I'm glad to see that the people of Iran still have the strength to stand up for their freedoms. I wish them well.

BlueCat Democrat   July 9th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

I just don't feel you are covering Iran enough! MJ got days and he is dead. These people are alive and fighting for their freedom. The outcome could completely reshape the Middle East. It affects us all. This is news and the more you report and bring Iran's Gov. atrocities to the world the safer the brave Iranians fighting for their rights will be. Please give them the constant coverage you gave the King of Pop.

B.A.M.   July 9th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Since MJ's death I've scarcely seen news about Tehran. Judging from this and Time's article it seems that that it is starting to die down. I wonder if that has to do with the world diverting it's attention away from these protesters. Hopefully the violence will die down regardless.

MayanCountdown   July 9th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

The Only way America is Responsible for this is because we stand up for injustice in the same way. From the riots of Los Angles to the riots in my home town of Seattle. And Americans will do what takes for just in a heartbeat at the drop of a hat. So in that regard yes we're responsible. And when is the UN going to step in after Israel Bombs a country of people who have a dictator leading to the valley of death.

“cost of Michael Jackson's memorial SHOULD BE PAID BY THE CONCERT THAT RAKED IN 80 MILLION FOR NO PERFORANCE ... ”

As an iranian-american born and raised in the US, I am so proud of my people for standing up to this brutal, fascist regime.

Ahmed   July 9th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Rick, stop bringing anti-government people on ur show, if you think ur show is not bias then bring someone pro government, and Dinajad was elected by the people and shows like urs remindes me of Rush Lumbaugh, trying to bring unrest to Iran.

Soheil Irani   July 9th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Thank you Rick...thank you for bringing the news into focus and letting everyone know that this is SO IMPORTANT! What the people of Iran need is our support and knowing that we are watching.
All Iranians thank you.

Kathy   July 9th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Once IRAN People feel passion for FREEDOM -it will not be denied! Ahmadinjah is the past!

Capt. Gerald Menezes.   July 9th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

What has Al Jazheera have to say – are they balanced in their reporting? Their reaction might be very important in the Arab world – and to the world in general as CNN may look 'tainted' in their reporting in this case.

Gerald.

Kathy   July 9th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Iranian's passion for freedom is IMPORTANT Story! A free Iran important for the world.

Anonymous   July 9th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Rick–Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing the story of the brave Iranian citizens who are courageously fighting a dictatorial government. You're right. This story should be important to EVERYONE, to the entire world. Thank you for sharing it with us.

shannon   July 9th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Rick-
I am sitting here coloring my clients hair ,watching your show . We think that your part is slightly too far over. You are a good looking guy but we are thinking if you grow your hair out much longer, you will have the comb over. We love you Rick and want to save you from that look.

Capt. Gerald Menezes.   July 9th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

What has Al Jahzeera have to say? Their views might be more realistic to the Arab world than CNN which is taken to be anti-Iran and biased in the reporting of Iran.

Gerald.

qaisar   July 9th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

i guess MJ death is old news now and you guys had not much else to report.

Rick would you please air atleast one out of millions of mis-treatments being brought upon the palestinian people by the Israelis. Just one.

qaisar   July 9th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Ms Kathy Iran is free, May I say a free Palestine would be good for the people, would you second my opinion Ms Kathy

Jerrie   July 9th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Well if enough people have had enough! they will do something
about it one way or another! I want live to see it but it will happen here
in the usa one day.

ilse   July 9th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

I'm proud of their bravery because they want democracy! The same as people in Honduras want democracy but unfortunately they are not getting the attention. Having family on both sides of the world I wish you would also give equal coverage to the honduran plight. There are many peaceful demonstrations that have occured in Honduras but have not been shown. I continue to hope for democracy for both countries!

healthandbeautyconnection   July 9th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

I have been told by relatives in Iran, that the government is bringing in
men from afganastan, from villages to beat up on the demonstrators in Iran, since these men are not in their native country, they get paid very well, and do not have any emotional ties to Iran.

rooty kazooty   July 9th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

People forget that the protests that took place in the USA during the Vietnam era were habdled the same way that you are watching in Iran. Kent State had shootings... We must nor be so smug about our rights!!

