And by "OUR" fault, I mean CNN's fault. That's what the Iranian government is saying! Tehran blames the western media in general, and CNN, The New York Times, the BBC, and Newsweek magazine in particular. Iranian officials believe these news organizations are intentionally stirring up trouble during the country's post-presidential election unrest.

Now, they say, a Canadian citizen working for Newsweek magazine in Iran has "confessed" to those charges. Maziar Bahari was arrested in late June, and his magazine is of course demanding his immediate release. Iranian officials say Bahari made that "confession" during a prison news conference.

Has anyone seen that alleged news conference? No.
Does anyone have video, photo, or audio evidence of Mazier Bahari at any news conference? No.
Is Newsweek magazine taking this news lying down? Of course not.

Here's Mazier's story on CNN.COM.

Watch this clip: Rick Sanchez interviews Newsweek's Mideast Regional Editor. Christopher Dickey calls those allegations against our colleague "preposterous".

Dear Rick Hi

If you believe Iranian are smart then not only oppsition or anti-rgime
are but ruling parties and goverment are smart too if not smarter!?

They monitor CNN 24/7 days and the see 99 percent of CNN prgrams
are about every movement in Iran !! they see the protesters are
sending comment pictures films continuousley to CNN and it goes
on the antena right away , they see CNN is giving to oppositions
whole one sided story !? and making Americans public against
Ahmadi Nejad !? and yet You make doubt !! about Iran govement

Cnn did not this much cover to Tien Anmen square, and CNN
did not cover to 1989 cllapssing of CCCP , You can go to archive
and review them , Why Iran is so important?

J. Smith   July 2nd, 2009 10:38 am ET

The Black people are well aware that Coby Briant and Michael Jackson were set up. there are white supremacists that 'Hate" the fact that Black artists and Black athletes are acquiring wealth because of their gifts and talent.
They find ways to EXTORT hard earned money from Black Men, its not a hard thing to do.

J.Smith

Martin in Shoreline, WA   July 2nd, 2009 1:26 pm ET

Saying it is your "fault" is a bit much. But the American media is reporting on Iran in a dishonest fashion. It is no wonder to me why you were kicked out.

You say we are in the Middle East "fighting for our freedom". That is a lie. We are interested in the oil over there and nothing else. You say the Iranian military are attacking people for no reason. Another lie. If protestors were throwing rocks at police and setting things on fire in America, we would respond the same way. Remember Kent State? Or how about the Bonus Army, when we opened fire on our veterans.

You expect other people to act differently than we would. I would kick you out of my country too.

Martin in Shoreline, WA   July 2nd, 2009 1:32 pm ET

@ J. Smith

YOU are the reason we will never get past race in this country. I will not deny that MJ and Coby were set up. But it had nothing to do with white supremacists; and everything to do with greedy women. You need to stop seeing racism in everything.

How about the way rappers extorted Vanilla Ice out of the royalties to his hit song? THAT is far closer to the kind of racism you are talking about. I suppose you think black men are in prison because of racism. Never mind the fact that blacks murder more people than any other ethnic group in America, including whites. If blacks murder more people than whites, you would expect there to be more black people in prison than whites. Race is not the issue.

beairdboy   July 2nd, 2009 1:55 pm ET

Michael and Debbies children should go to their biological mother. We now know Michael is the legal parent but this does not mean he is the biological father. The children should go to Rowe not Mrs. Jackson or Diana Ross. As long as Debbie is a decent human being she should be the next in line for the guardianship for her children. I hope Debbie is not afraid of the Jacksons.

Meg   July 2nd, 2009 2:11 pm ET

This is just another example of the Iran government and president trying to blame someone else for their problems. I feel sorry for the reporter in jail.

No wonder they killed Michael, They invite the worlds biggest star to be the announcement for their new government and Michael salutes while singing "They dont really care about us" (and now I, not even a jackson want the lyrics to that album) find out whos involved in orchestrating this event and you find the killers!

Bobby   July 2nd, 2009 3:33 pm ET

I guess all the ranting and criticizing that all of the major media has done about our troops staying in iraq to win the hearts and minds of the local people was just posturing, since now that we are going to do the same in afgahnistan under Mr. Obama its a NEW plan.

timeka101   July 2nd, 2009 3:34 pm ET

hi rick i think that everyone needs to stop fussing about michaels death and just deal with it. let him REST IN PEACE without people complaining every five seconds. he does not look skinny, if you were a true michael fan you would know that he has always been that skinny. it's just a rehearsal for god's sake STOP COMPLAINING!!! i bet if this was elvis, or any OTHER person the people would welcome the news with open arms to keep talking about it. nobodys telling the news reporters to stop talking about the real issues but michael touched lives everywhere and some people are just going to have to except it

Mary   July 2nd, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Our soldiers safety should be a large priority for the United States. These men and women are giving their lives for our freedom. How can we keep them safe when so much information about where they are stationed, maps showing where they will be going, numbers of how many troops are deployed and so forth are broadcasted on CNN for the taliban to see. The individuals we are dealing with are not unintelligent. They watch our tv, they follow our news, and why is that? Because too much of our personal information is broadcasted to them to use against us. It is great to know this information but I can't see how it is safe for our soldiers.

