Hi Rick

I love your show and I have a comment on this whole Notre Dame issue. During the general election didn't the district in Indiana that Nortre Dame is in overwhelmingly vote for President Obama and ultimately help him win the state of Indiana. If thats the case Why all the sudden are they all the sudden changing their ideals now after they knew his stance on abortion at election time. I really think this whole issue is just a few people who are angry at the results of the general election trying to cause trouble. I am a practicing Catholic and though I don't agree with all the Presidents morals I am willing to work with him on the issues we do agree on, like stopping unwanted pregancy altogether. If we can solve this issue the arguement of prochoice verses prolife would never even have to be an issue.

Thank you

Jose Rodriguez   May 14th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

Rick

Nanci Pelosi has embarrased me and every democrat on her lack of action on waterboarding. If she saying the truth them she should take a polygraph test to probe it. She is doing too much justification on herself. She should admitted her mistak mistake and drive on. She needs to stop looking for power and become a congress woman by helping to fix our economy. We are not stupid. It very clear to me,she is lying, is time for new leadership. Since democrat took over the congress nothing has been accomplished other than complaining about Bush. Elections are over and is time to fix the economyv, is time to stop complaining or justifing herself. What are they waiting. STOP COMPLAINING

Economy,Social Security and Health Reform is more important than WATERBOARDING. Nancy Pelosi Stop what you doing and help my country, otherwise move out and let somebody else take your place

Rick,
What were they thinking when they took the Sgt's weapon away and kept him in a hostile environment. Three tours in the area and now he can't defend himself. They did the same thing in Viet Nam. Active duty Air Force security Policemen were not authorized to carry weapons when they were off duty. If we left the base we unarmed. Naturally not many left the base. If the Sgt is not fit to carry a weapon, then he is not fit to remain in a combat zone. He didn't kill the soldier he got the weapon and jeep from. Something to think about.

Meg   May 14th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

Rick–
I don't see a problem with the president speaking at Notre Dame. I think that this controversy is so ridiculous. There is no speaker's law that says a guest orator has to agree with all the philosophies of the place that he or she is speaking. It seems to me that there are some people who need to get a life–there are so many things that need our time and energy much more than this.

larry d   May 14th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

RICK, LET'S SEE YOU SAY IF A REPUBLICAN DOES SOMETHING ILLEGAL AND A DEMACRATE KNOWS ABOUT IT'S NOT ILLEGAL?

Emily   May 14th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Rick...
I just cannot believe that once again, the media is playing into the Republicans' AGE OLD TACTIC of creating diversions in order to take the focus off of their own responsibility and criminal activity in the case of water-boarding... Who cares what Pelosi knew, when she knew it and what she did about it...The fact is...the entire premise of the war was misleading, as was the the issue regarding the legality of intrrogation techniques. Though I am sure Pelosi is honest in her decree that she is oppossed to the practice, she has never been in a position of power to stop it...especially when an entire presidential administration basically lied about it being legal. Like it or not congress has to live with many laws thay probably find disgusting and morally reprehensable, but can only change it through ligitation, which Pelosi did by helping to reshape congress and the white house. Like her or not...get on the real issue...talk about the actual people that engaged in such activities and the actual people that broke the law.

Again, way to go on giving Cheney and the Republicans the distraction they were looking for???

Donald, NV   May 14th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

I think someone is confused:
The honor is not being bestowed by Notre Dame upon the President of the United States of America.
The President of the United States of America will be honoring Notre Dame & its students by speaking there.

rick hartley   May 14th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Rick, maybe someday the public will realize that the FAA does not have the flying public at the top of their concern. PATCO warned many years ago that the FAA could not be the (rule-enforcer) and the (promoter) at the same time. I would believe the cause of the accident was more a (crew) probllem, not trained properly and not tested properly by the FAA. I am a retired FAA controller/supervisor, that is still involved in Air Traffic and watching the system continue to fail scares the hell out of me.

angelo agro   May 14th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Hey Rick, I want to know what a 24 yr old co-pilot is doing in the cockpit of that Plane. How much experience can a 24 yr old pilot have?

Ed Barrios   May 14th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Rick,
Give the N Pelosi a rest on the waterboarding. It's a red herring, who cares, the most important thing she said – that you missed – was that it wouldn't have made a difference. Do you or anyone in this country think that if she had protested it would have stopped the Bush administration. I agree she did a bad job in her press conference – embarrassing for an experienced politician. But the bottom line is there are so many more important issues – MOVE ON.

