it's Saudi Arabia!! Don't they still cut off peoples hands or kill women for walking unescorted? How could this surprise anyone? It's a barbaric society!

Lynn   May 11th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I dislike this format-not news, just competing with facebook for consumer time. I just turned the channel. I was a fan when I lived in the keys in the 90's...now, I just cant watch Rick anymore. I turn to CNN for NEWS, not public commentary or blogage. Sorry, I'm gone.

john   May 11th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

hi,do you forgot about what rush said about micheal j fox.in his radio show.

kim   May 11th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Limbaugh has said more bad things to every one. She made a comment on the what he has said. He's a mean person.

Roy   May 11th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

I worked a national Railroad in this country, and about two years ago, I suggested to my division Manager that all cell phones should be prohibited from being taken on trains, I was told that they needed them for emergencies, that was crap, they all have radio's that connect immediately to a network center to handle any emergency. There is no excuse for the accidents we are seeing with trains and buses, it is irresponsible for any company or transit agency to allow this behavior.

Marshall   May 11th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Rick, did you forget Rush's comment that the health care bill will turn into the Ted kennedy memorial bill? Where was the outrage then? I think that Sen. Kennedy is fighting cancer right??

ivory   May 11th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Dick says he'd rather have Rush the HATE MONGER in his party
rather than the Former Sec of State, 4 Star General and former
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen Powell in that broken down former
power house party of his, than thats just fine. I hope that Gen. Powell
gives both these people their wish and come on over to our side we
could surely use him. Since when are you not suppose to have your
own opinion. No one saw Dick C. maybe 4 times in eight years but now he's just like every other rat when it gets too hot they start to come out of their holes and hiding places and run all over the place. My hat goes off to a great man such as Gen Powell. Dick Cheney is just plain scary, when Dick C. can't pull the strings the he gets mad and starts to whine. Someone asked him a question today and I heard him say he was the VP how soon they forget.

alka   May 11th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

Rick, you guys should not take Wanda Sykes too seriously about Limbaugh comment. After all she is also an entertainer and she is making fun or dissing another entertainer. She is at least not wishing the leader of country fails.

Elana   May 12th, 2009 12:09 am ET

Hello,

Who cares! You news people like to stir up CRAP!. If you'll havn't noticed this country is facing a lot of issues, like....survival! We're all in our Last Days! Jesus is coming back soon! I hope that this 85% Christian Country is all prayed up! I know I am because I'm a sinner saved by Grace! Love one another Jesus said in the Holy Bible, and I do love all and I even love my enemies (Matthew 5:44) and I do pray the people in this counrty and all the world . Thank you and God bless.

Dr. M. L. Simmons   May 12th, 2009 7:56 am ET

Yo Rick: Rash Limbo removed himself from humane comedy considerations when he trashed Michael J. Fox's disease and made fun of his tragic condition. As far as I am concerned Keith O. and you both are being much too wussy about Wanda Sykes humor. I will bet your pal Carlos "The Mind" Mencia would not be so timid............

Your show is great!!!!!

drlee

ronvan   May 12th, 2009 9:24 am ET

If you can't take the heat then get out of the kitchen! What goes around comes around & on & on. Limburger is only interested in himself & ratings. The republicans are "lost in the woods" and worship this hate monger. As far a cheney goes, I would not give him ANY air time, ANYWHERE, as he is a dispicable low life, crook!

HOWARD   May 12th, 2009 10:02 am ET

WALMART IN FAYETTEVILLE NORTH CAROLINA TREAT THEIR EMPLOYEES LIKE MODERN DAY SLAVERY! BLACK, WHITE,BLUE, PURPLE , AND GREEN!!!! ITS JUST ABOUT THE MONEY TOO THEM AND MY WIFE IS SUSPENDED RIGHT NOW FOR MISSING HER COURT DATE IS THAT LEGAL? AND I ALSO WAS DONE DIRTY FOR WALMART IN FAYETTEVILLE N.C. TO MAKE AND LONG STORY EVEN SHORTER!!! SOMEONE NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE!!!!!!!

Marine Vet Jonathan S   May 12th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Hey Rick, great Show! I'm an OIF vet and I'm outraged at the charge for the soldier! I've been deployed twice to Iraq 03' and 04'. I'm also diagnosed with PTSD from the VA. No B.S, life is hard after the military. It's difficult to adjust to civilian life. There's no one to talk to, no one helps. If we get an appointment to see a counselor, they want to deem us "Crazy". I'm not. I'm misunderstood. The only people who can help us Veterans, are each other. The brotherhood, a bond you can't break. We'll talk to each other because we've walked in each others' shoes. Tell Mr. President, if he wants to end this. Put the money towards Veterans who help other Veterans, like confronting young Active Duty military and Veterans. I would like to help, contact me.

Karen Pomer   May 12th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Why are we surprised that this guy went off. The only surprise is it has not happened sooner. Have spoken to dozens of military families whose loved ones were forced to do another tour in Iraq and/or afghanistan after being diagnosed with PTSD....Ask those families to write in to show and you will see how prevelant it is.

Jose A Cotto   May 12th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Hi Rick:
Michael Steele should revisit his High school history, He said that with time everything changes and to prove his point gave the example that Greenland was once Green and Iceland was the green one. Farther from the truth.

I spent a tour of duty in Thule Air base and had a lot of time to read the history. Iceland in on thermal depsits & geisers an and is quite nice.greenland is icy all year around. Folklore has it that Eric the Red misnamed it on purpose.

RJ   May 12th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Karen, its a massive cover-up by the U.S. government, their motive: enormous amounts in medical services and Social Security benefits and not to mention the total embrassment sustained due to those soldiers should have never been there in the first place! I`m sick of hearing Dick Cheney babble on how righteous the far right republican and he is and he`s nothing more than a war criminal who is walking free! Rush and Dick should get to share a jail cell for ever as far as I`m concerned!

Nancy Rhodes   May 12th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Our military has become much like Caesar's Legions. They go away to unending war. They give up all hope of home and a future in with family, a job, those things we used to call the American life style. There is no way out.