Charity from Virginia   July 2nd, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Rick..I viewed the rehersal video of Michael Jackson and.......he really looks Sick, has no Energy like he normally would have and it looks like he was taking it easy on the stage.

For long time fans..we would notice the change in his stage performance, Michael Jackson was crying for help on stage.

RIP Michael Jackson

Sentient   July 2nd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

If anyone has access to the performers i would interview them and find out who reacted at the time to his lyrics. Everything about this clip screms deception. Have you notice the voice in the background, proclaiming this to be the something something show of freedom.....Ever.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH about Jackson.

Lisa Apijari Pocrass   July 2nd, 2009 3:38 pm ET

The Michael Jackson video that you just aired looks amazing. I want a copy! I hope in the days to come there will be a way to purchase one. Anyone who enjoyed his music/dancing/performances will most likely want a copy also! I loved him and if he didn't die, I would have gotten tickets to at least one but probably more than one show here in the United States. Therefore, I would love to have a copy of his last performance, even if it was a rehersal, just to see what I would have seen live!
I absolutely loved Michael Jackson! Probably too much :)

Sentient   July 2nd, 2009 3:39 pm ET

or has the attention span of the average american already run its alloted time, if so you deserve whats coming from our corporation government. I tried to write the millitary to let them hear what i have to say and to react, but so far have been unsuccessful

Charity from Virginia   July 2nd, 2009 3:42 pm ET

It really needs to be taken as a grain of salt to realize that Michael Jackson was sick for a long time.
Unfortunately most people such as fans, critics, media and even family did not see Michael Jackson for who he really was as a person. Yes, MJ has been skinny for a long time, like some people... skinny is not always the healthiest just like being overweight isn't always healthy to be realistic.Michael Jackson will Never be replaced for his talent.

Everyone loves Michael Jackson and always will.

ED MCCAULEY   July 2nd, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Just wanted to add my feelings on our Presidents stand on health care reform. We are being deluged to what amount to nothing more than "infomercials" on the benefits of his program and than to add insult to injury, spending tax dollars on blanket prime time TV ads touting his program. Since when did we the "money source" approve that??

john ficht   July 2nd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Give us a break please!!! Coverage almost 100% MJ and 99% glorifying him. He was bizzare drug addict with a history of child molestation accussations. If he didn't have all of this false adulation surrounding him he would be considered a child predator and shuned by society. Get back to reporting the important news, I am repulsed by his images.

Amanda   July 2nd, 2009 3:45 pm ET

I loved Michael and I always will.
There could never be "too much love" for this man.

Hey Rick why r these dr. having trouble with the mj death. He was skinny because he was on demeral . he died because he did not want to go through withdrawal so he took Dipriv

skinny   July 2nd, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Why is everyone making so much fuss about Michael's weight. I am a thin person as well. Should I be worried that I am going to die if I over exert myself??
RIP... MJ

Sentient   July 2nd, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Its a good thing Michael has so many fans maybe that will have some effect on a nation conditioned to lose interest quickly. When you shorten peoples attention span, important, world changing events only hold there attention until the next diversion is utilized to distract us. People truly are Sheep who are taught to follow blindly by churches using their power to blind them to the truth, bad church, good thing i have trust issues and therefore dissect EVERYTHING! to seek out the truth for myself

Debbie Arruda   July 2nd, 2009 3:47 pm ET

I think Michael Jackson looked excellent and very well and someone who is sick would not be able to move like that and he sounded great Michael has always been thin all through his career I wish people would stop talking about how thin and freal his was like i said if he was sick and freal you would not be able to dance like that or sound so great.

linda   July 2nd, 2009 3:50 pm ET

MJ will always be known as a great performer. He looked great in that video. He looked healthy to me!

Thank you for finally giving coverage to what is happening in Afghanistan. My son is one of the marines over there- I am so proud of him and his fellow troops and they deserve our support- when I talk to my son, he always asks if the news is reporting what is happening- it is disheartening to think that the majority of Americans never give our marines and soldiers a second thought- but they are sacraficing every day for our safety and freedom- Please keep them in the front and center, let us never forget that as we go about our daily lives- thousands of our American and Coalition troops are there, protecting our safety and freedom.

