Are you ready for some football?  Former NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden's back on tv!  And he talks with Rick about the game, great moments and his career on and off the field.  Oh and find out why he doesn't fly.  Trust me, you'll get a kick out of this.

Sid Gilman used the Telestrator when I directed The Sid Gilman Show on Channel 39 in San Diego in the early 70's when he was head coach of the Chargers. We were so fascinated with that technology. He would use it over game films and show where the play was going then run the play. Sid controlled the Telestrator and the Film playback from the set. It was a very interesting and informative program. I have a lot of memories from that show. I guess we didn't get credit for being among the first to use this technology because it was not a national program.

If this man who bomb the airplane wants,
what to stop him from sending out one of the people who thinks his a hero to blow up another air plane and building or what ever.

I don't see how? Anyone can be surprised with anything Bush&Cheney schemed up. After all, he wasn't supposed to been President anyway. They started off lying, cheating, deceiving to steal the Presidency. I will never understand how they were able to get away with it. I think they both should be prosecuted, they continued to lie throughout the the term causing many fatalites here& Iraq. They cost the country billions of dollars they're the reason the country is in the state it 's in well.

Toeman   August 21st, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Rick,

I am so sadden when I listen to the media and hear the rage in so many Americans when it comes to health care and our President. As we all know, the view of Americans selfishness, arrogance, selfishness and "back woods mentality" is why countries see us to be so hypocritical. As an educated, working senior manager in this country, if I have to pay extra taxes, extra rates or money to help my fellow Americans who do not have insurance or any means to provide health care for themselves or loved ones, so be and thank "GOD" that I can help. Please tell me the states and cities of these protesting, "un-American" people are raising all of this hate?

Thomas Hansen   August 21st, 2009 4:00 pm ET

We keep thinking our health care is the best in the world, maybe not so much, but our Diagnostics is on top of all other countries. People come here to find out whats wrong, but most will go back home where they are not stuck to traditional medicine and pharmaceuticals.

Judy   August 21st, 2009 4:01 pm ET

We rank 39th out of 40 (top Industrial countrys) in Infant Mortallity
How can we say our health care is so great. Too many chidren depend on emergeny rooms for their care because of no or inadequate insurance. The high cost of a hospilization is used to cover those unable to pay. More coverage would bring costs down for everyone. Non-profit health insurance would provide more coverage. And as for someone between you and your health care provider there already is someone, the insurance company.

Linda   August 21st, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Rick I am really disappointedin your misleading comment that Canadians only have minimum care. That is not true! We have excellent care for more diseases. There is enough misinformation out there that you should be more careful in your comments. Our cancer clinic saved my husband from almost certain death and you have no business saying such a thing. We get good care at half what you pay.

Jean   August 21st, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Rick:

Pertaining to the US Health Care reform and the comparison between the US and Canadian Health Care System which I have been listening to on CNN.
Canada has a good Health Care System. The problem is that there are some people who are impatient and who think that they can get faster medical care in the US. US doctors appear to be eager about getting the Canadian medical business. No exception the traveling business to and from the US.
Understand that we are all human beings and are by no means perfect people and that all systems are flawed and never work properly and can never please everyone.
Human beings are negligent people. I realize that as we grow older, we will get sick for those of us who are not yet sick.
People need to take care of themselves, live well, eat well and sleep well. If we do this, it may be that we may not need medical attention, probably until a ripe old age and will live longer.
I am hoping that the US will have a National Health Care System once and for all. It is more than time.

Mary Martin   August 21st, 2009 4:40 pm ET

Dear Rick
I appreciate your striving for fairness and balance. And so, I must take issue with your statement today that Canada is really good at fixing broken ankles etc. but that it does not have the expertise to cope with serious or rare conditions and diseases. Canada has world renowned research facitilies, such as MARS where research and investment work together. Canada has brought many discoveries such as insulin to the world. Much hasbeen accomplished here in cancer research. The reason so many Canadians look to the USA for medical care is speed. In Canada the wait times are so often ridiculously long. That is the problem with our system. If Canada would permit the participation of private health care along with the public system, we would have a very effective system. I really think that the US would do well to have a "mixed" private and government system. Thanks for your time.

khaida white   August 21st, 2009 8:00 pm ET

Dear Rick,
I am so in agreement with "TOEMAN," who said, "As we all know, the view of Americans selfishness, arrogance, selfishness and “back woods mentality” is why countries see us to be so hypocritical. As an educated, working senior manager in this country, if I have to pay extra taxes, extra rates or money to help my fellow Americans who do not have insurance or any means to provide health care for themselves or loved ones, so be and thank “GOD” that I can help."