Marcelo Didier   May 14th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Hey Rick, I am trying to figure out if you expect us to believe that you are looking for the "truth" or just trying to pin crap on Bush/Cheney? At least you are not trying to "protect" Pelosi's irrational politics....

Just think ahead to the time when you will be talking about the impeachment of Obama for overstepping his constitutional authority, using fear-mongering to stampede Congress into approving trillions of (phony) money and bankrupting this nation. Welcome to the transition to the "Third World".... just like back home in Cuba Libre!

Jaylee   May 14th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Rick,... why are you so upset over Nancy Pelosi's statement??
Dana Bash was abrasive in her questioning, she did not allow M's Pelosi to finish with her answer before interrupting her again and again!! Very rude!
I found she was trying to give an exact and distinct answer, however she was unable to finish each time. ...
How about allowing people to answer before walking over them with your own opinions!!!

GreT of ID   May 14th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Rick:

Wait a minute...back the wagon up...take yourself back 6 years. What would have happened (and did, in fact, happen) to those who disagreed with the Bush administration regarding the war effort. They would have been (and were) labeled as unAmerican, unPatriotic and putting America at risk. The Bush administration created an atmosphere of such fear (using lies and deception) that very few politicians could have objected in any meaningful way that would have changed anything. The White House at that time had everything so clamped down that the truth could not have been found by turkey buzzards if it had dead meat wrapped around it . Move on!!! Pelosi is not the problem. The problem is that torture was used to gain access to information that the White House used to justify the war to the American people...information that turned out to the untrue. We should be bearing down on Bush and Cheney...not Pelosi (spelling?)!!!!

Allen   May 14th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Where is Dana Bash and her husband Mr. King when President Bush, DIck Cheney, and the rest of the administration when they were lying their ###es off to the country and assuring us that the U.S. did not torture? I as an American will take Nancy Pelosi's words to be true that a bunch of proven manipulators and liers. All Dick Cheney and his cronies are looking for now is, "How many people can they implicate in order to forstall the impending investigation?" As a Democrat and a Liberal, I was not completely in favor of any investigation before. However, I now say let the investigation begin. We need to get to the bottom of this frigging mess.

Donald, NV (again)   May 14th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Concerning Nancy Pelosi:
She's lying about not knowing about extreme interrogation techniques. Watch her expressions while she speaks on the subject.
When I was in the Air Force in the early 1960s, we were told in our escape and evasion classes that torture was not a way to get reliable information. We were told to hold out as long as we could, and to tell believable lies.
Also, what was her motivation to say that the impeachment of george w. bush was "off the table"? He and dick cheney were the ultimate driving forces behind the interrogation techniques.
Boil them all in oil.

Franz Asenbeck   May 14th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Rick,
I am a 2008 EMBA graduate from Notre Dame and I am catholic. I don't see an issue with Obama receiving the honor doctor degree and speak at the commencement. But then, I am German and see this probably a little bit different than my American friends.

Dee in Florida   May 14th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

The world would be a MUCH better place if every Tom, Dick and Harry with some religious agenda would just shut up!

I just do not see how anyone can justify a protest against Obama speaking. I seriously doubt he is going to talk about abortion or any other hot topic for the Catholic Church. In fact, I am willing to bet he is not even going to touch on the scandals of priests who have sexually abused young people (male AND female).

RJ   May 14th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Pelosi while shes just as guilty as the Bush Administration for allowing this war in the first place. She is right that she was not informed of all things just as were the rest of democrat congressman! Bush`s cronies should be behind bars! They never made it safer in this country, thats one of the big fat lies they have been telling the American people. Both Cheney and Bush dodged their committments to the military when they needed them,it was simply something that they thought ought to be fought by lesser people! Its funny how John Kerry was made to look like the bad soldier when in fact it was those two who were spineless to hold up their end of the deal!

Dave   May 14th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Hi Rick :
Hope all is well...
The flight should have been grounded due to the ice-wind.
My family had a flight from Newark on the same day- same hour + -
but was grounded due to ice -high wind. The flight was to Bangor, Maine, thank GOD the flight was grounded they drove to Maine safely and enjoyed Christmas....
The airline is responsible.
Sorry to say =you get what you pay for- Sorry for your loss-airline pays low so they can make some money:
We as the flying public need to know who is flying the plane before we get on the plane. We need a law to help us be safe. We need a profile on the Captain-Co-pilot with a status of his mental health -rest and ability to fly. We want to know that when we fly we are in good hands and safe so that we can make a intelligent not to fly. If an airline refuses to confly =LETS BOYCOTT.
Thank you,
Dave from Princeton, NJ USA

Mary Lyn Reitz   May 14th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

If waterboarding is torture, then I don't care if it is a democrat or republican who knew, the issue should be... was it legal or not.

