Kim   November 3rd, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Lincoln had to replace Mc Clellan with Grant because he wouldn't use the troops he always said he needed more troops

weedwonker   November 3rd, 2009 4:33 pm ET

Ritter is correct. I hope the administration is listening. My husband is a vet with strong credibility and he has been saying what Ritter is saying since McCrystal went rogue in the media. Further, we need to get out of Afghanistan.PERIOD

Joe De La Cruz   November 3rd, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Hi Rick, The reason Obama is taking so long in deciding is because of the unemployment in the US. He really wants to bring our troops home but if he brings them home where unemployment is already at 10% it makes him and Democrats look bad.

Janice   November 3rd, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Scott is right..The Gen should be fired because he has only Republican strategy which will not take this country anywhere. We need to train Afgan forces, settle with Taliban and combat Al qaeda.

Samuel Cacciola   November 3rd, 2009 4:46 pm ET

I have to agree with Scott Ritter that McChrystal should be fired for insubordination. He also hit it on the head, leave the Taliban alone do not waste are Men and Woman's lives on a war we can not win. Go after the Alkida they where resposible for 9/11. Like Iraq we are in a war that is useless.

Jay TX   November 3rd, 2009 4:47 pm ET

With this much confusion and now the fabric of the military being challenged over politics, Wow! Man We (USA) have to get a grip!!
This Country's leaders are really starting to lose perspective!! One thing about the Enemy, you don't see them tearing each other down!! The Bottom line is the President has information now, I'm sure, that we don't have access to!! We voted this man into office for 4 years!! Are we going to let him be president?? Bush got 8 yrs, I didn't vote for him nor like his agenda but I was always respectful!! After all whether I liked it or not, He was still my President! Ironically the very reason our soldiers are over there fighting is so that we can choose but also except when we lose!!

justmetalking   November 3rd, 2009 4:48 pm ET

I can't believe you drug Scott Ritter out. You are aware he is a convicted child predator. Twice arrested soliciting teenage girls on internet chat rooms. The last girl he was to meet was a police officer. Why are you asking him his opinion on anything? He was a weapons inspector. He has no professional expertise on any of the subjects you asked him about. Are you so desperate to support Obama that you would stoop to this level? Pathetic. Shame on you Rick.

jj   November 3rd, 2009 4:58 pm ET

Anyone who thinks that at the level of General is not politcal has not payed attention to or understands how officer corps works in the armed forces the general was asked for his PROFESSIONAL OPPINION on what he needed

michbob   November 3rd, 2009 4:59 pm ET

as much as i dont want to us to have troops over there it to late to back out now. the guys doing the fighting are asking for help lets give them the help they need NOW not in afew months when it mite not help.

Watterstide   November 3rd, 2009 5:04 pm ET

My son went over to Iraq, and is now in Afghanistan. He had great pride in helping the people/children of Iraq. He was with a medical unit, in the field. He volunteered his "off" days to work in the "walk in clinic" for the mothers and children of Iraq...
In Afghanistan, he volunteered to go this time. Thought he could make a difference. Let me tell you, they are not interested in being helped. They only want the american money rolling in..no strings attached.
This,he says,is a different war,we are going in to teach the afghan's how to operate the hospitals, medical units, not to do it for them. And they don't want our help, only the funding to to do it. They (Afghans)have continually berated him, and the people who are supposed to be interpreting, are not telling him what is being said..they just say" don't worry about it", "it is ok" & "just ignore them". He really needs to know if he has offended them,to take corrective action and/or to apoligze.
"Friendlies", had killed 2 of thier unit, a year ago. Now he has something else to worry about. He is biding his time, waiting to come home to his own wife and 2 kids. Frustrated and dejected. And he just got there!
I say,: pull them out or send more in.
Don't leave these soldiers like they are, in the frey, as sitting ducks, with no relief...
You can't win a war, "walking softly and carring a big stick".

Dawnel Lowery   November 3rd, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Ana Auchterlonie   November 3rd, 2009 5:23 pm ET

We should get out of Afghanistan but make sure that while we are doing it our troops remain safe and give them all the support that is needed to get them out. No other Nation is willing to continue with this horrific war. We should be proud of our accomplishments and not consider this as a defeat as it is NOT. We are a sensible and caring Nation and we should reflect that at all times. We are not helping the Afghan people by being on their soil. There is no war to be fought there any longer. The Alkyd are all over the world and we should protect our borders and be vigilant within our own territory and get together with all other Nations in combating them wherever they are.

Max   November 3rd, 2009 5:31 pm ET

Mr. Ritter may be right, but he is the wrong person to speak.

