So Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama's choice for the Supreme Court, has an association with the National Council of La Raza, one of the nation's largest Hispanic advocacy groups.

That's the same group former Republican congressman Tom Tancredo characterizes as being no different from the KKK. Yes, the KKK! He said that, live, to Rick Sanchez!

We invited the president of La Raza onto the show to answer that charge. We invited Tom Tancredo to appear at the same time.

Can you guess which one accepted that offer?

Watch this clip. You'll hear the message Tancredo sent Rick in response to that invitation. You'll see Janet Murguia defend and support her organization. Make up your OWN mind as to whether that group is, as Tom Tancredo puts it, "a Latino KKK without the hoods and/or the nooses".

Rick, you can't be that gullable. Republican's ARE NOT anti-immigration, as you claimed today. We're just anti-ILLEGAL immigration. Either you know this and intentionally report this obvious, liberal mantra, or you don't know this. Either way, it makes you a loser.

Russ D   May 29th, 2009 7:59 pm ET

Rick, I really think that Tom D and Tancredo are still trying too appeal to what they consider theyir "base." Many Americans aren't looking at issues that way anymore.

Janet   May 29th, 2009 8:11 pm ET

La Raza is obviously not a racist organization – that's absurd. They are for advancing the community in a positive way. I'm all for that. However, I once attended a La Raza meeting in college because I wanted to listen and learn. The meeting was held mostly in Spanish (even though they knew very well I couldn't speak it). Not sure how other meetings are held but this didn't send the message that they were trying to be inclusive at all.

Strong Congressional Support Exists

The strongest Congressional bipartisan movement in recent history has been the backing by both parties of big business investors in their scheme to exploit the working class regarding such activities as health care, job outsourcing, illegal immigration and many others.

Can someone figure out how many cases Sotomayer has heard in her career? Are we judging her over a few cases and ignoring the masses? I am an independent, but I wish you guys would just let idiots like Limbaugh (isn't that bad smelling cheese?) and Tancredo continue so they will just bury the so-called Republican party. I am a veteran of Viet Nam (Captain in the Marines), and I cannot stand John McClain. Yes, he did a heroic thing while he was a prisoner of war; but why was he there in the first place? Did he screw up and was shot down? He was at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. And then he selected Palin as his running mate but, after defeat, he said he would not support her if she ran for president - yet he was willing to have her one heartbeat away from that. I was pleased with Janet Murguia's performance.
This is my first time ever to send in a comment to anyone. I retired as a school teacher a couple of years and have become adicted to CNN and my favorite is Rick Sanchez. Keep up the good work!

Greg   May 30th, 2009 1:18 am ET

i have to tell you rick it upset me more then a little when you were talking about the organization la raza with that obviously prejiduce white man you know i dont care what you have in life what your status is or where you live you will always be who you are thats something that cant be changed and especially with latinos something that should be embrassed and to see you sit there when he started popping off about the kkk and you not cyt him off and say wait wait now your getting carried away i understand you are suppose to be fair and balanced but nomatter what you are you are always latino and even if you dont like this fact you represent us all and to see you not get upset upset me very much i will tell you traditionally and fundamentally the republican part has always ben for white people i dont care what anyone says even those sellout people of color like leslie sanchez and michael steele any of them i listen to you sometimes and you make me scratch my chin because most of the time i think you sound like a democrat but once in a while you sound a little upedy then i remembered you said your wifes father is a big time republican so i guess that answers why all i can say is selling out yourself is one thing but never ever sellout your people HERMANO

Tom B   May 30th, 2009 3:04 am ET

Hey Rick,

I have watched your show and heard your comments several times over the last few years. You have a very "BIG" ego for some reason and think your some kind of tough guy. I think Tancredo, may be right if this judge is an active member of THE RACE and only the RACE "LA RAZA". Maybe you also support their views.

Can you please do a story on the LATINO GANGS attacking blacks in Los Angeles, California. Big story, but nothing from you about these racist attacks on black citizens.

Black family attacked if Monrovia, California by Mexican Gangs members. Whiitier Daily News: FBI joins probe of Racial attack May 15, 2009.

Hispanic Gang "TOKER TOWN" attacks black pastor and his son, Fullerton, California. La Times: February 15, 2009. Then this one, "Dozens arrested in crackdown on Latino gang targeting blacks" in Hawaiian Gardens, California.

Jamiel Shaw, who was killed by an illegal immigrant Gang member. Did you cover this story ? Why not ? American citizens of all races need to know what is going on.

This is only a few of the long list of crimes and killings that I read about every single day in our local papers. You need to state the truth. Los Angeles, is now turning into a third world city and I am sure you know why. Why are these people you support who hate the United States and break our laws burn our American Flags right after the illegal immigrant marches in our streets ?

Rick Sanchez, do your job !

Thanks for the show. Comparing La Raza to the KKK was a clear display of Republican desperation and their loss of power. Everyone who knows La Raza knows that the name doesn't translate to "The Race," nor does that make any sense, since Latinos or "Hispanics" come in all shades and sizes. To me, the comment from former Colorado Governor Lamm highlights just how out of touch the GOP, and why it's so important that they are not leading our country during this time, which is such an important time in history.