If it is not legal, then make our elected officials responsible. We elected our representatives, we require them to uphold the law, we must hold them responsible. It is not an option.

I am sick of the political chatter that confuses the issues and allow responsible behavior to slip through the cracks and allows the laws of this country to be mocked.

Gary Purdum   May 14th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Rick, with regards to your "person next door to a burning house" analogy – your culpability becomes greater if you happen to be a fireman who lives next door and fail to aid the homeowner. Pelosi, as a member of Congress and with access to intelligence data, was the "fireman" and she fiddled while our house burned to the ground! She can tap dance all she wants, but she is as guilty as anyone in the Bush administration.

English   May 14th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Rick, Nancy Palosie needs to tell the truth and move on. She needs to stop blaming everyone, she knew and wont admit it. Who cares anyway! It got results and we havent been bombed again.
As for your breaking news, that the CIA/Bush administration were using this issue to promote the Irac War, MIS INFORMATION, put out to change the subject. We are just not that stupid, if you think we are going to believe this new distraction...I dont think so!

Eddy   May 14th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Hey, Rick... Im a democrat as much as anyone else and my views tend to be on "their" side of the fence. But I cannot stand pelosi because of her actions in the last few years even her actions under the Bush Administration. Shes overly partisan and views the world in a narrow hole. This should end her political career...

Mark Foote   May 14th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Hi, Rick,
The real question in the Nancy Pelosi brou-haha is why we have an organization (the CIA) that consistently lies to not only our elected leaders, but the American people in general. What got us into Vietnam and Iraq? Case closed.
Mark in Petaluma, CA

Marcelo Didier   May 14th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Vicente Fox and Ricardo Sanchez are obsessed with "immigration"... so here is a question to make you think.. since illegals are mostly Latinos, especially Mexicans...

If the pre-1965 country-quota system was discriminatory because it favored (white) Europeans, then the current system is DE FACTO DISCRIMINATION since it clearly favors Mexicans/latinos?

PS: this whole scandal is bi-national corruption:

a) affirmative action for Mexico
b) importation of uneducated future citizens who overwhelmingly vote DEMOCRATIC

Vince   May 14th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

On Pelosi: She was no good then and she is no good now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She needs to go.

ruth rolle   May 14th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

rick, please have yourself and viewers rent the documentary named Standard Operation Procedure by errol morris. saw it twice and can't believe how the soldiers are put in jail for what the CIA did behind close doors without the soldiers knowing what was going on. what happened to the dead body the special forces killed. nobody is really seeing what has gone on.

Russ   May 14th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Rick,
Police Officers are trained to tell a suspect to "look away" when they catch a suspect or a suspect "gives up" and is laying on the ground. They do this for Officer safety reasons. They make the suspect look away so the suspect can not get an angle on the Officer and assault or kill the Officer. The video shows the officer coming from the suspects right side, the officers uses force to get the suspect to look the other direction. If you notice in the video that the officer kicked him one time on the right side of the face. The suspect then looked the other way. If the officer was just wanting to use excessive force on the suspect he would have continued to kick the suspect!!!!
Thanks,

David Andres   May 14th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Rick,
I watched your show today on the pilots not getting required rest before flying. On all the talk shows I watch during the week / news. No network ever does a show on truck drivers and the rest they don't get. And most of the time it's not the driver's fault.
The shipper or receiver / Broker are the ones to blame a lot of times.
Why, Because a driver is only allowed to drive 11 hours and 3 hours standby per a 24 hour day when running out of State. Then the driver must take 10 hours off in a sleeper or in a Motel. What happens is a broker will give a load to a trucking company to move. And the driver will sit 4 – 6 hours or longer waiting to load. And after the truck is loaded the shipper will tell the driver he must deliver this load by a certain time which the driver does not have the hours to make it on time.
So the driver then has to drive over his hours, And he / she gets little or no sleep on that run. That puts the public in danger having this truck on the road with a driver not getting the proper rest required by law.
Truckers are only on the news when something bad happens.
They should be on more to let the public know what is going on in the trucking industry. So when something does go wrong they then know the rest of the story.
I sure hope one day this will happen on your show. But at this point we would like it on any network.

