Well said Rick! Well said.

Carl Cooper   May 15th, 2009 8:03 am ET

Off Topic – In the 1980's the term Rhino (Republican in name only) was used condescendingly to describe a politically moderate Republican, and thus dismissing them and their views as not from a "real" Republican. As a Republican, I'd like to resurrect the term to describe our current Republican leaders, so ultra-conservative they are Republicans in name only. Probably closer to facist ideals than the "haloed" Reagan Republican ideals. It is my view that they have "purified" the party leadership of moderate thinkers.

JB   May 15th, 2009 9:08 am ET

Hey Rick, serious question. Yesterday (May 14), you were discussing Nancy Pelosi and her press conference. After many people expressed their opinions about the siiuation, you immediately went into a diatribe about the situation. Surprise, surprise, your position basically eliminated any Pelosi responsiblity, and then went on to attack GWB. This is where it got interesting. You then used a metaphor for a fire and don't blame the one who saw the fire and did nothing about it etc. . . I then changed the station to Fox, and there was a Democratic strategist on (3:11 PM), and you would not believe what I heard. . . .a metaphor about a fire and fireman and someone who witnessed a fire. Interesting, huh? Well, my question to you is this, are you nothing more than a mouthpiece for the Democratic party, spewing their talking points? It seems to me there is NO WAY that this was coincidence. You are clearly NOT a reporter, clearly have an agenda, and are basically a waste of time on the air. And, FYI, it is a big deal if Nancy Pelosi knew that waterboarding was being used, and said nothing. Saying nothing could be seen as accepetance. When presenting these things without people saying they disagree, the Bush admin had no reason to believe that dems had a problem. And therefore, you cannot go back in time and accuse these people of doing wrong. . .unless Pelosi is sitting next to them. Finally, this will do nothing but hurt our country. We need to learn from the situation and move on just like the Pres says. Oh, and finally, if you are just going to be a mouthpiece for the dems, maybe it should say so under your name on air. Full disclosure is the honest way to approach things.

JB   May 15th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Let me continue with a metaphor of my own Rick (no talking points here). I am a teenager and have a curfew of 12:00AM. As I am walking out for the night, I say to my Mom, "hey I'll be home at 2am". My Mom says nothing, and, at 2am I arrive home. My Mom then yells and screams at me for being late, and punishes me. This is not right, and is not excusable. In this situation, Mom is Pelosi. If you were informed and said nothing, then you no longer have the right to complain. And, if my Dad (in the example above) wanted to punish me, he must also punish Mom. I would love to hear your response to this and to my previous post.

RJ   May 15th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

To Carl, Your absolutely right and this is trouble for the Republican Wingnutts. Until the republican party can establish a serious platform that includes more than rich God fearing do as I say not as I do bigots, then the Republican party will continue to decline. Democrats better watch leaning to far to the left as well but as long as Cheney and Limbaugh are the Republican party spokemens then they will continue to be the minority! A lot of people look to the reagan years but as far as economically he was the one who started this mess rolling, I like to call him"the big deregulator" . Then every president since has gotten that mess even worse by not acting on what they knew. In Washington I believe they call that turning a blind eye? W and Dick should be standing trial for what they have done to our childrens and grand-childrens futures. Not that they care because they got theirs before leaving Washington! If only we could really see what they are worth now, I bet its out of this world compared to when they went into the Oval Office!

RJ   May 15th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

JB, I doubt really seriously that you are a teenager!

Concerning the football player rapist. I am from Tn and if your good a football your considered a God and can do no wrong .
Personally I have a friend who was raped and it devastated her. I think there are other much more deserving people who should get the scholarship.

Maria   May 15th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

The problem with the Republicans is that they cried wolf for eight years and now the people know that they are liars and they still want to cry wolf. Now, they are all over Pelosi about when she knew about the torture techniques they used why are they not upset about the fact that the BUSH administration used torture. Just like republicans they pee on your leg and telling you its raining. You just can't fool all the people all of the time.

Maria   May 15th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

I think its great that President Obama is speaking at Notre Dame. I also think that the Catholic Church needs to do some homework, first of all if you are pro life then the Church teaches that you are pro life across the board, even for the criminal on death row after all he is also made into the image and likeness of God. So in fact the two Bush's and Regan were in conflict with the teaching of the Catholic Church since all three believed in capital punishment. Can't have it both ways.

Aizenald   May 15th, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Aw Rick, I love you, but don't be a sore loser!!!

Bea   May 15th, 2009 11:45 pm ET

Mr. Rick Sanchez,

Where were you today, Friday May 15, 2009??? You were missed by so many viewers....
Don't stay away toolong. We hope you are o.k.....
Continue doing a great great job!