Thank you Mr. Toeman......Yep, it is almost as if I wrote it.

Un-Americans have shown how selfish they could be with not wanting to share the cost for everyone to have health insurance. UN-AMERICAN pundits such as RUSH LIMPBAUGH, GLENN BECK, BILL O'REILLY and SEAN HANNITY are proving how GREEDY they are by excepting big money to incite people, who either cannot read for themselves or cannot understand what they read, to do their dirty work. THOSE American haters KNOW this health plan is good for the AMERICAN PEOPLE, but they also know that it will cause the medical field and health insurances to charge a fair amount to help keep AMERICA HEALTHY, which means the fat cats' wallets will be thinner.THEY CARE ABOUT MONEY, NOT ABOUT US!

How can people listen to RUSH LIMPBAUGH tell them that it is wrong to spend money on THEM...the poor, when he is making over 30million dollars a year!? Sean Hannity said he was worried about his portfolio....how many people shouting in the townhalls have portfolios?

We, THE PEOPLE, ARE the government, WHY CAN'T WE,THE GOVERNMENT, help take care of OURSELVES WITH OUR TAX MONEY, when we are in need.

"We CANNOT AFFORD to increase the national debt," cry those JUDASES... our children will have to pay this health care money back for years to come, they complain. (Where were these present naysayers, when the national debt got started with this war...based on a lie?)

Well how about if AMERICA becomes a nation of sick half dead people? WHO will pay the debt back then? At least if the people are healthy they will be physically able to pay off the debt.

Our life expectancy is less than Canada and the British....wonder why?

PEOPLE with insurance shouldn't be so smug, Blue Cross and Blue Shied will be going up approximately 22%. This isn't the first time they went up on insurance premiums and it won't be the last; eventually, we who are satisfied with our insurance WON'T BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT. WHAT THEN!!?

Just because you don't like PRESIDENT OBAMA is not a good excuse to refuse to accept something that will help you. IT IS CALLED, "CUTTING OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACE."

Back up the HEALTH PLAN; it is the only sensible thing to do and IGNORE, RUSH, GLENN, BILL O and SEAN; it is the most sensible thing to do.

Mary Martin   August 22nd, 2009 1:34 am ET

Dear Rick
Both our countries are huge contributors to medical science. I think Canada needs to be recognized as more than a fixer of broken ankles etc. If you were to search the web for the Connaught Labs, here in Toronto, you would learn that without that facility, there would have been no polio vacine in the 1950's and certainly without Drs. Banting and Best, no insulin production for diabetes. I point this out because it should add to your health care debate. Both our countries have short-comings in health care, but it is important for Americans to realize that significant research takes place here as it does in many other countries. It is not that the US is so strong in research and the treatment of unusual diseases that it has not developed its more general care. It is because you [same for Canada] have not hit the right balance in allocating resources to fill needs. For the Mars Institute, please check out this link.

why i, don't see this in the news?
This old lady was in the parking lot of Walmart in Whitehall, Ohio swinging a knife at people, when the police arrived she wouldn't drop the knife so the police officer took her down, the lady also assulted a kid by hitting him which sparked the crowd of people outside anyway, he was with relatives who intervened and that's when the knife swinging started anyone that tried to help her she began to swing her knife at them threatening them. Man the 1st of the month make people crazy ....

Dr conrad Murray gave Diprivan to Michael Jackson, His doctor was probably the closest person to him. He knew his medical history.

Rick,
So I am Un-American because I don't want the Government taking over my health care? I am greedy and selfish? I pay my fair share of taxes. I have NO write offs. Our Government has a bad track record when they get their hands on anything. The Postal Service is on the verge of bankruptcy!!! And I am being called these names because I don't trust our Government? We have a broken welfare system, broken Social Security, wars we can't finish. We went from having a president who was about taking care of his own, the rich, to one who wants to give to "the poor." What about ME in the middle, who has to pay either way!!