I don't believe they signed up for this kind of thing. Nobody told them that this was forever.

Caesar is wrong.

Sandra Horton   May 12th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

As a veteran of OIF and EOF all I can say there is no easy solution. I am hoping VA medical and support of our Country help pull the troops for years to come. I saw several troops acting bizarre when coming back- some we were able to help and some slipped thru the cracks. This is something we all have to live with. What do you expect and is anyone really surprised? Majority of the people do what we can to help each other out.

Bob in Seattle   May 12th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Rick,

You might be subtly mischaracterizing the issue with Miss California. My understanding is that the contract required her to attest that she had never "professionally posed nude or semi-nude. " In turn, she's contesting that she "professionally posed" for the photos that have recently been circulated.

If a friend took the first photo when she was 16, then I agree with her that it wouldn't violate the contract. Likewise, her explanation about the other photos (i.e., that the photographer took them in between poses) strikes me as being sufficiently plausible that I wouldn't scoff at it on national television.

Joe   May 12th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Rick, I just wanted to follow up on a story that Gary Tuchman did on the town of Tenaha, Texas. It turns out that it is not the only town in Texas that is targeting minorities in an attempt to sieze property. The town of Medina, Texas is known to have its own little scheme going. It works like this; the locally stationed state trooper stops expensive looking vehicles, being driven by Hispanics, and radios the local police to come out to the scene to perform a search. The tag team operation gives both law enforcement agencys deniability. The team then preasures the stopped party to allow a vehicle search and local agency finds some reason to impound the vehicle. The scenario then plays out in exactly the same way that the Tenaha, Texas story reads. In exchange for forfiture of the vehicle, all charges are dropped or, in lieu of that, a "fee" is assessed to facilite the return of the propery. Is there any way that someone at CNN could follow up on this? It may be that cash strapped municipalities in Texas are passing the word that their sister towns can make up revenue shortfalls by unethically exploiting Texas property siezure laws.

John Windham   May 12th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Concerning the Republican guest and being stuck with tax cut after tax cut. I believe we shouldn't have any tax cuts until the budget is balanced and we are making serious dents in the national debt.

I used to be a republican years ago, but spending more than we are taking in is against my ideas of what the republican party should be about.

Like your show. John

Bruce Eysel   May 12th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

As a retired infantry officer, I wondered how so many soldiers today look like professional wrestlers. I was told last wek by a noncom that many soldiers use steriods.

I was told by a soldier that was recently discharged that they do not get exposed to steriod use in Basic Training. They find them and are told about how they can help one perform when they get to their units.
70 pound packs and 24 mile road marches are quite difficult for most to bear.

This steriod use may be partial cause for so many suicides in the military. I wonder if the sargent that shot his fellow soldiers has used steriods and other drugs to enhance perfomance and then on top of that drugs to handle stress?

You might look in to it.

russ   May 12th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

On the waterboarding issue, let's take what we have and turn it over to the international community, per se, war crimes commision, and see where it leads. Odds are, guilty on all accounts.

Mike M   May 12th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Do you know that the draft is alive and well in the military. It is incredibly difficult for military officers to leave the military. They have to resign the comission and most requests are denied.... Resigning your commission also limits your ability to get VA benefits. You need a very senior level reserve officer supporting your request in order to get your resignation approved. The best way to get out is be medically discharged.

Nephesh_Amarcusa   May 12th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Former Vice President cheney's is irrelevant however, his "Opinions" as he knows still has influence over faithful blind followers. We should be listening for and thinking about why he is making so many public appearances. When he was incognito V.P. only by name during his eight years with g.w. bush, cheney appeared then has much has Big Foot does. It is easy to see that he has a purpose for his sudden love of the camera. Could it be that he is hiding another agenda behind this media coverage or a strategy to distract & sway the court of public opinion ? Former V.P cheney does represent the republican party but, he represents the part that does not want to move in a new direction. He like most tea baggers & ditto-heads do not want a common consiousnous in America. e.g Rejecting bipartinship by becoming "The Party Of NO", attacking their own for having different views. The previous administration spent big, failed to deal with wall street and were the first to bail them out but, has the "Medicine Balls" to say that now it is the wrong thing to do. Well controversy does sells even its a bunch of bull, I just wonder how many buying it.

Bev   May 12th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Rick, about Social Security, Take a look at how many drug addicts are on it, not to mention the ppl that come from other countrys and have never worked here get it, No wonder its a mess. Give it to the ppl that are really disabled and the ppl that have worked and paid in all their lives.

john   May 12th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Cheney's attacks is on the way ,outright attacks for GOP
The New GOP. Same As The Old GOP."
ONLY GOD CAN HELP US NOT THE GOP

Hey Rick, with all this talk about salt at restaurants, makes me off kilter. I was born with a birth defect..My kidneys flush the salt right out of me. I didn't find this out until I was in my forties. I passed out constantly. I even passed out with8 people in front of me to see Elvis Presley at the MGM.
Now I know that I have to eat extra table salt. I can never take salt pills.
The Dr.'s advised me to eat potato chips – anything with salt in it.
Sometimes I just put salt on the top of my hand and lick it.
So these people that are pushing the restaurants about salt have to know there are people like me!!
Love your show.

Howard Flysher   May 12th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

How can any good results which has been said to not exist justify commiting an act which is classified as Torture. I am utterly amazed by this rediculous jstification. Maybe the Nazis felt that what they did justified the threat the felt from the communists that they claimed to be thre Jews in their country. They could say it saved German Lives. That is just as false as the Republican commentators who use that argument. Also We were following orders is no excuse. Dis we not execute Japanese tortiures who use Water Boarding after the 2nd World War,

Barry Kintner   May 12th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Good day -

– Try to find a lawyer who will go up against the Veterans Administration. I've been told there are none in Arizona who will support a Veteran's claims any longer.