JB   May 16th, 2009 8:42 am ET

RJ, first, it was a "metaphor", you got me, I am not teenager. Second, Reagan was significantly more conservative than Cheney or Bush, or HW Bush. If you look at policies, there is not comparison. Second, yes he was for deregulation. As a more conservative person, he believed in hands off. Do you know who WAS for regulation? GWB. He approached Congress and asked them to look inot greater regulation. Do you know who stopped this? Barney Frank and Dodd. Barney Frank accused Bush publicly into trying to stop "less qualified people" from getting a mortgage. Frank in fact thought it was his job to get people mortgages that would normally not qualify. And poof, here we are today. Look it up. Of course reality is what your mind makes it, and currently there are many fairy tales flying around.

Matilda Jerry   May 16th, 2009 11:21 am ET

What do you hate people to do when they visit your home? How do you keep your cool when things go wrong at home with visitors? You don’t have to say a word. I came across this funny book HOUSE RULES which contains Different rules for different homes including the White House at XLIBRIS book store online. Get one Try it. It really works. It is VERY VERY FUNNY. This book does all the talking

MEB   May 16th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

Where were woman's rights when I visited the Notre Dame campus in 1959 ?
There were signs all over their lawns showing :

No Women Allowed On Ther Grass

I think it also said dogs. They have a short memory.

mike george   May 18th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

the cops just didnt show up on his doorstep and beat this kid up. what did he do prior thats not on the film that brought the cops to his house? cut the police some slack until u know all the details.

Ben Oliva   May 18th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Regarding the 14 year old boy in Chicago:

What is it about our country that we allow these criminal assaults by police to continue? It goes on all over the country. It is not a racial issue but a criminal issue. Until the Grand Jury process is changed and changed dramatically, these criminals, dressed up in uniforms and carrying guns will continue to assault and sometimes kill the citizens of this country

David   May 18th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

those rep are history.they are not for the country!! if they don't shape up they will be history.

OGDEN   May 18th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Regarding the 14 year old – we don't know what happened prior to the incident. However, when the sister came up, I am assuming she is in red, it looks like she has blood on her blouse as well. So what else was going on? Why were the police called in the first place?

Pat Napier   May 18th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

regarding police brutality. Innocent people instinctively resist arrest because they don't know any better. they think that life is fair. Its a power trip for the police, always has been.

John Thompson   May 18th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Hi Rick...about the police brutality charges in Toledo. As a former Police Officer, Police Detective & Police Patrol Sergeant, I have to stand with the Toledo Police on this one. For all you "Jailhouse Lawyers", Resist, Obstruct, or Delay is a 3 part charge. You can Resist an Officer OR Obstuct an Officer in his Investigation OR Delay an Officer in his Investigation. If you are told to stand up and place your hands behind your back...do it...don't run your mouth. I have dealt with many little Punks like this kid...you put them down hard and fast. These little 14 year old punks these days carry guns in their pockets or waistband. The Police were already called due to violence between he and his sister. You put them down hard & fast for the protection of everyone including the suspect...possibly to preclude a Police shooting. Try to see the other side...the Police side.

Dionisio Morales   May 18th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Although there are instances of police brutality in any country around the world the public and the media should not group all police officers as being corrupt. I personally know several police officers who are respected in their respective patrols districts. They donate their time and money to improve their communities. And when necessary they use proper and necessary force to defend themselves and others. In the wake of National Police Week let us remember police officers are people too. They are not robots, they are not perfect just like you and I. Don't allow isolated incidents to tarnish the valiant work of the men and women of law enforcement.

taylor   May 18th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

This might be off the topic but, On the video i saw about the 14 year old 120 pound teenager that got beat by the cops is i just cant believe that cops would do that. I thought u were sopposed to count and trust cops for your own safty and health and crim and stuff but how can you count on someone who beats a person for no reason? I thought you were sopposed to look up to them but how can you? I dont think i can ever look them in the eyes in the same way.

dan gottfried   May 18th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

come on, the police did nothing wrong. They arrested a suspect, and the suspect was resisiting. The police did not beat him with a baton or tased him. They just used reasonable means to effect the arrest.

Gregory Buck   May 18th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Just another situation where cops think they're above the law. I'm appalled, at first when I saw this video, I thought the boy was like 18, or late teens. There's no reason for a couple of cops to do that to a young boys face. I really hope the family takes action, maybe those cops should sit behind bars. Cops are supposed to protect and serve, not beat citizens like that. They know how to properly take control in a situation like that.

herm morgan   May 18th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

off topic rick......doesn't netan"yahoo" know he is nothing but a clone of dick cheney? he doesn't want peace at all. Obama should see this and act appropritely.

Jean-Charles   May 18th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

I think Obama’s speach was just perfecly balanced, But I dont get why many students from Notre Dame are still protesting abortion, it is a last mesure option to choose, like in teen pregnancy were their to young for having a child. Also, Catholics should know that stem cells are being taken from umbilical cord and not from a embryon now.

Greg @XanadaX   May 18th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Fox News Channel is a joke. Good job on beating them in the ratings. Spreading the word on Rick!!!