Thanks for listening.

Daryl Johnson   May 14th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

stop strining viewers along. yiusay you will do a story, then run in 5 ads, another story, 5 more ads etc. this goes on for 15-20 minutes.
enough!

Celticlady   May 14th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

Hey, Rick! Whats the problem for the Republicans??? Is it getting too hot in the kitchen of Public opinion for them? In 2003, Pres. Bush and the Republicans had total control of the congress and the military policy. And it was Bush and Cheney et. al who made the decisions for dealing with terrorists... And after 9/11 anybody who disagreed with them was in danger of being found to be "UnAmerican", and of being wire-tapped or being accused of being either a traitor or an accomplice.

Thank God we are now handling things in a more sane and calmer manner than during that time.

And even if Nancy Pelosi found out something of what was going on, what could she do as just one Democratic Representative against the entire Bush/Cheney Republican machine??? Lets get real, shall we?!

John   May 14th, 2009 6:19 pm ET

Randall Terry discussing President Obama's planned visit to Notre Dame shows why religion and government should be separated. Religious zealots like Mr. Terry do not stand for my views.

Ed Kiyler   May 14th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

Rick
I would like to know why you are bias against law enforcement? You seem to delight showing the bad things they do, (keep showing them), however how about showing some of good things they do?
Ed

Elizabeth Rollins   May 15th, 2009 10:03 am ET

I have a question. President Obama has taken a stand on stem cell and abortion because he is doing what the masses want and he feels is right for us as a whole nation. There is a reason why church and state seperation was brought about.

I am sure if you ask him personlly, he does not like abortion, he probably feels it is wrong and does not want his girls to do it. BUT he is the PRESIDENT and HAS to do what is GOOD for ALL of us and not what is told to him by religion.

Please make this point for me.

The college must not have much confidenance in the students or Catholics if he is afraid of the most intellegnt of men to come to this college.

sheryl   May 15th, 2009 11:12 am ET

The hypocritical and selective memory of all those who are in opposition to President Obama’s participation in the Notre Dame graduation ceremony is that they all tacitly approved of the ABORTION of innocent young boys who were in mass and repeatedly rape by many in the clergy of the Catholic church. The killing of an innocent life happens in more ways than in the mother’s womb. they ALL stood by ON MUTE while these little innocent children’s lives were being ABORTED, decimated by these evil, sick, demented, grown men, wolves in sheep clothing. NOT ONE of those who are in opposition to President Obama’s speaking at Notre Dame stood in opposition to these MONSTERS called ministers, NOT ONE descended on any Catholic institution in vociferous, outrage protest with their photographic placards of little boys being RAPED, their lives being ABORTED. now, these “holier than thou hypocrites” are raising up in protest, boycotting, marching, getting arrested. yeah, right, they care about innocent lives, where were they when those little boys needed them to care, to stand up and fight for them against those evil bastards that were hiding behind their holy garbs all the while silently destroying innocent lives! THAT’S WHAT MAKES THEIR OPPOSITION TO PRESIDENT OBAMA’S PARTICIPATION AT NOTRE DAME SO DAMN HYPOCRITICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mail Man   May 15th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

Hey Rick, im a Black man who see's racism as it is. and i give people the benifit of the doubt but by this school trying to stand up and try to make a point about something that is media hyped and has nothing to do with none of the problems we face as a country is kinda strange......

ps: didnt prez. bush speak there....... is it racism Rick

JJ from NJ   May 15th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

I believe Candy Crowley did a piece that bolstered Notre Dame's hypocrisy since they have honored former presidents that support the death penalty.

Patrick Keough   May 15th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

I don't understand why there is a problem with Obama speaking at Notre Dame, he spoke at Georgetown.

Maria   May 15th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Hi T.J.