CONGRATULATIONS:
OBAMA CLUNKER PROGRAM TO SPARK SALES OF U.S. BASED CARS IS A TOTAL FLOP. MOST OF THE CARS BOUGHT ARE ASIAN. GOV. OVERESTIMATED AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE. SHOULD HAVE JUST SENT THE CLUNKER MONEY DIRECTLY TO JAPAN (CUT OUT THE MIDDLEMAN) SHAME ON US.

FOR AMERICANS DRIVING BIG 3 CARS ....CHECK OUT WHO YOU DO BUSINESS WITH. FOREIGH CARS DON'T SUPPORT US, RETURN THE FAVOR WHEN BUYING A SERVICE OR PRODUCT. FOREIGH CAR EQUAL NO SALE !!!!!!!

Thomas Hansen   August 24th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Watching this terrorist homecoming over and over, who is more at fault for publicizing it, them or our own TV news networks, I can understand sending him home to die, hell if I was the tax payer I don't want to pay for him to live and get any medical help. But we are selves have it on our TV channels everyday. Get a clue guys.

Ned   August 24th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Rick,

We should follow the law. However, on one hand people are upset over the bombers release because he is a hero at home. Doesn't the same thing happen when we send a guilty terrorist home without a complete interrogation?

John Valianos   August 24th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

We should and need to use torture on terrorists! look at the things they have done to americans, they are willing to die or rot in jail before they talk. We need to do whatever it takes to protect americans!!! What rights did all the innocent people have on 9/11. I am a big fan of the show 24, not just because it has great action but because if you watch closely it tells a very true story!! Our laws are set up to protect us not hurt us. If we can not use means that will protect and prevent loss of american lives than we have already lost the war on terror.

Rick, people should stop blaming the Libyans for giving the Lockerbie bomber a hero's welcome;instead blame the Scottish justice system. All the Libyans are doing is a natural reaction–welcoming one of their own, regardless of what he was convicted of.Would'nt America do the same?`'

Mike   August 24th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Rick, you are so wrong about Castro and Cuba. The radio lady also is so wrong about Castro, this is the first time we have seen Castro looking so well. When was the first time that he intervined on what his Brother Raul was doing for Cuba. Would you rather have the Mafia run Cuba like it was before Castro??? Call me Rick!!!

Jean   August 24th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Fidel Castro cannot let go and will not allow his brother to properly govern Cubans. He thinks that he is still in command of Cuba. The day will come when he will have to let go for good. Fidel Castro is an old man. He is also a very sick man. Do not get too excited about his health revival. There are those who may appear to become well/healthy and then, suddenly, they take a turn for the worst and die. I am aware that Cubans expecially the exiled ones are waiting to hear of Fidel Castro's death. The day will come and who knows, sooner than we expect it when he will vacate this world and face God for his eternal judgment. I hope he is making the most of his allotted time, given to him by God Himself (as God gives to us) in doing his utmost to repent and make restitution to the people of Cuba, whether they are residing in Cuba or not. Some have died. On the other hand how does one, as a dictatorship government make restitution to God for crimes against its people, such as denying them their basic human rights including freedom of speech and movement, enough to appease God so that these dictatorship souls will avoid eternal damnation in Satan's cauldron of everlasting fire? This is the big question. Only God knows and only He, who has the final say in everything can answer that. We know one thing, Fidel Castro will surely die someday at the appointed time.

Bud   August 24th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Rick,

My step-son has a traumatic brain injury. It takes tens of thousands of dollars to care for him each year. If it were not for a government program, he would not have survived. It is ONLY due to government programs that pay for his hospitalization, medications, and 24/7 care that allows him to survive. That senator is nuts to think there is any other way to care for people who have these types of afflictions. I know that woman feels, because I am in her shoes. No one knows how much it costs to care for people with "special needs". We need government programs for people who need health care. Those who oppose it have never had to walk a mile in my shoes.

