A former U.S. congressman says La Raza is "nothing more than a Latino KKK without the hoods and nooses."

La Raza is a Hispanic advocacy organization. That former congressman is Colorado's Tom Tancredo.

Rick Sanchez had Tancredo on to talk about his position that Judge Sonia Sotomayor is a racist.

Watch this clip. Listen to Tancredo's points. Is he making a good argument? Is ANYONE a racist here?

I dont agree with Tom Tancredo, Newt Gingrich or anyone else that Sonia Sotomayor is a racist. That is such a Ludacris statement to even think of, this is a woman who was appointed by President Obama to serve on the high court because she is intelligent, classy, and experienced. So what that she said a Latina woman would make better decisions than a white man, maybe its true, why? because a white man has never been a Latino or Latina. Quit taking her comments out of context and then ask a intelligent question Rick.

It's so amazing how republiscams are now using words like racist and socialists when less than a year ago words like this would have never been uttered by their party. It goes to show how desperate they really are. Judge Sotomayor has a long list of credible accomplishments on her resume. Let's not forget the source of this hate speech! This is the party that believed Governor Palin was the most qualified for The office of Vice President of the United States and what were her accomplishments again?

alfredo Merat   May 29th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

Ok, here I go... If Judge Sotomayor is Racist, well then tell me who in this country or around the world, is not lying about what we were brought up with..by our parents... against . Blacks, Jews, Spanish immigrants, latinos, arabs... may I ask.. what this has to do with her ability to be a TOP JUDGE, FAIR, IMPARTIAL, and yes usually a woman has more integrity and courage than many men.... ... new show on the works I am sure..

Wayne Kahler   May 29th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

I'm not sure that we can say that a Puerto Rican woman is speaking for all Hispanic. I personally understand the concern over abortion. I've always said that I can't get pregnant, but I was raised in the church. But am concerned about the gay issues.

daniel urena   May 29th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I don't think La Raza is a racist organization. I also don't think Sotomayor is a racist. The comments being made by GOP pundits are wrong and in the end whatever they say will come back to bite them in the you know what....I don't see the GOP calling the NAACP a racist group so I think the republican party and its supporters are just maligning Sotomayor and La Raza just to get in the spotlight of the media. We all know that the republican party is feeble and if you think otherwise then you must not have been aware of the 2008 Presidential Election numbers of popular and electoral votes...hahaha... Who has the last laugh now Limbaugh and Rove?...Answer: not you guys!...The republican party needs to leave Sotomayor alone and let her make history when she gets appointed.Notice I said "when" and not "if" she gets appointed. The republican party needs to search within their own party and find a leader to represent them in the 2012 Presidential Election.

Ian Boyle   May 29th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

Just because the Republicans are tired of being labeled as the "racist party" does not mean that they should resort to finger-pointing and cries of racism. I do not believe that the GOP symbolizes racism by any means but I do believe that it is pathetic of Tom Tancredo, Newt Gingrich, and all of the usual whiners on the right to stoop to these kinds of political ploys just because their party is losing. Can they afford to lose any more credibility?

jeannett   May 29th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

It is called displacement. These sour looser GOP member can't stand that people different from his own ethnicity can also be bright and talented ....so he decides to displace his own racists tendencies..

trinirastaman   May 29th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Let congress decide

Meg Ulmes   May 29th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Tancredo and the other Republican talking heads are way over the top and grasping for straws to destroy this Supreme Court candidate. They all need to take a step back–maybe someone should make them listen to themselves. They sound like fools.

Madiera   May 29th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

It is not fair how when a minorty receives a position, that the minority has to hear a bunch of uncalled for comments. Just like the young black man that moved into a neiborhood that took him to court because he called the police after his home was broken into. This happened in Chicago Heights, IL. why do minorities have to be treated so rude. We are all equal.

Sue   May 29th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

Let the close minded reveal themselves. Supreme Ct. dsn't have much affect on our daily lives. Let Soto be vetted like anyone else and get confirmed. U don't serve on fed court without flwing rule of law. Soto is not a win for latinos but for all. Soto helps Supreme Ct. "Look" more like our country – great hodgepodge. Let's face it,..we R NOt all old white men.

Bill Davis   May 29th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

Let's not play the 'race card' regarding the NYPD shooting, until all the facts of the investigation are in.

MMM   May 29th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

Tancredo is out of his mind. The KKK invokes violence, La Raza is a legal organization for latino law students that advocates for latino issues and brings those issues to an anglo dominated forum. La Raza does not invoke violence or seek to exterminate people merely because of their skin color.

Ed Garren   May 29th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

White leaders of the Republican party are finally showing their true colors and deeply embedded racism and classism. They have no problem pandering to Latinos and working class whites with talk of "independence" and other divisive rhetoric.

The reality is, they are mega wealthy people who use people to increase their own wealth, and they have little interest in anything else. The reality is, they don't like anyone who's not in "The Country Club Set", and the thought of anyone who is not one of their own having access to power is very frightening.

As usual, they get Rush Limbaugh and other "mouthpieces" to say what is in the darkest places of their hearts, and finally, are showing themselves to be the petty, small minded selfish, mean spirited people that (sadly) too many of them are.

The party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Goldwater (all of whom I respected) is dead, replaced by greed, insolence, massive corruption and complete disregard for law or humanity.

They got us into this economic mess, and now they are terrified they might have to be held accountable for it.

Chris   May 29th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

I tried to attend a Raza law seminar, but was denied because I'm not hispanic. What isn't racist about a group that is based on race?

Tadashi Davis   May 29th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

I could spend paragraphs talking about this hypocracy and ignorance, so in an attempt to not over complicate things and to bring this to a level in which Tancredo can understand I say this: Takes one to know one...

eric   May 29th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Dear Rick,

Although there is difference in a group of people that try to help thier cause like the La Raza and group like the KKK who's sole purpose is to contain and put down other races. As a latino myself I am against groups like La Raza for the very reason i do not like on the focus on race. If a white person tries to form a sole white support group they are immediately called a racist group..If i was white I'd be calling this the double standard of our life time..

eric

Sean   May 29th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

The test of whether or not La Raza is racist should be, were it an organization for Americans of European ancestry, all else equal, would it be racist?
Additionally, whatever the answer to this question, non-Republicans need to understand the following: Republicans do not vote Republican to win, we vote Republican because we believe the party’s ideas are the best method to solve America’s problems. The answer to Mr. Sanchez’s question, “Who will tell Tancredo and Limbaugh to stop” [alienating Hispanics]? is no one. Republican voters want the party to tell the truth, even if it is unpopular. On immigration, as on other issues, the Republican base believes the party platform will help the United States more than alternatives. We do not want it to change, even if it means we never win a single election. I, for one, would quit the party if the RNC, for example, changed the party platform or rhetoric solely to pander to Hispanic voters. That is what the Democratic party does.

DonJMac   May 29th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Black Panthers (call racist),Black Muslems(called racist) KKK ( racist
La Raza, means (The Race) and you say they are not racist because they are Latinos,There name speaks for itself, LA RAZA (The RACE.

Patricia   May 29th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Rick this is too crazy what next comparing NAACP to NeoZatzies

Maxine   May 29th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

How many times has this situation happened in reverse? Are there any old cases of mistaken white officers for perks....maybe but I don't thinks so

Sal   May 29th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Rick every time i watch your show...I'm proud of you! You are not God, but your voice is the true!

Valerie   May 29th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

There is no organization that compares with the KKK, they are the only people in American history that have been free to operate by, torturing terrorizing and killing humans and get away with it.

La Raza can't be compared nor equated wtih the KKK, as an African American I am offended by this as well.

Ken Moore   May 29th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

"La Raza" translates to "the race". What kind of race do they mean?

Dave   May 29th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

KKK and NAACP and any other skin organizations are skin organizations. I think that they all should be against the law.

carl   May 29th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

rick, every time tancredo opnes his mouth, global warming goes up another degree!!! this man is as racist as they come. in the 21st century, racist have traded in the hoods for suits and office buildings! as an african-american i'm very troubled by his statement. thank god he's out of public office

jason   May 29th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

there's two ways to look at this Rick,he either thinks la raza is a terrorist organization like the kkk,or that the kkk is a civil rights organization.
Both are eroneous and aggredious.

j gornan   May 29th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

How can Janet Murguia say her organization is not racist when the name is "THE RACE"..La Raza.

..as for civil right what a bunch of baloney when most of her time is supporting criminal illegal aliens.

LARAZA IS A RACIST ORGANIZATION!

PoliticallyAware   May 29th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

This is what happens when individuals dont do their research and dont have the experience to tell them otherwise. Therefore, they make assumptions, not realizing that their opinions are not a representation of the people they are actually trying to insult. Judge Sonia was right when she said she would be a better judge based on her personal experience versus a person like Tancredo. I wish people would get the facts before they past judgment on others.