Tami   May 30th, 2009 8:50 am ET

I would like to know who are the Bond Holders for GM . I 've checked everywhere for a answer and nobody seems to have a list of them.Could you please report on this.

Jesus Clemente   May 30th, 2009 8:54 am ET

Rick: The following is what I wrote to Rush Limbaugh in an email regarding his views on the Honorable Sotomayor:

Dear Rush Mentally Deranged: It is clear from your rants about the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor that you are a White supremacist and offended that a Hispanic woman would compare her intellect to that of a White male. Are you also a drug addict/addicted to prescription drugs?

JB   May 30th, 2009 9:56 am ET

Well, nice job continuing to brainwash your viewers Rick. That was some in depth reporting. If you were for Al Quada, your viewers would prbably follow you down that road as well (not equating La Raza and Al Quada). That was hard hitting reporting, similar to what you did in Miami. Now, a real reporter would have done some research and realized that La Raza is made up of "300 community based organizations". As the women said, La Raza is not for re-aquiring TX, CA etc... . . .BUT, and this is where your job begins Rick, several of the 300 organizations that make up La Raza ARE!!!!!!!!

Rick, I challenge you to do your job, and not just try to brainwash people into believing what you believe. While, ignoring the facts. Put together a piece on what La Raza has fought for, who they have fought, why. What are the 300 organizations main agendas? Do you know?

But, I am willing to bet you will not. Beause that does not further your agneda.

JB   May 30th, 2009 10:03 am ET

Ross, she has heard MANY cases. 100's, and overall she has done a good job. 66% of her cases that have gone to the Supreme Court have been overturned. Many believe another will be overturned as well. Look into the New Haven fire dept case. It is pretty alarming. I do believe that it shows her bias towards minorties, at the expense of whites. Do I think she is racist? No, however, do we want to take that risk? I am confident that if a white guy had said and acted the way she has, minorities would not want to take a chance on her. Just as I am concerned. I look forward to the hearings. But do not assume you are going to get all the facts from Rick. See my post above. La Raza is made up of many organizations, and that women wasn't necessarily lying, but she conveniently left out facts. Rick, of course will not investigate anything that does not promote his agenda.

joetheplumber   May 30th, 2009 10:46 am ET

Rick, we understand that you and the other minions at CNN support double standards of racism, as long as minorities are the racists. The facts are, Sotomayor belongs to La Raza, made statements that were racist, and statements of how policy is made from the bench. Even Barry Sotero Obama cant defend these ridiculuos actions, statements and behavior. Barry is trying to blame the GOP for merely bringing up what she has done and said in the past. We always have to lower the standards for minorities. Barry himself is a product of Affirmative Action. Without that reverse racism, he would never be where he is today.

Half Breed   May 30th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

I happen to be half white and half hispanic, I hope this chic is not elected, I am embarrased to even admit I have hispanic blood becuase of her. La Raza "The Race" is the KKK. La Raza members are a bunch a border trash people that have 8 kids. All of them need to be shipped back to Mexico. Now Obama is putting everyone that is not white into high positions. Hired becuase your of color,...rofl....Obama is the worst thing that happened to the USA.

Dave   May 30th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

La Raza, is the same as the NAACP fighting for rights for all people. This smear campaign that Congressman Tancredo and the GOP is on is an attack on all minorities.

Sonceraee Yeldell   May 30th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Rick, you were the only one that showed Rev. Wright's full comments on air in context. Will you be the only one to show Judge Sotomayor's comments in context? I think it is a shame that CNN and other networks continue to show the edited excerpt from her speech. It took me over 30 minutes to find the full speech and its subject on the internet. CNN is just as guilty of sensationalism, if it does not show and discuss the entire speech. People are almost coming to blows over this non-issue. I expect this from FOX. Shame on CNN. I really enjoy your show.

Dennis   May 30th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Tom Tancredo's point about the KKK is clearly just hyperbole to sell the greater point about people from outside this nation holding power over our nation. Inflammatory for sure, but blowhards always have a little extra hot air to fuel the fires of debate. On the other hand, I think all advocacy groups should be disallowed from the public debate. Just vote on it and get it over with! If the people of this country want to allow the mistake of granting amnesty to criminals, shouldn't we start by pardoning Scooter Libby and Lyndon Larouche? At least they were citizens to start with.

charles pace   May 30th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Eric Holder was right. We are truly cowards when it comes to addressing racism. That is why we are not hearing from Republican leaders other than fools like Tancredo, Gingrich, Limbaugh ... And that is also why the democrats behind the curtain are having Judge Sotomayor "walk backwards" from her 2001 remarks. But think about it Sanchez. It is a very good thing to have this discussion. Wasn't it Chief Justice Rhenquist who got his start as an attorney in Arizona threatening Hispanics waiting in line to vote? This is a racist country but hearts and minds can be changed. It's a good thing.

ps. I'm a 55 year old white guy from Idaho. If that matters, get over it.

