He's fighting extradition.
He's fighting extradition.

Can you imagine, Roman Polanski, finally being brought back to the United States?

Read the latest on the Polanski case by clicking here.

Can you imagine the scene when, I guess if, that actually happens?

Guess what? As of today, it's a step closer to happening.

31 years ago, he pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl in Los Angeles, but he never did the time.

Instead, he skipped town.

The facts of the original case are keeping the story in the headlines, which is a problem for Polanski. Like the fact that he got the little girl drunk and got her high with quaaludes.

Polanski was busted last month when he went to Switzerland for a film festival.

He's desperately trying to fight extradition, but experts say it doesn't look good.

As of today, the U.S. has officially filed papers to have Polanski brought back to face justice.

We'll keep you posted.

on the flight from San Diego to Minneapolis – no one mentions the air speed – to go over by 150 miles would not take long – they were out of touch before they got into Minneapolis airspace, then were put through hoops before landing... still... it is outrageous... eeek. Eilene

Rick:

Have you heard anything about November 19, 2009 as National Unemployment and Underemployment Day where all unemployed and underumployed Americans are asked to fax thier resumes to CNN and FOX News in order to dramatize the critical economic situation and refute the shameful claims of politicians and economists that 'the economy is getting better, and we have pulled back from the brink". November 19, 2009 is being called National Unemployment and Underemployment Day and Americans facing unemployment or underemploymnent are asked to fax their resumes to CNN and FOX so that the nation can get a dramatic and powerful picture of the severity of the economic crisis facing those left behind from the bailouts and stimulas bill. Have you heard anything about this?

Mary Lou   October 23rd, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Sorry but I don't believe for a minute these 2 cockpit jockeys were awake. Maybe the overhead sprinklers should be programmed so they go off over their heads when they ignore landing instructions.

It is Minneapolis-St Paul. the MSP airport is half on Minnepolis land and half on St Paul. Why is St Paul always left out??

Thanks,
Brad

You are making an error about the length of time the pilots were incommunicado. If they flew 150 miles past their destination this would just take about 20 minutes at 500 mph. The rest of the time would have been spent on the return journey and with air traffic control verifying the real pilots were still in control. So they were not out for "over an hour." As to why tha'ts another matter

Your guest, Mr. Mecina, (sorry if I mispelled his name), needs to google Ellis Island to learn about our history and how immigrants came to this great country. To say that "no one but the Indians" has come here legally is absurd! I have 3 grandparents who came to this country legally from Ireland through Ellis Island. There are many people today coming here legally. Not everyone sneaks in! I can't believe you didn't even correct him. You simply chuckled.

Toni   October 23rd, 2009 4:20 pm ET

It appears to me that you have forgotten when it come to this country that we are now a country of laws when it comes to immigration. These laws were made to be followed. There are certain quoates which are allowed by immigration laws for people to enter into the US. You should look into how many Latino should be allowed in according to the quota. There is something wrong with people like you who come here and want to lower the standards which have been set by the laws of the United States. We are not all illegal. Some of our grandparents and great great grandparents waited their turn to come in legally and met the quota. They did not break the law to get here. I think you have a wrong idea of what the law requires. As a matter of fact, I don't think you think we need to follow the law at all.

Nancy   October 23rd, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Watching Rick Sanchez today, it occurred to me that these two pilots (I assume they were males) could have been having Gay sex in the cockpit-no pun intended and got "distracted." Obviously, they had to make up something to keep the truth hidden. It was not only the comedian Rick had on who came up with this idea. I had just thought of it prior to his appearance.

LATINO IN AMERICAN

IT WAS IRONIC THAT AS CARLOS MENCIA WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN HOW LATINO MIGRATION INTO "OUR COUNTRY" THAT THERE WAS A SIGN THAT READ "THE FERTILE PLAIN", OH YEAH , I MEAN LAS VEGAS.
JUST THINK OF HOW MANY CITIES IN THIS COUNTRY HAD SPANISH NAMES LONG BEFORE THE ANGLOS IMMIGATED INTO THOSE AREAS.. LATINOS HAVE BEEN PART OF OUR AMERICAN HISTORY SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING AND IN THE SOUTHWEST PART OF OUR CULTURE TO DENY IT IS THE WOULD BE THE THE SAME AS DENYING THAT NATIVE AMERICANS WERE NOT HERE EITHER.I WONDER MANY OF OUR CITIZENS REALIZE THAT WORDS SUCH AS CHICAGO, MASSACHUSETTS, DAKOTA,UTAH, TEXAS AND MANY MORE ARE NATIVE AMERICAN WORDS .IMMIGRATION IS OUR STRENGTH.