Ariel Ittai-NewMexico   May 29th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

"La Raza" has its origins in early 20th century Latin American literature and translates into English most closely as "the people," or, according to some scholars, "the Latino people of the New World." The term was coined by Mexican scholar José Vasconcelos to reflect the fact that the people of Latin America are a mixture of many of the world's races, cultures, and religions. (NOWHERE NEAR the definiton of Nazi or KKK).

David   May 29th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Hi Rick,
I'm from los angeles and was under the impression that La Raza was a movement for mexicans to take back the part of the southwest that was theirs prior to the war. When I researched it back then, about 5 years ago, it seemed there was a 50% chance it was true.

David

joe st pierre   May 29th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

rick tancredo was out of line but it brings up the point that there are no caucasion rights groups.you cant have a group supporting the rights of caucasions without being associated with the KKK

Carolyn Sinclair   May 29th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

The former Colorado Rep. Tom T. has a problem, If anything, he sounds racists. It worries me that there are too many Tom's out there. I do have a problem with any immigrant that comes to this country and does not learn the English language, like so many immigrants from years ago did. I think more Americans would be more likely to welcome them with open arms if they did.

Martin in Shoreline, WA   May 29th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

La Raza is a racist organization. So is the NAACP. I know. I was blatantly discriminated against at a newspaper in Seattle. I asked both of these organizations for help. They would not help me. I'm a white male.

Dave   May 29th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

La Raza, is a group just like the NAACP that look out for the rights of all people. This is from a Black American. Tancredo is like the same people who said the same things about NAACP, Urban league, and Labor Union.

Sir   May 29th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

I'm a little confused. A clear definition of "racism" would be predicating social values and preferences on a basis of a single, arbitrary attribute: race.

Here we have an organization, among many others, whose existence is based solely off predicating social matters on a racial basis.

How is that not racist again? Isn't this kind of rationalism a definite sign of the times?

Nellie   May 29th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

I’m baffled as to how someone can have the audacity to make such a bold accusation about a “civil rights” organization, without giving a single example. When a sentence contains “like the KKK” then you expect…some comment….any comment…after that highlights that the commenter is not insane! Let's just hope that he regrets his comments when all is said and done!

Chris   May 29th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

One of the GOP's biggest strategies over the past 10 years has been to promote lies and half-truths to scare people into voting for them. Bush used terrorism and "family values" to scare people into voting for him. This is just another attempt to completely sensationalize a subject to try and scare people into supporting the GOP and taking a stance against the Democratic party.

Joaquin Galaza   May 29th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

It seems that the Republican Party will say anything at this point. To compare La Raza to the KKK is ludicrous. It also shows a lack of intelligence by Tancredo. I really wonder how some of these people get elected.

Ray   May 29th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Rick, I definitely don't agree with that tancredo dude. LaRaza is not kkk type organization. However, I do believe hispanics brought this on themselves. Why do I say this? Because, Hispanics got suckered in by racists republicans into thinking they would be offered some level of acceptance if they voted for george bush twice. If Hispanics in Texas, Florida, and Arizona hadn't voted overwelmingly for bush twice, we wouldn't have had to deal this mess created bush and Cheney created for the US. Thank god Hispanics finally woke up and voted Obama in. Hopefully this is a lesson learned for Hispanics that you are only as good as your last vote to republicans. Please don't make that mistake again by voting republican in the future.

Joshua   May 29th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

the GOP is burying itself, but by no means will Americans buy hook line and sinker a liberal agenda that obviously needs the white man as a whipping boy to conceal it's fascist policies.......Maybe it's time for a reverse migration of the white man back to Europe; this country is balkanizing itself and I no longer want to raise my children here. In a hundred years it will still be our fault for everything wrong in the world. Time to just leave these people to themselves; does anyone NOT believe race won't be an issue then?.....

Ralph Spencer   May 29th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

All you have to do is look to the prisons to find the racist parts of LaRazza. Particularly in California. La Razza colors are flown in Prison just like Crips, Bloods and Arian Brothers. Tancredo is an idiot but what he said has some truth to it. THE RACE says it all.

Betty   May 29th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Re: La Raza
What else could Tancredo say? Any organization that tries to defend against the practices of white supremacy MUST be racist. That the organization dares to advocate on behalf of people of colour is unforgivable. Of course, the fact that it is for HISPANIC people – many of whom are white – does not seem to have dawned on him. He has proven Judge Sotomayor's point about lived experience influencing how one sees the world. Maybe Tancredo should volunteer for La Raza and learn what makes the Latinas so wise.

Brook   May 29th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Let's get it straight. Hispanics are now the majority. The majority rules but beware, this majority had historically been very strong against speech if it is critical of their culture. Tancredo is very brave to speak the truth in this environment of Americans apologizing for American culture and values to aliens who find it "offensive".
LaRaza – someone claiming that an organization called the race is racist – of course this is an outrageous claim.

Mike Johnson   May 29th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

It is Tancredo who is the racist. I have lived in Santa Barbara, CA for 32 years and we have a large Hispanic community. We have had a La Raza organization here since before I moved to Santa Barbara in 1977. La Raza provides a number of community programs helping all in need. They are mostly helpful to Latinos but never turn away anyone in need. They are neither racist nor are they advocates of violence. La Raza does not advocate the hanging of people from trees like the KKK.

Dennis   May 29th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Colorado Rep. Tom T. is wrong since La Raza does not practice murder or hangings as the KKK did and than pose for pictures that we can still see today. Tke comments made are very simply silly. The congressman is just really wrong to the point of being looked at as he himself has no idea of what is going on in his own country.
Dennis

circy in new mexico   May 29th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Tancredo is a fool! I am not Hispanic, but i grew up in West Texas in the 1950s and the people that were racist were white Anglo males. And it was against Blacks and Hispanics (and those who were poor). This information is well documented, so for Tancredo to come out with this nonsense tells me tnat its still that way in many areas (especially with Republicans) and that it's totally stupid to try to turn it the other way. The hate being displayed by him and some others is truly astonishing. And they're not even bright enough to disguise it.

B   May 29th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

I wanted to say something about the story of the cop murdered by another cop. When the detective from Dc was talking about what happened. I heard him describe the event as "they got into a scuffle (the #1 cop and the car thief) and his sweat shirt came off" ...Now, didn't he say that the #1 cop had a Police Department shirt on? So is he telling us that the murdered cop was actually shot by another cop from behind? If it wasn't so, wouldn’t he have seen the PD shirt?
And who caught the car thief? The #2 cops’ partner...sounds like a bad cop movie. Justice shall be dispatch

Anyways....obviously someone from outside the PD should investigate it.

Roel   May 29th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

What is going on with the GOP?

A. Haget   May 29th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

I love the way Tancredo's foot fits so nicely in his mouth. Not too long ago, he called Miami a third world country. Maybe he is the racist. I will agree, the name "La Raza" is a bad choice for a group name. Being hispanic, I associate the words "La Raza" with gangster pride.

Phoenician   May 29th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Rick,
It would be great if someone in your position would explain to the public why no one can attain a work visa or green card to work and live in the US

Lothar R. Kunert   May 29th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Hi Rick: I am new at this. I wish to comment on the NYPD incident. Did the shooter yell "stop or I'll shoot" or fire a shot in the air? With all the target practice police go thru, can"t they shoot to incapacitate rather than shoot to kill or at random?

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Lothar R. Kunert

V. C. DeCoudreaux   May 29th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Rick:

The Colorado Congressman's comment comes from the same mindset that existed prior to the Civil Rights Laws of the late nineteen sixties. At that time, the NAACP was on the government's list of Subversive Organizations! As an African American, I grew up in Denver, and was confronted with having to deny my membership to the NAACP in order to get a job with a major corporation (United Airlines).

Musa T. Camara   May 29th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Rick,

I’m a retired Los Angeles police officer who spent the last 10 years of my career representing police officers who were charged with misconduct. This misconduct ranged from minor misconduct such as using departmental computers for personal use up to major misconduct such as rape and homicide. I also spent 4 years as a peace officer in NYC.

What you should have asked your guest was statistically speaking how many off-duty white cops have been shot by white cops vs. how many off-duty African-American cops have been shot by white cops.
I can tell you from personal experience that at one point there were so many such shootings that I was more afraid of being shot by a fellow officer than I ever was by a suspect.

Based on my experience I am convinced that he would not have shot a white cop in the same set of circumstances. I can also state I can’t remember one case where a white cop who shot a black cop ever came back out of policy. Now ask yourself how can a shooting of a black cop not committing a crime ever come back in policy?

Valinda, CA

Mike   May 29th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Rick, you are too easy on the Republicans.

reuben j vargas   May 29th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

The KKK is racist, LaRaza is racist, The Black Panther Party is racist. And so long as we keep associating ourselves with a particular group instead of Americans (the tie that binds) we`ll always have this problem.

