Oil, meet water. Charlie Rose tried to mediate a discussion between two of the most diometrically-opposed political minds in the United States: A Bill Clinton administration insider, and a George W. Bush administration insider.

James Carville and Karl Rove have more than a slight difference of opinion. Watch this clip and see these two men get under each other's skin. Again. And again. And again...

All I can say is wow. Two windbags who know a lot about politics – and are true experts – but very little about real life. Do they know anything about caring for elderly parents, children with health issues or making a living. Stop putting on Rove and Carville and give us solutions. Instead of heated exchanges, give us a chance to see the real issues and the real solutions.

JB   May 28th, 2009 9:52 am ET

Hey Rick, I wish I had the opportunity to see more of this. Being the only conservative that pays attention to you, let me bring up a great point made by Rove. This country's liberals rooted and prayed and hoped that Bush would fail. The dems in power at the time openly stated that if we were successful in Iraq, it would mean the end of dems for a while. And therefore, they needed to hope that didn't happen (you will deny this, but look it up, it happened, specifically from Reid). The eight years Bush was in office (minus the first one, when everyone was happy with his approach) created a whole new political world. A world where a political party is now a sports team. people root for their sprots team, and root against their rival. It is unhealthy. I don't agree with it, but Repubs I know have said they are going to do everything to ensure Obama and the dems fail because that is what they did to Bush. A great example of Bush being unfairly treated by dems and the media. . . "Bush is against stem cell research". That is a lie, and everyone knows it. In MA, where I am from many of my liberal friends went around spewing that garbage. It is a lie. As you know Bush was against publicly funded embryonic stem cell research. There were no restrictions on privately funded embryonic stem cell research. But, as far as a dem is concerned, why let the truth get in the way of a story that could make more people hate Bush.

And FYI, I would love for you to address the comment made by Sotomayor about hispanic women making better decisions than white males. Instead of just trying to rationalize, please, be open minded and fair. If a white male said he could make better decisions than a female hispanic, you, YOU RICK would be assaulting that person. So, what is it that creates this double standard? I would think that you of all people, someone who clearly stands up for injustices done to minorities would stand up for injustice regardless . . . oh I get it, it has to be a minority, otherwise, whitey just has to suck it up. I see, double standard. . . as long as it is the white guy being treated unjustly, rationalize away!!

M.L. Batchelor   May 28th, 2009 10:03 am ET

Could you please tell me whatever happened to Ms. Ling and her photographer who were arrested....were they ever released? I was away and am hoping I just missed a recent story....so many others have been released, but no word about them. Thanks, your show is great to watch!!!!! mlb

Ed Wise   May 28th, 2009 10:34 am ET

Karl Rove is a flim flam man. He conned this country and his own party for eight years with out right lies and fear to enrich his party and themselves. We have Karl to thank for this failed economy and foreign policy. The GOP finally woke up and has seen through this haze and now are internally fighting to save face. Karl and his gang are now left with a dismantled GOP and far left radicals such as Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Palin, etc. to try and place the GOP again. Wake up Karl...youve been exposed. Now you have members of your own party jumping ship.

kowboy357   May 28th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

Well, Karl Rove is not an educated man. He attended college, but he dropped out. He played the polictical game to rub shoulders with the right people. He put on a suit and some classes and portrayed to be smart. Oh, that is what go america in this position of trusting a white guy in a suit and assuming that he qualified due to his skin color. I'm referring to Wall Street, Enron, Stantord, ect. Karl Rove said he would vote for a republican for president. Hello! A person should vote for the best canidate, not just because he is republican. I would vote for Terrell Owens because he is black. We have a brain people use it. I think that red and blue party is like crips and bloods. I like you because you are a blood and I don't like you because you are crips, I wear blue. Now, don't that sound silly. Parties should be done away with and the best idea or best canidate should be voted for. It is not smart to vote just for a political party.

Greg   May 28th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

Hey Rick, I think you should give Sean Hannity an invitation to be waterboarded on your show.

Meg   May 28th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

Rove and Carville will never agree–they are diametric opposites. The Roves of the world had eight years to make a positive difference–and I think they ended up with a negative. I really don't care what Rove says or thinks. The media needs to let him go. His time is up.

Linda Twist   May 28th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Hey Rick,

I would hope that a "WISE WHITE MALE" with the richness of his experience would often than not reach a better conclusion than a "LATINA WOMAN" who hasn't lived that life.