A poor job of vetting. Terrible Teddy would not have allowed such sloppiness

ken jarland veteren 22yrs   November 3rd, 2009 5:44 pm ET

Ritter is right, lets get the hell out of Afghanistan. The US has been fighting these wars with a west mentality, The poeple in the middle east do not understand our way of thinking. I spent 3 yrs in Iran and my belief is the east is east and the west is west and the twain will never meet.

Bill Jones   November 3rd, 2009 6:40 pm ET

I am a former military man. I was immediately livid when I heard General McChrystal practically demand that he receives 40,000 troops in Afghanistan. He repeatedly gave interviews to the various media sources. Who does he think he is to demand anything of the President? There is a chain of command that was available to him. Did he think that his request was so unique that he had to drum up media and public support to confront his military and civilian superiors? He is trying his best to bully and intimidate and extort the president. His actions are very embarssing and unforgivable; He should be fired and replaced before any decision is made by the President. It may also be appropriate to demote him. We don't need him or any other insubordinate leaning general to work for the Administration. He should have been replaced immediately.

michbob   November 3rd, 2009 7:47 pm ET

Watterstide so true. i thank you and your faimly for giving so much for our country. time for obama to do what ever he going to do. i`m watching as our local boys/girls get ready to go over there and there all wondering why it takes so long to decide what to do. dosn`t look good for him(obama) as our president or this GREAT country to still be deciding what to do. he has had a year(yes a year as president elect he got briefs about this every day) now and still cant decide what to do. i think its time to take what we have learned from passed wars and use it. in vietnam we took land only to give it back if were going to lose our soldiers lets do it by keeping the land we take push them in to the mountains from there we can defeat them as for the supplies they will need in WII we moved millions of tons of supplies and agian when the wall went up around Berlin we did it agian. this war can be won but not with the president scared to make a decision on what to do.

when we speak of this war do people understand what scott ritter talked about did anyone really heard what he said about the people that bomb the world trade center on 9/11/01 those that did the bombing got the flying lesson in florida right here in the united states.
and those that did the bombing was ffrom saudia arabia why are this government fighting people who had nothing to do with the bombing of the wtc i don't get it plus george bush lied about weapons of mass
destuction and have everyone forgotten that george walker bush jr. is a member of the skull and bones an evil cult so is john carey george bush created this war base on what in reality OIL did people forgot this also anyone who use common sense know this is a war that won't be won why? one can't win a war to people who have no fear of dying,

A. Smith   November 4th, 2009 12:53 am ET

Who were the UN inspectors in Iraq that outlined the dozens of captured huge artillery bunkers that contained millions of Iraqi Artillery shells and released a co-statement to the press with several US Generals, stating in effect 'there are so many other more important issues in Iraq, we are not going to place removing these multi-million munitions as a high priority'.

Well, the Taliban in a matter of DAYS removed millions of the unguarded artillery shells and began supplying IED's made from them these past many years.

What a stupid, ignorant, degrading statement to the American Public in regards to how vitally important those millions of artillery shells were in the hands of the Jihadist.

A lot of American soldiers lost their lives, limbs and sanity due to the utter incompetence by these inspectors and the substantive actions by the American Generals in regards to literally giving the Taliban millions of artillery shells to make their IED's with.

My apology, I was talking about Iraq not Iran.
By the way, Ritter is a convicted child predator? OMG! How did I not know?

Why Go from Bad to Worse Health Care?

Doing nothing with health care reform is far better than passing a bill that will expand our current failed HMO insurance system to include high risk and low income participants with no guarantee of cost reduction and keep us from getting a single payer system that has been proven successful in all of the other industrialized countries.

HMO profits will just continue to rise and the abuses will continue until we break the control of our government by big business money that hinders our legislators and that will also permit us to resolve all of our other major problems.

Maria Ferrara   November 4th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

In the back of my mind, a loop keeps running: Pat Tillman, Pat Tillman, Pat Tillman. Scott Ritter echoes ALL my feelings about US military in the Middle East. WHY did we go there in the first place? Why are we still there when these wars–mostly based on religious differences–continue in their centuries-old rants? When civilian contractors in Afghanistan have taken up weapons against whoever is shooting down their doors, the only solution is a plan for clean, immediate withdrawal with the emphasis on protection of our troops and in-country US civilians. I am a child of the Vietnam war era, marrying a vet and living with his pains. No more do I want to see a list of 19-year-olds or 36-year-olds running across my screen with "In Memorium" underneath.