American   May 18th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

I was just listening to Rick and an Israeli ambassador to the UN talking about Iran, Israel, and Palestine. I'm so tired of him, and others saying that "Iran is a threat to the region." Was it Iran who attacked Lebanon? NO! Was it Iran who bombed Iraq? NO! Was it Iran who attacked Syria? NO! Was it Iran who used white phosphorus (a known and banned substance by Geneva convention 1980) against Gaza? NO! In fact, it was Israel who has done all these things. So why RICK, do you not say that Israel is the threat to the region??!!!!

Lesley Shone   May 18th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

I am outraged by the story on the bible verses on Dept. of Defense documents. Will the damning evidence of the moral corruption of the Bush administration ever stop coming to light? This is the ultimate proof that we went to war in Iraq because we had religious convictions that we need to convert other religions to Christianity. Shame on us!

Dave   May 18th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Hi America:

Some one out there is not paying taxes.
Apartment and home renters should pay something to send their children to our schools.
We as home owners take pride in our mortgage and pay real estate taxes so we can send our children to school-renters do not-I think congress should enact a bill to set a fee so renters pay some think for a free education and community services.
I think each state can collect a lot of revenue of an un tapped sorce of funds. We work had for our money and contribute to our community while the renter is a slacker and free loader.
Hope this helps our country.
Thank you,
Dave from Princeton, NJ USA

Susan   May 19th, 2009 4:19 am ET

Rumsfeld is a supreme manipulator who pandered to Bush's religious inclinations (weaknesses) to further promote his agenda by using scriptural quotes. However, scripture can always be found to argue any aspect in contention if perspective is observed. Anyone can quote scripture but does it prove the point at hand. Scripture can be interpteted in so many ways, just find the one that says what your agenda does. Anyone can use scripture to prove just about any point, if used wisely, like a fox, like the fox Rumsfeld is, he could overwhelm Bush and lure him to Cheney's plan of action, all the while using the secruity of .religious quotations.

Ben Oliva   May 19th, 2009 9:03 am ET

We are quick to condem some 3rd world country who have criminals as rulers and thugs running their security forces. When will we wake up that brutality under the guise of police "doing their job" is criminal. Brutalizing and assaulting someone who is being arrested for some minor infraction has more to do with the character flaw of the police officer involved than with any perceived danger to that the police officer. I would not be surprised to read that the police officers involved will claim they were injured and will then add additional charges of "assaulting a police officer" If you read ten similar stories in the coming months, and go back and read ten that have happened in the past, you can bet that they will all have very similar elements.

Jennifer Rychlick   May 19th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Rick,
I'm sickened by the abuse of authority displayed by these Toledo cops!! Police should be able to control their anger better than anyone else when being teased and taunted by a teenager!! This kid wasn't doing anything illegal at the time they beat him......disgusting!!

yetunde   May 19th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Rick,
The idea that two police officer who weigh more than 350 pounds cannot handcuffed a man that weigh only 120 pounds does not resonate with me.This is a typical example of abuse of power by the police, and thanks for putting this out.

Sean Wurster   May 19th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Dear Rick,
As someone who has been in the same position I have to say that i did not see anything wrong in the kids arrest video. He was told he was under arrest.End of story. He resisted arrest and forced the officers to subdue him.I did not see any excessive force, only what was necessary to subdue him.I'm sorry,I have to side with the officers on this one

Sean Wurster   May 19th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Dear Rick,
I'm loving the GOP right now. They are committing political suicide and making it easy to sweep them in the midterm elections.I cannot wait to see the end of the Republicommunist party.May they rest in peace FOREVER!!!!!!!God bless Barak Obama

Cory H - DSM IA   May 19th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

I agree with Darin... Well Said Rick... You and CNN doing great things!

MG   May 19th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Regarding the kid dancing in front of the officers cars:

Some children today lack respect for the law and order.
things escalated beyond where they should, but lets look at cause and effect.... no drinking and dancing in the street.= no arrest , thats potential danger to self and danger to public. The officers i think acted to remove that potential danger.

bill johnson   May 19th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

toledo police brutality...

the two officers 600lbs of em vs an 120 boy...say it took 5 mins to take him down...fire em for being incompetent..out of condion or lying...

fire that security analyst...he was totally biased ...a typical cop justifying
other cops thinking a police state is the way to go

dj bubba   May 19th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

It's not about whether or not the kid was almost killed by the police, but the trauma young black people experience throughout the country from repeated brutality. Maybe they had to restrain him, or maybe their just conditioned by now to treat black youths harder than they would a white kid dancing in front of a car.
Ironically, to air anything about black Katrina victims in the same hour is a lot like squeezing the toothpaste back into the tube, isn't it? it doesn't begin to skim the surface.

G. Alex   May 19th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Subject :police used excessive brutality in an incident caught on tape TOLEDO.

Rick,

I am a black man form California. I am not by any means supporting what is displayed in the video. However, What surprised me is this:
had the policemen we saw been Whites, I tell you Jessy Jackson and Al sharpton would have been in a rally by now. This is a very good learning point for them to realize that things of such nature are common and should not always be racially taken.