Sid   May 12th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

I work for a non-profit organization and help veterans get benefits from VA. I am also retired US Army. It saddens me to see what the wars – especially Iraq – are doing to our veterans. Our workload is increasing and there's no end in sight. PTSD is rampant! Great for job secruity, but I'd rather be in the unemployment line than to have so many veterans who need our help. By the way, I love my job – and have for the last 10 years......

Pauline   May 12th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

First it's children, who think they have no safe place.
Then adults and employees.
Finally a Judge is judged by his own peers in a court of law.
and a victim can put the blame where it belongs.
What about the Total Power of a Bishop over his priest if he so chooses to harrass him?.
Like you say, can people have a voice when it comes to harrassment of any kind and from anyone, in any court of law?

ron   May 12th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

the courts are in process to get a person deported for war crimes, to Germany,Sadam Hussen was hung for war crimes, many from WW12 were prosecuted and sentenced for war crimes and the US led the court there. Now when in hell is this country and its courts going to do the same thing to Bush and Cheney and Rumsfield for doing the same crimes and for breaking all the laws when it comes to war crimes and torture. Does everyone for get about the Nurenberg Trials and what they werwe supposed to represent. Does everyone for get the Millions that died to prevent these kind of crimes in our country and zaround the world? They did not tedll all those who werte guility to "Just lets move on" and it should not be the case with Cheney and Bush just because of their positions in this country. On the contrary, they should be dealt with the same as others to show the WORLD and This country that we do not support these kind of crimes no matter WHO you are. You will pay the price..Respect the Millions who died and suffered to prevent this so their lives and suffering has not been in vain or given for nothing..........

Pauline   May 12th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Lynn 3;52pm: CNN rhetoric is the same news all day long.......
Each Anchor says it in his/her own words over and over again.
Rick is a welcomed change.

Shon   May 12th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

We wouldn't be having a problem with Social Security if the Republican Party (since the time of Reagan) had not been borrowing from it to try to help cover the 11 trillion dollar deficit they left us.
Also the solution is simple: Take the monetary cap off. Make people pay their share.
Why should it stop at $90,000.00? If we want to give the employer a break then set a cap for the Employer.
Why should a person earning more than the cap get away scott free on the remainder.
It's an unfair system that penalize poor people and let's the rich get away with the money again.

Gracie   May 12th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

In regards to the Social Security and Medicare issues, I think that everyone applying for benefits should have proper medical checkups with actual Diagnosis in order to receive Benefits. There are people who play the system and Lie/manipulate the system. They are stealing from those indiviuals who have actually earn the right to receive those Benefits. All applicants should be monitored periodically with a new Checkup every 6 months and if they still have Diagnosis of mental retardation or some type of mental Disability they should have record of every visit the indiviual has had up to date to ensure that they still need treatment from a Counselor, Psychiatrist, evaluators etc..... Let me just say this, the SS and Medicare Departments need to stop being manipulated by indiviuals who have children and then make their children lie and play incapacitated to any extent just so that they can get these free checks by playing the system, even the own parent plays the role as well. This is where you Senior Citizens hard work goes to when Social Security and Medicare don't do there job thoroughly, it should be continuos and ongoing. And people wonder why the system is sinking literally into debt at such a fast pace. WAKE UP and get those losers checked out, then maybe this can help make a difference for those who actually deserve and are worthy for the Programs,. I can say this because I know of people who get away with this everyday and for 15 plus years but SSi nor Medicare can accept any reports due to client privacy, so they can't do anything but give losers free money..Mr. Obama if this gets to you somehow, please save my Grandchildren from going into this with just a knife at a gunfight......

Mike Francq   May 12th, 2009 4:44 pm ET

Looked up the dictionnary for ANNOYING.. and saw your picture Mr. Sanchez..

You are not a graduate of the "Tim Russert school of reporting"... did you not learn to stop interrupting your guests when they are speaking !!!

The news is NOT about you Mr. Sanchez.. so please spare us your empty comments and let the experts speak..

Ruth   May 12th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

I know you like the sound of your voice but please stop interrupting your guest every other word. Thank you.

Mary Trevino   May 12th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

I don't understand the fuss about Miss CA posing half naked....the contestants in the entire Miss USA all present themselves half naked in the contest. It seems to me we have them prance around "half-naked" and then disqualify them if they pose half-naked. Duh!!!! Who are we kidding? As for her answer to the judge's question, she was not very articulate "In my country, you have a choice –" but the judge was definitely biased since he is gay. God what is this world coming to?

Bea   May 12th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Hi Mr. Sanchez,

I am hooked on CNN all day at work. But the best part of the news day is from 2:00- 3:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. I can't get on my computer at work but I watch your hour program and I find it very interested better than all the others! And I make sure no one speaks too loud during your hour.
I feel you should have your own daily program. Plus, you are so so easy on the eyes.....
Yesterday on your program it showed that the late actor Michael Landon's son had been found dead, but none of the news programs has announced anything on it. Do you have any word on this?
I will continue to watch.

Keep up the good work.

ron   May 13th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

This Congress and Senate are always bringing up the disaster the Social Security and Medicare programs are in Yet not ONE ever mentions "how much this government has taken out of the SS fund or when they are going to start paying it back.Just one tenth of what they has stolen from SS in the last 40 years was paid back, the fund would last well into the year 3000. This should be a discussion to inform all those who do not know what has REALLY HAPPENED to the Social Security Fund...........ronm

John Paul   May 13th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

Hi Rick,

My assessment is Americans for torture have never been in the military to include their siblings and relatives and Mr. Chaney. If torture worked, the true mastermind of 9/11, Ben Laden, would have been captured and Saddam Hussein cleared of 9/11 connection.

marlaj59   May 13th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

About health care... I make too much for the insurance Gov. Daniels created for low income persons in Indiana, but I can't afford private health insurance. I'm stuck! No fair.!

Peter Coloyan   May 13th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Rick – come on! Do you really think that any of the people on the boat were "vanquished"?

karen west   May 13th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

How would we feel about waterboarding if it was done to one our troops? Would we not be calling it torture? Didn't people admit to anything while being tortured during the inquisition?

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

According to my computer and internet Twitter is down right now for maintenance. But, our service men need more care and less war.