Tom Tancredo for all intents and purposes is a NUT! Along with Limbaugh and Newt (who should know better). Nowadays the people to be upset with are Hispanics. When the Irish and Polish emigrated to this country they were the second class citizens.

Our wonderful ruling class posted jobs with "No Irish Need Apply". Who of these people, with the exception of the Native Americans, have not come from somewhere else.

I'm so tired of this divisiveness. Good and bad come in all races, colors and religions. No one is all good or all bad.

Another Round of Gas Price Manipulation

Last year oil future speculators hit the top on oil and gas price manipulation so they had to drop way down to start generating big profits again. If they take turns raising oil prices all of them make huge profits. One future trader made three billion dollars in a single year. It's the consumers that pay for this.

Both the House and the Senate had committee meetings on the excessive gas prices and both concluded that they were caused primarily by trading speculators. Nothing was done to correct this important problem because big business contributors want no part of regulation.

Future trading speculators never take delivery of the product so they perform no service like manufacturing or distribution. Their only function is to raise the price and make a profit. Fleecing the public is an acceptable practice even though it does not promote the general welfare as our Constitution states.

Connie in Calgary   May 30th, 2009 5:40 pm ET

I'm a Canadian & I dont understand a few things about this whole thing.

Arent the Republicans playing dangerously with their support base by even mentioning the KKK? And wont the KKK feel diss'ed by being compared to a Latino advocacy organization? Do the GOP'rs really think that there's anything to be gained by those absurd accusations?

Or is Rush Limbaugh going to have David Duke, or some other real life KKK'r on his show to rant about their perceived injustices. ?

I have to state clearly here, that I know about the KKK and it's history, AND I DONT SUPPORT IT. But I think the media gives too much attention to those kind of absurd accusations and by doing so – and with credible people repeating them – make the comments seem more credible than they are.

Rick   May 30th, 2009 8:34 pm ET

Hmmmmm Sounds like alot of people believe that Rick Sanchez is more concerned with a "positive spin for the liberals" than reporting the truth. My quesiton to you Rick is Why weren't these comments shown on your "twitter" episodes when you were on air? maybe because your station was bound and determined to get Obama elected? And why has your station never said Well Folks the Democrats have been the majority in the House and Seanate since this recession started and we are still in the middle east fighting two wars? (Remember when all those Democrats lied and said if elected we will pull out? Oh wait thats a typical politican lie) It appears that people think the Democrats might be the true problem. CNN The most BIAS name in news. Get it right!!!!

Ken McIntyre   May 30th, 2009 8:44 pm ET

I'm White and an Independent. I wasn't particularly concerned about supreme court nominations in general however I was offended by Ms Sotomajor's quote.

It says that her sex and race better qualify her. That's racist.

If I said my life experiences as a white male uniquely qualified for a position that would be racist.

Her personal "feelings" are not what will better qualify her for the bench, unless perhaps for family court. And even then i would fear that her decisions would be too heavily weighted on sex and race.

It is not her job to single handedly correct all the past wrongs buy committing new ones.

I think in fairness a more thorough investigation of La Raza should have been done prior to being such a partial advocate.

The following is taken from a site on which a school teacher shared her perspective of La raza.

La Raza Teaching Racism In Publicly Funded Schools

Charles Signorile May 22nd, 2008 Education, Features, Racism

Just the other day the State of Tennessee announced they will no longer hire students who were home schooled for jobs that would otherwise require a high school diploma. Despite the fact that home schooled students are required to take a standardized test to insure their education level, the State Government apparently was concerned about what else the students may have been learning at home.

In Arizona we have an issue on the complete opposite end of the spectrum where it is not what is learned at home that is of consequence, but what students are being taught in publicly funded schools. Michelle Malkin points us to an Op-Ed in the Tuscon Citizen from a former teacher at one of La Raza’a charter schools:

During the 2002-2003 school year, I taught a U.S. history course with a Mexican-American perspective. The course was part of the Raza/Chicano studies department.
Within one week of the course beginning, I was told that I was a “teacher of record,” meaning that I was expected only to assign grades. The Raza studies department staff would teach the class.

I was assigned to be a “teacher of record” because some members of the Raza studies staff lacked teaching certificates. It was a convenient way of circumventing the rules.
I stated that I expected to do more than assign grades. I expected to be involved in teaching the class. The department was less than enthusiastic but agreed.

Immediately it was clear that the class was not a U.S. history course, which the state of Arizona requires for graduation. The class was similar to a sociology course one expects to see at a university.

Where history was missing from the course, it was filled by controversial and biased curriculum.

The basic theme of the curriculum was that Mexican-Americans were and continue to be victims of a racist American society driven by the interests of middle and upper-class whites. In this narrative, whites are able to maintain their influence only if minorities are held down. Thus, social, political and economic events in America must be understood through this lens.

This biased and sole paradigm justified teaching that our community police officers are an extension of the white power structure and that they are the strongmen used “to keep minorities in their ghettos.”

It justified telling the class that there are fewer Mexican-Americans in Tucson Magnet High School’s advanced placement courses because their “white teachers” do not believe they are capable and do not want them to get ahead.