Wilbert Hamilton   May 29th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Where are these people coming from. Are they from another country.Just think a pass lawmaker (Tom Tancredo) making a statement about an organization he knows nothing about. All this venom being spread by the right, WHY?

eric   May 29th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Keep talking GOP by the next ecection you'll only have the KKK vote. I
think what the GOP is tring to say is; if there can be sole hispanic groups and not be called racists why can't there be sole white groups and not be callled racists..you do not do this by calling a group like the La Raza the KKK....The more the GOP talks the more they show what a catastrophe the GOP is in..

eric

Tameka   May 29th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Tom Tancredo should have CHECKED with a black person to say an outrageous statement like that. He could have just whispered that to a regular black person off the street and get our approval first.

Obviously he did not do his homework and dont know why he is still on someone's payroll.

Republicans are starting to sound like WHINING BABYS annd its started to get annoying. I honestly think they are losing their minds.

Carol Keeler   May 29th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

The reason informed, un-hyphenated Americans have a problem with the National Council of La Raza is that – no matter what else they say – they refuse to recognize a distinction between legal and ILLEGAL immigration. They call anyone who objects to ILLEGAL immigration a racist, including Lou Dobbs, who is married to a Mexican American. Americans are tired of being called racists for objecting to ILLEGAL immigration. We will not hand over the sovereignty of our nation just to avoid being call a name. Without borders, we would no longer be a country.

Colorado Pete   May 29th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

The WWE, General Motors, Survivor, and the GOP. They all began strong, but are now more entertaning to watch, than to be taken serious. Lets give the GOP a hand for their performance.

Arthur Dykies   May 29th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Rick, I'm an Anglo Saxon, Protestant male, 82. I've lived in Texas all my life except WW II. I nearly fell out of my wheelchair when you played what that idiot said about La Raza. Believe me I remember the bad old days before La Raza. If you will pardon this, some of my best friends belong to that organization. It ain't anything like KKK.
Keep going.

carl   May 29th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

why is everyone shocked at what the so-called "stars" of the gop are saying? this has long been a party of elitist, card-carrying racists, since the party was formed. the election of a african american to the highest office in the land has put them into a tailspin from which there is no recovery. michael steel, colin powell, we have room for you on the democratic express. by the way, G.O.P. stands for get over predjudice!

Sally   May 29th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Rick, thanks for looking out for those who have no voice.

Jill   May 29th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Rick, I am not Latino, however I am disgusted by the bigot comment Tom Tancredo made.

The KKK was a group of White men/women whom had social powers ( public office ex) and used that power to get away with torture murder and in-equality.

The republican party just keeps showing there true colors.
When they have nothing solid to attack they pull the revers discrimination card.
I believe they forget..White Males still hold the majority of power and wealth in this country so what's unfair ????
Wealth built on the backs of the very people they call racist or Un-fair. Maybe they should look up the definition of Racist.

That being said, it becomes more clear day by day that there is a major issue in this country concerning race and in equality.
It shouldn't be this hard to have people of color that are the most qualified take office.
Message to the Republican Part.... You've lost site of the make up of this country.

Maritoni Guajardo   May 29th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

The racist are Rush, Newt, and Trancedo and others who have chosen to make a mountain out of a molehill. They are so desparate to keep their upper class white male racists political agenda that they have resorted to taking an eight your old speech and rewriting it to find fault in Judge Sotomayor. The quote is not only taken out of context but what they have done is very close to liable. Liable and slander because they took words and left words out to get their racist message out. When you read the quote in its entirety there is no racism. I believe the real quote applies to all these white men who have never lived the life of the ordinary everyday american regardless of ethnicity and these Racists bigots are crucifying her because she is Hispanic and they are so afraid of us being in power. GET USED TO IT REPUBLICANS. We are the biggest minority and we will not be silent anymore. Years of oppression and abuse at the hand of the people you represent are over. Not by violence but by intellectual power will we take our rightful place in the political world of our great country. For many of us our families have been in the United States before there was a United States. We didn't come to the United States it came to us. So get over yourselfs.

Gerry Cates   May 29th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

I am a very conservative, right wing, right to work, pro-life, conservative Republican who thinks Tancrado is the one with KKK views. He is a racial bigot! There are a lot of us pro-immigrant, pro-Hispanic Republicans out here that do not get much coverage. I run a small ranch related business in West Texas. There are many Republicans like me who believe that we should have a generous, compassionate, common sense , comprehensive immigration plan. Our economy needs hard working people. The worker pyramid is inverted. We need workers. I say sign up the millions of illegal aliens (ok, they broke the law, so what, it is on par of a speeding ticket). We say sign them up! And let them work without fear. It is time to give these good hard working people a chance in the open. I do not support Sotomajor for the Supreme Court on her philosophy, but I would gladly support Leslie Sanchez for the court!

Brandon   May 29th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Robert Gibbs is as racialy nieve as a fool can be. Those liberal jackasses are throwing their american herritage down the toilet. And puting non americans on the american pedestals, who also would love to take over the american society for their own race. La Raza is absolutely a racist organization against the white's. America wake up. They are no better than those white racists who were prevelent in the 60,s in the south against blacks and mexicans and every other minority.

Elvia Pino   May 29th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

I believe it is time for the Latino's to enter the Polical Arena.. We latinos are a upcoming powerful force and we must stand up to these types of discriminations. We have yet had the opportunity to exercise our political power. I urge all Latinos to come together in support of Sotomayor.

Katherine   May 29th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Works for me! Just proves how ignorant the GOP is. Actions like this will ensure Obama stays in office for eight years! YES!

Martin - MN   May 29th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Go Tom... Go Rush... Keep digging that hole. I am happy to see the true colors of the GOP. As their shiny exterior crumbles their heart is exposed for what it is.

In reference to the police shooting in N.Y.C. If had shot him once or twice maybe but, he shoot the man six times and that's someone who is in rage.

In reference jugde sotomayor KKK is what we need to discuss. The GOP act like they want to stop terrorism Ok, let's start at home with the KKK they are no different from the taliban.

Ed   May 29th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Looking for a voice of reason in the GOP? How about P. J. O'Rourke? What does he have to say about this?

Jody   May 29th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

The Republican party is no longer the party of no, it has become the party of hate. The deafening silence of any voice of reason within the party seems to support this idea. Individuals have the right to free speech, but all I have heard recently is hate, hate hate, calls for sedition and worse. Some commentators frighten me that they are appealing to the fringe popualtion and will give someone the idea to harm our President, isn't that illegal? Won't anyone within the party try to stop this insanity? In our history haven't we stopped fringe groups and militias when they begin to exhibit dangerous behaviors that could threaten society. Isn't this what is happening with the Republican party now?

Betty   May 29th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Actually, I like the neanderthals spouting all this stuff that they are. They are helping the Republicans sink further into oblivion. Please do not stop them. They might wise up and begin to attract more people instead of repelling them as they are doing now.

Keep it up Republicans! We applaud your demise and wish you continued regress.

Pete   May 29th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Rick,

I live in Southern California. I think most people who were raised here understand at an early age how Racist La Raza really is. I had a Racist Mexican teacher in my high school years ago who bragged to his classes of La Raza and how they planned on taking over California and then the U.S. by breeding. So far it looks like it's working. As a White Man in Los Angeles I am the Minority and have been for many years. Where are my special privileges?
Also I could never understand why all these people don't just over throw thier own country so they have a better life and equal rights. Why come on to Our land?

Pete

oladipo   May 29th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Seriously, the only organization around the world today comparable to KKK is the Al-Qaeda. I think it's time for people like Collin Powell to come out forcefully to save the GOP. Occasional Sunday morning TV interviews won't do.
Powell and Co needed to be the good Mullahs that provide the counter-arguments to the cray heads in the party.

Yolanda Esquivel   May 29th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Rick, it is not surprising that Tom Tancredo and the Republican Party see Ms. Sotomayor as a racist, that is the way they see all Latinos. They don't see us as capable of anything other than being their servants. And Rick ,you need to get educated in what M.E.CH.A. really means. We as Latinos have also suffered tremenous discrimination in this country.

pewkster   May 29th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

La Raza is not concerned with promoting the Republican party. La Raza is not concerned with the United States of America. La Raza is concerned with the Hispanic States of America. La Raza advocates illegal immigration (from Mexico), legalization of illegal immigrants (from Mexico) and the empowerment of Hispanics in America over all others. These are not Republican goals so why should the Republican Party waste time and resources courting a group that is fundamentally opposed to their goals?

Leo Rael   May 29th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Rick if you see any of these men be sure and thank them for me because they have done more to unite the hispanic population then anybody else. I commend Leslie for defending republicans and shes kidding herself about how hispanics are going to respond to all this.

patrick piserchia   May 29th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

LaRaza is the Personification of Evil !!!!

Here in Alabama we know racists – note Sen Sessions and some of his comments – and the KKK. Not all repubs are members of the KKK, but ALL members of the KKK are republicans. Does that not tell you something?

Michael   May 29th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Rick,

All I can say is I love this country, watching you three debate and pick at that issue was priceless...thanks.

Tony   May 29th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Comparing La Raza with the KKK is like comparing the NAACP with the Nazi party! Tancredo does not understand the dynamics of minority, historically oppressed groups and their need to organize to fight for their rights.