They need time to power down when they are done with a tour, and they need fewer tours. We also need to have fewer reasons to be sending your young men away to be killed.

john   May 13th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Big banks, car companies, etc., bailed out, why not Social security and Medicare.

Dee   May 13th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

I appreciate Elizabeth Edwards. Her book is great. I am glad she is also speaking out about John's affair. My husband had an affair 4 years ago and now our marriage is also different. The other woman is always aware of the hurt she & the man is causing.

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Air Plane crashes are on the rise, why? The entire country is under stress and many are not admitting it. Our commercial pilots are over worked and under paid. I thought I had heard that the co pilot was paid 16K a year. That ain't much! No wonder she had a 2nd job. For that kind of money, I'd have a 2nd and be looking for a first still.

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Using this method of communication cause TWITTER IS DOWN right now.

Now that some of Bush's buddies are being investigated, is it time to re-open Alcatraz yet? Oh yeah, Cheney's second wife Rush Limburger can share an 11X8 room with him too.

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

Elizabeth Edwards is not news. Her book is for those who want to read it. This was personal and not my business.

I don't have cancer, that would likely affect me if my husband had a mistress with me sick.

jim hudnut   May 13th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

why is the news and the congress wasting so much time worrying about pouring water on some terrorists head. who cares anyways, i dont know anyone who cares. you should spend more time on the crooks in governmentand the banking system, thats what real americans are concerned with.

Chuck Spinks   May 13th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Am I missing something?
Does our ratification of the Geneva Convention no longer exist? Did it somehow expire?
Whatever we do to other people WILL HAPPEN IN RETURN to our people!!!!
Is that what we should bestow on the HANDFUL of warriors that preserve the freedom of MULTITUDES?

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

I am sad for the soldier to was too upset to talk and used a gun instead.

We do not do enough for our troops, thanks to Bush, we need them all the more and give them all the less.

I meet soldiers now and then, on leave. I tell them all I am sorry they are in a war that should not be. I wish them best of luck and to be strong.

John's father may be right, but he needs his privacy too.

Helen Clark   May 13th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

I would love for you to interview Sean Hannity. He's the most annoying person on t.v.

I would vote for Pres. Obama again, people should give him a chance.

I don't think the whole country should see the torture photos, children would see them, etc. It is torture and when Hannity, O'Reilly, or the rest say they would be waterboarded to prove it isn't, they should talk to the people who have to perform these type of interrogations and see how they feel.

really like your show.

Julia   May 13th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Here is the sad message most conservatives are sending out to the public– if you are a good "Religious" person, you stick by your MAN when he disrespects, embarrasses, and hurts you, PUBLICLY no less! The vows taken only apply to the wife apparently, because it seems like the husbands do as they please! This is the undoing of faith based politicians in my opinion!!!

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

I do not regret voting for Obama, or maybe I regret that he has this awful job right now.

The truth is that he is learning just how hard it is to change this gov't system. He made a lot of promises that he had no chance of being able to keep.

He will do his best, but he will not come close to what he dreamed of doing. I continue to support him, except for the decisions with the banks and auto industry. He is so sucked into the system that he cannot bring the change he had hoped to bring.

I feel sad for him, many of his dreams are being dashed so fast.

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

If Notre Dame does not want the President of the United States to speak at their commencement then the college is going to suffer.

Arguing over abortion is a fool's game now. It is law and is not going anywhere. Don't want an abortion? DON'T GET PREGNANT unless you plan to have a baby.

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Under paid, under trained pilots. Time to care about public safety. On top of everything else going on!

Sherry   May 13th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Rick,

I think if Bush, Cheney & Rice ordered the waterboarding and didn't consider it torture, then they should have been waterboarded 80 plus times as proof to everyone that it WASN'T really torture. I think their decisions for interrogation methods put our troops in harms way if captured.

Patrick   May 13th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didnt the same kind of distress happen during the Vietnam War? Soldiers beat each other silly all the time and it was never mentioned, yet when these vets come home and have a breakdown, we turned our backs at them. I dont know of many Vet's from that war going for 5 tours and come home with a smile on their face like nothing happen. I bet morale is at an all time low and I think the Bush administration should be held responsible.

Sharone   May 13th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Ok, you must be kidding, Obama has been in office a little over 100 days – honestly he has done more that Bush did in all of his years in office, and I am a republican. I don't feel sorry for Obama, it will not be easy but he is on the right track for sure

Gail Pursell Elliott   May 13th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Rick, I am coauthor of the 1999 book Mobbing: Emotional Abuse in the American Workplace. The pattern of harassment described by Sgt. Russell's father sounds suspiciously like this syndrome.
Mobbing is a malicious attempt to force a person out of a work environment through isolation, intimidation, harassment, discrediting and is engineered to look as if the targeted person is at fault. People subjected to this can be driven beyond endurance. Some of the statements from Mr. Russell that caught my attention were that "they told him he didn't belong there and they were going to force him out" if accurate, are typical of this issue.

Jean   May 13th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Re: Elizabeth – I often wonder why do people go on TV and tell all their personal affairs. They do have their reasons. This lady should not be judged and condemned about this for, as the saying goes: "Never judge a person unless you have walked a mile in their shoes." She has been humiliated by her husband's infidelity. This has become a national topic. Therefore, she had her reasons for speaking out on Larry King Live and writing a book. Other people write books on worst matters and expect the public to read it. So what's the problem?

Julia   May 13th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Tell these Catholic protesters to FIRST worry about their pedophile priests and then worry about the President and his speech....talk about getting your priorities straight!!!!!!!!!!!! Easy to keep hiding these creeps in different parishes but a 5 minute speech from the Prez. is so hard to tolerate???

Rick, I just wanted to let you know that I think you have the BEST news show on TV. I watch it everyday at 1 in the afternoon. I am retired and your show and ESPN are my two favorites. I believe CNN should have you on for two hours a day.
keep up the good work. you are the best because you say what is on your mind and that great.
thank you
Ric

Torture, what you mean sleep deprevation, being slapped with an open palm, hand-cuffed to the floor, solitary confinement, electrocution. I rather be waterboarded!