Amanda   July 2nd, 2009 4:00 pm ET

He looked VERY healthy indeed. He was NOT ready to die. His Dr needs to lose his license bc he should have known better. He let Michael DIE.
Michael should still be here with us...
He has ALWAYS been skinny so yeah, how is him being skinny being based on him being sick???
If he had a bad heart I don't think he would've been able to get out there and do what he was . . . about to do.
And they NEED to keep Neverland opened. Michael opened it and it would mortify him if they closed it...
Personally based on my finances at this time I can't afford to go out there to give our personal condolences and respect, but by God, my son and I WILL be out there within the next year.
Long live Michael,
Long live the K I N G<3

Sentient Dust   July 2nd, 2009 4:22 pm ET

when you stop writing about Michael, thats the point in time at which he will begin to fade,to cease to exist, like he never was, that his life can be meant nothing your admiration of the average man ascending to the heights, insustantial that you will let that which means most to you go, fade with time show the world that life and rememberance of the dead and how they died. Hold the lesson to your hearts and dont let the conditioning to be diverted and to forget take control. This will be harder than you imagine, we are conditioned to forget

Hi Rick, i was watching the video rehearsals with MJ and he looks good,& strong for a 50yr old not as strong when he was younger but still good. I'm a huge fan i love him very much, but thought he looks a bit thin if you look back at a 2003 bet awards show with him & James brown he looked real good. I actrually think that was the biggest i ever seen him, also the world 2006 awards he looked good there also. yes he is known to be a thin person, but that tape did not really look like the michael i am used to thats just my opinion, & it makes me wonder know what was really going on in is last days to even lead to his death love MJ In my heart forever Rip.

Ricardo   July 2nd, 2009 4:34 pm ET

They told us US troops were leaving cities in Iraq remaining on bases there. Today they tell us an US soldier was captured by the Taliban in Pakistan but "No further information was provided by the military on the identity of the soldier who is missing, or where the individual was based."... and Rick, you said troops are being moved to Pakistan to rescue the soldier... which country is between Pakistan and Iraq?

Washington Post adds "Military officials in Afghanistan, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the situation, said the missing soldier appears to have walked off his base into an unsecured area."

So, mysterious Afghan is giving contradictory information (CBS said US military doesn't know where he/she was based) and nobody knows who is the soldier or what he/she was doing... fishy... mmm :-/

I think he did something, maybe not intentionally,& that could be why he took so long to call for help, all for the love of money. His lawyer seem like he himself don't have much sense but god knows best, don't be suprise this doctor end up taking his own life, don't want to sound cold but i'm angry we lost a one of a kind.Love you Michael.

This does not make sense. Please follow up with this because I am cuban like you and this hurts.

Harold Anthony   July 3rd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Rick, I sent a suggestion to Obama but no response. Here it is: if all members of congress and the administration were to lose their health benefits, members and families, until a decent plan is passed, how soon do you think we might have a health care bill passed? Can you mention this please? They all have "jobs" and health care (as do I) but not all my grown children have both.

Has anyone considered that Palin may have a recently disclosed medical problem which would explain doing this on a slow newsday? For examte, breast cancer. It would explian the suddeness of the announcement as well as the timing and not completing her term.

What's up with Palin? She said she is leaving the Gov's office. Did she resign because she did something illegal? It was painful to watch her speak on TV because she seemed nervous and couldn't breathe like she is worried about something coming out about her.

Jan   July 3rd, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Hi Rick, While I cannot tolerate Sarah Palin. I believe that she is a selfish, opportunistic, ego driven want a be representative of the people particularily women, I am not one of those women, it certainly is a refreshing break from Michael Jackson. I truly respect his abillties as a musician and entertainer, but certainly don't think he is a role model for our young people. He goes beyond the line of eccentric. Come on media are you so desparate for news that we have had Michael morning noon and night since the announcenent of his death. Enough is enough.

DAVID SHOYOMBO   July 3rd, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Sarah came, looked and GAVE up. I believe she will still come back.

Hey Rick, after hearing Sarah Palin's farewell speech,I wasn't so much impressed with the self serving content although, we should all agree that honoring our troops is extremely important. The gist of her words indicate that she will run for president " America will look to the north for leadership" I think she should call it day,@ look after her brood@ quit listening to Rush, Sean, Bill,@Glenn for her talking points

RUBY ROY   July 3rd, 2009 4:49 pm ET

Judge Harold Lee   July 3rd, 2009 5:11 pm ET

I am sure I have exceeded reasonable length requirements, So please feel free to edit my comments. Please just help us to get the Buzz necessary to rid our country of this racist organization. Thank you.