Ariel Ittai-NewMexico   May 29th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Do Your Research: “La Raza” has its origins in early 20th century Latin American literature and translates into English most closely as “the people,” or, according to some scholars, “the Latino people of the New World.” The term was coined by Mexican scholar José Vasconcelos to reflect the fact that the people of Latin America are a mixture of many of the world’s races, cultures, and religions. (NOWHERE NEAR the definiton of Nazi or KKK). If the Republicans despise the KKK, why do they still exist in the United States of America, while we're at WAR with other countries' version of KKK.

Nick S.   May 29th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Tom Delay needs to delay the words coming out of his mouth before it signs a check that the Republican partys butt can't cash.
He is not helping the GOP.

Victor   May 29th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Rick, can you please ask Leslie to let us know if she is qualified to do her job, or if she is there because she is Hispanic?

MS Dale Fairbanks   May 29th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

I am disgusted with the hate spewing forth fron Taecodo and Limbaugh. It is a free conmtry and their righ but it frightens me as unfortunatly some people a little off base may be inspired to take dangerous steps. I love the hispanic people and culture By the way I am an elderly anglo.

Les   May 29th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

No one in the GOP will denounce the racist comments because most of them are coming from the leader of the party - Rush Limbaugh.

Nephesh_Amarcusa   May 29th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

The semblance of La Raza to the k.k.k is of course nonsense, history shows that. I am pretty sure the members of the klan did not appreciate the comparison either, I wont be surprised if we start hearing from them. Seems like the gop wants every diversity to take part take in their Civil Division strategy. Be Aware do not become the catalyst the gop needs for their re-branding, their purification.

Ken - a recovering Republican   May 29th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Rick,

Does the GOP REALLY expect that making blatant racist comments are going to help their party at all? I am totally stunned that anyone Republicans are trading in their shovels for bulldozers, because that is exactly what they are doing. Digging themselves into a hole that they will find extremely hard to get out of. The GOP logic is not even coherent anymore, its all hysterical emotions.

Jesse   May 29th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Rick, you just had Tom DeLay on your show. Why, I don't know. But as a 62 year old Mexican-American Vietnam veteran I say does he wonder why he is no longer in Washington?

shaun   May 29th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

This is just usual politics....I believe the Democrats as always are playing the race card...... and the Repubs as always don't know how to play the hand.......

Brian Halbisen...Toledo Ohio   May 29th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Saying that the NCLR is a racist organization is simply a fallacy! Would you compare the historical leaders of the Settlement House Movement of the 19th century with KKK leaders? I highly doubt it! And even if hispanics are guilty of racism, it is only in response to having been continuously raped by society since Hernan Cortes hit the shores in the 1500's.

yolanda georges   May 29th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Hey Rick,
As a hispanic born in the USA, I'm an American first. As for La Raza, now come on,as I have been saying for years, the beauty of this country,we can agree to disagree. No need for La Raza, I agree with Tom Delay.

S.A. Texas

Ken from SoCal   May 29th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Rick,

Has anyone beside me noticed that the people in the GOP crying "Racist" the most, have had a history of either corruption, fraud, lying, and/or being racist themselves?

Dez   May 29th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

She was clearly choosen because of her race.. She made it clear in her own comment... Obama made a c hoice to boost his votes with latinos... His choice was clearly not for the better of Ameica

oladipo   May 29th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

KKK bombs buildings, kills innocents and terrorizes communities. Tell me any other organization that does that in America. That's the point. Organizations or companies are formed for a reason or promote a purpose, be it race, healthcare, guns and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
There is a problem when your organization violently threatens others existence. KKK will not have it's reputation if it just promotes white interests only, peacefully. Like the GOP!

Eduardo Gonzalez-Ortega   May 29th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

In regards of Mr. Tancrdo's comments, Is there any civil rights organization that is conservative or for that matter Republican?

Brook   May 29th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

The propagandists and media who want to stir things up are making this a party vs. Hispanic culture issue. It is very interesting how people really are easy to manipulate, even when there is a wealth of information for research available. It seems that those who are only educated about their own "world" (thinking the rest of the world has the same mindset), opine in predictable manner. The rest have a political mindset and opine in favor of their culture and people no matter what.

JB   May 29th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

La Raza is amde up of a bunch of organizations. Several of them are for reaquiring SW states. So, she didn't lie when she said La Raza is not for that, however, there are aligned groups within La Raza, that are.

Donald A Lison   May 29th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

I am an old white guy. I cannot see what Judge Sotomayor's race or gender have to do with her appointment. Unless you are a racist or a sexist, that is. At this point we don't know enough about her qualifications as a judge. That should be the focus, the only focus. Let's find out if she is qualified as a judge. If so, let her take her place on the court. It is 2009. Shouldn't all this race and gender stuff be history not news?

pewkster   May 29th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Why is Nancy Pelosi not on your "Open and Standing" list?

Mark N   May 29th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Openly hateful. Espousing bigotry, hypocrisy. Twisting spritual believers into an army of unchristian malevolence. Duplicitous perpetrators of mistruths and contortion of facts. Too bitter to drop the ax of the Clinton years and return to the table. Magnet to the uninformed; the tired, lazy, uncurious mind. There is no middle ground in the GOP anymore. You are far Right or you are wrong. Are these GOP's values? Forget Spector, Lincoln would have become a democrat.

Bob Masullo   May 29th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Tom Tancredo is an embarrassment to me and, I believe, most of the 16 million other Italian Americans. He has forgotten his own roots and turned on a people, the Hispanic Americans, with a very similar life experience to his own. I think his behavior is just another sad example of self-hatred projection. This is not the first time for Tancredo.

Les   May 29th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

No one in the GOP will denounce the racist comments because most of them are being made by the only leader the party has - Rush Limbaugh. BTW, my wife thinks he's a bozo becasue he thinks Sotomayor isn't qualified even though she's smarter than George W. Bush and Dick Cheney put together. Ever since Obama won the election the Republicans have been reduced to a pack of starving dogs who are only interested in devouring whatever red meat is tossed their way by people like Limbaugh, Cheney, etc.

Cora Anderson   May 29th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Hey Rick, The Republicans are just like old magicians who have run out of tricks, and just pull anything out of the hat and hoping for the best.

David   May 29th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

I hate to fall back on stereotypes, but you'd really have to be a white republican to compare an activist Hispanic rights advocacy group to the KKK which was one of the most hate filled, evil organizations that has ever existed anywhere let alone in the US.
The real underlying problem Rick, is that the GOP has hijacked the term "conservative" . Because it has right wing views it tries to claim that it represents that solid , hard working, values and integrity driven mindset that respects others and simply wants to preserve the good things that define America and keep the Govt from intruding into our daily lives. This is not what the GOP is, and they do not represent that lifestyle. They represent preservation of priviledge by the privileged. The only thing they want to conserve is the idea of an obscenely fat bank account created at the expense of others, and they are deeply, intesely and radically racist and hate-filled. Tancredo and Limbaugh are the absolute archetypes of that movement. I am disgusted at Gingrich who I thought had more decency than that, but obviously not.

bjv   May 29th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

We spent 100-plus days at the Alamo trying to keep riff-raff like LA Raza out of this great country- and this is what happens?!

Genaro zavala   May 29th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Rick ,I am a 47 yr old Hispanic male & a Republican. I'm so ashamed of the comments made by not 1 but 2 "FORMER" Republicans who think they speak for all Republicans.I am desperately thinking of going Democrat if this continues. The Republican party really needs the hispanic voters so they really need to do some serious "DAMAGE CONTROL" and stand up and be counted. If not then the damage has already been done to the party thanks to Mr.Tancredo and Mr.Delay.

deece   May 29th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

It's regarded as racist if a group of whites ban together and form an organization to advance white's rights. Why is it acceptable for La Raza?

Jamie   May 29th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

One more comment to help of all you on this blog that seem to be struggling with who you are angry with. His name is Tom Tancredo. He is a man of principles. He has spoke out against the Bush administration and Karl Rove almost Bush's entire presidency. He is not Tom Delay.

Jan   May 29th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

I had the same look on my face that Rick Sanchez had on his face, listening to Rep. Tom Tancredo yesterday.

The interview with Tom Delay today was just as stomach-turning.

The irony is that Tom Delay thinks he's an expert on Hispanics because (wait for it...wait for it...)
... he's lived "AROUND" them all his life.

It would make me ROTFLMFAO, if it wasn't so incredibly sickening.

Thanks, Rick. Great job.
The lady who represented the Democrats in your political debate was terrific.
The other one... the Republican - Gosh, I hardly know what to say, so I'll just leave it there. I feel sorry for her.

Are there any more greedy old Republican white guys who want to go on your show and comment on this brilliant federal judge?
How low can they go?
It's like watching a car wreck.

Anyway, Mr. Sanchez (and CNN), thanks again for bringing us this valuable information.