Sharone   May 13th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Obama should NOT go where is is not wanted, to heck with Notre Dame, he can use his time else where

Col. Michael McDowell, USA   May 13th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Rick, enough of this old goo claiming the Army "broke" his son!! He wasn't there and he doesn't have a clue what caused his son to go on a murderous rampage!! What do you expect the family to say after something like this happens!! Whether it's Casey Anthony, Scott Peterson, or even Paris Hilton, parents cannot be objective when a major incident of this proportion occurs.

Bill, Upper New York State   May 13th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Rick, current medical science research indicates sexual orientation may be set in the 1st trimester in the hypothalamus and related to testosterone levels then. If this is true, then (aside from the porn industry) homosexuality is NOT a choice! Give gays and lesbians equal rights to military service and civil marriages.

Col. Michael McDowell, USA   May 13th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Rick, torture is torture is torture!! We are a much better nation than those barbaric countries who practice such inhumane and illegal methods. How anyone can say it is justified shows that some people have no moral compass and will do anything in the name of "National Security!"

Amor   May 13th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

I have a cousin in the National Guard who was given cheat sheets the second day she arrived for aviation training. This went all the way up.
This is what our government has to offer, which is scary and dangerous. We have our nerves to ask why all of a sudden planes are crashing?

Col. Michael McDowell, USA   May 13th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Randall Terry is an idiot! Why give this radical fanatic airtime when his record and justification for the murder and killing of abortion providers has been well documentated in the past.

C Blake, Detroit -- yesssss, THAT Detroit   May 13th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Hey, Rick - on a day when tons of food and medical supplies are shipped to people in need all over the planet, largely through the efforts of people we call saints, how can so-called civilized people even consider a rational discussion of torture?. I'm tempted to write required reading tome on civilized behavior and rational thought. "Devil made me do it" never did wash. Mercy mercy mercy.

mylifesendeavors   May 13th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Rick, why is Notra Dame making such a big stink over this issue. Do they know that the Pope was an admitted Hitler Youth. Would they decline a visit from the Pope?

Patrick   May 13th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

An idea to save Social Security
1. Get rid of all illegals that are collecting it.
2. Make it mandatory for all government employees (that is from the President on down) to contribute to it just like John Doe does.
3. Abolish the IRS and take those tax dollars and add it to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. That would still make the payroll taxes at nearly 30% so Joe Worker isnt losing any money.
4. Cap the deductions at 30% across the board. The rich will still pay more than the poor.

Phil Entrekin   May 13th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

I am a retired LTC, US ARMY and I do not understand this water boarding issue. We court Martialed a Lieutenant Colonel and 3 Captains (all in special forces) for water boarding in Viet Nam and all of them spent time in prison.
The precedent has been set.

Col. Michael McDowell, USA   May 13th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Too bad Randall Terry's mom didn't believe in abortion.

mary calvanese   May 13th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

As a Catholic I strongly disagree with the position of the Bishops and other Catholics protesting President Obama's appearance at Notre Dame. He is the President of the United States and represents all Americans – to me my fellow Catholics are being un-American. This is a political issue and not one of Faith. Would that the Bishops would be as concerned about the lack of jobs, poverty, a war started illegally in which they kept quiet, and my list of grievances is very long. I'm sorry but they are hypocrits. Because I supported Obama and continue to support him, these people would deny me the Eucharist which they have no right to do so. Because I supported Obama and continue to do so, they have called me every disgusting thing possible. They are NOT CHRISTIAN, they are Hypocrits!! Shame on them!!!

The phone did not need to be on noise or answered. Journalists should all know better.

The pics should be released, horrible as it is. We need to know, and we need to be open about it. We need to apologize for Bush, over and over.

Hey Rick, quick question. The sgt who killed his fellow soldiers doesnt seem to have a combat related job from looking at his ribbons, let alone his rank after so many years in service. So I ask what job did he have in the army that was so stressful that caused him to break. It sounds like someone was pushing his buttons the wrong way, and he pulled a columbine.

maimidogtrainer   May 13th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Patrick   May 13th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Obama has been in office going on 120 days now. Last I checked, the great presidents before him had barely accomplished anything in their first 4 months on the job. He has more issues to deal with than there are grains of salt thanks to the previous 'president'. If you want instant gratification, go microwave some popcorn.

Rose   May 13th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Hi Rick,
I think that it's all religious politics at Notre Dame regarding the
hypocrisy of the Catholic Church. We have pedophile priest in the church., and for that gentleman to compare Obama as the biggest Pro-Lifer and abortionist in the world. Tell him to go to Italy. He will find that in Europe most abortions are committed by the Irish and the Italians, and they are Catholics. So don't balme the Prez.

Col. Michael McDowell, USA   May 13th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Kudos to all the active, reserve, and retired military persons who speak out against waterboarding as a way to legally interrogate. If we allow waterboarding, then we will next be ripping out fingernails from detainees, electric battery leads to the genitals, to be followed by a bullet to the back of the head! We are the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not EGYPT OR SYRIA!!!

With regard to "photos" Obama does not want released:

I have a family member in Iraq. If said photos were to come out and they are as bad as I assume (considering Bush/Cheney seemed to allow whatever) as it inflames their nation OUR soldiers will suffer. Why doesn't anyone want to see that side?

Transparency is NOT as important as protecting the men and women who serve on our behalf. Period. Period. Period.

We are such a tabloid nation full of 5 year olds who want everything period no matter who suffers after the fact just so we can see/hear details.

Please if you have any respect for people who serve this nation, don't make a huge deal about this. Our commander and chief is simply protecting his troops for any possible fallout that could occur if a tense situation gets more tension. End of story.

Jgreiner   May 13th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

We'll see the photos when the officers who keep our service people safe say that it will not endanger them.. can this be a BAD decision?