I just want to let you know that you are doing a great job covering for Rick,
but I always watch you on the weekend with Betty and I just love you guys.
Today I think you look so handsome and you are so handsome every day, but I think you skin and makeup looks wonderful. I've sent you a few comments before and please send me an e-mail if you can, just to say hello and that you got this e-mail. Keep up the good work and your great smile.
Maria

Melissa   May 15th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

I've heard some Notre Dame students take offense to the President speaking at their Catholic institution becaue he is non-Catholic and pro-choice. First, I don't understand why the anti-choice movement doesn't understand that pro-choice does NOT equal pro-abortion. It's just the recognition that we are part of a secular nation in which everyone is not obligated to think the same. I am pro-choice, but ANTI-abortion. I don't want the government to be able to tell me what I can or cannot do with MY body. Second, Notre Dame doesn't seem to have a problem with all those Catholic and non-Catholic athletes it employs, I mean recruits; I'm sure they are not all anti-abortion. Maybe that should be a screening question for future student athletes, or would that not be desireable for some reason?

Serge Morel   May 15th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Hi Rick
Maybe we should allow Cheyney to have some Waterboardings sessions...He might confess that he misleaded everybody...I only wonder if he would confess after 100 or 200 sessions???

Serge Morel   May 15th, 2009 4:57 pm ET

So Notre Dame isn't please with the visit of the President of the United State!!! I always tought that the Church was Universal!! Maybe I was wrong! Seems to me that we missed the 21th century by entering in religious wars!!! Welcome to the middle ages!!!
Lets all be slaugther on the altar of Faith!!!" While hunger, poverty and deseases are killing millons every month!! So what?? My God is better than your God!!! You know what...may be its time to have a new world!!
In wicth the live of one child is more important than Notre Dame and the church.

Robert   May 15th, 2009 5:49 pm ET

I believe that Cardinal Francis George comment about Norte Dame's decision to invite President Obama was disappointing. He must have forgotten the golden rule of not throwing stones when you live in a glass house. Does this mean that the Catholic Church forgot what it meant to be Catholic when it protected pedophiles and obstructed their prosecution?

Linda Alves   May 15th, 2009 9:04 pm ET

Terry admitted–with pride–that he protested Obams's visit by going on to the Notre Dame campus with a stroller conaining a baby doll covered in stage blood? That's just GROSS! Somehow I just can't picture Jesus doing something that disgusting–no matter what kind of a point he wanted to make.

PS I love your show Rick. You make my day!

Rudy H'ypolite   May 15th, 2009 11:01 pm ET

There is nothing wrong with the president being honored, im catholic I believe its a womens choice point blank. There are many other faiths that Americans practice and what should they do be forced to follow the catholic church. Question, so Notre Dame won't give a non catholic a degree?

Arnold Coby   May 16th, 2009 8:57 am ET

Here’s a laugh.
Antoniette Santopadre of Valley Stream was expecting a $250 stimulus check. But when her son finally opened it, they saw that the check was made out to her father, Romolo Romonini, who died in Italy 34 years ago. He'd been a U.S. citizen when he left for Italy in 1933, but only returned to the United States for a seven-month visit in 1969.
The Santopadres are not alone. The Social Security Administration, which sent out 52 million checks, says that some of those checks mistakenly went to dead people because the agency had no record of their death. That amounts to between 8,000 and 10,000 checks for millions of dollars.
The feds blame a rushed schedule, because all the checks have to be cut by June. The strange thing is, some of the checks were made out to people - like Romonini - who were never even part of the Social Security system. This is the Government who want to run our Healthcare System. You have to be kidding me!!

Purple Spider   May 16th, 2009 9:13 am ET

It appears that those involved in making decisions and considering the strong religion of Notre Dame, are not dedicated to the Catholic ways. They are to blame for causing the upheaval amongst students regarding the presence of Obama. The students believe in the church doctrine and are protesting Obama's Abortion and Stem Cell Research direction. It is unfortunate that this situation has turned into unrest.

Dan   May 16th, 2009 10:23 am ET

The hypocrisy of some catholics is astounding. They cover up molestations by the clergy, but are publicly intolerant of a President with a opposing position on abortion? It seems that catholics need to shed some of their hypocrisy and care more for people already on the earth. They failed to object to the holocaust, where millions of innocents were killed, and are now bent on intolerance. Don't they follow their own teachings? What about turning the other cheek? What about forgiveness? What about loving your fellow man? The catholic church didn't object to Clinton speaking at Notre Dame, even though he is pro-choice? Pardon me, but all the evidence points to bigotry in the Catholic church. They need to stop their self-righteousness until they "heal thyself."