AndyMac   May 29th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

I see where some people compare the NAACP with the KKK and there's no comparison. If you go back and look at the pictures of Dr. King when he was marching it was people of ALL etchnic backgrounds. While at the same time the KKK was bombing churches killing children and killing innocent men and women. Sounds like the taliban to me.

Maria-Miami   May 29th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

Rick, come back to Miami and hang out with Central & South Americans and you will be reminded how racists the majority of Latins are against Americans, the USA and what pleasure most of them get in bad mouthing, trashing Americans and our country. Yes, most Latins think that Sotomayor is racist. You keep forgetting that you are Cuban and your feelings towards the USA are different from those from Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica,Mexicans,etc...Rick, you lived in Miami and you know it very well that her comment is common among Latins. The problem is that the latins you interview won't admit to it and the Americans you interview don't know latin americans at all, they are walking in unknown territory, they really should not give an opinion on this issue, their opinion is unrealistic. By the way, numerous latins want Sotomayor appointed not because she is Puerto Rican or woman but because they hope she will change our country's laws to those of Latin American countries.

Jose Reyes   May 29th, 2009 4:16 pm ET

As a Mexican American and registered Republican, I'm truly embarrassed by these allegations. I dont agree with some of Ms. Sotomayors philosophies, yet I know that there is not enough evidence to stop her from receiving this honor. The Republican party is currently putting forth an effort to unite the Republicans, mark these words, I WILL NOW CHANGE MY PARTY AFFILIATION to independent. Honestly I have been pondering this for a while now, but after these kind of attacks by Tancredo, and Senetor Grahams attacks on Ron Paul supporters(fellow republicans), I've had enough.

sseed13   May 29th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

It seems obvious that The Republican old white boys network is bigoted toward nonwhites and women, and try to force their religious views onto everyone else. They are the party of the super rich, and seem to go out of their way to keep people suppressed and ignorant!

Robert - Portland Oregon   May 29th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Rick,

Could you please post Judge Sonia Sotomayer's entire transcript for everyone to read, so they know the context of her statement. Rather than have idiots who simply want to bad mouth her for the sake of bad mouthing her on your show, or quote bigots such as Rush (Fat Mouth) Limbaugh, please focus on the context of her statement more (like you are doing) and talk about her record as a judge and her stance on the Constitution? Those should be the subjects of debate, don't you think?

Keep up the good work, you are awesome!

Robert

ER   May 29th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Unfortunately, some people have racist and Bigot confused. They are not interchangable terms in my mind. I would challenge that all of us are racist. We all have different life experiences and perceptions based on our racial background. We are judged by others and we judge others based on our perceptions of a persons race. A good human gets past those perceptions and positively embrasses those differences. I find that normal. However the Bigot acts negatively towards others based on racial differences. Sotomayor is correct in her statement she can and will make great decisions because of her heritage. She has seen more and has experienced more than her white counterparts on the bench. That's not racist. It is a fact. She has navigated through many economic and social circles. Gingrich and Limbaugh et. al can't embrass the beauty of multicultural/racial differences. They never had to. They embrass the negative aspects of race because they haven't had any experience in personally living in a diverse world outside of work. Examining life experiences based on your race and gender is common. It is your life experience. Embrassing those experiences is a wonderful thing. To bad many of those idiots that believe Rush and Newt can't figure it out for fear of losing power.

PAUL GringoLatino   May 29th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

what happened to the comment I left?

Randy Owens   May 29th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Racist? I don't think she is racist nor is LA RAZA, or even the NAACP. They are discriminatory organizations however. Both are for furthering their particular racial members over all other races, the LA RAZA Hispanic and the NAACP blacks. Can you imagine what would happen if a group started an organization called the NAAWP (National Association for the Advancement of White People)? the reverend Al Sharpton would lead the charge against this "racist" organization. What a world we now live in! Can't we all just get along?

RR Leal, PhD   May 29th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

As a member of an Hispanic family that dates back to the founding of Laredo, Texas in 1755, it is patently offensive to hear the "racist" term being used by Gingrich and Tancredo. They are helping with the further destruction of the Republican Party in America. I also heard your conversation with Tom DeLay who claims to know Hispanics – I don't think so! DeLay lived in Laredo for a short while which doesn't make him an expert on Hispanics. They use the word "racist" freely; they should become familiar with the history of Texas and maybe then they might understand who the real "racists" have been in American history. These are desperate men using desperate measures to assume the power that they have lost. They are losing Hispanic votes like GM has lost its value in our society – it's a real shame. The Russian author, Solzhenitsyn, warned that the decline of America would come from within its borders not from outside its borders. We have plenty of enemies in the world with fighting with each other. The time for change is now!

Jorge Garcia   May 29th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

President Obama went from being a very smart president to being a genius. He could of chosen any number of supreme court canidates, but he chose the one that was going to get the republican party to show their true colors. the outragous respose to the nomination by the republican party is exactly what president knew he was going to get. The republican party is to stupid to realize this, and they are garranteing democratic dominance for the next two dacades. The president is also going to get a very good supreme court Justice.

Brook   May 29th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

La Raza is not advocating a certain race. It is advocating people of a certain culture. Are all Hispanics one race?

What is wrong with American culture? Why can't we advocate and celebrate that culture which made a more humane society possible.

Brandon   May 29th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

As for judge soto, how would these outraged people who are commenting on behalf of the latino's react if a white potential supreme court nominee said I have a better understanding of the law because i'm white. Huh?

carlos zuniga   May 29th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

Rick:
I am 63 year old who lives in El Paso Tex. I just want you to know Lulac nor La Raza nor any other group speak for me, represent me or do I identify with any of them. This time around I happened to be born in El Paso, in my next life maybe it will be Little Rock. Why are you so taken aback when someone tells you there are thousands if not millions of people like me who happen to be Latino (i do not call myself that), La Raza in my opinion have been racist many times as has Lulac.

When you (media) report on latino issues just remember there are millions of us who happen to have been born that and who don't relate to anything those groups define, so please quit lumping us all together like you do all the time.

Your have the big stage but just remember people don't have to agree with your views, nor are we all offended by different views, grow up and report both sides.

A Latino, Hispanic, Mexican American or maybe just a member of the bigger world group of everday people who dont give a crap about labels people like you put on people.

Charles   May 29th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

La Raza is a racist organization. They only exist because of the blood of African Americans spilled during thier plight and off the backs of those in the Civil Rights Movement. All these Latino's and Asians werent running over here in the 1800's and early and mid 1900's and they didnt come to the south either. And they aint comming here to 'make America a beautiful place either'. They are just cowards with numbers sucking America dry like a slurpee on a hot day. Now that the fight is over, they are using the rights Blacks fought for, for thier own purposes. Opportunists. They move to poor black communties and set up shop, work for lower wages, and alienate everything we fought for for thier own selves. Rats who wait for crumbs, get fat of the crumbs, multiply, and then try to take over the whole house!
Abd Amnesty for illegals is the biggest slap in the face for American citizens since mandatory auto insurance. How you gone take me to jail for running a red light, and give illegals who dont file taxes, get fake id's, steal money from the US Government and States, drive illegally, and a host of other crimes here and probably in thier former country a "FREE PASS" like monopoly. Immigrants even get a better credit rating than citizens who worked and lived here and paid taxes thier entire lives.... Man, What politicians would'nt do for a vote!!!

Jack   May 29th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

pewkster   May 29th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

Yes, Sotomayor is a racist. She is also a sexist. The most disturbing aspect, however, is her predilection for putting her own personal agenda ahead of the laws of the land which she has taken oaths to protect.

Curtis   May 29th, 2009 4:31 pm ET

To compare La Raza to an organization that has killed, maimed, burned unnumbered minorities is horrible! As a black man I take offense to that comment.

It would be like comparing people who support a woman's right to chose, to Natzi's.

pat   May 29th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Jose Angel Gutierrez, professor, University of Texas, Arlington; founder of La Raza Unida political party. "We have an aging white America. . . . They are dying. . . . They are ******** in their pants with fear! I love it!" "We have got to eliminate the gringo, and what I mean by that is if the worst comes to the worst, we have got to kill him."

This is a quote from the founder of LaRaza that I discovered in trying to sort the truth from the lies. Certainly, the very least that can be said is that the organization has had some "questionable" charaters in their history. I'm not saying that an organization can't evolve...but I can also see why some people think that their roots are "racist".

Molly   May 29th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Rick – Does it matter that Tancredo confuses La Raza with Mecha or any other Latino organization who focuses on the uplifting of a community? They can’t even “get” that we as Latino’s are a very diverse group of people with more issues than just Immigration. We are Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexican-Americans, Cubans, Guatemalans, Chicanos, etc. Tancredo and his ilk have only ever seen Latinos through a very narrow prism. As a Chicana I care deeply about the Environment, the Economy, Poverty, Education, and qualify of life. The Republican Party as it exists will never get my vote as long as they continue to see and treat Latinos as second class citizens.

Brandon   May 29th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

The reason why all these latino's are mad a tom delay is because the truth hurts. They were always told since a little kid that the white man are all racists. Over time the racist card has been reversed. Latino's hate having egg on their faces too.