Jerry Harris   May 13th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

The two nut bags that were on your show a short time ago wanting to ban President Obama from speaking at the graduation ceremony would be better served trying to rid the Catholic church of all the priest that are child molesters and what gives these two jerks the right to tell a woman what she can do with her body. Maybe they should get fixed to prevent them from having children if they are married, probably can't find a woman that would have them .

Victoria S. De Alba   May 13th, 2009 6:42 pm ET

Hi, Rick: I'm an avid viewer of your show. Keep up the great work!

But I have a question...Why isn't there enough coverage about Pa. jury rules epithet-laden brawl that led to Latino immigrant's (Luis Ramirez) death was not a hate crime? Would be great to investigate this further...

I understand MALDEF is working w/ the victims family and the U.S. Department of Justice to ensure that the actions of the defendants and the death of Luis Ramirez is fully investigated as a hate crime.

It appears that CNN as well as other media outlets only seem to fully cover Black and White stories. We live in a multi-ethnic, multicultural society, but you would never know...

Best,

bryce   May 14th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Rick will you for once get off you high horse and focus on the real message here! It was the Bush Administration that violated our treaties on torture and it was the Bush admin. that lied to America to attack Iraq and cause the death of over 1000's of our US soilders. It was the Bush admin. that let a VP continue down this path. do you not think the VP with all his experience even once did not know that the US was violating treaties. If I thought that it was in an emergency for our govt to use whatever was needed to save lives in America than the President has the right to approve whatever he or she needs to. Rick you know that that was not the case and the Bush Admin. was trying to cover their ass. It will all come out and history will judge look at the facts not the bull

Marilyn   May 14th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Mr.Sanchez, I can not believe you. You are a news reporter that should not be giving your liberal opinion about anything. You should just report the news. What you just said on your show about our lying speaker was so bias, that I will never again watch you again. Like many American the Liberal media has gone way to far and I might also say so has the right. You all are making it so hard for all the American public, by what you report.

CWO4 H. D. GLUECK   May 14th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Mr. Sanchez:
Nancy Pelosi made an ass of Dana Bash at the press conference.
I listened very carefully everytime Speaker Pelosi said she had no knowledge of the waterboarding during the BRIEFING. She learned of the actual practice from other sources, NOT from the briefing. Ms Bash was more interested in her agenda than she was journalism.
She FAILED to ask the right question
HDGlueck

Jamila Malluf   May 14th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Rick I know you dislike Obama and are a Bush man but why are you so very busy twisting Nancy's interview into something it was not??

She wasnt frazzeled or off base she was her typical eligant class A self. She spoke clearly against Dana's over reacting and false acusations.

She did well as ususal. What part of "The CIA lied to me" dont you undnerstand. That takes an awful lot of courage to say

I think you are working your way to the "Worst Persons" list.... I better get over to MSNBC and watch!!

Lee Usa   May 14th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Brian   May 14th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Hey Rick, Two things to mention: Love your show, hate the cheesy sound effects CNN uses everytime you go the "twitter board", you started something big. all the newscasts are using your format. You should get a real big raise! Second of all, Vicente Fox was a worthess president for his people. He was asked by our government in the nafta talks to raise the wages in his country, he didn't and was rewarded by our companies that moved there. Comprehensive immigration reform IS "Amnesty", like in 1986. As a son of a legal immigrant, Democrats want to reward people who came here illegally, who are taking job opportunities from Americans and then Democrats want to slap the tens of millions of legal immigrants who came here legally and obeyed the law in the face.

P.S. Mr. Fox, George Bush, Ted Kennedy and all those who say "They do jobs Americans don't or won't do" Stop insulting the American people! Americans will do those jobs for a livable wage, not the slave wages employers pay illegal immigrants...tell the damn truth!

Marty, Birmingham   May 14th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Those on the Intelligence committee are required by law to not reveal anything they are told. Also, they are briefed only – meaning they can't jump up and protest or order anyone to stop anything or run to any of the media.

Here's what I understood from Pelosi:
Sept. 2002 – she was head of Intel Committee. They were briefed on EIT but were told that waterboarding was NOT being done.

After the election, she became Speaker and was off the Intel Committee.

In Feb. 2003, she heard from a member of the Intel committee that the committee had been told that waterboarding had been used since before Sept 2002. That member of the committee wrote a letter objecting to it. Pelosi did not hear what was said (she was not at the meeting) so did not sign the letter.

Therefore, either the CIA and admin officials who were doing the briefing were lying in Sept 2002 or in Feb 2003.

The timing is interesting. The Bush admin was on an all-out campaign to fake reasons for the imminent invasion of Iraq. Remember the neocons were determined to attack Iraq even before Bush got into the White House. The admin knew there was no real link between Iraq and 9/11 but they'd rather commit a war crime (torture) to force prisoners to lie about the link, thus giving them a reason to invade.

Tracey   May 14th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Lew Peeples   May 14th, 2009 5:18 pm ET

Rick, what does it matter what Pelosi knew? She didn't order the torture, nor could she have stopped it. Remember who was in power in House,Senate and White House.Stop the madness of creating news that means nothing.

Tilahun   May 14th, 2009 5:56 pm ET

Hi!
you did a fantastic association today. Very deligent. The three terror suspects were repeatedly waterboarded eighty or more times till they drown in floodgate that took them to Baghdad – Iraq.
There are two inferences which can be extrapolated. Waterboarding which unquestionably constitue a torture system doesn't work at all. And if you indeed believe it works, there is only few response you seeking for some hidden political reasons.
These guys were waterboarded so often times only because the officials wanted some specific answer to tie Al-quaeda and Iraq.

Dick Cheney han never been successful while eight years in office as the last few weeks when he successfully waged preamptive strike against the Obama Adminstration on national security issues. Imagine the scrambles and flip-flops he got the adminstration into: no release of detainee photos as being tortured by US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan; the very likely reinstituution of military commission which Obama has already suspended, and finally the refusal to release CIA memos obtained by waterboarding. The long reigning 'preamptive strike' policy of Dick Cheney has finally worked against the Adminstration. Good Job, Mr. Cheney!!
Tilahun.