Rick, for over four years the Arizona Poker War has been raging in the mist of a muzzled local press. The amount of money spent on media advertising is affecting the coverage in the local media. We have even been denied the opportunity to purchase advertising for our lawful business. Our union is the International Card & Game Players Association, Inc of Tombstone, AZ (www.icgpa.org). Our battle is with the gambling industry regarding our right to organize the sport of poker, as well as our right to provide safe and secure venues for our membership.

We have received sanction and license from prosecutors and municipal governments in 2005; but a rogue police agency, backed by gambling industry revenues, completely ignores those authorities. They leave the jurisdiction of the BIA reservation system and conduct illicit raids and confiscate our property; with full knowledge at the time, that they cannot get a complaint from any of our state’s prosecutors.

The gambling industry, which is not welcome to do business in the state, has now successfully invaded the jurisdiction of the State, and blatantly ignores our prosecutors. Our union obtained prosecutorial nullification of the state’s gambling statute for our union over four years ago. The Arizona Department of Gaming (the DOG) ignores the public proclamations and local licenses, in an overt effort to bust our union and claim a monopoly over our sport and profession in the State of Arizona.

Why would prosecutors permit us to organize the sport; only to layback and watch the gambling industry, ignore their pubic proclamations, and bust our union? The reason is quite obvious; they are both suckling the same teat, the Arizona Indian Gaming Compact. Apparently, state authority, and the local media, would rather have their thirty pieces of silver from an immoral gambling compact, than protect our rights (or the sanctity of their jurisdiction).

In defense of our union, we went directly to the DOG’s sanctuary on the Pascua Yaqui Indian reservation outside of Tucson to invite them to join us in a joint venture. This joint venture would finally afford them an opportunity to become a part of the mainstream business community. We then began conducting our own research into the origin of this system; what we uncovered (and uncovered is the appropriate word) appalled us.

We found a un-American institution that is blatantly promoting and supporting apartheid. Our oldest bureaucracy has been flying under the radar of the American people’s conscience for 185 years. We are seeking journalist with sufficient independence, on the national scene, to peer beneath the surface of this patently racist organization.

I have posted this on our blog for the Fourth of July holiday. I hope it you can find it in your heart to help us bring our story to the people. Thank you for your consideration.

On the Michael memorial? What a DUD! The World Loves This Man, no if's or but's about it, weather anyone likes it or not, He is a Super Star, & the world is watching us to see fireworks & we throw him a DUD!!17,000 is a Joke. see you Rick.

Thanks a lot for eliminating the really important story about going into Afghanistan to announce Palin's news today. Then we listened to you and your people speculate what she meant and is she running for president. Why not let us decide what she meant and then tell us if and when she runs. Shame on you all!!!!

Hi Rick, i don't mind if the media keep talking about MJ, to those that don't like it change the channel, he deserved his time, especially he's gone i wish they would only leave the negative stuff behind & focus on the good he have done.

Michael is the only person that died & i heard so much bad stuff, what happen to he was a good person ? that is what i'm used to earing when someone is dead, even when the person probably was a devil when they were alive. Spite his ups & downs he was a good man in my eyes, start giving him the respect he deserved lets not judge only god knows, let him do his job & leave Michael alone & stop doggin him around, let him be at peace.

I don't think Debbie deserve the kids, Why because she is mom ? please love comes from anyone that can give it, some real parents out there sucks and it would even be better if a stranger had there kids. She gave up her rights a long time ago, i find the media fight agaist Michael when he was alive & even in death, why are they pushing Debbie to come & collect her kids? the Jackson's family deserve peace. Let MJ gets his final wish.

Sarah huh, please that news i could careless...

Rick:

Journalists put their lives on the line to cover public events in the middle-east. In 2003, a Canadian-Iranian journalist named Zahra Kazemi was beaten & tortured & thrown down stairs while under detention in Iran. She died because she was trying to cover prison issues during the region-wide crackdown against dissidents during the period of extraordinary rendition.

The Canadian government has never been able to fully ascertain the events that lead to her death, and that's in spite of the strongest diplomatic pressure levelled at the time against the Iranian government.

So, if you ask me the North American governments are lying down right now. Newsweek and the other major international media will have no real leverage to negotiate with those governments that deny international media reasonable access to cover public events until Western governments make the issue of a free media a priority at the international and G-20 level.

That's also an increasing issue in Russia where there has been deadly violence against independent journalists, and particularly women. If freedom of the media and a recognized standard of broadcasting was part of trade & open-market negotiations, for example, there might be a greater ability for all media to establish a more independent voice and reporting standard. It should be an immediate issue for CNN and other American media in the coming week since Pres. Obama's first meeting with Russian Pres. Medvedev is Monday.