Brandon from Ft. Worth   May 16th, 2009 11:22 am ET

I didnt know that the only commandment of Catholics and Christianity was to make sure that no one has abortion and gays dont get married. By focusing on small moral issues this school has forgotten about helping the poor, helping the sick, and peace. Im not sure of what Pres. have spoken there before but Romans 3: 23 says "for all have sinned and came short of the glory of God" You hate to say rascism but why cant we hold this Pres under the same microscope as the rest. It seems he has already kept more campaign promises than previous. So lets allow him to do his job and learn to compromise.

Brandon from Ft. Worth   May 16th, 2009 11:28 am ET

Last time I checked abortions have been going on for some time now even during the previous Pres he might not of liked it but it was still going on. So how does Obama become the face of an medical procedure that has been going on for some time now

Doreen Powers   May 16th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

The rules of Notre Dame & it’s guidelines were ignored. The Bishop and the churches opinions & guidelines ignored. The Notre Dame hierarchy should be fired. They have ruined a lifetime memory for these graduates. Brought in a public microscope and took the pride away from the graduates, it is their EARNED day. Instead they have brought a soulless traitor in and “will give him a ND degree” That is the salt in the wound. These people are said to have earned their positions at Notre Dame have also earned their own dismissal. May God Forgive their ignorance and betrayal of the graduates and their families. The shame is clearly on the shoulders of Norte Dame Universities caretakers.

Ted   May 16th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

I think this protest over the President speaking is ridiculous. He is President of the United States of America, not the Catholic States of America. He is not catholic and disagrees with the church on choice. I am sure Bush would have been welcomed had he been invited, even though he shredded the Constitution, and caused thousands to be killed in an unnecessary war in Iraq, used torture to justify it and lied to all of us. But he's pro-life, so all sins are forgiven.
We are supposed to have freedom of religion in this country. These people apparently want everyone to be catholic.

Ted   May 16th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

Why is there such an uproar over what Pelosi knew and when she knew it? She was powerless to stop a policy, legal or not, implemented by a coequal branch of government. What was she supposed to do, try to cut funding for it? She could not say anything as it was a classified brief. She had to keep her mouth shut.
Why is Porter Goss not on the hot seat? He was Chairman and he did nothing either. I am not sure what, if anything, could have been done. This is a Bush policy and probably crime. Trying to blame anyone else is just political hypocrisy. .

Philip Galindo   May 16th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

As a Christian and former catholic I am opposed to Notre Dame Universities decision to honor Barrack Obama with an honorary degree. Obama's consistent support to Planned Parenthood and abortion rights are an affront to the pro life position of the catholic church, christian values, and the rights of the unborn. The University should immediately rescind its decision to give Obama a platform at the University as well as the honory degree. Both acts are shamefull acts for a catholic university and will tarnish the university and the church for years to come.

Ron Watson   May 16th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

As a Catholic Theologian, from Muncie, IndianaI have to say Notre Dame's response to President Obama is saddening. To not want to allow the leader of the free world to speak merely because his views differ from that of the Church is a testament to the Victorian mentality in which the Church is mired.
The president is not going to attempt to change Catholic morality or it's views on abortion or stem-cell research. He will be there to give a send-off to it's graduates; all of whom are not of the Catholic faith (nor are they required to agree with the Church's views in order to attend).
The Church under John Paul II was tolerant of opposing views and worked hard to heal the wounds of political, religious and moral diversity; under Benedict, it is reverting to the old ways.
However, the pope would not reject a visit to Rome by President Obama and sadly, Notre Dame would not have a problem with this man spending his money on a football ticket! What a world we live in...

Brian   May 16th, 2009 6:39 pm ET

Why isn't there more time invested in birth control and less in abortion laws? I am somewhat surprised this hasn't came up. I think this could be an possible solution for both sides to think on.

Pat Johnson   May 16th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

Hi Rick,

Well, it looks like the traditional Catholics are coming out of the woodwork.... I thought even the teachings of christ were to be tolerant, and forgiving of all people. Goes to show, that even in todays society, If we were still throwing stones, there would be rock piles everywhere, and d.b.'s "dead bodies" lying everywhere!

thanks rick, keep up the good work!

george bush supported the death penalty, both wars in the middle east & torture all were denounced by the pope, what's the problem?

NoCoDad   May 18th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

President Obama should not have been harassed at Notre Dame. The Catholic church has no high ground to preach from. Where is all of this pro-life fervour when it comes to the whole torture issue? Where was all of this righteous indignation when we were being scammed into a war whose real purpose was to steal another nation's natural resources? This is a war where men in their 50s and 60s are being sent into combat zones. We are sending our grandparents in to b slaughtered. These so-called Catholics need to shut up and spend a little time in front of a mirror.

amber   May 18th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

so many people were arrested for saying their option. What happened to freedom of speech.