As an educator, I refused to be complicit in a curriculum that engendered racial hostility, irresponsibly demeaned America’s civil institutions, undermined our public servants, discounted any virtues in Western civilization and taught disdain for American sovereignty.

When I raised these concerns, I was told that I was a “racist,” despite being Hispanic. Acknowledging my heritage, the Raza studies staff also informed me that I was a vendido, the Spanish term for “sellout.” (emphasis mine)

I touched on this briefly last week when I wrote about the white professor who was denied tenure for failing too many black students. The failures were not a result of institutionalized racism, but of laziness on the part of the student body who although offered the opportunity to go to college, refused to show up to class and do the required work. Political correctness would not allow the school to have such a high failure rate among its predominantly black student body, so rather than make an attempt to recruit more motivated students, they chose to lower the bar.

La Raza is now attempting to push the victim card on Mexican Americans in the same manner that Al Sharpton pushes it on African Americans. The result will be a self fulfilling prophecy. Convince a large enough group of people that they cannot succeed, and you remove their motivation to strive for success, thereby guaranteeing they will never achieve it.

A logical person would ask, “why would a group who is supposed to represent the Latino community make every attempt to keep them down?” The answer is quite simple, money. La Raza received $8 million from the Department of Education, and that number is sure to go up in the future. If Mexican Americans ever made an attempt to assimilate into American culture, and god forbid they made successes of themselves, groups like La Raza would lose their millions of dollars in government handouts.

As long as Mexican Americans, and Latinos as a whole feel they are victimized by an oppressive white majority, La Raza will continue collecting money from both the government as well as the Latino community themselves.

Update: From the comments section of the Tuscon Citizen:

I asked Raza Studies to come to my school to mediate some tensions between Hispanic and African-American students. Instead, they segregated the groups and the person who met with the Hispanic students went into a rant about how the students’ land — Tucson — was taken from them and that they should stand up to authority and assert their rights and show their pride. It was not a mediation session. It was a racist presentation and it was a disaster. (Raza’s presenter was also very big in TEA.)

I am proudly liberal and support good, reflective cultural studies, but what I’ve seen of Raza/Cultural Studies at TUSD seems misdirected and, frankly, very stupid.

Imagine asking a civil rights group to mediate between two ethnicities in your school, and instead they segregate them telling one group they need to assert themselves?

Seems the GOP is grabbing for straws and cant' seem to get it together.

Low life people with low rider cars put the "La Raza" sticker all over their window and they all have 6-8 kids. Total losers, most of them don't even want to speak correct english. These people are not good for the US. We should ship these people back to Mexico where they belong. I wish hispanics would just act normal :(

ronvan   May 31st, 2009 7:40 am ET

To me there is a simple answer to this. La Raza needs to sue Tancredo & take him to court to prove his statements. I always think that when things like this happen & the accused says they are angered & upset, but do not pursue the matter into the legal system that there might be some truth in the statements.

JB   May 31st, 2009 9:23 am ET

There are some many great points on this website. Points that I think require further invetsigation (Ken's post), and it is just like a liberal (I am IND, voted for Obama) to instead of raising an eyebrow, and saying , "huh, that is interesting", but instead call out people for being a racist. Just for bringing the points up. Nice job Jill. This is EXACTLY why Holder was right, we are a nation of cowards. It is because liberals and minorities scream racism anytime a caucasian questions an issue. Therefore, many whites hide in the corner for fear of being called a racist. Well done shutting down an argument. . . and. . . .creating an environment where, whites are second class citizens, unable to address a certain issues. And Rick furthers this everyday.

The ex police officer talking to you told you. THAT IS NOT A RACIAL ISSUE. IT IS BLUE vs. BLUE. You and your activist mind make all the issue a RACIST ONE. You are an oportunistic individual with NO moral and NO principles. FYI......I am CUBANO.

Rick, this is how this hate groups have managed to blackmail the American People, by scaring the hell out of them, it is absurd to hear Tom Tancredo complain of racism when his entire political career has been based on hatred of immigrants, they are afraid of Sotomayor because she thinks for herself, they want a slave of the law not someone who brings needed balance to the abuses of the legislative branch, they have crammed the books of U.S. law with their legislative poison and now want a an executioner

hey Rick, i really like the topics you cover on CNN. i have one that i hope that you would talk about. This came to my mind after i just heard about the abortion doctor (George Tiller), who was killed in WICHITA, Kan.
Its a sad thing to happen but why such type of incidents are not reported as "radical christian shot an abortion doctor..." just same as media reports on crazy fanatic Muslims who kill based on religious agenda or Muslim domestic violence in the US???

Good Afternoon Rick:

This is in response to the outrageous comments by Tom Tancredo in reference to La Raza and Judge Sonia Sotomayor. I'm an African American and I take offense to these derogatory comments which I believe are widely held by the majority of the Republican (GOP) party. This is the very reason that I WOULD NEVER be a part of the radical right because I DO NOT believe one single word they say especially in reference to me as an African American being included in their process because it would be an out right lie. We'll show them once again during the 2010 elections and we'll follow up by electing our President Barack Obama in 2012 for a second term!