Merla Long   November 4th, 2009 5:40 pm ET

Rick

I stayed to watch your show today for what? To learn that Castro's sister has helped the CIA?
What I heard was you speaking spanish to her. If she has been here for so many years why hasn't she learned English?

I am offended and turned you off.

Your turning your show into a Latino show and I am offended that CNN has allowed that to happen also.

We should disarm the public like they do in communist countries. What ever happened to fist fights? Drugs are illegal,,firearms should also be
outlawed

PROZAK// Hasan had access to anything he wanted.Drugs used to treat PTSS have been blamed for many military suicides.Prozak has been responsible for many homicides and suicides. As a phyciatrist Hasan probably self treated his own PTSS.

Rick
Just saw the court room scene where the lawyer swiped some papers from an attorney. LOL. That isn't anything that we see in Florida compared to what they really get away with. Comon down to my level of the people and I will show you where rip offs are happening to hard working people and every court in the land is ignoring it. And Big corporations know about it and do nothing to protect them because they are the recipents of the rip offs. Lol I have to laugh at what us little folks have seen and known for years and when we try and tell someone we become targets for an investigation or get the screws for it or everybody suddenly becomes silent. Heck dude you don't know the half of whats really going on.

Larry   November 11th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

In reference to the CCE (Chief Crook Executive) of AIG, if he want to resign his post. Please do all of us a favor. He is the one who is responsible for the failure of AIG in the first place. We need more CCE's to quit their post and give some of that money back to the taxpayers. Go rot in your greed. You big CROOK

maquignon   November 11th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Why do you give idiots like Rev Phelps air time? You are encouraging people of his ilk every time you show them on television. If they get no attention they will go away. Ignore bad behavior and reward good behavior.

Ernelia Quickel   November 11th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

My fervent prayers to the Armed Forces of the Unites States all over the world, our veterans at home, and to those soldiers who were massacred in Fort Hood with out mercy and other victims. RIP

Happy Veterans Day.

Btw, these crooks should never get a chance to stay in their job– they should be forced to quit! How pathetic we are comparing to these monsters that have vast accounts and we don’t know how much more they stole us!
God bless you all.

Opinion on afgan war. WITHDRAW. Protect our boarders & ports, and know who & were the people that enter this nation are.

Shelisa   November 12th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

The decision to go to war was made before this president took office. The loss of lives has been tremendous, both in this country and there. It will take a grass roots effort by the leadership of Afghanistan and the people in that community.

Lets just think about this a minute, and not react in a knee jerk fashion, once again. Lets have faith in the leadership of our country to make a thoughtful decision on how to proceed.

Shelisa   November 12th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

HEALTH CARE REFORM

It isnt just about having money for coverage, it is also about having people available to see the patients that come in for service. Should everyone have affordable health care? The answer is absolutely. We have to reform the system and this will not happen overnite nor will it happen with one health care reformation plan.

It happens with a change in thought and a change in the way we define health care, and the way we provide the services. It is about making everyone accountable and it will take everyone's efforts, not just the US CONGRESS.

Lets move forward people and make this happen.

Anthony Peterson   November 16th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

Hey Rick! Ever think about what the US did w/ the WWI German, Japanese or Italian prisoners of war? The GITMO prisoners do not and will not have the luxery of returning home. This makes their circumstance and ours delicate...Miranda rights or military detention w/ the prospect of being returned. Hence, the military brass might be in a position to order soldiers on the battlefield to kill first, detain second when engaging with a actively hostle combatant.

John J. Rossi   November 17th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

I have a question how come I am hearing that troops out at FOB in Afgan. are only getting 2 meals a day an on Tuesday no food at all? This is not right. I send packages all the time to my son an others with snacks an such but that they only get fed 2x a day an if out on patrol an they get back late they are out of luck or if they are at end of line an food runs out same thing they are out of luck. This is a disgrace that these young who are doing us a service by being there to do without food. Please feel free to ask around I have contacted my congressman but I expect I'll just get the form letter like others who have love ones over there. Thank you John J. Rossi

AGNES OGUNSEITAN   November 18th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Hi Rick, Obama did nothing wrong by bowing to other presidents. In Africa where he has his roots, we prostrate to greet our elders, it is a sign of respect and part of our culture, no matter their political opinion or differences. So its no big deal.

pinokeeoh   November 20th, 2009 1:56 pm ET

Listen to someone with Ritter's credability problems? He may have been right about Iraq, but he put himself in a position where Saddam had the goods on him. There are plenty of knowlegeable people to consult on the subject that don't have ritter's baggage. I am suprised that CNN chose to dig him up. No, wait a minute, I guess I'm not.