Tim   May 18th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

I just dont understand y some people when it boil's down to it dont like somene because they r black

James P   May 18th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Obama shows no weakness, that's what makes him such a great president.

The people at Notre Dame are so one-minded they couldn't even hear his full view on abortion.

Tim   May 18th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

I hate to say it but there is always going to be racisim and it is a shame. the things that different races can learn from each other if we as a people can stop looking at a persons skin and making judgements on people before u get to know them

NoCoDad   May 18th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

I wonder how much of the $1.4 billion dollars made yearly by the adoption industry ends up in the Catholic treasury. Is it enough to offset the growing legal costs of the pedophile priests who saturate the Catholic clergy? Let's face it it, if we stop having illegitimate babies then the adoption industry will have a harder time getting it's supplies. These are supplies that it gets for next to nothing and then makes immense profits on. The fact that these "supplies" are human babies doesn't seem to bother the glorified pimps who are running this industry.. I guess it is fitting that the Catholic Church is heavily involved in this activity. It has a long history of putting greed over need.

sarah   May 19th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

I get so tried of men making decision on what I can do with my body. God is my judge, so get a life and do something with you boby and just maybe men can help women out by covering up what help make these unwanted babies.

Thank you for reporting on the abuse of special needs kids. My autistic son was isolated for 3 hours at 3 years old in a public school.
The teacher is STILL working at his school, in fact, she was promoted.

worry4USA   May 19th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

As for the Pelosi thing and all our elected officials there is an old saying, "you can tell when a politician is lying, their lips are moving".

worry4USA   May 19th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

As for the arrest of the child-it is scary to see the police attack on this boy of 14 years old. I think he was making a little fun of them by dancing in front of them and they got angry. Thay came back around and waited for their chance at him and took it. This country is fast evolving into a police state. They are militarily trained to react instead of think in a situation. They can become judge, jury, and exacutioner because they can choose to arrest or let you go at their descretion.

worry4USA   May 19th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

I think everyone should have medical care,I see the commercials being aired on T.V. about socialized medicine, how people are dying on a list to get treated. Well if you think there are not people dying here in the US for the same reason you are way out of touch with what really is going on, it happens here to. Socialized Medicine means everyone has access to medical care and doesn,t make millionairs out of doctores and big money for the drug companys. People get scard when they here Socialism, it desn't mean Communism. It is a way of life not government. It just makes me sick to see older citizens just making it and they have to buy extra insurance because Medicare don't cover their medical and durg bills. For crying out loud this is the U.S.A.! Stop making war, stop paying for other countries peace, stop rebuilding countries that brought war upon themselves. Bring that money home, rebuild our education system, rebuild our highways and bridges, give everyone health care. Make the lives of americans prosperous and happy again.

Fred   May 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

The five fired Birmingham officers should have been fired and now need aggressive prosecution and should be held to the highest standards for attempted murder, abuse of authority, criminal negligence and other charges! Any mitigation of induced rage should only be considered (if then) in the punishment phase…they are guilty on the prima facie evidence of the video of at least the aforementioned charges.

Who is paying the bill for the illegal wanting to see his parents?

Anita, CA   May 20th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Hi Rick, I hope the boy from Guatamala can see his parents before he passes away in death. As a Jehovah's Witness, I hope God's Kingdom comes soon so that these type of situations will finally be a thing of the past. Christ was right when he said that his "kingdom is no part of this world".

Anita, CA   May 20th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Hi Rick, I am deeply saddened by the soldier story. There are countless cases that war wrecks havoc on a soldiers mind. This is just another case to prove that point. Another reason why as a Jehovah's Witness, we are non-violent and politically neutral worldwide. Surprisingly, even among personality differences, these cases don't happen. I hope God's Kingdom comes soon for all.

Serge Morel   May 21st, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Hi Rick! I wonder..should a 15years old trowing a grenade at an invadind army be considered as a terrorist or as a freedom fighter!!! Not the invading army's freedom but his???