Ray Symczyk   August 24th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Rick, welcome to the United States of Hipocracy.(did I spell that right?)
As offensive as it is to most of us regarding the release of the convicted terrorist by Scotland, what about the FACT that former President GW Bush and VP Cheney caused the deaths of over one hundred thousand Iraqis, thousands of U.S and coalition forces by invading a sovereign country that did nothing to us. These free world leaders LIED to us and the world to do so.
Let's get REAL. All the FUSS we're making over Iran or North Korea potentially having nuclear weapons. I'm sorry, how many do we have? We can but you can't?
What makes us so ABOVE THE LAW?
R.S.

Karen Root   August 24th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Rick. We enjoy your show and your comments, however, it really is offensive when you switch to spanish.. For those of us who's ancestors evolved here and do not speak spanish (we're Americans) it's frustrating and annoying .. I tend to turn the channel when I can't understand you. Please; enough of the espanol.. Karen

Sally   August 24th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

I guess Sen Coburn is a fan of the "banana bread" approach to healthcare. If you are at home with a family member who has a feeding tube and suffers from traumatic brain injury, even all the best neighbors in the world are not enough. You need professionals, not neighbors with casseroles.

Dave Rosen   August 24th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Great commerical on texting. Should be shown hourly so some of these people out there (young and older) wake up to the danger of cell phones.

War is war. It should stay on the battle field and let the CIA do what it needs to,water boarding, drills whatever. Did those people care how they flew planes into the towers?

Pam Williams   August 24th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

I'm 70 years old and take care of my 92 year old mother. I really am not able to help any of my neighbors. It's a wonderful thought for neighbors to pitch in but in this recession they have more to worry about than helping out a sick neighbor

Rudy Paredes Sr.   August 24th, 2009 4:33 pm ET

Rick, are the doctors treating Fidel Castro, Cuban, Russian, or other nationalty?, seems that they are doing a good job bringing him back to health. Thanks. Rudy.

George (Canadian)   August 24th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

Your comments about the Canadian healthcare on Frid Aug 21 were totally misguided. Go to cnn healthcare and check the comparisons between Countries. My wife and I are 80+ seniors. Examples of our care (with no cost to us) are:
Me- Heart attack; triple bypass:ruptured aneurism; complete knee replacement and and many other rutine ailments.
My wife- 2 Hip replacements:gall bladder surgerý; heart problems:etc.
We have regular visits to our family Doctor for checkups and annual physicals. If required we get quick referrals to specialists. And on and on. So Rick get your facts correct and stop misleading the America public. My wife spent 2 days in US hospital – Cost $35,000

jc   August 24th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

just watched sen. coburn about helping the woman whose husband has a brain tumor(?). if he is right about neighbor helping neighbor then how many of the group has the equipment, time and money to donate for his health care. if that exchange wasn't a good call for health care reform then it was a better one for i'm in charge of the death panel by his remarks. the u.s. has always given money for blood when it comes to the military but not for health care. one fighter or bomber cost more than a billion dollars and we won't spend a damn dime to feed and educated the working poor. no wonder we've turned into a third rate country. it's good that coburn and inhoff are in washington, we have enough to deal with without them screwing the state up more than it is.