Joel S. Madtson   October 23rd, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Rick:

I have watched your program since it was started. On the subject of illegal immigrants that I heard you discussing on today's program, I have to disagree.
You need to study American History. You and your guest are mistaken.
Our forfathers did not just show up here,America, and settle. There were many different Wars fought to establish our borders. The Mexican border that you have so concerned about was established by a war, The Mexican- American War. Mexoco, lost. It makes me angry that this is not even mentioned. My great-great granfather came to America in 1846 at the age of 28. When he entered fron Ireland through New York, he was given a choice. Either enter the Army to earn your citizenship or be sent back to Ireland. He had ne military expericense, he was a shoemaker. He enered the Army and was sent directly to Texas and fought the Mexican- American War. He died during the war at Fort Duncan and I can not even find where he was buried. For doing what he did, that side of family was given a small land grant and citizenship.
When you discuss imigration you act like we all just walked accross the borders and said we are here, give us all of your rights. My famiy earned the right to be here, through blood, sweat, and tears.
I believe that before these immigrants come accross our border, they are given a class on how to get all the free benefits they can. I call this , how to screw America 101, which is a must have class before the sneak accross.
I know that you will never discuss my opinion on you bias show. After listening to the comments that you and your guest said today, I finally had to speak out. Enough is enough.
Please discuss the correct history of how this country was founded. We just did not walk accross the border. The borders were all founded by War. Do not forget these facts.
Sincerely:

Joel S. Madtson

No Regulation of Banks?

Three Republican members of Congress have proposed a bill that would remove all regulation of banks. This is hard to justify after all of the financial institution disasters of recent months due to lack of regulation but, like always, when something appears to be unreasonable in politics, look for the money being made. The purpose behind the proposed bill is to solidify their political standing with the big business investors that give them contributions and favors. Promoting the general welfare in accordance with our Constitution does not make money for our politicians.

Cindy   October 23rd, 2009 8:55 pm ET

Hi Rick. I think the Fox Wars is about the dumbest controversy in some time. The White House was out of line in trying to keep Fox from interview with the official yesterday. However, the media attention to all of this seems a bit self-serving (at least your correspondent acknowledged it was self-serving on his part). A couple of years ago, the Bush White House was trying to find sources used in the New York Times and were threatening to put them in jail. They also accused the New York Times of treason for reporting on White House activities. We could go on and on. None of that got as much attention as this spat with Fox News. Let's have some balance. Hell, I wouldn't talk to them either. Then again Obama can ignore them without making it a federal case too.

Juanita Harris   October 24th, 2009 3:23 am ET

Cindy, Probably the New York times didn't have any sources except their imaginations, just like liberal newsmongers today made up sources vilifying Rush Limbaugh. I hope the threat of jail quietened them down. Probably they were accused of treason because they were printing military intelligence which would be harmful to our servicemen.

Juanita Harris   October 24th, 2009 3:31 am ET

Ha, ha, I saw a cartoon about Roman Polanski saying that at the next Academy Awards Hollywood will pay him a glowing tribute. Actually, it was more a commentary on Hollywood, I think.

Jerry Borsmaugh   October 24th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Nobody has pointed out that in his recent interview with Carlos Mencia, Rick closed the interview by saying, "Carlos, viva la raza, verdad?".

What a pitiful way to let all his viewers know that he agrees with Mr. Mencia's views on being Latino in America (yes, I know his last name is Sanchez).

Mr. Mencia said that caucasians that were being discriminated against (for being white) were not experiencing "reverse discrimination", but rather they were experiencing "karma".

What he should have said was RETRIBUTION, as it is not up to him (or any human being) to decide someone else's karma.

Mr. Mencia's view seems to be that ALL whites should "pay" for the sins of previous caucasian generations. That is called "RACISM'. It's not okay to say, "Well YOU were racist with me first, so now I can be racist with you". Two wrongs DO NOT make a right.

I should not have to "pay" for a previous generations' evils, just as Mr. Mencia should not have to "pay" for the current evils of Latino gangbangers (who are mostly ILLEGAL immigrants).

Rick
,Helen Thomas is the kind of Reporter we need more of in Washington. She is not afraid of losing points with an Administration no matter who is in office. She doesn't sugar coat anything and chooses to be as specific as needed feelings be darned. This didnt sit well with the former Administration. With ratings taking priorty it is great to know that in the White House press corps there is somebody still looking for simply the truth.

E McNair   October 26th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

Dear Rick Sanchez:
As the mother of a teenage daughter, I wouldn't want that scum known as Roman Polanski anywhere on the planet near her, much less in the US. As far as the Hollywood elite are concerned, they should be ashamed of themselves for kissing a pedophile's A... in public. Guess that the only crime people like Couey committed was not being rich and/or powerful enough to get others to swarm to their defense.