You be the JUDGE???? Linda

jj   May 28th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

i agree.. enough of the scolling of sotomayar.. rick's comment that cnn thinks it's important to know about sotomayar.. is assanine. The scrolling has been going for 3 days now.. WE GET IT.. put stuff up thats current.. like the USA telling Isreal to stop settlements.. etc
Thanks rick.. luv ur show

Miss Sakina   May 28th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

On the woman who lied that 2 African American men abducted her and her daughter when she was really at DisneyLand, she needs to suffer the highest punishment possible within the law. In the past, African Americans have been slaughter for lies that white womem told. She needs to made an example of so people do not think it is okay to tell devastating lies.

sule   May 28th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

typical he said ,she said whatever makes you happy type of politics.
Instead of defending righ and left, they need to learn to defend needs of the people and the truth.
We have bigger problems than this what a waste of time.

Will   May 28th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Ok, Why is it that your show tell us a story is comming up and you do several other story and then come back and say the story is comming up and then do serveral other stories. You are starting to turn me off on the show, among other things. Stop it please, if the story is comming up than don't mention until it's comming up next!

jona   May 28th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

I don't think there is anyone on TV today that is as poorly developed as Sanchez with respect to being a fair, unbiased 'reporter'. I can not believe how stupid this guy is.. "Have you ever worn high heels?" or whatever his stupid question was to Tancredo..

And Sanchez you goof.. you don't think that belonging to LaRaza is an indicator of anything?

What a schmuck. What an amateur. So poor..

But you do fit perfectly on CNN.

Kathy   May 28th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

a person can not be judged on a few words taken out of context. the right is very good at that, why is cnn & Rick S. doing the same thing?

Pebbles   May 28th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Judge Sotomayor should bring her background with her, who wouldn't or couldn't.

She should bring her life experience, as an hispanic woman, with her and make judgment based on those experiences along with the federal law.

Please remember there is a vast difference, sometimes, between law and justice. I believe she realizes that, and that is why these issues are evolving now.

JB   May 28th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Rick, the "experiences" comment that Sotomayor made DOES NOT justify it. If a white man said this adding the "experiences" aspect to the quote, you would be going nuts. Now, what is the difference? The difference is, who is saying it, and what race are they saying it about. The experiences she is identifying are specific to her race and her gender. And she believes that her gender and race gave her those experiences. This is not pathetic (like the media matters guy claims). Would hispanics ask to see the context if a white guy said a similar thing about hispanic females? NO. Hispanics would be going crazy. And your spiked heel comment is absurd. Judges are blind to gender and race (or at least they are supposed to) and not have empathy for a particular group. Alito was wrong, and as far as I am concerned, should be reprimanded as well. I do not want a judge making decisions that could be different based on gender or race. Do you? If you were a reporter, you would acknowledge the inappropriateness of her comment.

Jerry Jacksonville, Fl.   May 28th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Why don't you idiots that report the news put out all that Sotomayor says instead of just a portion that makes her look like she is off base, you guys are doing this just to have a damn story, get off the lady's back and quite having jerks like Limbaugh, Gingrich and a few of the other idiot republicans express their views that are about as dumb as anything can be. They can't argue the entire context of the statement so they pick a little bit that the media puts out to argue, I don't guess they're smart enough to look at the entire statement.

jay   May 28th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

rick. i love when you tell us whats coming up before the break......come back and do a 20 second report then tell us whats coming up next and take another break....great t.v......cnn really does have in depth reporting....since i started this email you have gone on two commercial breaks....Annoying

Boni Kennelly   May 28th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

I am a 76 yr old white woman and I agree with the newly nominated judge.....No matter what context she said it in. The elephants are grasping for straws............

Windsor   May 28th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

wow! people

this is America freedom of speech. I think an educated person should

understand what Sotomayor met , I barely speak any English and I understand what she met, people hear what they want white, black and any other race out there.
give the lady a break you are all racist it takes one to know one

lonnie   May 28th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

rush to the gutter-( i like that )

know matter what decision is made by the supreme court, no decision is made by a lone justice is there?

Roger Beaton   May 28th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Rick, If it were not that you and others would overlook Sotomayor, racist leanings in order to have a Latino on the Supreme Court, would you be so willing to reinterpret her words? Others have saids, and I agree, if she were a white person, she would have been gone-yesterday. I, sure there are many Latino women and men who would, lacking Sotomayor's racist views , availabe to serve admirably on the Supreme Court.