ADELE FEDERMAN   August 24th, 2009 9:13 pm ET

TO CHRISTINE [RE:swastika debate]
More people are becoming aware of Obama's shortcomings and his poll #''s are going down... As one who liked Obama's rhetoric during the campaign, I learned early on that his campaign was a complete distortion of the man that is and, as a voting Democrat for over 60 years, I would not vote for him. His behavior as President assures me every day that I was right & the young voters who fell for his line and got him elected were very wrong....If you believe that Bush ran our lives, what do you think of Obama appointing Czars as heads of agencies that already have people at the heads? At last count I believe there are 36 of them but one of the articles in the menu on this subject on Google lists it as 34. Do you know why he chooses Czars? It is because they do not have to be approved by Congress nor do their plans have to be presented for approval to Congress, ONLY TO OBAMA! Our Constitution says that our government has 3 divisions, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, creating a balance of power. Obama has bypassed Congress so that he can rule the roost by running those 34/36 agencies alone. Remember his takeover of the Census Bureau? That was his first grab on this. Does it frighten you? It scares the dickens out of me! {I almost wrote a different word}. I just learned that he wants the new agency [ IMAC] formerly the Medicare Advisory Commission to be enlarged to 150,000 people and will be created to be in charge of cutting Medicare benefits. He has decided that it will rule over Congress and be impregnable to any changes Congress wants to make in its laws.[ It is 1 hour later and listening to the evening news, I heard that because of the CIA scandal, he turned investigations over to the FBI & they will report ONLY TO OBAMA! ] It gets scarier & scarier!
Our economy is in the dumps but Obama keeps spending & spending, not only on stimulus packages & such. Where Hillary had 3 assistants, Michelle has 124, some of whom are assistants to the assistants. This payroll tops over $1 million, plus benefits. Michelle brags that they were given $50 million to make donations to charity. Shouldn't that come out of their paycheck, not Uncle Sam's treasury?
Republicans complained of Obama's 'end-of-life" part of his health plan so that seniors could opt out of living instead of being a financial burden. The media and Democrats yelled "foul", that it wasn't so!. It certainly was! In fact, he now wants to do the same with our wounded vets who are costing so much money with their medical bills. Bush had had a law that said these vets could have end-of-life consultations so that they would be less of a financial burdern to the country but the rule was done away with. Obama wants to reactivate it. He also wanted them to pay for their own medical bills but there was a public outrcry so he abandoned that idea..He claims, tho, that most of these veterans chose to volunteer into the service so they should be liable for their own care.He is as compassionate as Bush was and he acts more like Bush every day.
You say that Obama put a light on corruption. Hah!. Do you see any transparency in his administration? Each time we see a bit of light, he slams the door. Did you know he had applied to the Justice Dept. to allow his administration the secret statements" rule that Bush used? This would prevent them from having to submit to any request which asked for information on its actions. Obama has also used Bush's tactic of "signing statements" by which he signs a bill to prevent an override of a veto. He then shelves the parts of the bill that he does not like and would have vetoed.. There was a reaon he did not do away with Bush's power grabs when he became President. He wanted them for himself.
I agree with you that Medicare is run by the government at lower costs but it has gotten to a point where low is as far as low can go. My care has worsened over the years and, at Obama's hands it will get even worse. I will not go for end-of-life consultations as he would love me to do. I will cut my medicines in half if the prices get much higher, as I did last year during my donut hole. What Obama should do is force the drug industry to cut its prices! They charge us a lot more than they charge other countries and there is no reason, other than politics, that this should be allowed to continue. Is Obama afraid of them? Do they contribute heavily to him? Remember when he said he would not have lobbyists in his administration? I read that there are at least 145 of them that he calls upon for information & instruction[?] He used them when he was drafting the healthcare plan. Shouldn't that be a concern?
I would recommend that you do more research, that you listen to Obama less, open your brain a little and, especially, question more.
Christine, I listen to the Repubs and sometimes, they are correct but I do not let them substitute their thoughts for mine. If I do not like Obama or his plans, it is Obama's fault, not the GOP's.

Your "story" on the president's golfing partner made me laugh. You said this guy was a member of the president's economic advisors. I find it refreshing to know who gives advise to the oval Office.

If you remember, one of the very first meetings held in the Bush White House was a meeting of economic advisors with VP Cheney. There identities were withheld from the public. They NEVER told anyone who was in the meeting. Court challenges to find out went as far as the Supreme Court.

Transparency is refreshing.

When you take money to an investment banker, he assumes that you have paid taxes on that money. It's not his place to know if it is money you have hidden from the IRS. You are painting UBS with too broad of a brush.

Hi Rick,
Our President has the Right to take a vacation he is a hard working President he is working 6 dye's a week 15 houres a day for the last 7 mo, and he is paying out of his pocket for the vacation, unlike other President we know. and he hes small children he need to spend some time with them before school starts, stop bashing the President already he is working for us the American people, get a life and have some respect this the best President we had in a very long time, I sick and tired of the narrow minded right wing Republicans.

Emmy   August 25th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

Rick, If we vetted each and every one of our acquaintances, none of us would have any, and if we were all vetted by our acquaintances, somwhow someone would find us lacking and that includes you sir. The president is NOT divine, he is human like the rest of us. Like the Great Teacher Jesus once said, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone," ironically because he was constantly accused of hanging out with sinners and we know that no one was able to do that because no one was/is without sin. Hard facts to swallow but very true. As much as it's ok to question who the president hangs out with, to expect that he SHOULD know what everyone does in the background is kind of pretentious to me.