Sharon,Daniel Island, South Carolina   May 29th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

Old Southern saying "The more dirt you kick at someone the more ground you lose". Old Saying from me if the GOP hates it, it must be good for me

Jerome Auerbach   May 29th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Rick,

I'm extremely tired of what I'm seeing on CNN and in newspapers. I was raised colorblind and during my 27 years in the military, that up-bringing served me well. I worked alongside people of both genders, many ethnic backgrounds and color. As long as the person was qualified for the position he/she was filling, that's all that mattered.

I thought that decisions made by any judge were supposed to be based on the evidence presented. A United States Superior Court Judge is supposed to make decisions based solely on her/his interpretation of the Constitution of the United States and not on personal feelings or beliefs or experiences. Neither gender nor ethnic or personal background should have anything to do with their decisions.

Unfortunately, this whole thing has become a political playground. Both parties are trying to dirty the waters for their own benefit. Limbaugh and Gingrich are just talking to make themselves look good. In fact, most people ignore what they say. The Democrats are trying to make it appear that if the Republicans try to stop her confirmation, they are being bigots and racists in the hopes that the Latino population will be disillusioned with the Republican party and will, in turn, vote democratic in future elections.

I say again. Political party affiliation should not see the light of day. Judge Sotomayor should be considered for U.S. Superior Court Judge based solely on her past performance as a judge and in her ability to interpret the Constitution fairly without putting her own spin on it.

I hope to see this on your program soon.

Rick: My name is Jesus Clemente. I am of Puerto Rican descent and an attorney for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Miami, Florida. I have been a federal attorney for over 20 years. My point: EVERY JUDGE LEGISLATES FROM THE BENCH. Why: BECAUSE OF THE INEPTITUDE OF CONGRESS, AND IT'S INABILITY TO DRAFT CLEAR LEGISLATION. By necessity the courts have to interpret what Congress attempted to but failed to say in the law. Almost every law in the immigration arena has to be litigated by the federal circuits and the Supreme Court, mainly because of Congressional ineptitude. If Congress were capable of writing proper legislation, there would be no reason for any judge to legislate from the Bench.

The Republicans' constant attacks on the "HONORABLE" Sotomayor is nothing more than another attack on the Hispanic people. The Republican Party is quickly becoming irrelevant.

Deece said: "It’s regarded as racist if a group of whites ban(d) together and form an organization to advance white’s rights. Why is it acceptable for La Raza?"
Its really quite simple. Its usually because groups of whites doing that are attempting to keep other people subjugated and suppressed, whereas minority organizations are trying to achieve equality and parity.

William Mcdonald   May 29th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

La Raraza is a racist organization that supports illegal immigration which is destroying America and it's citizens lives! They take our constrution jobs from us, deplete our wages where we can't pay our mortage or feed our children or dogs!

P James   May 29th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

The only people making a big deal about Judge Sonia Sotomayor ethnicity is President Obama and the Judge herself.
Her associations do matter. LaRaza advocates for immigrants right, which is no problem, but they do not distingush between LEGAL and ILLEGAL. Also in comments, it is said LaRaza means "The people" it also means "the Race".
It is a disgrace for anyone to elevate someone because of their ethnicity.
Also, the judge has advocated of making law from the bench. I have a problem with that. The courts are to determine the Constitution and the law. NOT TO MAKE LAWS.
Judges, Congress and the President take an Oath to uphold the Constitution. I do not see that happening at all.
Congressman Tancredo is right about LaRaza, it is a Racist organization.

as an Independent Puerto Rican i am amazed that so many spanish people believe that Democrats are better for them then Republicans, the Democrats are only using the spanish people for their votes, as for Sonia Sotomayor, Barack Obama clearly picked her for that reason, not for anything else, i know there are far more qualified people to choose from. we should end Affirmative action now! I am tired of the pc police, STOP IT!!

P James   May 29th, 2009 5:03 pm ET

You will notice that the tactics that are used by LaRaza are to stop your free speech. It is O.K. for all of you to call Republicans racist, but I challenge you to be specific with your quotes.
There is nothing racist in demanding that our immigration laws be followed.
Over 37 million foreigners entered the USA legally in 2007. They came here to work, go to school and to be tourist. There is no excuse to allow illegal aliens to avoid our laws. LaRaza wants them all to be given amnesty. Rewarding illegal behavior only gets more illegal behavior. There are currently somewhere between 20-30 million illegal aliens in the USA. It cost Ca. 11-13 BILLION each year for social services. I will be happy to send all of the illegal aliens to your state.

Oh my god Rick, what the hell is going on in America right now, i am so  disgusted with the gop right now, being half hispanic, my mother was  a beautful hispanic lady with a huge heart would do anything to help anyone less forunate, and believe me she didn't have much, my dad was a red haired greeneyed irishman from kentucky, they met in  Albuquerque New Mexico where my dad was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base, they always taught us to be respectful of all ethic backgrounds, the gop has crossed the line over race to many times now, comparing latinos to the kkk is despicable, during the campaign calling President Obama a terroist and kill him, r we supposed to trust the gop ever again, because all we see r old white men spewing their hate, where the hell is john mccain on this issue, why has he not come forward and say something anything regarding this issue, oh yeah he allowed the hate speech at all of his campaign rallies, the gop is so far into the wilderness, personally i don't think they'll ever come out, they're bitter and down right hateful, bush divided this country so bad, i'm not sure what america rush, hannity, o'reilly, coulter, the cheney's and all the right wing crazies live in, but it's not the beautiful diverse country that the majority of people live in, we proved that with the election of Barack Obama, God Bless You Mr President and your beautiful family AND GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA..........

Rick, on the Trancredo ordeal; it is clrearly a last-ditch attempt (futile) by some xenophobes who probably think that Judge Sotomayor "looks too Hispanic" for their taste – Here is one that will keep them awake for a while – Sotomayor is not the first Hispanic appointed to the supreme court – there was Banjamin Cardozo. appointed by President Hebert Hoober in 1932, to replace Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. Cardozo was the son of immigrants from the Iberian Peninsula (by U.S. Census standards – Hispanics)
"Cardozo believed that there was room for judicial law-making in the common law and promoted his activist philosophy not only in his decisions, but in his many lectures and treatises." a quote from the historical Society of the Courts of New York.

Rick, just watched the interviews and must say that you certainly add to CNNs reputation of bias. The woman is a racist there is no discounting what she said. You can continue to make excuses but she is what she is. Also La Raza is a racist group I would suggest anyone unfamiliar with them to do a bit of research. Remember, the opposit of judicial is prejudical...just sayin.

Mary M. McCarthy   May 29th, 2009 6:32 pm ET

You're a reporter Rick.

I have posted a direct quote from NCLR's website regarding E-Verify. La Raza continues to pass this propoganda around to all it's members, for discemination.

I'm not a crack reporter like you guys are, admittidly, but I've gone to the web page of Department of Homeland Security to get the facts regarding E-Verify. Will you?

Is La Raza calling our Dept. of Homeland Security, liars?

Here's some "probing" questions a simple citizen like me asks (imagine what CNN can do?):

What agenda could NCLR possibly have, to negate a system that would prove employers are hiring illegal aliens ?

The law states "employers must KNOWINGLY hire....".

Why would La Raza not want E-Verify to hold corporations responsible for hiring cheap labor and exploiting the people they, NCLR, insist they are supporting and protecting?

I know you hold yourself out to be a professional Rick. Do you have the courage to shine the light on NCLR?.

Sincerely,

Mary M McCarthy

**********
from NCLR.org re: E-Verify

"Of further concern to NCLR is the recently added requirement in the House bill calling for a massive expansion of E-Verify, a flawed employment verification system. Given E-Verify’s track record of discriminating against Latino workers—immigrant and U.S. citizen alike—this costly measure threatens to drive up Latino unemployment rates even further."

its getting to be an embarrasment to see what sore losers the gop is! they continue to be the biggest threat to our national security by airing dirty laundry and belittling everything OUR ELECTED president says and does ! the world cannot respect us as long as all this internal conflict does not end. the economy, our image and our security has suffered enough because of the greed and apathy of a powerful few without scrupples. lets get on with rebuilding and stop the pettiness and nitpicking! There is not white people in Colombia, Chile, Brazil? where they have lots of germans, swiss and French descendants

M. H.   May 29th, 2009 7:58 pm ET

According to Tancredo belonging to, or associating with a group such as La Raza makes you racist as they gave an award to someone with racist views. Using that same logic, Tancredo is racist as he has a long history of association and taking money from racists. Tancredo has yet to apologize or disown these associates.

Close friend/associate John Tanton, "Tanton is considered the ‘godfather of anti-immigration’. A believer in strict population control bordering on eugenics, Tanton is one of the stalwarts of the pro-abortion Planned Parenthood organization." "Tanton packed up and took his game elsewhere, founding FAIR, the Federation for American Immigration Reform. He also founded a publishing company, Social Contract Press, which is known for its racist, white nationalist, and anti-immigration editorial stance."