Mike W   July 9th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Rick and the rest of the CNN Crew,

You all should tell the story and move on. Let the people interpret the news. I understand Iran is a big deal, but I am here at work on my break of 15 minutes and all I see is your Twitter posts saying the same thing over and over. We get it. Tell the story, tell the next story and quit with the suspensful details. Just tell it how it is.

I am neither a democrat or republican so I watch all news networks– but this is the reason I stopped watching Fox News. Just tell the story.

mcnair's girlfriend, immigrant from iran, at age 9, associated outside her muslim ties, was on a jihad. she committed an honor killing to correct her way and to die as a mortayr, to honor her family for insulting them. this is the muslim way.

Tarik El Hindi   July 9th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

RICK:

Yes, in Iran those cops standing on the corner are "THUGS" ....as per your today expression..

What do you call Israelis who shoot and kill Palestinians, steal their land, humiliate them on a a daily basis, control their movement, etc...? I believe a perfect expression you should use are "THUGS".....or even "WAR CRIMINALS"

Lets see how fair you truely are.????

H Thomas   July 9th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Great vidio on Iran. Would you please drop the banners at the bottom of the screen when showing live vidio. It blocks a lot of the action that is being shown. Thanks H Thomas

Archie   July 9th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Rick . . . Honor our Troops. Call out the names released each day of Troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

grrace   July 9th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

its all the others feeding a lot of BS to everyone

Tim   July 9th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Freedom is an earned product. You cannot give or hand it to anyone and expect it to grow and prosper. We must encourage the Iranian people to continue to rise up against the oppression they are suffering. The United States must always shine the light of freedom to whoever desires it in this world. That light includes helping with financial and spiritual needs that are crucial in any uprising.I hope and pray that our current admistration understands our reponsibility to all freedom seeking people around the world.

Shirley   July 9th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Rick, I just want to say that I watch your show every day,or should I say your news hour every day. You do a great job, you are so human and you show compassion In your reporting. I think You're a cool sorta guy. Okey dokey, carry on, thank you~~~~

Cheryl   July 9th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Thank you for getting back to the happenings in Iran. The courage of these people cannot be ignored. They are truely putting their lives on the line to stand up for their rights.

Rob   July 9th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

i say keep it up Iranians, the only way you`ll win is if you spill the blood! its what this country had to do to the British to gain our freedom!

James Garner   July 9th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

In the upcoming days, CA employees will be receiving IOU's in place of paycheck. What is more important...families eating or a 1.4 million dollar funeral? If I was a CA taxpayer, I would be complaining loud and long.

John   July 9th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Rick, Thanks for covering Iran again. CNN seems to be doing more for freedom fighter than the UN and many others who have only given lip service to the promotion of democracy ! Do not stop!
By the way, long live US celebirties (I hope no one else will die soon)!!

Balance   July 9th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Why you just cover Iran but not the huger and bloody CCP military/police crackdown in P.R.China? Are You Afraid of the communist party MORE?

Tirdad   July 9th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Iran is at the cross roads, they need west help to over throw this dictator regime, how can we help? we don't want another Tienamen Square.
We must do something or we may regret doing nothing.

problem with cracking down on China is they own to much of us to start throwing stones!

Great job Mr. Sanchez!!!

Rob   July 9th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

if a country really wants freedom then it is up to the people to provide for it, any outside help will not be a victory for them alone! the people of Iran are going to have to step it up and take down the repressive dictatorship by any means necessary!

Kathy   July 9th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

As American Citizen I feel the passion of Iranians as they struggle for freedom!

Long Live the Green Party!

Chris   July 9th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

McNair was an adulterer, not a role model. His commercial piece should not be aired on TV regarding suicide. It holds no water. Plus, if he is a spokesperson for suicide, perhaps he should have noticed the signs in his mistress.