Jean   August 25th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

There is no doubt what Michael Jackson's family has gone through since he died and what they are presently undergoing. There are many unanswered questions about Michael, "Why?" and what really happened specifically on that day of his death, a death which probably could have been prevented if Michael got help in time. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all his family members. It is not an easy time for them and it is not something they may ever get over.
I will say, poor Michael Jackson. He did not have to die in such a manner, at such a young age, in the prime of his life and in trying to make a comeback in Show Biz. Michael had a bright future ahead of him whether he remained in Show Biz or not. He did not live long enough to enjoy the fruits of his works. This is also what hurts his family and fans. Do not doubt that Dr. Murray does not have regrets and is feeling extremely sorry for Michael and that he died. Dr. Murray is in the middle of it.
It is unbelievable that a person could be so addicted to such types of medication in order to sleep. It saddens me to hear how Michael was so addicted to medication when in recent years he was not physically sick in the first place and that he was taking medication for sleeping which is restricted to solely hospital patients, who are in a hospital. It is beyond my comprehension how he could have reached to such a stage in order to sleep. Surely there were other avenues he could have taken for getting a peaceful and restful sleep.
Michael was in dire need of psychological help and should have been referred to a detox center, if he had agreed to do so.
The problem is as far as I heard if anyone opposed Michael, his wants, needs and wishes, he would get angry with them. In the case of his employees, he would surely fire them and will have absolutely nothing to do with them. He did that also to some members of his family. Did he not?
It is my feeling that all those who served Michael as Dr. Murray was in an unfortunate position and never gave it a thought. Dr. Murray's salary was $150,000 a month which he was in dire need of to assist him and with his finances. If he opposed Michael, he would surely have lost his job.
Having given this a good thought, another person to feel sorry for is Dr. Murray. We must have compassion for him. Keep in mind, God's compassion towards each and every one of us.
We can say that Dr. Murray is sadly now in the hands of the Law and will not escape easily, if he ever does. It is no easy time for Dr. Murray knowing what may ensue.
When and if Dr. Murray is tried, he should be tried for "negligent homicide" not "willful homicide". Surely, Dr. Murray would not have willfully killed Michael. Consider the exorbitant salary he was receiving.
Dr. Murray's defense lawyer will have a tough time of convincing the prosecution otherwise, when the court hearings commence. I can also say, poor Dr. Murray. It appears that his medical profession is over. Prayers are needed for him. And as I say, Eternal Rest grant unto Michael, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Rick, thanks so very much for the clips of Sen. Kennedy debateing on the senate floor. The working poor in the US can thank Kennedy for so passionately arguing on our behalf. How can a family survive and have a decent life off $7.15 an hour? Maybe one of the opposers of the minimum wage can answer that question.

Susan   August 28th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Rick, That " pastor",& I use the term lightly, needs to read the Holy Bible. Our heavenly Father doesn't hear a prayer asking that someone go to hell. That's why He sent His son.

Heather   August 28th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Rick,

Why didn't that pastor give a hate speech, that he wants to call a sermon, on Chaney and Bush, when they sent our soldiers, our young men and women, to their deaths, based on a lie? Chaney and Bush loved violence and sent thousands of soldiers to their deaths. This "sermon" is not fitting for someone who calls himself a man of God. He is teaching false doctrine and he and his followers are the one who will be judged, for leading his flock astray. President Obama is trying to deal with the economical and social carnage and wreakage that the previous adminstration has left for the rest of us and the world to deal with. He doesn't deserve death threats. They are just using the issue of abortion as a lame excuse to spew their prejudice and bigotry.

How can people be allowed to be anywhere near the President with weapons? The Secret Service needs to step it up!!! They need to make more arest to send a message that threats won't be tolerated.I'm concern for his safety(the Presdent).

When Bush sent our young men and women to Iraq based on a lie, I stated I was ashamed to be a Texan. Now we have a pastor of a Baptist church talking death to a president, I am now ashamed to be Born and raised a Baptist. The way the Christians are now talking, I am ashamed to be a Christian. What are we becoming?