Meg   June 1st, 2009 2:58 pm ET

These guys–Tancredo, Limbaugh, and Gingrich–need to stop trying to incite a riot in this country. Talk about liars, racists, and exaggerators. I can't believe that anyone takes them seriously. The media needs to quit giving them a podium for their poison.

Susanne Harper   June 1st, 2009 3:28 pm ET

I agree with you that Hispanic is preferable to Latino for those who trace their culture to the Iberian Peninsula. Particularly, use of the feminization "Latina" is both archaic and offensive. We have long since stopped saying "Jewess" and "Negress." If fact, we don't even say waitress anymore. I hope newscasters and Ms. Sotomayor will stop using this term forever. It is insulting to modern American women.

Jimmyb   June 1st, 2009 3:40 pm ET

GM.

When are these idiota who run GM going to realize that they make an inferior product. Most american made cars start falling aprt above 50,000 miles. And they you get ripped of by the dealership for repairs. That's how they make most of their money. Until the corporate greed goes away GM will never come back. They cut two of the best cars they make SAAB and Saturn. This tells me nothing will change.

You mentioned about the Automobile CEOs going to the hearings in private jets. I think it is the same as Obama going to New York to see a play and using a jet that is paid for by the tax payer. If it was part of his duties then that would be different. You should also point this out on CNN unless you guys are more favorable to the new administration.

La Raza is a group solely looking out for Hispanics and try to lobby laws all over Washington to put things into their favor, you know and I know it Rick! Lets call it what it is! If a group out their that used the same methods as La Raza does they would be labeled like a KKK you know it and I know it Rick! As far as Sotomayor, we do need more minorities and women on the bench but we dont need legislatures on the bench, you know it and I know it Rick!

RJ   June 1st, 2009 3:49 pm ET

About the big three, well its the big one now, FORD! They have for years been making a better product than the other two but you still have your GM freaks and Dodge nuts who cant let go! I have one thing to say for them if you want the only American car, then you`ll have to go buy a Ford! Keep up the good work Ford and show the world how an American car manufacture builds cars and trucks!

Why do you put Tom Delay on the air? He's a criminal. Who cares what he thinks?

Fubara David-West   June 1st, 2009 3:56 pm ET

This nonsense Dick Cheney keeps repeating is doing grave harm not only to the image of the United States, but also to the reputation of American soldiers serving around the world. The question it raises is whether a military led by political leaders with such a disregard for international conventions, should be considered to be a positive force in troubled military and political theaters around the world.

By Cheney's logic, Stalin was a great leader of Russia after World War II, because all of his Gulags were a patriotic reaction to the death of millions of Russians and Soviet citizens in the hands of German soldiers. This is so outrageous that the mass media should stop covering this running informercial from the former Vice President, outside of forums where he will be debated, and his folly exposed instanteously by other voices.

RJ   June 1st, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Yeah John funny how Delay is still a free man!

Marcus Epstein is the executive director for Team America Pac, The American Cause, founder of Racist Group Youth for Western Civilization.
Who is Marcus Epstein? He was convicted of a hate crime for karate chopping a Black woman across the head and calling her the 'N' word as she was walking down the street with her husband in Georgetown D.C. He plead guilty. He will be sentenced on July 8. What is also most important to know about Marcus Epstein is that he is executive director of these organizations mentioned above who are chaired by Tom Tancredo, Pat and Bay Buchanan. He is openly advocates his racist ideas on a white supremacist radio talk show hosted by Council of Conservative Citizen member James Edwards who proudly admits to hosting white supremacists and Nazis.
The next time you have Tom Tancredo on your show, ask him about thee organizations and of his friendship with Marcus Epstein.

Rick, do you take the time to point out the mistakes in President Obama's last speech before showing the current one? Then why single out Cheney?

And, do you always tell half of the story?

Cheney didn't want any of the interrogation memos released. But, if the President released part of the story, he should release all of it, including the parts that tell the results of the interrogations.

Careful, your agenda is showing.

Lets all settle down and look at reality, this is America, north and south America, it’s all America, at one point not to long ago about 200 years ago, Mexico and the Indians all being blood brothers in one way or another ruled the this country, we didn’t need a white British Invasion
to come here and pave our Land and cut our trees down and change our way of life , now we are ll doomed due to the war mongers that took over this once beautiful land that belonged to peaceful tribes and people who came here to avoid persecution from their Country.
Read the bible, America was be destroyed, due to it’s own doings, selling tech. to stupid people around the world, not taking out russia when we had the chance, and now we have a Adfrican President who says we will talk to ur foes and things will be tutti frutti again . yea sure they will.

Rick, before stones are cast at black or Latino firefighters regarding the the Ricci case, several factors need to be validated. Such as, the test it self, which never was validated. Also, get the US Department of Justice report on US cities, which have not complied with consent decrees regarding the hiring and promoting of people of color in fire departments. I haven't seen or heard a story about this side of the coin. This is larger than blaming Judge Sotomayor.