Al Mills Jr   May 19th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Rick you were talking about Mr Steel slaming the president. Well the Fox gop Comedy channel has been doing this for two years and it sure has not worked has it
Al
Seffner Fl.

Nita from TN   May 19th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Steele can criticise President Obama all he wants, but he needs to remember that the entire downward spiral in wars, ecomony, jobs, and business was all started with his President Bush and V.P. Cheney leading the pack! He is hoping that the rest of us will forget that Obama was not in charge then.

BARRY LOUISIANA   May 19th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

This boy oviously does not respect authority. With an arrest record at age 14, It safe to say that this will not be his last police incounter. As for his losing conciousness, I didn't see it. When allowed to the ground, his hands were still clinched in a fist. When his arms were lifted for cuffs, he held his head up. Clearly concious. The officers were dealing with a combatant, not a 14 yr. old. Also, they had no idea whether or not he had weapons or was on drugs causing his actions. Hats off to the police for cleaning up.

Steve in Allen, TX   May 19th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

I support the actions of the Toledo PD. Past about 12 (depending on the individual), children are more than capable of inflicting harm and making decisions. One of the key problems in this country is that many young people are not taught to respect their elders and authorities. The 14 yo person did several things that forced the PD to react the way they did... I'd slap a fine on his parents for negligence.

yetunde   May 19th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Rick,
I think Mr steel needs to begin to steal from Obama's idea now before time runs out,or else the so called Republican party would find themselves in rush circle at the end of the day.It doesn't take a genius to know that almost 3/4 population loves Obama's idea of governing, believe it or not.

jesse   May 19th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

I saw you talking about what republicans can do to get back in office.i hate to say it but i dont think they left yet.i know Obama is doing a good job on a lot of issues but certian ones a person would of never thaught he was a democrat.Since im in a union my issue is just that. For years i saw republicans kill our unions from 14% growth down to about 7% and after all the yrs of UAW bending to demands loosing benifites from yr to yr,watch there contracts get destroyed past cple mos. and rembering how we had to obey to wallstreets contracts. We had to give wall street there money from previous contracts yet i am watching UAW's get thrown into the trash.Luckily im not part of there union thats under attack from washinton! But i am in construction and for yrs i watched rep. give contracts to cheneys non union associates and now i watch this going on today. After all look in louisiana i still dont think they have finished rebuilding there!!

Steve in Allen, TX   May 19th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Steele's comments are nothing more than GOP demagoguery. The wisest move the GOP could make is to reverse direction, and throw their support to the president. Advocate support, and if Obama totally screws up, simply be prepared to move in another direction. This is the tactic the Dem's took, and it worked out well...

marie flynn   May 19th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Someone actually PAYS Mike Brooks to defend the thugs in blue that taxpayers rely on to "serve and protect " pathetic ! Can you say police brutality Brooks ? I doubt it ! I believe most cops are decent people, but there is a significant number that somehow manages to slip through the psychological testing , and this is a nightmare for the public–case in point Drew Peterson–I'm sure Brooks has something positive to say about him as well.

R.S   May 19th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Steele said to "fight Obama" and yet, Obama has been fighting failure and corruption. So is Steele forgetting this or is he hoping to find a way to restore failure and corruption in washington and in places where Bernie Madoff and Cheney made there enterprise? Steele is standing to represent where shame and degradation clobbered and abandoned ALL of our good . No more, thanks.

Joyce   May 19th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Regarding the 14 year boy, it was Not necessary for those officers to restrain the young man in that manner. How could he comply with their request while being held and pushed into the corner of the building. Are the police sending a message to the public that they will be beaten, restrained until they nearly pass-out if they don't respond to a request fast enough.

kathleen   May 19th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

TOLEDO POLICE- you slipped by the fact that this kid dented the police car, then ran. . . seen later, he was told to 'move along' and his friends did but he did a dance. . . . this is anarchy. . . . meaning no respect for authority. . . . .no tazer, no beating his up. this kid should have been in school ... . . TELL THE FULL STORY GUYS. or do you want this kid to have this attitude on your front porch . . .

carmela kirby   May 19th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

i STILL CANT FIQURE OUT HOW TO WRITE YOU JUST A COMMENT SO I found this so i hope this gets to you . please doesnt anyone see that every time obama starts getting heat ,he go after a story about bush . we looking to close at polosie . so now lets all take the attention to rumsey . were the heck did he dig that one up ; he through out those hydro cars that would of taken us away from being depended on foeign oil and now lets here it for obama 35 miles to the gallon and lots of money spending for us .what about all the money we already spent on the hydro cars out the window come on guys . report the news please .I CANT BE THE ONLY one seeing this pattern.

yetunde   May 19th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Rick,
Here we go again,Buch,Cheney,Rumsfeld,Karl Rove Condoleza Rice and many more that I cannot include here run the whole country like mafia, this people suppose to have been indicted long time ago, they lied about just everything from, tourture,to war, katrina, firing of U.S attorneys, and many many more horrific decisions they make when they were in power.