Sheryl Getman   May 14th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

I felt that Nancy Pelosi had her words twisted today. You and Dana were not hearing what she was saying. It was taken out of context and twisted like a bad pretzel. Nancy P. was very brave and stood against the Bush doctrine and against the Bush box of policies when there wasn't anyone else with the nerve to stand up to them. She has been continuously brave and hard working. She has been clearly against Bush and Cheny during their entire stint in office. I could hear the misinterpretation, today and the sensationalizing. I turned you off. Nancy does not deserve the poor treatment. Go after Cheny, his assistant, the lawyers. Talk to Henry Waxman, he knows from his inquiries and committee hearings. If you want truth, tax to Henry.

rich   May 15th, 2009 10:02 am ET

Question?? Why doesn't someone in congress get a bill passed to get rid of pelosi. She doesn't tell the truth. She won't know it if it looked her in the face. She has been doing this since she got in office, Doesn't any of the guy's in congress got the courage to go after her??? If a president did what she did, they would go after him, and they did.We need to save money, then we need to let pelosi go home, we can't afford her. The president said there will be change?? Well he needs to start making some big changes in congress. Cause also Reid needs to go too.He is in the same pot as pelosi. Also save money cut the pay of congress, across the board. Our fore fathers didn't make the kind of money they do.or get all the perks.Exspell the lobbist from washington. If a congressman is catch with a lobbist, he goes to jail and not pass GO.Plus he is exspelled from congress for life.Everyone knows congress has the REAL power. Thank you for your time.

I just saw the clip of the alleged Toledo police brutality. No one seems to know or care why the kid was being restrained. That information would make a lot of difference in deciding whether the police were being too brutal.

Andy Branker   May 18th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

The World and the United States in particular must stop pussy footing on the topic of Peace in the Middle East. Long before there were Hizbollah, Hamas, Iraq desire to have a nuclear weapon or Iran desire to have Nuclear energy Israel has been oppressing Palestine. Israel must declare their ownership of the Nuclear Bomb and free Palestine from oppression. Israel oppression of Palestine is much worse than the suffering of the Jews under Nazism. If the above statement is incorrect, it is more the reason to free Palestine. The Tactic of making Iran acquisition of Nuclear Energy is a smoke screen of Israel to continue the annihilation of Palestine. If Hamas is the problem, how is it that the West Bank is not a land of milk and honey.
Israel is aware that should Iran acquire Nuclear energy the other Arabs will acquire same as a counter to Iran. But, there is the possibility that without a peace treaty in the West Bank and Gaza, Iran and the Arab nations may proceed to acquire Nuclear weapons and train them on Israel. Someone must be bold to tell Israel that enough is enough. My belief is that there is not any nation in the World that is willing to pull the string on Israel. Whether Iran acquire a Nuclear weapon or not Israel is not prepared to have a two state solution in the Mideast.

The five fired officers should have been fired and now need aggressive prosecution and should be held to the highest standards for attempted murder, abuse of authority, criminal negligence and other charges! Any mitigation of induced rage should only be considered (if then) in the punishment phase...they are guilty on the prima facie evidence of tghe video of at least the aforementioned charges.

Reference the Credit Card Bill just signed by President Obama.

What about the Credit Card Companies that have already raised the interest rate, raised your payments even though you haven't used them and are trying to pay them off. They tell you that if you don't wish to accept the new changes, they will close the account and let you pay off the amount owed, you will have to re-apply for another Credit Card if wanted etc. These Credit Card Companies are doing all this before the Law goes into effect. We have received several New Changes to their new interest rates etc. The Bill isn't going to effect People who are holding Credit Cards now. It will benefit People when the new Law becomes Law, I think the Law is great, but for alot of people it is worthless. They are left with the Changes that are taking place now before the New Law becomes Law.

Don G   May 22nd, 2009 4:37 pm ET

Dick Cheney is talking about all the good stuff that was done by the Bush administration after 9/11. He is correct in that we reacted logically based on what had been done to us. If everyone will remember, we were pissed, demanded Osama be turned over and when he wasn't we invaded the offending country and also searched the globe for the enemy. So far so good. Correct response. What Dick is not doing is addressing the fiasco in Iraq. His aim is to try to distract us from the Bush foul ups by concentrating on the good stuff.
Another though regarding torture. Seems like perhaps waterboarding 2 or 3 times might be effective, but after the 30th or 40th time the subject might have figured out he really wasn't going to drown after all. Sounds to me like the guys waterboarding someone for the 80th time might have been doing it just to get their jollies, don't you think?

christa   May 26th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Rick, CNN has become Republican station, instead of being proud of your fellow hispanic nominator, you start with controversy . Why did Glenn Beck leave, I hated him, but you are getting the same way. No more CNN for me and I hope everyone who voted for our President stop watching you too.

I do not understand how the President's comment on Las Vegas hurt tourism in general. Everyone is hurting. The governor should not be complaining. After all, the IRS is having a tax Forum, which is a nationwide event , schedule at the Mandalay Bay, July 7th through July 9th. It is fair to say this forum is also scheduled on other days for San Diego, Orlando, New York, Dallas, and Atlanta.

Have we forgotten that laws come from man? should not a democracy be ruled by the opinions of the people? I think there should be no conflict between personal beliefs and the work of judges.... I really do not care where a judge comes from, what political and religious beliefs they profess, as long as they really KNOW what law is about. Show me one judge who hold no political views, practices no religion or has personal opinions about rights of individuals.........oh .......I forgot.......this is the distraction of the week......If judge Sotomayor knows the principles of law (fairness for all) Bravo.... wisdow is also found in diversity ..... find relevance in tolerance .