RJ   June 1st, 2009 4:41 pm ET

no one person should ever be excluded or promoted based solely on gender, race or religion! Its wrong and we know it! One day the white man will be a minority and will he at that point get to enjoy the same priviliges that the minorites of today enjoy?.....I bet not!

Don   June 1st, 2009 5:00 pm ET

Rick, it is of no surprise that Tom Tancredo is a former Republican congressman. I have been a Republican since 1971. I joined this Party as a result of becoming familiar with John Adams (one of the 1st Republicans). It is without saying that there are radical politicians out here calling themselves Republican, and I do not believe they are. They are a scary bunch, including Rush L.

This kind of nonsense gives a person reason to jump the Republican ship and go to another political party. What a dilemma these people have got us into.

This is one Republican that supports President Obama's selection here. This person attended a couple of great universities during her preparation for the practice of Law.

This recent attack on La Raza is horrible. Why didn't Tom Tancredo attack NAACP, who advocates similar programs. This is really sad.

Anthony Oluwatoyin   June 1st, 2009 5:41 pm ET

Everyone senses but no one seems to be able to pinpoint what is uniquely wrong with Sotomayor's assertion that she would hope to reach "better" judgements than a white male "who has not lived that life."

Would Sotomayor step down from cases involving white male experiences, since she has not lived that life? That would "ghettoize" professional aspirations of nonwhites. We would be relegated to "judging our own." Only.

Yet the whole point of racial equality is to get in on the largesse of broader and broader opportunity. The opportunity to sell to, to work with, to live next to, to - yes - stand in judgement over others. Sotomayor cannot claim to be just as good across racial lines but better when it comes to her own.

That is what is so strange about the fact that Sotomayor seems not to have felt the need to say that her judgement would be wiser than that of black males, or fellow Latino males, or, indeed, of other women, black and white. She only picks on white men. So she's not talking about experience. That's just a cover. She's either just another bigot or she's setting a whole new ghetto glass ceiling for cross-racial evaluation.

In fact, the real problem in America today, post-Obama/post-racial or not, is that we really have all become so "tribal" in expectation. We don't want racism but find no problem where race betters the odds. Yet black juries convict black defendants all the time. Why is that any different from the results of white juries?

Something decent deep within us actually warns that evaluation across the race may be less partisan in the pursuit of justice, but we - like Sotomayor - continue to play games.

True advancement opens up as much benefit as it leaves us open to disadvantage from the judgement of others. Shouldn't a judge, of all people, know exactly how that balance works?

Authentic Savage (Anthony Oluwatoyin).

Rick Sanchez:
Aren't you instigating alot of this...just to get viewers. Your last name is "Sanchez", therefore you should've been able to explain what "La Raza", instead of trying to get alot hits on your website, and viewers to tune into your show.

Shouldn't journalism include responsbility to research and clarify for the public. Instead of acting like jr high school about it?

You should know this already:
I Love this Music & this Mix!!! The Video is educational similar to NWA rappers! "La Raza" has its origins in early 20th century Latin American literature and translates into English most closely as "the people," or, according to some scholars, "the Latino people of the New World." The term was coined by Mexican scholar José Vasconcelos to reflect the fact that the people of Latin America are a mixture of many of the world's races, cultures, and religions. (nowhere near the definiton of Nazi).

Thomas L. Peyton   June 2nd, 2009 1:31 am ET

Rick: First I enjoy your broadcast and commend you for your tenacity in getting the truth especially from the "things" that allegedly represent us in the Congress and the Senate. Second, could you visit the following web site, please? - http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911
This is from the US geological service and essentially refers to the really ""VAST"" amounts of oil deposits in the Dakotas and Montana. If this is true, why are we not drilling for this oil on US soil and save Americans many dollars at the pumps especially since it is land based instead of ocean and normal logic would make this less expensive to get at. Third, when you vist T. Boone Pickens site on wind energy, there is a link that takes you to a site that contains information about a natural gas company on the east coast that also refers again to vast deposits of natural gas in the US. Why aren't these sources being utilized? Lastly, : Health Care: the major players that should be included are: Nurses, pharmacists, physicians, pharmaceutical co.'s, patients, employers and lastly just the US govt. The aforementioned could help in reducing costs without going to a Govt. sponsored system as in England.

Rick, I head you questioning what Judge Sotomayor said in the speech everyone is discussing. I have a question for you. Did you read the whole speach? If not, why not? Its on the CNN website as a pdf file. You can download it and get the entire context. What she was talking about in the speech was that ever jurist has something of themselves that the struggle to put aside when they are acting as a judge. She made it clear that this is something that she actively considers with every ruling she makes. That she strives to follow the law and not to color it with her own prejudices. I think it is extremely foolish for anyone to try to comment on a sound bite without having the context of the comment. This is the problem with the republican's trying to paint this statement of hers as a racist statement, they take it completely out of context. I think you, and everyone else, should reserve your opinions until you actually read the whole speech.