Of course, what might help journalists throughout the region even more than governmental support at the G-20 level is if there was genuinely free reporting about the West's involvement in the middle-east wars. !!

Hey Rick I was thinking; if you conform to Rush's tack ticks and rant and rave in Alli's Name they may get it. Better yet set up a debate between Rush, Newt and Let Dick bring his Bird Gun. They Mullahs in Iran might just respect people so far in Right Field as they are. I think The Presidents of The U.S and Iran should. a little one on one Basketball, a round or two in the boxing and wrestling ring. Better yet a Stand up routine in Harlem. See whos funnier. I Suggest they Debate. On How to keep your wife happy. Obama can explain Love and tenderness, The irainian can tell us about the newest in restraints and Duck Tape.

Hollly Douglass   July 6th, 2009 9:53 am ET

Well, I guess by blaming part of the democratic process (freedom of speech) for civil unrest, the regime in Iran may be trying to dissuade their people from seeking democracy. Oh the irony...

nikki   July 6th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

I dont think its out fault. but i damn sure think we should just stay out of it! we have enough problems of our own to deal with. let iran settle their own battles!!!

Gordon Miller   July 6th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

"Pedophile" unproven, but Jackson did once say on television interview that he saw nothing wrong with sleeping with boys to give them "love." MJ was a musical-entertainment genius who, unfortunately, self-destructed with a prescription drug addiction he admitted years ago - so why is everyone so "shocked" he finally killed himself with it, apparently. Like a trainwreck, his live and death are newsworthy, but not to the exclusion of other national and international events.

jan   July 6th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

I am very concerned about this country as well Mr. King. Michael Jackson was found innocent of the accusations! But what really concerns me is the lack of respect for the family. MJ was somebody's child, brother, uncle, cousin, etc. What if this were your child? I don't understand what is happening in this country.

lorenzo obama   July 6th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

rep King is just another racist republican....how about all the money michael jackson donated to suffering children around the world. the problem is that republican politicians are always approaching every issue with an open mouth...and this is an insult to black folks

Joe Shook   July 6th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Michael Jackson was only acquitted of the counts brought against him by one person! That does not automatically make him a Saint!
He was already known to have paid people off under numerous other situations, and though that isn't proof of guilt, it sure smells like a fish!

Come on, America, either learn what you are talking about or SHUT UP!

Les W   July 6th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

This is the first time I agree with a Rupblican!

barbara foley   July 6th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Peter King got it right. A week and a half of Michael Jackson is way over the line. Please don't compare him to Princess Diana's coverage. . I certainlly would not want a child of mine to use him as a roll model. It makes me ill to even go there. And............Jackson was acquitted in a trial but so was O.J. Simpson. All it takes is a bunch of smart attorneys and a jury in love with celebrity. I certainly hope CNN doesn't cheapen itself more by staying with this story. There is news to be said........................and this story should be buried along with Jackson.

Janice Chambliss   July 6th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

I used to think our elected officials were the best & the brightest. Now, when the speak or act, I cringe. Peter Kings statements are so irresponsible. The only people who know for sure if Michael was guilty is those who were there or participated. Maybe Peter King participated!! Experience has shown us that those who point fingers are trying to hide their own sins. I wonder what skeletons are in Peter King's closet. He also was irresponsible in his statements about Caroline Kennedy. I hope in the future some intelligent, upstanding individuals will be elected to congress. Peter King, Sarah Palin, Ensign, & Sanford, someone help us please!!

Diana Hanna   July 6th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Rick, I believe the Congressman's comments are slanderous and inappropriate. Yes we all agree that Michael Jackson's lifestyle concerning children sleeping in his bed was strange, but I believe he never molested any children. In his mind sharing his bed was ok. He was found NOT GUILTY! Let's remember that the first case was settled out of court and the child involved, who is an adult now has admitted that nothing ever happend and that his parents coerced him to lie. As a mother of two boys, If somene molested my children, no amount of money would erase the loss of innocence and harm to my child. I would want that person procescuted to the fullest extent of the law! and even executed! Finally this congressman should get back to the job the voters put him there to do and look at the "Man in the Mirror and ask himself what does he want people to say about him when he dies!

Babyleg   July 6th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Hi Rick, in reference to the public official Pecker King. He is an obvious Idiot! More than likely he was @ a party with the rest of his KKK associates and he did that on a dare. Even an IDIOT! like Sara Palin would not make a public statement like PECKER did. And for the record the late great MJ was never convicted of any crimes in his life in our criminal courts. But then again he is a politician, they are above the law. Just one more thing. Pecker said he is speaking on the behalf of the citizens! Well HELLO! I'm a citizen, and he dam sure isn't speaking on my behalf.