Ally   May 19th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Fantastic!!!What it's all about...you got it.

Steve in Allen, TX   May 19th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Well, it looks like the neo-cons are going to make Rummy their scapegoat. Check the facts, folks... Cheney and Bush are extremely culpable and I'd love to see them all tried under RICO.

prasanna   May 19th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Hey rick you are the best. The republicans are keep saying freedom. What is the story with that. Is barack obama holding anyone back. The answer is no. Under obama, you have the freedom to do anything you want to do. So tell the Republicans, Obama is not imlementing any laws which prevent americans from expressing freedom. All he is doing is trying to create jobs in a time when private sector is letting people go.

Steve in Allen, TX   May 19th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

How about the SBA putting together a bailout proposal for startups and other small businesses, instead of wasting time patting each other on the back. Banks aren't lending, and some businesses are about to go under.

Young Atheart   May 19th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Apparently the kid was on his own front porch. Where would he "move along" to? Yes, he defied authority with his dance but so what? The police did not have authority to tell him to move along.

Almost twice a month, we now see videos of police acting out their aggressive impulses rather thinking before they act. This leads to communities that are as mistrusting of law enforcement as any local gang.

Judge   May 19th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

I'm gonna say something that hasnt been said yet,,,,,Steele is a token he's there because Barak Obama won,,, if McCain had won i bet Steele would not be there,,The RNC brought him in because hes a man of color and thats what the rep. need to do to win elections,,Steele is being told what to say and do,,,Obama is going to be a great president and do 8 years,,,and it seems to me it's that the same people are doing all the talking,,,go to the night time talk shows and it's the same people,,Karl Rove,,,Dick Cheny,,Hannity,,,Limbaugh,,guess there are only 5-6 people who can speak for the rep,,,and all they do is try scare the american people,,,,guess thats how you win elections

Judge   May 19th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

panapapi   May 19th, 2009 10:03 pm ET

This is to Judge,,regarding your opinion on 5-19-2009 @ 4:02 pm est. I agree with you 100% about Steele, but Idon't agree w/your opinion about Obama: Just why and how do you think Obama was elected?,do you really think that the O' is runing the show? do you really think that African Americans suddenly sobered up and saw the ligth on election day,and do you really think that European Americans and White/Latinos /Hispanics or Black/Latinos/Hispanics sobered up and decided to make the O' the president ? Idont think so.
In this country we use the word "Third World" have you taken a good look at your sorroundings lately?...In those countries they sell their votes and you buy their votes. This is just my opinion

Jeremy robateau   May 20th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Hi Sanchez,
Do you know that all over the world police officers are educated to brutalize suspects? Am not surprised by police officers behaviors on cams!!!
Let CNN make a deep investigation on this!
Thank you!

Dorian Manitescu   May 20th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Rick...great show. However, don't you think that one of the day's most important stories – if not THE most important is the discovery of the so called "missing link"? Thanks

CanadaRob   May 20th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

If Bristol Palin can be a spokes person for abstinence then Michael Vick can speak for the Humane society.

Marianne   May 20th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

What if you were driving with your 16 year old and trying to help them get a handle on highway driving when this chase ensued? Would you mind the police responding the way they did? I wouldn't.

Sean   May 20th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Boring, let him work for the human society. He doesn"t deserve to play football

Larry Alania   May 20th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Regarding Michael Vicks, let's use common sense and make this a win-win situation. Let him play immediately, but only if he agrees to donate a significant percent of his salary to the Humane Society for a significant period of time.

michelle g   May 20th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

In regards to Mr. Vick...please get the verbage right. He has not served his sentence. That is why he is on probation

I know you moved on but Michael Vic is a brutal and violent person you dont rehab that behavior in a few months in jail. Noone else would be offered a glory job in NFL after what he did. His consequense should be to loose all that fame if he was so talanted he should have been smart enough to not tortore innocent animals get real the good old blind eye for violence should be kept in check...

John Dandois   May 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Regarding Michael Vick: Not only was he involved in illegal dog fights, but he also bankrolled the betting on those fights...I believe that NFL contracts prohibit the betting on sports events. This is a breach of his contract. I do believe that he served his time and should be given another chance, but he has NOT served his time with the NFL. They should suspend him for at least another year so that he can do his time. Spending time in jail did not permit him to play in the NFL and after getting out of prison, he should do his time, whatever Goodell decides, before he can play again.

golfforeit   May 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

I keep hearing reports on the air that M.Vick is bankrupt, how is he able to keep the estate he lives on. I thought crime doesn't pay?

Jack Howard   May 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

hey Rick what has happened to the Sen. race in Minn? has the judge put a gag order on it? i haven't heard a word in quite a while.