Shea   June 2nd, 2009 3:31 pm ET

I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I am against ILLEGAL immigrants. I am tired of people thinking they are entitled to come to this country for free and without paying for it. I am a US Soldier, I married a foriegn national. I had to pay over $3000 and reams of application forms just to bring her and our two sons that were born in a foriegn country back to my country that I am currently fighting for. If ILLEGAL immigrants get a free pass, it would be a slap in the face of our military personnel that went through the LEGAL channels to bring our spouses and children home. Now I am all for immigrants to volunteer military service to expedite the citizenship process,(which is currently a policy within the military).

President Obama is one of the most energetic person to occupy that office is recent years. He certainly does enjoy a "break" and enjoyable time with his lovely wife. I support him going on a date with her...I just think it would have been better had he waited until he had business in New York...it certainly would have cost less...I still support him...God Bless America.

Like any other group, there are moderates and extremes.

La Raza is the same – some go to great lengths to push the "re-conquest" agenda. Extreme Latino agendas for AZ public schools are an example. Those people at this extreme are no different than the KKK.

We in the US need to learn to tell the difference and quit letting idiots of any political persuation stir trouble – particularly the articulate ones Rick...

Rick – I am a moderate center right person from Asia. I have been watching your show.

I have many latino friends most of them are center right with family, faith, hard work and pro-business. But your subtle support to left wing Latino organizations/people in your show are appalling. Please start discussing the other point of view as well.

Hayden Dane   June 3rd, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Rick,
The media creates the firestorm over Ms. Sotomayor's comments by electing to give extended coverage to remarks by Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, and others who have no official standing in Congress or in the Republican party, and no vote on her nomination. Why do you and other media give them the platform. I guess they use you and you use them.

Robert   June 3rd, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Hi Rick,

I think that if a wealthy, privileged, and Yale-educated Federal Court judge who was a white man being considered for the Supreme Court of the United States, said “I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman who hasn’t lived that life,” his name would be withdrawn IMMEDIATELY.

Dr. Sam   June 4th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

From time to time, Ricardo Sanchez surprises me with his comments. Someone said to me that this guy is a conservative and is only out to defend the interests of the Republican Party. I am even startled abaout the comments he made regarding judge Sodomayor–comments that suggests that he is out to protect the interest of the Republican Party even if it hurts judge Sodomayor's chances. Many of his comments don't appear to be progressive at all despite the high drama of his shows.

Ron Siegel   June 4th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Obama's words are a huge breath of fresh air. It saddens me when I hear some conservatives dismissing him as a sellout. We finally have a president who has some humility. This is much more powerful
then the over simplistic divisive nonsense of the past eight years. I think our current president light years ahead of his critics.

Diane Hayden   June 4th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Rick,
it is insulting to compare the KKK and La Raza. I am an African American female, and believe me the comparisions couldn't be further from the truth. La Raza does not hang, murder, and denounce a race as inferior such as the KKK. They don't rape, steal, and destroy families, such as the KKK. I am simply amazed that in the year 2009, we are still race baiting in this country. Allow Judge Sotomayor to assume the Supreme Court role. She has certainly earned it, deserves it, and has the support of most Americans. Can we just all treat each other with dignity and respect in American?

Paulette   June 4th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

I would not say that La Raza is like the KKK. I do object to demanding that illegals be made legal. You cannot break the law and because of your sheer numbers think that that gives you the right to stay. I am a Black woman and I don't care who comes here legally but I don't understand what it is about illegal that is not understood by the Hispanic community. How is it that they are so vocal here but so quiet in their native countries? To me that is taking advantage of legal US citizens kindness. We feel for you, I personally feel for you but illegal is just that illegal. Go home and come back right and you will have all the support you need. I will be the first one in line.

bigpapa   June 5th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

LaRaza is a legitimate "affirmative action" organization, just like the Urban Leagbue, the NAACP, etc. It's funny–perhaps even terrifying–that white guys do not like to share the chocolate chip cookies. The GOP has to disown the comments made by Rush Limbergerger–he smells–and his cronies. There are respectable GOP spokesperson–like Bill Bennett and Colin Powell. As George Carlin would have said, "Colin Powell just happens to be black."

Liz   June 5th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Tancredo is a stain on Colorado. I'm so ashamed he's from my State, but they're will always be hateful, ugly, nasty people, unfortunately - and he's one of the worst. Please don't ever have him on your show again. Let's see more positive people, like our President. . . forget about the ugly, nasty people we've had to put up with for last many years. . . you know, Cheney, Limbaugh, Rove, Tancredo. . . we want to hear from President Obama, Michelle, Sotomayor, Bill Gates, Oprah. . . people who help others and the world. There's a million of them. . . .many more than those hateful ones. . . . let's hear about them.

you should be more serious. People died a horrific death.

Do Republicans think we have forgotten that they got us in to this multi-facetted fiasco in the first place?{ Economy, etc.}.
Did we not learn anything from the days of the Sp. Inquisition and the prohibition days? We are just promoting corruption and enriching deadly criminals with our current drug laws. We need more health care and education, not prisons.