NO, I believe all of us American love to support the idea's of true democracy, but we don't support the violence on both side. But I can see where the bitterness of the people of Iran comes from in their country. When a Government tell people what they can and can not wear they have gone to far.

I hope eventually that they can have equality across gender, ethnic, income, spiritual, and religious divides eventually. But we have enough of a problem accomplishing that in our own great country. I try not to think about them that much, other than their Nuclear program.

And their presidents demand for greatness. I believe the greatest men try to focus on peace rather than war.

Weapons of mass destruction needs to go away as their primary motive for greatness. Instead of wanting to wipe people off the face of the earth that are trying to live peaceful live among them just because they don't want to pray seven times a day to a god or prophet that they don't believe in.

Just so they can claim to have won some form of stupid jihad type of movement for their religious movement for greed and profit for the oil industry, I guess.

I'll get of this soapbox I guess. Oh and maybe we should drop so cluster bombs full of bikini's instead of anti-personnel mines.

Then of coarse there is the problem with Hollywood, since they do not represent the Muslim community world wide to well either, that's about all I have to say.

Hassan   July 6th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

well it would not be the first time that the U.S media is blamed for terrible coverage and biased reporting in a country that we do not like. as a muslim, I am used to seeing anti-islami reporting on muslim countries. now i don't agree with the iranian regime in iran and what they have done to their own citizens. I admired them from being better than the oppressive arabs regimes of egypt and saudia arabia (which by the way here in the U.S consider them allies and moderates). but now it seems that as if iran is becoming more and more like them. it is sad to see that. however let's look at the coverage of the iranian elections. i think we all agree what the regime did there was wrong and against islamic values. however the way CNN had 24 hour coverage of that and you compare that to what is happening in Honduran and China (where 140 people have been killed-7 times the number of people killed in iranian protests) and is it the fair amount of reporting?? where are all the twitter updates and ireporting?? not even in CNN's top headlines. but then again, when it is an islamic country this is the way it is. did CNN ever show videos and reports of all the muslims that marched in the streets of Karachi and tehran against the terrorist attacks of 9/11?? of course not, do they show the coverage of MILLIONS of refugees in pakistan who have become victims of war against the taliban to finish a fight for the U.S, of course not? no. it just seems like MORE BIAS, MORE BULL

Tom Earley   July 6th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

When will our American leaders finally get it. Iran hates us as do the rest of the Arab nations. Some will go as far as to have diplomatic relations with us but don't be fooled; the hatred that lives in the middle east is thousands of years old. They will hate us until one side wins, and the other is dead. That's the reality our politicians are too afraid to convey to the American public. Instead most of our egocentric presidents repeat the idiocracy of the past and have another summit, to sign another peace treaty. How many treaties, how many commmemorative pens, how many photo ops? Enough already; lets either all become muslims, or lets fight this holy war to its inevitable end.

Helen Dussault   July 6th, 2009 5:53 pm ET

Keep up the good work, Ladies and Gentlemen of CNN and maybe someday peace and democraty will fleurish in places like Afghanistan and no woman will be shoot to death on the street anymore.

As far as the Canadian journalist admiting to all the wrong doing by the press, did he admit to all these things before or after they tortured him or beat him up. I would really love the answer to that question.

Bobby   July 6th, 2009 7:32 pm ET

TO: Darlene
You are so right on point. I wish this was a new, but this country has been celebrating celelbrtiy over true heroism for decades. The best hope I have is that there are still people like you who understand what truely makes this country great, and know the real sacrifices that are made everyday. God bless you, GOD bless america, God bless our men and women in uniform.

Base on your coments above in reference to MJ, one of two things must be true. Either you witness Michael Jackson sleeping with your son or your X husband was a pedophile chose one....... Once again the man was Aquitted of such a crime.

Gordon Miller   July 7th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

CNN really is disgusting those of us who used to love it because of the wide variety of news - before it turned into the 24-7 repititious Michael Jackson worship (not news) network for more than a week, with just a few seconds of passing mention of all the real world news once in awhile. Like a trainwreck, his life and death deserve a lot of coverage but not to the exclusion of everything else! I guess you got great ratings but you sure abandoned the "cable news channel" format we used to like.