Tyrone   October 26th, 2009 9:09 pm ET

He is white and white people are the good people OR many whites rape children and could careless about a man that rape a 13 year old CHILD? PICK ONE! The Bait Car program is down right racist! All the neighborhood they set the bait car in are black and latino. NEVER do the program go to a white neighborhood NEVER! Don't get me wrong I could careless about the black and latino people that are arrested for stealing cars. I care about fairness and equal treatment under the LAW. As I write black and latino men and women are fighting in Iraq and Afgan. for the freedom of all Americans. They deserve the respect and equal treatment under the law! The program has mostly white cops that made comment like" these hoolum" these animals" etc.. This is why racist cop built their hatred for black Americans. They only target black and latino criminal. Whites are the number one in car thief NATION WIDE! Alot of time working with minorites to commit their crime! This program (BAIT CAR) should be cancel until it plays fair and plant the Bait Car in white neighborhoods TOO!

Ada Orozco   October 27th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Rick, I gotta say...You haven't aged any "at all" since we were in 10th grade in Hialeah High! My God....I've been living in Las Vegas, NV for 23 years now, and I wish you could address my concern about this Random Community Survey for the U.S. Sensus Bureau. I was randomly selected and since I didn't answer in a timely matter, I had field representatives here hounding at my door and then I got a voicemail message that if I didn't do this questionaire by 12:00 midinight tonight, I would be heavily fined? Please clarify and let it be known to the puplic that this is going on and their tactics, you are not told you can refuse to give your real name and who knows about date of birth too...but they sure are intimidating! Thank you, and Good Luck with your career. Ada

How can anyone justify this attitude concerning health care? Sending billions to foreign countries and refusing health care to the very
people that provide Congress and the Senate health care and salaries. Search your hearts stand up for what is right. Think of a
baby or young child feverish needing care and parents unable to provide that care. I pray God will touch your hearts, open your minds to realism of what people in this country are going through. I Implore you to be a stand up person rethink actions of greed, self, power, and party these
are not the reasons for serving. Granted all of you work very hard but sometime lose you way. People are beginning to think Medical Mafia
have hi-jacked this industry. God bless all of you fill your hearts with
love and caring for the people that have placed you in office.

Rick, what do you have against the US Immigration Laws, Rules and Regulation. If a person enter the U.S. Illegaly, that person consider breaking the U.S. Law. That makes it a misdeamenor. We know that this country were founded that people who came from diffrent countries, that was then, this is know. We have Laws , like every other countries in the world. If your parents came here illegaly, that makes you an illegal alien, no matter how you put it. If a person come at your house, he entered without your permission, is this person enter your house legally , yes or no. That is the same thing. You just cannot enter the U.S. and say that you want to live here. If you read the reason's in the Immigration law, talking about persecution of a person and other legal matter you would see. In this country, is not only Latinos illegaly in this country, you have German, Israeli, Indians and other living illegaly. We have to respect the laws of this country no matter what. It's the Law of the U.S. if you enter the U.S. illegal you are an illegal alien. Not because they pay taxes or not. That is not the issue. If we had an open Border it would have been a Kaotic, no law will be respected here.

C. Gamble   November 12th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

That segment on David Vitter was as close to a Fox report as I have ever seen from CNN. The story is not the confrontation between Vitter and a rape victim. The story is about how something so obviously wrong has not been rectified by congress. The fault and responsibility resides with both Democrats and Republicans.

The confrontation should have been a small part of a longer segment condemning a legal process that forces women to confront rapist without the full weight of the law.

Frank E   November 12th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

Who really cares, I would think Larry King would have a better show had she left earlier.

lamotte   November 12th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

i was very pleased to see the young man on your show earlier today that was spanish doing so well in school. but my question i would like to ask how matter how you change the facts the young man is still here illegally and most likely applied and received pella grants and fund that were not his legally to obtain. just a matter of record is all i say.

Ben from Baltimore, Maryland, USA   November 18th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

Bring this child rapist back! My step mom had stopped recording ABC's The View to watch after work because of Whoopi Goldberg's blatant support for him. And yes, I did see Whoopi Goldberg's support comment from The View for myself on Youtube. I am really careful when I go to the movies now because I don't want to see any movies that involve Polanski supporters. I check the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) before I head to the theater to see who's involved in the movies that are currently playing. He needs to be brought back to face his fate because he has gotten away with raping a child for 31 years. 31 years is way too long. Plus, he tried to buy his way out of jail. He needs to meet his maker.