Rob   July 9th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Dan you are right,, while we honor the WWII holocaust we mention nothing of the 20+ million killed by Pol Pot, or the 50 some million killed by Stalin in the gulogs, or the millions starved to death by Jong Il, or the millions murdered by the chinese Communist Govt., we must do more for these forgotten souls!

marie flynn   July 9th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

As concerned citizens , and fellow human beings it is extremely difficult for Americans to sit passively on the sidelines while we watch the people of Iran being beaten & killed for simply BEING in the streets. It is just not not in our DNA as Americans, we sympathize, we empathize, we want to help, yet we feel helpless.

john   July 9th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

For sixty years there has been a Holocaust against The Palestinians and we never see any broadcast from there. Why is it that Israel is not condemned for controlling the press and incarcerating reporters?Furthermore, the protests in Iran with people carrying signs in English are obviously aimed at Western audiences, and have the fingerprints of the CIA all over them. It is a step to destabalize the government and prepare the way for an American invasion ostemsibly to restore democracy. Obama is more dangerous than Bush because he is a smarter with more charismatic man who is expanding the war in The Middle East with a smile on his face. CNN should stop the complicity with the CIA ,and stop the double standard with regard to Israel and The Palestinians.

Neda   July 9th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Rick thank you so much for bringing Iran back in the news. As an Iranian American I thank you. The more Iran is in the news the harder it would be for the government to coverup everything. You have seen how Ahmadee talks as if everything is OK in Iran.

Rob   July 9th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

when do we hold all people accountable for their actions, and not celebrate them as heroes?

Maryam   July 9th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

The comment Rick just made about the farsi chant is incorrect. They are actually saying in that clip "dont be afraid, dont be afraid, we are all together!"

Rob   July 9th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

if we want to improve relations in the middle east we must look long and hard at our policies towards Israel, this is the root of all problems in the middle east!

Allen Glen   July 9th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Rick,

I appreciate the coverage on Iran. We need to create a great awareness. People need to know what goes on outside their zip code. I do somewhat agree with Mike W. Tell the news and move on. However, I do wonder if Mike was that passionate about media's sick obession over MJ.

What I would like to see is for CNN to invite experts and analysts on the field and have in depth discussion about people's struggle in Iran.

Alemiss, Houston, Texas   July 9th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Dear Rick,
I like your coverage of the freedom struggle going in Iran.

But do you remember what happened just 4 years ago in Ethiopia? Exactly the same situation, elections were held, opposition candidates sweep the election, but the ruling regime declared itself winner. Demonstrations followed, the regime summoned its elite force (much like the militia in Iran) and shot and killed over 200 people; it jailed over 100,000, some freed later, but some still lingering in jail, including those who were elected.

Can you tell me why the coverage is different for Iran when compared to Ethiopia? Deep inside i know why, but i hate to admit.

Terri Ham   July 9th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Watching the clips from Tehran makes me feel frightened for my children & Grandchildren. The world seems to be disinegrating rapidly! However, it also makes me glad that through Social Media we are at least aware which is the key to knowledge & hopefully effective action.

John   July 9th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

Ron, What makes Iran VERY different from WWII Holocaust, 20+ Million, 50 Million, China, or the world hunger , etc.. is that we are now at the crossroad that maybe even a small nudge (the butterfly effect) can change the outcome and events that may lead to preventing the above human assults from happeneing again.

Also, you wrote, "by any means that thet can." The strongest weapon that they are carrying is a rose and their honor.

karina   July 9th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

my comment is to Mr Rick Sanchez, I think that you when talk about a president of a country whether it is a small one, rich or poor you still should respect their president and the way you are referring your self is not appreciated ( THAT MEN ) his name is Mel Zelaya the president of Honduras. thank you

Serge Morel   July 9th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Well
Iran is going to be shortly a democratic country!! With good elections and so forth! All whit no Interventions whatsoever from the US and the British Empire!!!!
Does that means that they will be able to get civil nuclear reactors as offered to other arabs counties???
And all the Nukes power that Democraties have???
Wonder???

margbarmullah1   July 9th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

We support from all of myour hearts the demonstrations for democracy !