Expose Steven Anderson as a liar, he professed to be PRO LIFE, all life is precious. LIAR, he belives in the death penaly which makes him a beliver in Selective life, not all life is precious to him.

Henya:

Are you truly ignorant,or just misinformed?Lets see...The last three Presidents were ,truly ,independantly wealthy(which,in spite of what most of the lay-about welfare bunch the left pander to thinks,is not a crime, and doesn't need to be "redistributed" to their pockets)and did most,if not all,of their vacationing at places their families already owned,or at say,Camp David, which is owned and maintained by the Federal government...

Now,here we are ,as taxpayers, footing a $ 35,000 a week rental, not to mention the weekly "date night " the Obamas go on every week. Now,you go check on the Presidential salary, and tell me Mr. Obama can afford just shy of 10% of his yearly wages on ONE WEEKS RENT!!!

Michelle is the biggest spending First "Lady" in HISTORY!You can't be so naive as to not realize all that money is coming out of OUR pockets,NOT HERS...

Or are you really that silly?

Oops, sorry,I got off the subject of football there...But ignoramuses just really irritate me...

Rick: Speaking of football. As a former life long fan, I'm wondering if the Eagles would sign O.J. if it meant a Super Bowl appearance.

When Kanye disrespected Taylor,no one charged Kanye with racism. If a white had done the same thing, the air waves would be filled with charges of racism. I hope you bring up this double standard on your show.

Kevin Wagner   September 16th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

All the ex president is doing is fueling the flames of racism. He is pushing a liberal agenda to take the focus off the flailing Dem party and health care reform.

Debbe May   September 16th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

President Carter is spot on. As a child of the South, I see these attitudes all of the time. It is not really Obama's policies I see being attacked all the time. 2/3 of the Republican Party doesn't believe he was born in America. What's up with that? That has been debunked again and again. Hawaii even finally produced his original birth certificate. Then they say his idea of health care reform has death panels when there is no mention of that anywhere in the plan. The plan in the reform was originally a Republican idea that was picked up on and put in the plan. So, don't tell me it isn't racially motivated. Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are inspiring people to hate the president all the time and I have heard some of their comments that would even motivate someone to be mad enough to commit violence. Then there is that crazy preacher that is praying for Obama to die of cancer. So many of what used to be mainstream Republicans have jumped in with the fringe of their party. The Republicans can holler all they want to. They were nailed and they know it.

In the News: President Carter, Cracker Barrel, Joe Wilson, and ACORN Don’t get it twisted! Race is always the predominant factor, because the esoteric definition of American culture is unsustainable; we say it’s not European, but principalities stipulate otherwise. If euro-sentiment, values, and opinion aren’t the central theme of appeasement, white America is in an uproar, e.g. language, governance, industry, attire, and religion. America’s culture is without exception, European tradition, philosophy, art/architecture, and law; what’s left is mere pretext. They came, they saw, they conquered…

J P   September 17th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

rick It does not matter if race was a factor a man hitting a woman is
wrong! The public should think about what President Carter SAID!!!!

Don   September 17th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Why would Cracker Barrel not voluntarily give the video to the Police??

Louisa   September 17th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Rich, Jimmy Carter is RIGHT.
The Healthcare issue is purely an umbrella for the demonstraters to express their outrage on a black Man being President of the USA. Racism does exist and the characteristics of racism are not vague.......they are very clear. We watch them on televison every day!

Sam Ormes   September 17th, 2009 7:01 pm ET

(From Sam Ormes, Diector of ICTV Inmate/Corrections Television
in the Dade County Jail 1986-2007)

Hey Rick...I enjoy seeing you on CNN and it always reminds me of those
reports you did about ICTV back in 1985 on WSVN 7 News and your
IMPACTO show, We were both a lot younger then and your coverage
paved the way for the ICTV project to get approved and funded. It was
on-the-air until 2007 when I retired and through the years was
portrayed by every TV and print medium in the world.

I have your reportages on ICTV in emailable size if you would like to
to see them...and a short story I wrote about your role in that historic
innovation.

Best wishes and THANKS !
Sam