ROLF GARVENS   May 28th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

CubanMom   May 28th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Rove is a schmuck, why is anyone talking to him?

Ragin' Cajun, we love you, James Carville!

Ana G.   May 28th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

As for the two not playing nice, I can agree with JB the whole process of politics has become like two sports teams and it is disgusting. I at one time wanted to get into politics until I took a Political Science class and was working on a research paper about sensorship and the media in politics. That is when I first learned about Mr. Karl Rove's doing on the Valerie P. issue. WOW! I won't even go their. All the negativity that goes on between these two groups needs to be set aside and get to chase of the problems our society is dealing with. In other words: GET OVER IT! Just do your job,. Who cares who is in office anymore. Now, as a Puerto Rican woman myself, I would like to just say good luck to Mrs. Montemayor and all of you out their who find a way to put her words in a different context by excluding the actual words in her speach that made the majority of her speach itself shame on you. Sounds like either a sexism trip or racial trip on your behalf. Just as your guest talked about Judge Alito, is it because she is a woman. Come on now who are you fooling, thanks Rick for keeping it real and showing the words of the speach that made more sense other than that trash those guys are trying to degrade her with.

Bob   May 28th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

Rick, after watching the segment about the state police and the emt and listening to your coments, I realized why I don't like to watch you. You are as far left as Fox is far right. You play a very short piece of footage, along with some sound and then monday quarter back the event. You don't know why the officer did what he did, except from a video from a cell phone.I'm sure the recording was not running when the incident first started, but was turned on half way through it. I guess it's great entertainment for those who you play to, which is limited, I'm sure. I guess you are the far lefts answer to the far right. I will just change the station and come back at 4:00 pm and watch Wolff Blitzer. Now that's an informational reporter.

Michelle   May 28th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

It is about "perspective"...every single one of us has a unique perspective based on our life experiences. It defines us as individuals. It changes the way we think through issues. A white man and a latina woman DO see the world from different perspectives. A conservative and a liberal see the world from different perspectives. We all do. That is not racism. That is a fact.

Preventing equal opportunities based on the color of one's skin is racism. Since more than half of our Supreme Court justices are already white men, no one disputes that they have enjoyed the opportunity to bring their perspectives to the court. Sotomayor is clearly qualified. She sees things from a latina's perspective...and a little diversity would be nice!

-one white woman's perspective

Tom Lane / Las Vegas Nevada   May 28th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

Question for the head of the Oklahoma highway patrol:
Why send three overly aggressive highway patrolmen to the site of
a routine ambulance call?

Or phrasing it another way:
How many dim-witted Oklahoma troopers does it take to turn a routine medical emergency into a police brutality situation?
Answer: One to choke and two to point fingers .

JB   May 29th, 2009 8:45 am ET

Michelle, I respectfully disagree with your interpretation of what she said. First, interpretations have never meant anything in the past in these situations, it is the statement that gets held to scrutiny. Second, lets do some dissecting of the quote

The richness of a female hispanics experiences enable her to MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, come to a BETTER CONCLUSION than a white male. Translation female hispanics make better decisions than white males. It is a clear case of racism. As I said before, the ONLY reason people like Rick are dismissing it is because it is being perpetrated against a white guy, and people don't believe white people need defending from racism. I understand the distinction, however, we as a country cannot justify racism based on those involved, let alone, allow a potential SJC to say it and not have to explain or apologize. We cannot just poo poo this away, but, my guess Wolf and Rick will. Of course, if Sotomayor had an R next to her name, I am sure things would be different.

Matthew Demers   May 29th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

I am so EXHAUSTED by the Media Coverage involving the second-guessing of our former elected officials! How many Liberals/Conservatives would not have had the opportunity to voice their opinions on ANY issue in the present time, had Former President Truman decided to with-hold the use of the Atom bombs over Japan to close WWII? History will be made regardless of individual Political Views...I sure hope that History will be made in the BEST INTEREST of the U.S. of A. as a WHOLE, and not in the select and selfish agendas of ANY Special Interest Groups.

Marie Harvey   May 29th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Rick, in all my 80 years I have never seen such poor losers! Reminds me of 3 year olds having a snit over toys. And the Republicans actually think anyone will EVER respect the party again???? I think NOT.