Associate Jared Taylor, "There is Jared Taylor of American Renaissance Magazine. His most recent article is entitled, "Do We Need More Hispanics". Taylor controls an organization called The New Century Foundation. Speakers at his conferences have included Gordon Lee Baum of the Council of Conservative Citizens. Attendees have included Don Black who operates the neo-Nazi site Stormfront and National Alliance leader Kevin Alfred Storm.

"On September 9, while barn-storming South Carolina he (Tancredo) appeared at a barbecue sponsored by the immigration reform group, Americans Have Had Enough. Listed as their honorary chairman, Tancredo appeared at the function, held at the South Carolina State Museum. The event was co-sponsored by the SC chapter of the League of the South, a one time ‘respectable’ organization that supported some very good historical research about the South. Unfortunately the League of the South has been hijacked by individuals who might be more comfortable in white robes and little pointy hats than three-piece suits. By the time Tancredo arrived at the State Museum, the meeting room was bedecked in Confederate flags.

Pepper Hanrahan   May 29th, 2009 8:33 pm ET

Perhaps the reason Tom Taqncredo is a former U.S. congressman is that he is making borderline slanderous comments such as La Raza is “nothing more than a Latino KKK without the hoods and nooses.”

This is really just GOP propaganda that is by definition deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the GOP.

Demonizing the enemy in this case an Obama nominee, is just one common propaganda technique.

Musa T. Camara   May 29th, 2009 8:48 pm ET

I am so happy about the recent comments by Tancredo, Limbaugh, Cheney, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Tom Delay etc. Now the Republicans are finally revealing their true colors. Now they are finally in clear language revealing their thought processes that brought our country over the past 8 years to the brink of disaster. They are ignorant racist, isolationists.

It seems that great Americans like Colin Powell and the late Jack Kemp no longer have a place in the Republican Party advanced by the above named individuals mentioned in the first sentence. I just keep hoping they continue to speak so they can continue to lose votes.

Top ten positions of La Raza that should give everyone reasons why Sotomayor should not be confirmed to the high court because of her association with La Raza alone:

10. La Raza supports driver's licenses for illegal aliens.

9. La Raza supports in-state tuition discounts for illegal alien students that are not available to law-abiding US citizens and law-abiding legal immigrants.

8. La Raza opposes cooperative immigration enforcement efforts between local, state, and federal authorities.

7. La Raza sponsors militant ethnic nationalist charter schools subsidized by your public tax dollars, including the "Aztlan Academy" in Tucson, AZ, the Mexicayotl Academy in Nogales, AZ, and Academia Cesar Chavez Charter School in St. Paul, Minn.

6. La Raza gives mainstream cover to a poisonous subset of ideological satellites, led by Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, or Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA), which the late GOP Rep. Charlie Norwood rightly characterized as "a radical racist group... [and] one of the most anti-American groups in the country, which has permeated U.S. campuses since the 1960s, and continues its push to carve a racist nation out of the American West."

5. La Raza opposes a secure fence on the southern border.

4. Former La Raza president Raul Yzaguirre, Hillary Clinton's Hispanic outreach advisor said this:

"US English is to Hispanics as the Ku Klux Klan is to blacks." He was referring to US English the nation's oldest, largest citizens' action group dedicated to preserving the unifying role of the English language in the United States. La Raza also pioneered Orwellian open-borders Newspeak and advised the Mexican government on how to lobby for illegal alien amnesty while avoiding the terms "illegal" and "amnesty."

3. La Raza is currently leading a smear campaign against staunch immigration enforcement leaders and has called for TV and cable TV networks to keep immigration enforcement proponents off the airwaves-in addition to pushing for Fairness Doctrine policies to shut up their foes.

2. La Raza has consistently opposed post-9/11 national security measures at every turn.

1. The National Council of La Raza means The National Council of "The Race," for God's sake."

Dreiss   May 29th, 2009 9:55 pm ET

What I get from Tom Tancredo's comments is that he may be a racist. Racists seem to see the world in black and white, no pun intended. But, that needs to be confirmed. Let's look at his voting record and find out. Please be careful and not take his words out of context.

Brandon   May 29th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

It's usual that a hispanic group would try to subjugate and suppress whites. Whereas white minority groups are trying to acheive equality and parity.

Don Roberts   May 30th, 2009 4:21 am ET

Source of the distortions == La Raza

Much of the garbage that has been thrown around about La Raza can have traced back to distortions and intermingling of facts in an article by Rep Charlie Norwood in April 2006. It is worth linking here to understand where these "facts" are coming from:

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=13863

Obama's Press Secretary should not have apologized for Sotomayor's quote. It was out of context and refered to women and minorities having a special perspective on issues relating to women and minorities. Since the practices of the justices involve asking questions to define the law, it of course is useful to have different backgrounds bringing forth the questions. That is quite different than having a prejudicial view. That should be clear to anyone who reads the full speach.

It's funny that these hispanics keep regergitating the exact same responses towards the gop on this rick sanchez blog. I guess there are not that many hispanic independant thinkers as I had thought. For ex. Ooooohh you guy's are in trouble. The media tells us poor opressed hispanics the gop is alienating the progressives and minorities, and are digging themselves a massive hole in which they will never get out. Let's all sing along! la la la la la la la, lalala, lala! For the other independant hispanic thinkers, chew on this. You know the La Raza is the real issue here. And you know La Raza is a racially biggoted organization. And what the gop is saying is you can't have a superior court judge who belongs to such an organization. And I know a reverse discriminator when I see one. Grew up in the 70's and 80's in an all Mexican ghetto for 21 years. I know racism, believe me.

Here is the link to access the National Council of La Raza position(s) on Immigration issues:

http://www.nclr.org/content/topics/detail/500/

For each immigration topic, they accurately describe the facts of our laws. BUT, under the facts for each issue, they also describe NCLR's POSITION on the issue.

In EVERY instance, they OPPOSE our laws, and EVERYTHING ELSE our country, states, counties, cities and towns try to do to discourage ILLEGAL immigration.

The NCLR site also openly states that they advocate for the entire LATINO population without regard to immigration status.

Explore the site for yourselves: It's nclr.org It claims to be an American organization, but it doesn't sound very American to me.

For those who say NCLR's no different than the NAACP or the URBAN LEAGUE who advocate for blacks, let me just say this: At least those organizations are advocating for American citizens – not illegal aliens.

Jesus Clemente   May 30th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

It's clear from the awful and negative attacks by Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay and Tom Tancredo that they are White Supremacists, offended because a Hispanic woman compared her intellect to that of their own. In theory, Republican's contend minorities should strive to pull themselves up from their bootstraps and aspire to be like the "Republicans." But when the minorities achieve the American dream, the Republicans "cut-them-down." White Supremacy is alive and well in America.

Jesus Clemente, Esquire

Jesus Clemente   May 30th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Rick: Regarding the attacks against Sotomayor: White supremacy is a theory that white people are superior to people of other racial backgrounds. The term is sometimes used specifically to describe a political ideology that advocates the social and political dominance of whites. White supremacy, as with racial supremacism in general, is rooted in ethnocentrism and a desire for hegemony. It is associated with varying degrees of racism and a desire for racial separation.

White Supremacy is what plagues Limbaugh, Gingrich, DeLay and Tancredo.

I just want to say a few things about racism. How can some people call someone a raciest.People who really do not know what the word really means. They have never been looked at as non-human or looked at lower than a farm animal. When have they ever been told to sit at the back of the bus or spit at because of the color their skin, and they want to call someone a raciest.Im not saying that they are raciest themselves, but if you really never went through it,how would you know if what you are hearing or seeing is really raciest.Just because someone says it is a raciest comment does not make it one.Especially from people who have never been spit on because of their color in The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.AND THEY REALLY WANT TO CALL SOMEONE A RACIEST.

bellaY   May 30th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

Seeing the way these people have reacted to Judge Sotomayor is a little disconcerting to me. I watched this one guy who I think was Tancredo on MSNBC literally screaming yesterday. America is changing, and they can't handle it. Minorities coming in to power and becoming the majority has forced some people to freak out and show their true colors. Obama threw them a curve ball when he nominated Sotomayor. This is why some white's don't like it when minorities look out for each other. They think we're conspiring against them. They need to get over themselves. LOL!

LouDobbs is a RACIST   May 31st, 2009 11:37 am ET

Tom Tancredo and Lou Dobbbs need to go spend a week or so in Mexico after their racist comments throughout the years against Hispanics, I wonder if they would say anything against hispanics there. CNN is a racist network, when I can watch a program on CNN called "being Latino in America" or "Brown in America", then I will believe otherwise. Frankly, the spokeswoman for La Raza was so timid, we need to hear someone that is brave and NOT afraid of going against the racist pigs that want to keep latinos down. I can't wait for election time in 2010, then we'll see how many Latino votes you will get. Rick Sanchez I think Lou Dobbs would eat your lunch, because you too are also very timid. I'd love to see Geraldo Rivera interviewed soon, now he won't cower to no one. I believe these jerks are so afraid because they know that Hispanics will surpass every race in America very soon, we just have to get our people to get out there and VOTE, they need to realize that is their VOICE. Lou Dobbs, Tom Tancredo, Rush Limbaugh can go straight to hell along with CNN.