Allen Glen   July 9th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Karina,

I agree. We shouldn't call him THAT MAN. He should be called THAT CORRPUT DISHONEST MAN. And by the way, he is no longer the president. Honduras has a new president. If you want to talk about respect, let us respect their constitution.

Terri Ham   July 9th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

MJ's family might want him buried at Neverland, but would Michael want that? He said that after the child molestation investigation that Neverland felt "violated" & ruined for him!

Mitra   July 9th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Dear Rick;

Thanks a Lot for your suport. We don't know how to thank you for your reports on Iran. You are Great. U know how iimportant it is to let the world hear iranian voices inside Iran. They got nothing but their voice. Please SUPPORT THEM, AND LET PRESIDENT OBAMA HEAR THEIR VOICE TOO, AND ASK HIM TO SUpPORT IRANIAN PEOPLE MORE. THANKS RICK, GOD BLESS YOU.
MITRA

Serge Morel   July 9th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Freedom the American way???
Find your stance unusual!!!
On one side...US will do whatever it can to protect the way of life of the remnants of Amazonian tribes..Which surely are Democratics!!!
And on the other side...US does not accept the way of life of Iranians??
They had there own way of life and goverment for centuries!!! Even before Christ was born!!!
Is it good or bad??? Not for me to decide!!
Who are you to decide for others???
As for the demonstrations!! Looks to me...the same things hapened in the US not so long ago!!! Remener Berkeley!!

Rita   July 9th, 2009 4:33 pm ET

Thank you and Reza for keeping us informed on the current protests in Iran today.. You are one of the stations covering it. The world must know about this matter. Please continue this good coverage. We are watching!

Thanks.

Brian   July 9th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

Rick,
All journalist (including you) claim that they have integrity – I, and alot of people who previously watched CNN disagree. You people at CNN are rabblerousers – as if we need more war in the world in which any case your programmers under-report or marginalize . You will let anything come out of your mouth for a favorable rating. CNN is a gimmick, not a "news" outlet. Give me a break. I shake my head – "Only In America", Don King made that phrase famous. I think he's cut from the same cloth as you guys. Good luck. P.S. I'm an independent and we like Presidents who work hard like this one.

Serge Morel   July 9th, 2009 4:49 pm ET

Freedom the Occidental way???
On one side the UN created a free ISRAEL land following the athrocities of WWII
On The other side WE created millions.. living in refugee camps since WWII
Freedom???
Wonder if FREEDOM

Mobin   July 9th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

CNN makes an impact by responsible reporting of the events world wide. Iran situation is one of those events that CNN's role is making an absolutely positive impact on. Keep up the great work CNN and Rick Sanchez .

monte gilbreth   July 9th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Rick, My heart goes out to the protesters in Iran who are trying to make a statement. However it does remind me of the vietnam deminstrations of the 70s in SanFransisco, Ken State and other cities in the US, where heads were beaten in and students killed. The press in this country didn't cover the peoples views either...only the Governments,

Serge Morel   July 9th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

I read the article and watched Rick's report about Iran, I got so emotional in the same time so proud of those people In Iran who are so brave, they come out in street and chant down with Khamenie. God bless all of them.
I am very disappointed at Rick Sanchez when I saw he was interviewing Terita Parsi, I just wanted to let you know that Terita Parsi does not represent Iranian in USA or any part of the world, he does represent Iranian regime, if you do not know bout his background please check ((edited))
then you will find out about Trita Parsi, he does not represent any true Iranian and please do not bring someone like him to your show if you do not want to discredit your show, Trita has no respect in Iranian community aboard.