Lori   May 29th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Tom Delay should go to jail for what he did to manipulate to voting district lines in Texas. Therefore, I think he has no credibility in regard to an opinion if Judge Sotomayor is qualified.

jerry   May 29th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

CNN, take that "clown" Rick Sanchez and put him in the mail room. He is so bias in his questions, and he "baits" people until they say something that he can use as a racist comment. He defintely has an agenda and it's not fair and balanced. Go ahead Rick, ask me if I'm a racist. I'll answer that with a simple question to you. Would you ask me that question if I were a minority? I could be bolth, but I'm not. You are not a joufrnalist. You are a sensationlist using any method available to climb the corporfate ladder and get viewers for a network that has turned from relatively good one to a patheticl example of journalism.

Mark R.   May 29th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Rick, Let me say at the outset, that you're an inspiration to people of every concievable ethnic background. I know you'll do your homework, and once you do, you'll see the NCLR is nothing more than the "Sinn Fein" of the Mexican immigration movement. Which brings me to another pet peeve of mine: -Isn't it unfair to stick all South/Central/Carribean-American emigres with a label as restricting as "Latino"? If for no other reason than the sheer diversity of hispanic peoples? Allowing everyone to be pigeonholed or lumped into one dark category just gives groups (like NCLR) a platform on which to piggyback a largely hidden agenda.

jeff hughes   May 29th, 2009 9:23 pm ET

James Carville is and always has been nothing but a bully. He thinks his opion is gospel and shouts down anyone who dares to disagree.
One cannot debate him, one must ignore him or get in the mud with him. His style reminds me of Jesse Jackson. Lie, confuse, anger, and bluff. Argue with him and prove the old proverb. Is he or you an idiot?

Linda   June 1st, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Bullfighting is one of the most cowardly and despicable "sports" ever practiced. I think they should stick the Matador with a few spikes and then send him out to "fight" a bull. Good for the goose, good for the gander.

sonny   June 9th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

I really think we've heard enough about Bush..Hasn't that man done enough damage to this country and others as well..President Obama is now left to clean up the enormous MESS Bush has left this country in. Buch never cared about the american citizen. He cared only for the rich. We really need to let Obama get this country back on track and stop playing in the political sand box. We all know that any monkey could have done the job Bush did.

howard   June 12th, 2009 9:12 am ET

The Bush administration was doing great with the economy up until the democrats took over congress. Down hill after that. And any mess that they gave the new president he has managed to quadruple already. The liberals brought on the "Housing Crisis" that kicked off the current recession by forcing the banks to give out bad loans. If liberals had their way, the Islamic fanatics would be in control of Iraq today. I agree that we should lay off Bush. Thanks for keeping us safe Georgie Boy.

Elon, NYC   June 12th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

BORRRRRRING! I aint going to lie they both scary lookin'

Joe Shea   June 12th, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Why isn't the Jewish hate speech in the Max Blumenthal video all over the news? I think it's absolute hypocrisy to hear CNN going on about James von Brunn while ignoring the issue in their own house.
I'm referring to the "Feeling the Hate" video by Max Blumenthal that ran and was killed on the Huffington Post, Jerusalem Post and Drudgre report. They call Obama a "n****r," "terrorist," "f*****t," "Muslim" and other unmentionables.
How is it that no Americans stand up for our President when he's insulted in this way?

Lewis   June 13th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

From the Great White North

Up here in Ontario we don't talk about Socialised Medicine, we Just have a plastic card that we show at the doctor's or at the hospital...it's our Ohip card and it's free to residents of Ontario.
January 2007 I was feeling tired and my wife called 911.
At the hospital I was diagnosed with Heart Problems and I would be lucky to make through the day.
Anyway I was transfered a week later to Toronto General Hospital where it was determined I would have a better chance of survival. After a few weeks of getting fit enough to be operated on I finally had a Triple Bypass and Valve repair.
After going home I required a further week in Hospital.
In the following weeks and months I had great back up from nurses and doctors.
In November I was again admitted to hospital and had defibrilator/pacemaker implanted.
I am monitored from the lohal Heart Function Clinic and Cardiac Rehab Center.
I watch commercials on US TV decrying 'Socialised Medicine', well folks I don't have a clue what my medical care cost, I know it cost a lot. Thanks to my little plastic OHIP card I am still alive two and a half years later and Happy to still be here.
Why don't you Americans wake up, your health is really the only thing that matters and we all need to support each other.
Don't believe the Bulls*t about poor healthcare in Canada.
Do it Obama
Have a good life,
Lewis