Julio Fortes   May 22nd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Warren Buffet said “Always live below your means”. This is a Multibilionaire speaking and this peace of information has always been available. So I wonder why so many people get in credit card debt, when we all know that we are using money that's not ours and has to be brought back to the original source.

larry d   May 27th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

RICK...SOMEONE SHOULDHAVE THE IRS CHECK THIS TEXAS BUNCH'S TAX RETURNS HINT HINT.

Talking about giving away money look into Wharton,Tx they do more than just give money away.

Ron   May 28th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Rick

Your show is quite good but your teasers drive me up the wall. I understand that CNN needs to make money but your program goes too far.

Bid Bakkar   June 3rd, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Rick
I love your show, so please let your guest speak and dont be a republican or just keep to your self , also let us be the ones who gives an opinion not you, just give us the news.
thank
Bid

John Taylor   June 3rd, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Why does CNN give so much airtime to the effluvia from Newt Gingrich? He has no position in government, no honorable history, and no platform from which to speak, except that which you provide gratis. You could also invite Rush whatever and the announcers from Fox to round out the self-serving, hate-mongering, chorus of people who really don't matter outside of their own households.

Dr. Lee Simmons   June 3rd, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Dear Rick:

I would not give Neut Gin-rich any credit for his back pedaling on Sonia S. because the only reason he changed it "partially" is somebody either rapped his skull with a 2 x 4 or showed him what a complete fool it made him look like himself. It did not change his position or his behind the scenes rhetoric.

As for Tom Delay I cannot believe you expected anything else than what you got. The man is an idiot..................

Serge Morel   June 4th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Hi Rick
Being a North American..I realy loved Pres Obama speach in Cairo. But I suddenly wondered how I would have reacted if I was a Palestinian who lived is entire life in a refugee camp like millions of others??
Should I tell my family that we will go back home shortly??
Even if I know that my property titles are useless since our home was destroyed and on what use to be our land...there's a Israelite town??
Should I tell my family to forget all the wrongdowings of the Occidental Countries and that as of now..they will repair everything and take care of us??
I wonder????

Dean Archer   June 4th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Dr. Tiller did not go out and hunt down thousands of babies and murder them in cold blood. Thousands of women came to Dr. Tiller and said: "I will pay you to kill my baby." Thousands of men said: "I don't need to wear a condum, if you get pregnant, you can always get an abortion. Free speech is a privilege that should not be abused by anti-abortion fanatics. Pro-Choice is a privilege that should not be abused by thoughtless and uncaring men and women.

Moderate Arab   June 4th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Rick,

President Obama has been speaking of a 2 state solution but almost all Palestinians and realists such as George Galloway believe that this solution is off the table. For a 2 state solution to work and the Palestinians to have their own independent state, Israel will have to dismantle all or most of the illegal Jewish settlement in the West Bank. This would be a big stride for the US as seen amongst all Arabs. But in the end, actions speak larger than words.

Now if Israel wants to be recognized as a legitimate state or country in the eyes of the Arab world, they will have to concede and dismantle all illegal settlements or treat Palestinians as equal citizens and go for the one state solution which is against Jewish ideology that the country was established and founded in 1948.

This is the essential matter of all negotiations. For the moment, Israel has done everything within its power to avoid a two state solution and certainly does not want a one state solution that comprises of Arabs and Jews that would consider the right of return of all Palestinian refugees living in diaspora all over this world.

Ernesto Sanchez   June 5th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Hey Rick,

I have been watching you since you where at WSVN 7 in Miami FL.
We went to Miami for vacationing (2 times a year) and spent all summer there. Just want to say a few words. You have grown in your career and now you are on the top of the mountain (CNN Headquarters) in Atlanta. Where else you want to go as a news anchor man? It's been very gratifying watching you and hear the news the way you give them, clear, fresh and with energy/stamina and most important presence and personality.

Today watching CNN you said something about not eating tacos?
Come on Rick, we all know you are Cuban American but don't deny you won't eat a well made fresh tacos?

Just to let you know, i am mexican origin. Just like you i am looking forward to become american when time comes (green card holder at the present time).

Wish you the best, will continue to watch your headlines and your program. You may see me on Twitter and possibly on Facebook.
I do have a brother by the name of Ricardo Sanchez, can you believe that? My family name is Lopez Sanchez. So Rick, continue doing what you are doing, you are in the right place and we all enjoy watching you.
Wish you the best to you and your family,

Ernesto Sanchez

People, please, enough with the teaser lines. I hate this so much-not to mention the many commercial interruptions-that I have turned to NPR. I am sick of being "teased."