Vicki Goldenson   May 20th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Rick, Dog fighting is a form of animal cruelty that shows an attitude toward dogs that equates them to machines that have no feelings, can't feel pain, can't be sad or lonely.etc. You have a dog who gets love, food, a nice place to sleep, vet care when he needs it.etc.Why are fighting dogs kept like slaves, deprived of all the good things dogs deserve ? Because dog fighters don't think of them as having feelings. Michael Vick was the mastermind of a dog fighting business. He has to prove that he feels remorse for what he did to all those poor dogs. Many of his dogs haave been give a second chance after being rehabilitated. Michael has to prove that he deserves a second chance and that won't happen over night.. Any team that takes him now is asking for demonstrators at all their games.

Karen   May 20th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Rick – I want to know who is paying for the illegal alien boy's current medical care right now??? I'm assuming its taxpayers like me...sorry, but I'm having a hard time feeling compassionate – since I have to worry every day about being unemployed, uninsured & getting sick in this country, possibly losing everything I've worked for all my life because of an illness and no insurance!!! Who will pay for my medical care when I am uninsured?? Who will care about me?

Joe   May 20th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

In regards to the 14 year old and toledo police, the one thing this video doesn't show is what happened before the camera was on scene. A big deal is being made about what the kid looked like after the fact, but the video doesn't show what was the kid trying to do to cause the police to have to use force against him.Why does the person with the camera run up on scene to record the aftermath? I think the locals don't like the police and are trying to get them in trouble. Its like showing a video of someone after an arrest and trying to make the case that they were falsly arrested because the video doesn't show the crime. This video doesnt tell the whole story.

Martha   May 20th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Forget about just getting that young Guatemalan's parents here for his death...how about putting him on the top of the heart transplant list without regard to who will pay for it. If this child can try to raise his family out of abject poverty all alone to the point where he is now near death....the US and indeed the world can try to give him life. His sacrifice and hard-work for the sake of honoring his father and mother is the highest of values in every religion around this globe. Let the Congressmen and Senators of Georgia work on that instead of voting on guns in National Parks!!!

Patricia   May 20th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Rick, Why do you never read comments on your blog from people who are fed up with the illegal aliens? You are very biased.

Linda Duenas   May 20th, 2009 7:53 pm ET

Rick- I just heard about that boy & his failing heart, & his desire to see his parents just one more time. How would someone find out more info about the boy's immediate needs like seeing his parents one, last time? I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to know! There are some caring people in this world, who do care about people like this boy with a failing heart.
If actions mean anything to you, to this young man, & his parents, please help me find out more info concerning this young man, please? I'm only one person, but am quite concerned about this one boy and his parents! Gracias, y Dios te bendiga! Thanx and May you be richly blessed! Sra. LD Mrs. LD

Grandmother   May 20th, 2009 8:18 pm ET

My comment is about the boy found buried at the playground. Lately children of 3 and 4 years of age are in great danger in this country every week there is a new child taken from their own home or found murder and no one knows anything; most of the time is a family member who hurt them. These children are easy target to predators, because of their age they can’t defend them self from the attackers. Recently I file a child abuse case with DHS against the boyfriend of my granddaughter’s mother. I’m a grandmother of a 4 year old whom I babysat for 91% of her life time because her mother was to busy living her own life so I have to step on to the plate for the baby’s safety, last month my granddaughter told me how the mother’s boyfriend pull her pants down and hit her hard, those were her own words, and how he hit her with a paddle, that I found out later he made at his place of work, when I told the mother about this, she denied it and told me it was all a creation of her imagination, after four years of day in and day out taking care of her and to keep my grandchild from telling me what this man is doing to her, she stop bringing her to me, she is the mother and she can do anything she wants with her daughter even if that means compromise the child’s safety for that of the boyfriend’s, according to DHS. It took DHS a week before they talked to my granddaughter I called, left messages, a letter and even visit this office so I can talk to the case worker but she would not take my calls, one time she call me back just to say that the baby was fine and didn’t have any bruises. It’s sad but this is the only time this office do anything when is already too late as Caylee’s case and the boy found at the playground. When you let the system know what is happening, especially when you are a relative, they don’t pay attention because you are only upset that the mother is exercising her right to keep the child away from you; they need physical proof so unless the child is black and blue all over, at a hospital with broken bones, rape or beating to death there is nothing I can do, even if all I’m trying to do is protect this child’s safety, I have no rights to interfere. Sad, that a child has to died or go trough horrible punishment for the system to do something about it.

What's the big deal bringing the Gitmo prisoners to the U.S. They're already here and The U.S. is already on top of it.We have Manson, the Uni-bomber ...locked up and they aren't a threat to us anymore.Cheney is just talking out his rear end.

Janet Glazier   May 21st, 2009 10:13 am ET

Send the Gitmo prisoners to Thomson Correctional Center in Illinois. Its a Brand New,Never opened Maximum Security Prison built 8 years ago thanks to Republican Gov. G. Ryan and his corrupt politics.