I have to say that I agree with Brenda, the problem is not only with credit cards, have you tried to refinance your mortgage, your car payments... not to mention your insurance for everything from your car which by the way you are not sure there will be parts in case you need them in the future..... to your home, life, health.... I can go on but I refuse to give up on hope..... actually the only thing I have now is hope and that is just because it comes with no FEES!!!! . I also agree with people who say that you create controversy....... do you???? I do not want cnn to become one more "place to get the news" I expect highly qualified people to report without any bias and people who will make me think......find relevance in challenging brains to work

Rick,
Love Your show & Lou Dobbs. You guys shoot from the hip and tell it like it is .
I wanted to bring something to your attention.
I went to a Bank of America location to cash a small ck 4 100.00 dollars.
Before they found that I did have an account, they requested I place my fingerprint on the check.
The Gentleman placed a ink pad on the counter and was adamant about the bank's policy.
I was a bit obstenate, and refused.
My comment was that as far as I know I live in a free country and their policy is unlawful.
Could you bring this subject up on a future show, and talk about the monopolizing of these big banks.
They also have aquired Countrywide and now I have to deal with this bank.
I have become so jaded with most big business in America, and where are all the Federal laws about thse co's and banks that wereimplemented yrs ago against Monopolies ????
Thanks 4 your time
Tommy

MR. JACKSON   May 28th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

MR. SANCHEZ, I AM A POLICE OFFICE IN THE MEMPHIS TENN., AREA AND I AM VERY UPSET OVER THE OFICER AND THE PARAMEDIC. THERE HAS BEEN, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHERE I AM ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD CONDUCTING A TRAFFIC STOP AND SOMEONE FAILS TO YIELD TO MY VEHICLE, WHILE IN EMERGENCY MODE. UPON MAKING CONTACT WITH THE DRIVER, AT NO TIME DO I LOOSE MY COOL. MYSELF NOR HAS MY CRUISER EVER BEEN HIT, THEREFORE , THERE IS NO REASON FOR ME TO OVER REACT. NOW WHERE A PARAMEDIC IS CONCERNED, I DONT THINK THERE IS ANY LAW THAT APPLIES TO ONE EMERGENCY VEHICLE YIELDING TO ANOTHER, ITS JUST A COURTESY. THE PROPER THING TO HAVE DONE IS TO HAVE GOTTEN THE UNIT NUMBER AND CONTACTED FIRE PERSONNEL ABOUT THE ALLEGED INFRACTION. THE OTHER BONE HEADED THING THAT THE POLICE OFFICER DID WAS THAT HE TOTALLY DISREGARDED THE SAFETY AND WELL- BEING OF THE PERSON IN TRANSPORT, THAT BEING THE LADY IN THE BACK OF THE AMBULANCE. ALSO, AT NO TIME SHOULD THE OFFICER PLACED HIS HANDS ON THE PARAMEDIC, WE ARE OUR BROTHERS KEEPERS. LASTLY, I HOPE THIS WASN'T THE CLASSIC CASE OF A MALE WHITE OFFICER VS A MALE BLACK.

I ask this question if people are returning dogs and cats to the animal shelter what are they doing with animals not native to the united states. these exotic animals in five years is going to be a big problem in America. We have fire ants and killer bees, bears coming into our neighborhoods cougars , other animals. When snakes mate with our native animals produce one that man can not control we are in trouble. Look at Florida. No one is tracking these exotic animals after they are sold no one cares. If they can't find food we are next. Read revelation in the bible this is real folks . Come on Mr President you want your children and your children to be these animals next meal. In North Carolina a deadly snake from africa spotted by got away. Let us not let greed destroy this country or us. Think about somebody.

Rick if justice is supposed to be bind, how can culture, experience, or race give any one person an advantage in deciding a case based on the law. I think it my help appreciate the circumstances but not in making a decision based on law.

Hello Rick Iam writting this email about daniel the 13 year old with cancer I heard that he not doing so well. I like to say that it not right making a young man do something that he does not what to it his body. If this young man do a bad crime then they would treat him as aduit. It not fair. Dave

I am deeply saddened when anyone is murdered but Im also upset at how you have presented the case for a person who has taken the lives of innocents that had no voice or choice in what happened tp them in the womb. It would be a wonderful world where people did not murder anyone including babies.

Hi Rick,
In regards to President Obama's trip to Egypt; is the CNN team aware of the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed human cases of H5N1 avian influenza and that the first H1N1 in Egypt?

I have written twice since may 28, is there a reason I cannot see my opinions?????? Plus I have a question, I need an answer... I visited a government office today and did not see a picture of the President; I asked and somebody told me it was OPTIONAL and the person responsible for that office did not see it necessary to have that picture on the wall, however, I had been there before and had seen the picture of the previous President and Vice President??? My question is if it really is optional to have the picture of the current President on the walls of government offices. Please somebody give me an answer

adriana villasmil   June 5th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

I have listened to the President's speech in Cairo. I wonder what the world will think.......but to me the mere fact that we had an American President speaking directly to the Muslim people, is amazing......I do not want to go into the same .....(you know what) that seems to make ratings happy..ooor should I say ......the things that make happy ratings..... Above anything else...... to have the conviction to speak your mind is bigggg, to know that you will not make everybody happy and still say things that need to be said..... Bravo...........Despite what the experts say.....NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IS RIGHT ANYMORE....the thing is to keep trying what is good... and good has no nationality, gender, religion or political afiliation.....

Hi, Rick, don't stop working, great show!

My Q: who is the Internet Provider for James von Brunn's website? And, should this host company and others like it be held accountable for their direct involvement re subject matter?

I have a question about the Iranian turmoil. Some of the first pictures shown on the news have Iranian police forming a security line holding shields. On the shields it says "Police" - in English??? What's up with that?

Ronnie   September 1st, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Hi Rick, As we get ready for the second wave we have some good news from the WHO as fellows:

H1N1 co-infection with HIV

The 2009 influenza pandemic is the first to occur since the emergence of HIV/AIDS. Early data from two countries suggest that people co-infected with H1N1 and HIV are not at increased risk of severe or fatal illness, provided these patients are receiving antiretroviral therapy. In most of these patients, illness caused by H1N1 has been mild, with full recovery.

If these preliminary findings are confirmed, this will be reassuring news for countries where infection with HIV is prevalent and treatment coverage with antiretroviral drugs is good.

On current estimates, around 33 million people are living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. Of these, WHO estimates that around 4 million were receiving antiretroviral therapy at the end of 2008.