Shelva   July 9th, 2009 6:47 pm ET

I have heard you make your comments on TV on the subject on immigration ,I couldn't find a proper place to place this, but here it is. Can you tell me where this give into illegal's stops. I can understand that letting them into the us doesn't bother you or Nancy Pelosi or others but it bothers me. my husbands family has been in const. for all of their lives andconstruction has gone to the dogs. By that I mean contractors will hire these illegals they will come in and bid on jobs. Take them and then do sub quality work. Progress no. If they smear a little mortor between the brick or block or put a nail in a board its okay but the job is up, they are paid and gone. And the people that are here in the US by birth are on the wagon, not even on unemployment because the most of them are self employed. I can show you a house about a mile from me where a crew of these men went in, nailed a two x four on the wall and set the brick on that. No footing no foundation nothing and way less than one third of the wall ties they should have used. Boy are those people in for it when that falls in about a year and the contractor is gone and the warranty is gone. it is that way all over. I don't mind if these people come over here legally and have a job to go to that wil last for over a year. but they should have a job a place to stay and someone to look over their rights also. Every where you go here in Georgia and southern Tennessee all you see is Mexicans on the job. They are everywhere. I know of four or five families that llive in the same house. I understand that you are part or all mexican and you feel sorry for them. I feel sorry for anyone that is hungry, I feel sorry for the people that can't get unemployment and try to get medical help and most of the doctors here in Georgia will not take Georgia medical aid. I feel sorry for the Mexican families that I see on TV and the children are separated from their parents and kids are raising kids. But enough is enough. They need to be sent home and enter right. And our employers need to quit abusing them to line their pockets. There is so much money going out on illegals and their medical that our medical costs twice as much as it should. How would you feel if whomever owns cnn fired you and hired a bunch of illegals just because it was cheaper. Wouldn't sit too well with the pocket book would it.
Enough is enough! Oh by the way don't say I am prejudice. Three of my seven grand children are half hispanic and the most wonderful kids in the world. I have two of the greatest sons in law. They are American Citizens. One by birth and one the hard way!

shankarikali   July 9th, 2009 8:00 pm ET

The Tehran protest is a CIA job. Anyone that thinks this is just conspiracy theory ought to check out how the CIA was involved with the return of the Shah of Iran. It is done because Iran Oil is nationalized. It is used for the benefit of the Iranian people as a whole rather than US oil companies. The CIA is in there shaking things up and may have been directly involved in the death of the girl that was caught on TV.

Serge Morel   July 9th, 2009 8:01 pm ET

The world is disintagrating!!
Because we do not accept the differences!!
Polar bears have the right to do their own way!! And eat seals (By the way...it is not very funny to watch)
Sharks have the right to do their own way!! And eat seals and sometimes humans (Often seen on TV)
Wolves have the right to do their own way eating deers and mooses
Rats have the right to exist!!
But people : men...women...childrens..wih a different faith and way of life .do not have the right to exist !
Lets BOMB THEM!!!

Maybe it's time for all of us to ask ourselves a simple question???
What the eck am'I ???

chester   July 9th, 2009 8:31 pm ET

Love your show Rick. I can't help but wonder why Palin is STILL in the media eye? She doesn't seem to be capable to do much good for her state or this country. She is a quitter and so very NOT intelligent.

paul anderson   July 9th, 2009 9:14 pm ET

Congressman has no right to say that Michael Jackson is a pedophile.THIS A DEAD man cant defend him self .the Jackson`s should sue him for his comment and let him prove it .this family lost there love one and that all he can say . this can not be a us.congressman.

Hmmm...a little honest criticism about your broadcasting abilities and it doesn't get posted. Will this one? Especially if I call you a talentless hack again?

szewan   July 10th, 2009 12:06 am ET

No. His artistry outshone any allegations of impropriety.

Arash   July 10th, 2009 2:03 am ET

Thanks Rick for your coverage of the events in Iran. When I talk to people over there in Iran, the first and foremost request that they have from everybody outside Iran, is to cover the stories of what's happening in Iran. To show to the world how Iranians, in spite of all the suppression threats, have bravely taken to the street and risked their life to voice their opposition. These reports definitely make it harder for the government to crack down on its people. Please keep following and reporting the Iran's event.

ernest   July 10th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

hey rick dont you believe that that documenting illegal immigrant will help boost US economy, millions of them can not open bank account and are keeping money in their homes.documenting them and letting pay a fine of $5000 multiply by 12 million people can help pay for health care reform cost or down payment for American citizen.there is alot money out there in the coffex of the fed and they know who to give to or send to ask irs and SSA

mike   July 10th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

rick, as an iranian-american like to thank u for ur coverage on iran thanks again.