Babyleg   July 7th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

Thanks CNN for broadcasting the MJ Memorial. You are a network of true professionals. And thank GOD! you can multi TASK! have 2 weeks of the MJ reports & still keep other educated folks like myself who two can multi task up to date with the other news nationally and around the world. Once again thank you. Unfortunately we all can't multi task, but we are in America so people like Mr. Miller can choose to switch the channel.

dan briddell   July 8th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Ok it's Wednesday I thought CNN was going to stop already with the Jaskson Story Season One? Let me know when it's safe to watch real news again on CNN. Oh just in case CNN needs another story to run on and on Mama Cass died

Dave in Colorado   July 8th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

CNN seems to have a bias against Sarah Palin. My question for Rick Sanchez and anyone else at CNN is-did you ever do a negative story on Gov. Palin and/or her family? Did you ever do a negative story on Pres. Obama and/or his family?
I am asking these questions because CNN seems to have a very liberal slant to it's stories. Obama, at the start of his campaign, said his family was off limits and the media respected his request. Why wasn't Gov. Palin's family afforded the same respect?

grrace   July 8th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

Rick, What you have to understand about the Iranian Government is they just stole an election...cheated... just like our Republicans did in 2000. Republicans then lied about the Iraq War proving they're liars in addition to cheats. The Iranian Gov. stole these ideas from Republicans, as the Republicans were successful at lying and cheating for 8 years. So, of course, it's CNN's fault (and Obama's fault) ...if you're a corrupt Iranian Cleric or Republican liar. Thank you.

Ms. Addertongue   July 9th, 2009 11:29 am ET

This is just More Iranian propaganda spilled out by its government and clerics in order to take the world’s eye off the fact that they have lost control over its own people, most of those being the young, educated and techno-savvy majority. Unfortunate though that Iran has such a tainted history with taking hostages to which these actions by the Iranian government are equivalent to. I mean this is nothing more than a media spin meant to instill fear and pump out their brand of propaganda. Of course unfortunate are the innocent people that get caught up in the spin such as this reporter named Mazier Bahari from Newsweek. This is nothing more than taking hostages again, which of course the world already knows that back in the 70’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did his part within the taking of the American hostages. As for these coerced confessions of this reporter and those that had been arrested during the election protests and whose confessions had been recorded by the Iranian government and put out there for public consumption they are nothing more than desperate actions taken by a weakening government that is losing control of its youth whom have had enough with the ancient and barbaric ways of a dwindling society of hard-line hate filled men that want to hold supreme power.

These confession I am sure are coerced and perhaps in horrible ways that the average person cannot imagine… torture can cause a man to say many things, even lie if they think the methods of coercion will cease. Nothing from Iran’s government and cleric can be believed at this point in time. The World is Watching you Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the world is watching you!

mimi   July 9th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

This Iranian election is such a sham, and blaming western media is typical Mid-Eastern propaganda. I feel terribly for these people, but they've got to fight the good fight. The US cannot get involved any further because we would be blamed for any coup that might take place. The Iranian people need to do this on their own. It is their country, so ultimately they need to 'own' it, as they may, totally.

Balance   July 9th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Why you just cover Iran but not the huger and more bloody CCP military/police crackdown in P.R.China? Hundreds of people have DIED!

Are You Afraid of the communist party MORE? Be BALANCED!

The Young Gun   July 10th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Whats happening in Iran is the same thing that has been happening since the beginning of America, from Hawaii to Costa Rica. We are convincing our people its the right thing to do so we can overthrow Iran for America's "interests".

Edwin N. Louis   July 10th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Mike Crowe   July 10th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Okay, Michael Jackson dies and we consume ourselves with it for 2 weeks. Meanwhile, our President has the deliberate intention to overhaul, regulate or take over 80-90% of the income you have. This includes intruding on decisions about your car, your transportation, your healthcare, your utility bill, your children's education, the type of job you have. Act like you care about freedom and at least question what the heck does Gov't do right! Is there an exit strategy for health care? Will Obama participate in the National health care plan or remain exempt from it? Duh.

ab lafontain   July 12th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

They deserve what they get . No matter what it is. Backward freeken country still lives in the dark ages.

patnap   July 16th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

As to Iran....we did not have to go there. Bush insisted they had weapons of mass destruction..they did not. We bombed their towns and made the people angry. Yes, Hussan was a bad person but they did not ask us to take him down. It should have been up to them to do this. Now, we have tried to re- wind their lives by rebuilding their towns and trying to bring democracy to them. Sadly, they do not want democracy as we know it. We spent a lot of money and wasted a lot of lives for this mis-adventure and although our soldiers fought bravely and tried to make friends, they still don't want us. We need to get out and let them lead their lives even if it is not the life we think they should lead. I think some of them appreciate us but the majority want their towns back. If they continue to kill each other, so be it. We tried.