Janet Glazier   May 21st, 2009 10:39 am ET

President Obama is on the right track. Its time to follow his lead.Cheney, you had your chance now Shut Up already!

FM   May 21st, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Cheney is simply mounting his defense to keep himself out of jail for war crimes.

rita nalette   May 21st, 2009 3:34 pm ET

I voted twice for George W. Bush. I am a Republican and we do that. I watched as, under his watch, my country was so seriously injured as to be on the verge of destruction. My heart was broken and then I became very angry. I wasn’t going to be silent any longer and while I was just a 59 year old woman operating a cleaning service I was also a child of the ‘60s and a Veteran.

I had read the Constitution and this administration was violating their oaths of office. It cost me $200.00 to file my challenge in The United States Court of Federal Claims (No. 06-355 C, Filed: may 1, 2006, Assigned to: Judge Marian Blank Horn, Clerk: Brian Bishop). I got the crap slapped out of me but I had fought and it is on record. I am an American and we stand up and fight when we see a wrong being done.

Election 2008 – I listened to Senator Obama. I watched how Senator and Mrs. Obama carried themselves. A small ember glowed as this clean, intelligent and articulate man spoke. I don’t want or need my president to do anything but represent my country to the world and not shame me in my house. I am so proud to have voted for Senator Obama and to have gained Senator Biden as well.

Hey Rick.....We need to "stay the course" we are presently in. These 240 (pow's, murderer's, liars???) are our responsibility, and should NOT be sent back to their Countries!!! Are we going to trust the Afgan/Iraq/Pakistan government's to secure these people? I say it's about time to start some new jobs! Upgrade Alcatraz, and keep them there, so that the Red Cross can have access to these people.

dear rick,

despite his supporters needs Barack Obama never was a professor at the U. of Chicago. he wasa part-time law school instructor.

do you understand that? this started with the NYT's mislabeling him as a professor. which was incorrect.

there are three active levels of professor. they are assistant with NO tenure, associate and full both with tenure.

Obama was NOT qualified to be a professor and was not willing to do the work or even apply as an assistant. that would require writing and opinions that could be later used to actually show his thought process. he did not want that burden.

i was an instructor at the U. of Chicago and understand preciesly how the system worked. because like Obama was not interested in an academic career.

with regards.i

rick! for channey to be talking now, show's he is the brian behind the failure of the bush administration,i think he should just shut up and go to enjoy his vacation b4 he ends up in jail.

Rick,
The outstanding coverage and resulting generosity of the American Public shows that we are capable of caring. For 8 years, other countries have thought us cold-hearted and vicious. We have had no problem spending billions of dollars taking care of the people and rebuilding the infrastructure of other countries, yet some people actually have the audacity to complain when we try to take care of one of ours. Yes, Juan Gonzalez was here illegally, but he was working, working at a job that most Americans think they are too good for. And for those who are prejudiced and will probably accuse me of being an immigrant. But that is the farthest from the truth as my family has been in America for centuries. I am proud to be called an American, an American who cares!

Mike   May 22nd, 2009 4:00 pm ET

I'm surprised at the Democratic backlash at Obama and Pelosi – did you really believe their campaign rhetoric? Would you have open heart surgery without checking the record of the surgeon? He took over the auto companies to pay back the unions, raised costs on responsible credit card users to pay off the big bankers, and she is a lier. Are you REALLY surprised?

yetunde   May 25th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

We all need to condermn the politics of fear. What is wrong in closing down guatanamo bay?.The insitution that shouldn't have been established in the first place, these guys commited a crime by killing the Americans, and they need to be brought to justice in America not in Cuba,by the way, the idea that if we locked them in super maximum prisons, and they,re going to show up on my front porch or in my kitchen doesn't make any sense either?.

Chris Flaherty   May 26th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Rick,
It's blowing my mind how CNN is failing to cover the emerging story in Burma with Aung San Suu Kyi. Isn't this news big enough for CNN? Granted, there have been several breaking news stories today but still I haven't seen anything on Aung San Suu Kyi. Does CNN think Americans simply wouldn't care? what gives???

Wil Rodriguez   May 26th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

I heard Rosh Limburger today and he was ranting and raving on the president's choice of Sotomyor. I thought he would have a stroke ( wishful thinking ?) To hear Rosh, our president president was only elected because he is black as if no whites ever get elected and Ms Sotomayor only get through college and law scholl because the govt paid her way and know nothing about law.

Rick I wish you would set up a debate with this crazy, dangerous man so all can see what a nutcase he is.

Rick, did Solidad O'brien in her report imply that $35 million was too much money to spend on education during the current recession? Say he did not. How many billion dollars have we poured into Wall Street and into the nation's banks so far?

Kahoneez   June 5th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Unfortunately a lot of people fall for this repetitive infotainment talk and don't realize what's really going on in this country and around the world .

And it's a disgrace to stop covering the suffering in Gaza , the attack on small farmers is never mentioned , by the new bill . FEMA camps on military bases , is a real bill and you have to wonder is CNN purposely covering up for the government or just to busy hyping the latest headline .