Raymond James Thibault   July 10th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Darn it all Rick they'll blame this on you too. Sounds like 1774 to 1776. Drive out the oppressors. Keep the Light of Freedom shining on Iran.
Who knows, maybe we can get a 3 for. Iraq, Afganistan and Iran, Free and Democratic Societies.

am sick and tired of the US news media saying that Obama is visiting Africa for the first time since he became President. So, his visit to Egypt is not a visit to Africa?Egypt is in north Africa while Ghana is in west Africa in the southern sub-sahara Africa.News media are there to educate the American public about Africa not being a country but a continent. So,the like of Sarah Palin will stop the idea that Africa is a country.

You mentioned 17 killed this week in Afgan... British and American. There were also Canadians killed too and I am upset you did not mention their sacrifice.

Martin in Shoreline, WA   July 10th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

It makes me feel that you should take Reza off of this story. He is incredibly bias. I can only assume he is Iranian. I am sure if Americans were rioting and screaming, "Death to Obama!"; Reza would support using any force necessary to shut the rioters down. That is called hypocrisy folks.

freeiran   July 10th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Mr. Sanchez
I would like to thank you for your candid report and your response to the events in Iran. you are the most honest and understanding reporter.
CNN has done a wonderful job reporting the Green revolution/uprising.
As an Iranian-American I salute you

Isabel (Canada)   July 10th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Rick, this is off the subject (Tehran) because this was the latest date I could add my comment on your blog. After hearing reports on the number of deaths that occur annually from prescription drugs, we need to wake up America to the dangers of pharmaceutical drugs; they can kill you. President Obama has introduced a very costly Health Care Reform package, but he needs to know that the system can be abused by both patients and doctors. In Canada, our Health Care System is monetarily through the roof. Why? Because when something is free, you are going to take advantage of it. There are patients running to the doctor unnecessarily, for every little thing; there are doctors who have you coming back every month whether you need to or not, not to mention their willingness to write you a prescription, adding to the give or more you are already taking.

Helen   July 10th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Please stop blaming the drug companies. They spend years to discover, develop and get good drugs that are property labelled for their appropriate use to the market for sick people that need them. People need to take responsibility for their own actions in obtaining these prescription drug illegally.

Pat, Miami   July 10th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

The media is really missing it here. A person of power who puts themselves in a comprimising position, is ripe for blackmail. This is not just a personal matter. These Senators and Reps. vote on hugh issues which affect us. We have seen time and again to what lengths they will go to cover up. This is the simplest of schemes to manipulate our government. This is an issue that goes far beyond a personal matter. Pat, Miami

Your focus on the abuse of Rx drugs is quite justified but there are ethical MD's who legitimately prescribe narcotic drugs because of very specific health needs. Both the doctor and the pharmacy must work together to assure these are and must be monitored.

Victoria   July 10th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

An ethical medical doctor and and pharmacy will monitor Rx medications closely and dangers of abuse should be known by all involved. Ideally, we would not need medications at all.

Victoria   July 10th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

How would you like thiese statements modified without submitting a legitmate opinion?

Marsha Taffett   July 10th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

This is a story of a someone who tried to quit perscription drugs but committed suicide because his brain no longer functioned normally.

My husband age 59 got hooked on Ativan prescribed by his doctor for his business-related anxiety. He became addicted within two months. He eventually was able to buy the drug over the Internet from a doctor in Florida. After a three year addiction he finally decided to quit and sought help. Doctors told him to do a 6 month taper off the drug with hospitalization. He did everything they suggested but he never regained his mental heath. He committed suicide while taking 5 other medications prescribed for detoxing from Ativan. The drug companies are making drugs to keep customers for their lifetime-when they stop taking them, they often die.

Victoria   July 10th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

There's a time and need for Rx medications. Obviously, MJ's meds were abused by the medical professionals and and the pharmacists involved. How unfortunate.