Serge Morel   July 16th, 2009 9:08 pm ET

Iran and Co
One thing should be understood!!
Muslim faith goes beyong prayors!
There is muslim way to do things in business and in politics!
In such a way that it confronts the capitalits world!!!
The chruch is omnipresnet in the politics of Iran and other Muslim countries as it still is in our own politics!!I
Iran is a democratic country....not better or worse than ours!!!
But their SUPREME COURT is a RELIGiOUS COURT!!!!
AS it is in our world in a more subtle way!
For example: Can a US president be a confirm GAY and Atheist???
No way!!
So maybe Iran is different...but it is not EVILL for so!!

Raymond James Thibault   July 17th, 2009 5:25 am ET

Unfortunately you are dealing with a country whose elite want to return to their dreams of a Persian Empire. Freedom is an oxymoron to these people. The Radical Clergy like our Right – FAR Right Republicans read into what they want to see in Scripture. The do not read the full context. For example; Revelations is a warning, like Daniel. A Warning. Don't try to understand what it really says and you get what it's warning you about.
Fanatics will always cause problems. Rich fanatics will cause problems.
Sorry to hear you small beacon of Freedom Of The Press screwed up the Iran situation. Just means that reality is finally showing the path to freedom and enlightment. Keep it up Rick. Maybe a new peaceful world order will emerge.

ab lafontain   July 17th, 2009 7:45 am ET

My Man Keep up the Good work. You and CNN Keep the spot light on Ignorance and Stupidity. Maybe the People of Iran will wake up, Throw the Idiots running the country in to the Tigris River and Make a Free Democratic Society. God I'll bet George Bush would be Proud if that happened. Rush and Newt would wonder what happened. Go ahear guys take the lead and Make it Happen. GOOD JOB!!!! Run for office,
Id vote for you.

Diana Kratis   July 20th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Why is it that CNN has a problem with airing anything positive about our Canadian health care system. While watching the Rick Sanchez program, I was reading a comment on the screen from a Canadian talking about our Canadian health care system, who started out with the words, "...while our Candian system is not perfect...THEN, lo and behold, my TV set went BLACK for exactly 7 seconds, just enough to blot out her comment. What is with you American stations. I hear rantings and ravings on MSNBC and FOX news and CNN about how bad Canada's universal health care plan is, and that people are practically DYING on the streets. What rubbish! Why not let your fellow Americans know the truth – we Canadians get universal health care and I am 56 and still alive and well! Also, Americans who live here in Canada agree with me totally.

Bruce Gibson   July 20th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Rick: I am American born but did live in Canada for 45 years. The healthcare system is superior in every way in Canada. No insurance companies to fight with, no preferred providers, no co-pay, and no deductibles. A 58 yr. old couple in British Columbia can get coverage for $99/month for a basic health plan, and add an extended health plan for $107/month more. [optional] The extended plan covers specialists such as physiotherapy, dental, and eye care. $206/month covers everthing for a couple of that age. It is less for younger Canadians. People do not have to work until 65 just so they have health coverage as they age.

We look at Michael like he was a god but he was a little boy hurting probably with bipolar issues all his life. He was a great singer but off stage he did not no how to socialize correctly and all we could do was throw stones at him until he could not take it any more. a bipolar person will overdose on drugs and alcohol just to make there mind stop racing and to help themself to sleep. I truly dont think he ment to kill himself he wanted his mind to stop so he could sleep my 15 year son will go 3 days with out sleep and they hate the anti depressants because it upsets their stomach where it makes them throw up . if you dont have the disease you dont understand he was abused as a child but even as a child he saids he was not happy unless he was on stage and talks about anxiety until he got on stage . defining anti depression or bipolar was never identify in his day so no wonder it was not identified in his day. His mother tried to get him in to Jesus but his dad had his own views that is confusing nothing can be done. but love the family stop throwing stones. i haad a drean a few days after michael died and i dreamed we were standing all over michaels body crying and i heard a voice say how come nobody loved michael when he was on earth . who ever has not committed a sin throw the first stone. and one by one each person left the churchwith a tear in there eye. i woke up and ask God what did that dream mean , He said no body talked about michael when he was living and he was hurting they forgot about him , they were so apt to believe every negative report about him and not here him out he was guilty of being ahurt child and turning to drugs to ease his pain , he could not handle rejection he thought and believed he had no one. he did not molest children though he was guilty of not knowing how to socialize but who does with the hurts he has but he needed to be loved not worshipped but now he is dead people think he his a God. He has a gift of song that wont be lost up here thanks to his mother he does believe in me and is saved he just was confused and hurt so pray for his family and love him as a person and remember no one's perfect. tell Kathlene God bless you rest assure your son is in heaven at peace at last dont let any one tell you different. God bless you in raising children at your age and raise them in the lord . you will do great. You did the best you could do at the time . please have no regrets. love