And it's absolutely absurd that you have to go to youtube to find out about the over 100,000 Indian Farmers , in the last several years , because of the destruction of their way of life , by Monsanto . And during these bad economic times , why is it CNN never makes an issue or reports of Obama's request of one billion dollars for another obscene " embassy " this time in Pakistan , WHICH in reality , is another Fortified City , just like in Iraq .

Need your help in getting this out on the air about the illegal shootings on innocent victims by the Roane County TN Sheriff's Dept.

Two separate incidents, Roane County TN has had Sheriff's Deputies go to individuals' homes with the intent to kill. This past weekend, a second man was fired upon multiple times by a Roane County Officer while speaking to his brother on the phone.

David Dickey was speaking to his brother on the phone when a Roane County Sheriff's Deputy got out of his car and began shooting Mr. Dickey who was un-armed. Dickey had told his brother that he shot a deer that had been damaging their garden. Under TN Law shooting a deer that has damaged one's proprty/ garden is allowed.

However, shooting an un-armed man is not legal and the Roane County Sherrif's Dept seems to be covering up this shooting as they did with the attack on Mr. Houston several months ago when Houston (in self-protection) shot back at the Roane County Officers who drove up to kill him.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated by the families.

Please don't give Sheehan any more publicity! This is no longer about the former Administration's policy. Next we hear from her will be about an exploritory committee for some office.

I do believe the earth is getting warmer for now, not because of human behavior, but due to natual warmeing and cooling. There are many milions of people that believe that this is true versus Al Gore's attempt to get more air time. For the U.S. Goverment to take over the world in reducing artificial warming will just be another attempt to control everthing.

I AM AN 81 YEAR OLD MEXICAN/AMERICAN; BORN IN NOGALES,AZ., WHERE MY FATHER WAS A US CUSTOMS BORDER PATROLMAN( THEY WERE DISBANDED IN 1948' MY MOTHER'S FAMILY HAD FLED MEXICO IN FEB. 1911. MY MATERNAL GRANDFATHER HAD BEEN AGAINST THE REVOLUTION, SO HE BROUGHT OUT OF MEXICO ALL THE MONEY HE COULD QND FLED HERE LIKE MOST RICH CUBANS DID IN 1959, WHEN CASTRO TOOK OVER. MY GRANDFATHER, WAS WRONG AS WERE ALL THE RICH GREEDY CUBANS THAT FLED CUBA IN 1959. MOST OF THOSE CUBANS ONCE ABLE TO VOTE, BECAME REPUBLICANC SUCH AS YOU ARE.IFTHE HAVES HAD CARED A WIT FOR THE POOR, CUBA WOULD NOT HAVE TURNED ON THE PUPPETEX-0ARMY SGT. WE , THE USA HAD PLACED AS PRESIDENT OF CUBA, AND ENSLAVED THE PEOPLE. IF ROOSEVELT, HAD NOT BEEN ELECTED PRESISDENT IN 1932, THE US MIGHT HAVE HAD OUR OWN REVOLUTION. I NEVER SUFFERED FROM PREJUDICE. IN NOGALES, AZ., WHERE I WAS RAISED THE MAJORITY OF MEXICANS, HAD MONEY AND WERE EDUCATED, THEY MOSTLY THOUGHT THEY WERE SUPERIOR TO THE GRINGOS; HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR MY FATHER I WOULD BEEN RAISED A SNOB. TODAY PROBABLY 50 % OR MORE OF THE " LATINOS" IN THE USA ARE OF MEXICAN EXTRACTION, WHILE THE CUBANS NUMBER LESS THAN 2 MILLION..THERE ARE MORE MEXICAJNS IN LA THEN THERE ARE CUBANS IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
WHY DO WE , THE USA TREAT CUBA AS WE DO? BECAUSE THEY ARE COMMIES?O WAS RUSSIA ANS CHINA, BUT DO WE TREAT THEM IN THE SAME FASHION? HELL NO; ASK YOURSELF WHY. NOW UNLESS YOUR PARENTA ARE RICH WHY ARE YOU A REPUBLICAN. STUDY WELL ALL THE LAWS THAT CREATED A MIDDLE CLASS IN THIS COUNTRY ANS CHECK TJHE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD AND SEE WHICH IF ANY OF THEM WHERE ENACTED BY REPUBLICANS. IF IT WAS UP TO THEM; GOD ONLY KNOWS WHERE WE WOULD BE.tHE DEMS ARE SURELY NOT PERFECT, BUT THEN THERE IS NO PERFECTION ANYWHERE ON THIS EARTH. THE DEMS LOST THE SOUTHERN STATES BECAUSE OF OUR FIGHT FOR CIVIL RIGHTS; AND THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT. I LIKE YOU RICK, BUT PLEASE ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT TO AWAKEN YOU. NO SIGAS SIENDO TAN PENDEJO.