Cousin Art   July 10th, 2009 6:52 pm ET

Rick, maybe you can explain to us, the great unwashed, why our president says that we cannot "meddle" in Iran, but he has no qualms about pressuring Israel out of their settlememts, or taking on Honduras internal politics, on the side of Chavez, Castro, and the guy who was trying to subvert the electoral process in that country. It seems Jimmy, er, Barack is following that great Democrat tradition: treat our friends as enemies and our enemies as friends. I guess that when something goes terribly wrong as a result of their actions (as it has in the economy) they can always blame Bush. God help those poor bastards in Iran who thought the US had a moral leader who would come to their help!

Henry   July 11th, 2009 8:13 am ET

We had a leader that created the same barriers of racism, and ethnic cleansing of mexican immigrants, and it bled over into intolerance for american latinos, and we know it will progress to blacks and indians and all other minorities , that they will say resemble middle eastern people , not to mention run away with using fear to push their hate agendas of separatism ideals.

BUSH was just as big of dictator or worse.

look at the La peace marches for immigrants , and the order handed down from the Bush admin to fire bullets of rubber on the crowds of children and women...
yeah cowardism is not to far from the POLICE STATE of the rethuglikkkan regime.
such as 287G and SB81
two examples of the foreseeable civil rights violations that will spark hate crimes against all minorities , once they think its ok with immigrants they will move to all hispanics , because these types recruit and spew their hate, and push their agenda with fear tactics, then it will spill over to black people and all other minorites.

we need to abolish these anti democracy laws based upon saftey to the public from law enforcement and to not allow the state to follow the precedences of the federal courts and supreme court and mak up their own , so they are not bound by the Constitutional guarantees and can abridge them safe guards.

these laws are in conflict with the Constituion, and empowering the state police to have the same power as federal officers, leaves no error for police brutality or whos watching out for the indivual rights or human rights of being safe for the family or the individual.

Tirdad   July 11th, 2009 10:13 am ET

Hi Rick;
What would it take to convince Obama doing something is better than nothing. If we don't help Iranians overthrow their Suprem Killers, then these thugs will get the nukes and start the Third world war.
Today this thing can end with minimum colateral damage, who knows what will happen when the nukes are there.
Lets Free Iran now
Support brave Iranians to achieve Freedom

Steph   July 13th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

I have to agree with a previous commenter, this issue needs more coverage. Rick you could single-handedly be the reporter that makes the world take notice of this issue. Its SO important for this issue to get out, and I hate to throw your own words back at you, but you said last week... "We owe it to them to show these images...."

You said that, now please restore my faith in you as my favorite reporter and back it up.

D.Ellerbe   July 13th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Those senators that are against the selection of Judge Sotomayor
are those born with a silver spoon and never had to work for anything.
They got the job because they were white whether qualified or not.
I know because I have been there, and it is hard for them to understand or have empthy for those that had to prove that they were
worthy of the job.and had to be double qualified to get just a job. When handed everything on a tray it is hard to know any other. The world is made up of people of color so you may as well get use to it.
I'd like to see their transcripts from college. Don't be jealous .

WENDIE   July 14th, 2009 10:59 pm ET

We've been overwhelmed with tabloid style reporting as of late...
Could we get some real investigative reporting on MJJ death?

WHAT EVERYONE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY KNOWS, YET HAS NOT VOLUNTEERED REGARDING INQUIRY into MJ’s death:

Everyone who has ever worked in concert production KNOWS this well: The Concert Production Company INSURES Talent: i.e. (a) in case they cancel or do not appear and (b) are injuired or (c) they die.
This insurance covers all of the liability for the Production Company for any “losses”.

IN PERSPECTIVE: Why is this relevant? Why should we be looking in this direction? LaToya just may have a point!

IF, as is usual, the coverage in this case may well be worth more than the cost to return price of sold tickets, and Michael was nervous about 50 shows vx. 10 shows….WHO BENEFITS?????

These concerts were sold out, and I have not heard about any monies being returned.

The insurance policy SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED, OR AT LEAST READ THOROUGHLY, BY SOMEONE WHO IS CONVERING THIS STORY.