Guess what, she was married to an Irish American before also. I guess she's into white men. HAHA!

These allegations are so ridiculous, I'm glad I'm leaving the party,

Thanks again CNN (Rick) for making Republicans look foolish, again. I'm a conservative AMERICAN with a Mexican background and I'm disappointed on how Judge Sotomayor is being used by both sides for their political agenda. I really do hope that she was nominated because of her abilities as a judge and not because of her race to push an agenda. I agreed with Eric, there is a double standard and only when it benefits them, race is used. Not all republicans are racist and of course you will only cover anything to make them look bad. My hope is for hispanics/latinos to realize the beauty of this country and what it has to offer if you work hard. That is how Judge Sotomayor reached her dreams because she worked hard and NOT DEPENDED ON GOVERNMENT! Let’s see if you post this one. I’ve learned when you know the truth is sets you free from the lies.

The cop killing in NY shows that white police are more apt to shoot blacks first and answer with lies later. Remember dead men can't talk. To bad they find out after that the black man was also a cop.

I think it was Madea (Tyler Perry) who said, "When somebody shows themselve to you, believe 'em!" Republicans are showing their true colors. These guys are not in office, so they CAN say what they truly feel without consequences. It demonstrates their lack of understanding concerning minorities. They have this mentality that we are all equal, struggles no longer exist, and everything's honky-freakin'-dory. (It's what you call, "Out of touch with reality.") Um, no! (And the election of Michael Steele was just an sheer act of tokenism. We all know damn well the GOP wouldn'd elect a Black person if Obama wasn't elected!) Rush and GOP not needing the Hispanic vote?- classic George Wallace Republican. At least now more Hispanics will see why a lot of Black people have not been voting Republican for decades.

my comment seems to have been lost! ok here I go again: knowledge of a subject, respect for other views, tolerance for different opinios, Americans in general ( not all !!!) have a narrow view of the world outside, moreover, there is no interest in the geography or the history of other cultures.... some people have very restricted, obtuse ideas about anything that happened or happens outside their homes, when you open these debates..... it becomes clear that we need to address the problem of education.... there will be no progress until somebody, somehow, convinces this segment of the American population to go outside their protected sphere.... to challenge their views and to become interested..... I said before....... NOT ALL MEXICANS ARE ILLEGAL, NOT ALL ILLLEGALS ARE MEXICANS, NOT ALL MEXICANS ARE CRIMINALS AND NOT ALL CRIMINALS ARE MEXICAN..( ARISTOTLE ?? REMEMBER??) it is now wise to make generalizations...... after all....... this is a lost-lost situacion where nothing good results of an empty and ignorant opinion

As a child I learned that hostility BREEDS hostility. We all are by-products of our past relationship with the effects of Racism, overt/covert, in our communities, churches, job environment, schools, media, courts, etc. Until the power of love is a priority in our hearts and minds, this will unfortunately continue. We all must...ON PURPOSE...oppose such behavior, especially when it rises up within our hearts/minds for petty reasons or justification for revenge and / or power over another. Americans who continue to spread this poison is not ready to handle the truth. As for anyone who puts God first...remember His words..."how can you love me...if you don't love your brothers and sisters" (please someone find this scripture so the exact quote can be printed). Thank You.

drue hartwell   June 3rd, 2009 3:29 pm ET

it seems to me in all the newscasts i've listened to on this 'racist' subject, that those people who think this was a racist comment are all white males who would have no or very little idea what it is like to be a minority and therefore cannot see this comment by Sotomayor as being non-racist. They simply cannot relate.

Desiree   June 3rd, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Hi Rick –
Tancredo IS a racist. Whether or not he admits it, he is infamous in Colorado for being a racist. The people who support him are either oblivious and naive, or racist themselves. He does not represent me or many of my fellow Coloradans.

Kevin - Canada   June 3rd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Lets be realistic, if a caucasion person said a comment like this they would be dealing with the same firestorm as Sotomayor. Trying to discern what she "Really" meant is a moot point.

rich Chavez   June 3rd, 2009 4:26 pm ET

Rick,
Why would they apologize now? Because it is convenient and they have been shown that they will hurt republicans in future elections ... they continue to be offensive and always apologize afterwards ... how many chances do they get? Why would anyone, republican, conservative or whatever, listen to the likes of Gingrich (Ugh) Limbaugh or Tancredo? All bafoons.

Clell   June 3rd, 2009 5:42 pm ET

The one segment of Sotomayor's statement which I think puts it into proper context is the fact that she said "I would hope". The word "hope" I believe makes this statement less personal in context. I am amazed that of all the people who have read her statement, that no one has examined this statement to see what was really being said. We in america have a number of hopes, the greatest of which is that the persons charged with the safeguarding of our nation could surely find better things to spend time on rather than a eight year old speech. Especially a speech which has been misrepreseted and taken out of context for political reasons.

Angela Savage Austin   June 3rd, 2009 8:37 pm ET

Response to Kevin-Canada...my point exactly. We all fall short. I am a Black woman and at times I find myself thinking, feeling the same way about others and it really hurts inside that I am as guilty as those I condemn.(sp). Still I pray and hope that these petty behaviors discontinue in me as well. We as the human race ....on purpose.....must strive towards harmony. Will it take another life form from another planet that believes humans beings are inferior and need to be eliminated, before we appreciate each other. As a child I don't remember having these evil thoughts and feelings....they came from my experiences through life from people who discriminated against me....on purpose!

If a person having difficulty to pay a 30 years mortgage, why can the bank extend the note to 40 years? this will lower monthly

Angie Billis   June 4th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

OK, I have always supported the Muslim communities in the Middle East, but they make it very hard. Now I am totally disgusted, they hated Bush (understandably) for his policies, but Obama is trying to reach out to them and they are still not happy (saying that his speeches are all for show) How would they prefer the U.S. to address them and their issues?

alfie   June 4th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Patience is what we all must heed. It took years, decades, even centuries to do all this damage.. Racism, Hatred, Murder,Greed, War,Poverty/Famine,.I pray it will only take a heart beat... our own.... to awaken every man, woman and child to the day we all choose brotherhood over war.

Harley   June 5th, 2009 10:48 am ET

She is a racist by saying that Hispanics woman are smarter than white men !!! But the Libs want her because she is a women, and Hispanic, and they don't care if she is not right for the JOB has long has your different you got the JOB !!!

G. Byron Kenworthy   June 5th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Well Rick, Perhaps one could interpret our leader's coining of the Axis of Evil as equivalent to what Hitler said in the speech you just previewed. Sound like the same idea to me.

Gene M. Barron   June 5th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Rick, you really need to be careful, Bill O'Reilly will send his goon squad, headed by Jesse Waters to get you for correcting his lies. The way he sees things is the only way they can be, according to him. Cudos for reminding him that CNN did in fact cover the murderous attack on the two soldiers by the turncoat Muslim convert.

Jose Reyes   June 5th, 2009 7:47 pm ET

Well, it appears that she said that "racist/sexist" statement more than once, over a long period of time. She now must explain herself.

Jeff Sartori   June 8th, 2009 5:41 pm ET

She is racist. Latino people have been out to get whites from the start but what they need to realize is they would not be what they are today without the "white" people, which is the dominant race.

Jeff Sartori   June 8th, 2009 6:07 pm ET

Since all of you are so sensitive to this subject, what would you say to all the illegal immigrants that are crossing the border by the thousands? I bet it would be "it's ok, you can stay in the U.S. even if it is illegally." I bet if the roles were reversed and we tried to immigrate to Mexico, they would not be so understanding. Bleeding hearts is a perfect assessment.

Rick–
Please do not refer to a man who shoots innocent people as a "Gentleman". Ther is nothing gentle about such a man. It sounds stupid. Just call him a "man."

That's right, it's the old double standard. So called "minorities" are given a pass when it comes to racist statements. If it's racist for a white person to say it, it's racist for anyone to say it. George Washington refused to be designated as a King, but when Newsweek editor Even Thomas proclaimed that Obama was God the president dawned that mantle like he deserved it. When it comes to heroic figures, I go with Superman. He fought for Truth, Justice and The American way not Lies, Oppression and A New World Order which has been our Dear Leaders agenda so far. The Zombies have bought into this idea that Obama is God and Bush is the Devil. If that's the case can't we get rid of him through the separation of Church and State which is always such a flash point with the radical left?

john   June 12th, 2009 9:54 pm ET

I think what Tom Tancredo was trying to say; if he were to say what Sonia Sotomayor stated he would be run out of town.

What about the New Haven Firemen's law suit, it doesnt seem fair.

howard   June 13th, 2009 12:05 am ET

I wonder how they will tip the Firemans test in the direction of minorities. Write it in ebonics?