Harold Thacker   June 11th, 2009 4:33 pm ET

Rick you always cut off the conservative point of view and never listen. You think your right. Be a reporter for once and find the message from both sides and let the viewer decide. On your support for the person selected for the supreme court by Obama check what the people who worked for her say. You'll find that some have been forced to be silent and some say she isn't very wise and hateful torward people. Remember affirmative action is a price we pay for unqualified people. You see it mainly in government. There are a lot of Hispanic people who have achieved great things with out it. Of course I can understand why you are so strongly for it.

Dismas   June 12th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

In 1974, after I returned form Viet Nam, I met a beautiful woman from Mexico City. Her parents were communists from Espania. She told me she would only date me if I agreed to attend some communist party meetings in San Ysidro, California.
Having just spent a year in trying to free Viet Nam from communism, you'd think I would have said no. But, this woman made Marilyn Monroe look like a 10 year old boy, in comparison. So, stupid me I went to the meetings with her a few times. Well, to make a short story, real long. . . Maria (that's the beauty's name) made me read Marx and Engels, "The Communist manifesto" and some other communist theme books. We sat around on the floor and devised plans for the overthrow of the capitalist, running dog, pigs. They were passionate in their desire to throw off the shackles of over-class.
Any way the name of the group was La Raza. At the close of every meeting we would jump up and pump our fists in the air and chant Viva, La Raza! Viva, La Raza, Viva, La Raza.
Do I think La Raza is like the KKK? No way! Unless they've changed their focus in the last 35 years, I think La Raza is a communist organization.
And, oh by the way, I'm not a communist. I think communism sucks. But Maria was the most beautiful woman I have ever had the good fortune to know (but not in the Biblical sense).

i come from other country end i can tel you that regardless of what i hear every day about the immigrants causing troubles in this country
and the hatreds that goes around towards our communities.
this is the greatest countries in the world, and we need to do our part to change their points of view towards immigrants, these peoples who preach hatreds, they are misguided and don't understand how the system works,i have been told many times bi different kinds of peoples, that i"m lucky because i don't has to pay taxes this is just one example, and you can imagine how that individual must fell but if i in stead of getting angry explains i"m sure he will change the way he thinks.Le's not forget that we are all sons of god and he love as all.our blood is red regardless what color u are we are all human Ben's no matter were you come from.

G G Granroth   June 15th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Liz is right to feel ashamed of being from Colorado with a representative in Congress like Tom Tancredo. His calling Sonia Sotomayor and La Raza racist shows the bottomless ignorance of which only a Republic candidate for President could have. He is committing what amounts to acts of verbal terrorism and should be charged as a public nuisance who is inciting people to antagonistic speech and behavior. Fox News channel commentators have incited someone to kill the Pittsburgh policemen. Janet Napolitano was right to note the rise of right-wing activism which is in danger of spilling out onto the streets just like in Iran right now for completely opposite reasons, politically speaking.

michael   June 17th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

No La Raza just wants to bring in illegals to drive down our economy
,take our jobs ,drive up the cost of welfare, drive up the cost of schooling,
drive up the cost of health care, add more street gangs & not pay any
taxes. That's all.

Now the KKK just wants to spread hate, crimes against races, killings
and segregation.

2 EVILS are country does not need if you ask me.

George   June 18th, 2009 12:17 am ET

Rick, my aunt and I have watched your broadcast over the last year and appreciate your coverage. However there is one incident which occurred in this last week that should make all minorities just wonder what the word "justice" really means in this country. Luiz Ramirez was beaten to death by a group of thugs. That is right, I called them out, thugs. How could a Judge allow such a crime against another human being to be treated as such? Thank God we still have the amendments to defend ourselves! If the Judges will not defend us, we must protect ourselves. "The Second Amendment"
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
No, that poor man died at the hands of cold blooded killers. What would the jury done had Luis used a Smith & Wesson and put some lead into these teenagers size 10 boots as they were kicking his skull in? "Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God" Thomas J. People think tyrants live in countries far away, when in fact they are present and at large.

Hi Rick,

I'm an Iranian-American in Los Angeles, and I have daily contact with student protesters in Iran. I noticed that on your show the last couple of days, you have aired the voice of a girl in Iran who is an Ahmadinejad supporter.
I speak for a lot of Iranians who are quite frustraded with supporters of the Islamic Republic who give very inaccurate and even false information on the air. You did a great job, yesterday, of bringing 2 young men with opposing opinions. I would like to see more of that with respect to your contacts in Iran whose comments you are airing on your show, especially in light of the fact that Ahmadinejad supporters are backed by the Islamic government and paid to spread false propaganda.
Thanks,
Nina

John Kelley   June 18th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

There is an old expression from WW2. "Loose lips sink ships."
John McCain's statement and other statements by Republicans show one thing to me about Iran: Republicans spew political rhetoric for consumption in the US, but in the process, McCain and others are undermining American national interests. Senator Lugar, a Republican supports President Obama's position instead of playing politics.
This is one of the reasons why I did not vote for John McCain. Many Republicans want war; they are NeoCons. And many of them have never served in the military. Need I say more.