TRIPLE DIP????

!1) Monies collected for sold out concerts, retained by production company.
(2) Mones to be collected by insurance policy covering ther performer…this is why he had “the physical” , folks! In death, this amount usually escalates. How much did they insure him for in this policy?
(3) Mones to be made: 100 plus hours, tribute concerts, etc.

vs…”Cost”….

Yes, royalties to the estate still apply. But, just think about all of the moines that WILL NOT BE NEEDED NOW IN THE BUDGET!

While coverage continues, and LaToya has been mocked as a conspiracy theorist, she just might have a point!

Follow the money trail! BEGIN with the Insurance Policy for the Concert Series. Do a forensic audit of same, in tandem with an expert analysis of “the physical that he passed with flying colors”.

Things are not adding up…with the exception of revenues adding up for those who last exploited him.

I am just curious. Did they ever get a signed approval from MJ for the fifty concert extension????

And, another thing: Who did the physical that he “passed with flying colors” for the Concert Insurance Policy? Was it the same doctor as the one who was “living in”; then disappeared? Hmmmm

A friend and fellow Lupus Sufferer.

How do you feel about a latina being verbally abused?do you think it's fair?

Alexander   July 16th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Why has this topic fallen to the wayside. It should still be in the headlines. Its a shame when the death of one Musician can drown out the outcry Of a nation looking for freedom.

Wavie   July 16th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Your piece on "Wise Latino Women" was good. Your mother speaking in her native tongue upset some. You were prepared for this because you explained it elequently. Young wise Latino man.

sarit sulkowski   July 21st, 2009 4:19 pm ET

My name is Sarit Sulkowski and i am from Toronto, Canada.
I really hope the medical system in the U.S. won't become like the system in Canada. I thank god every day for the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.
The system in Canada is terrible everybody knows that. More people are in chronic care departments because they don't get treated in time.
When you have to wait 12 weeks for an MRI and 6 months to see an orthapedic surgeon a lot of things can go wrong in your body and your mind: the initial injury that you had can get worse, rehabilitation time would be much longer and you can go nuts from waiting and even maybe get addicted to pain medication from being in pain for such a long time and then what???? I just watched Rick Sanchez interview a doctor from Toronto and a doctor from the U.S. : the doctor from Toronto said that we have the best doctors in the world???? i don't think so, and even if we do, if i need to wait 6 months to see the best doctor, by the time i see him i don't think he would be able to help.
I am 30 years old from a below middle class family and i traveled to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio for diagnosis because it wasn't available in Canada. I traveled all the way there for an MRI and nerve blocks because i didn't want to be 6 months on a wheelchair not knowing what was wrong and suffering. I didn't have money i took loans.
I am very greatful for your medical system. What i think should be done to your health care is: to give free health care to everyone but to also have the option of having private clinics that are monitored by the goverment (same system they have in Europe).
PLEASE DONT HAVE THE SAME SYSTEM WE HAVE IN CANADA BECAUSE WHERE WILL US, CANADIANS GO FOR TREATMENTS?
To have free healthcare is not always good, it has to be good health care. If you get garbage for free would you take it???? but its freeee.

Ray Evans Harrell   August 5th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

Sarit Sulkowski makes the same kind of complaint that I've heard from Americans when they get taken care of abroad. I have a friend who was afraid of Italy's healthcare and another who complained about England but my old teacher Dorothy Uris spoke very highly about the care she got in the Soviet Union when got sick on a lecture tour there.

Everyone has there own story but that has nothing to do with were we are in the world in healthcare or infant mortality. Or the fact that I get better care at the VA than my wife does on private insurance. Also all of my Canadian students here go home for healthcare. Not a single one has said that they would rather stay here and pay for their care. Evidently Cleveland is good. My sister gets good care their under Kaiser and certain clinics are good around the country but that isn't a system. That is just a local anomaly. Why can't we do better or are we just too inept at systems to do so? If America is what it claims, then we should be better. That's my opinion. Meanwhile God Bless the VA.
