Well, this happens sometimes. A discussion drifts off-topic slightly and gets a bit...tense.

Watch this clip as Rick tries to get a word in edgewise between columnist David Sirota and Republican strategist Cheri Jacobus. They're both great guests and very smart, but it's clear that their opinions clash from the very beginning.

Rick, love your show, but if you have David Sirota on again, I'm immediately changing the channel...and I AGREE with him! That was such a low-class and childish display from him yesterday. We ALL know what happened on 9/11. Cheri was right by not answering such an idiotic question – especially after being interrupted time after time.

Butch   April 21st, 2009 1:23 pm ET

problem solved; give 2 million each to 40 million people over 50, they must retire and stay retired, they must buy a new car,= 40million new jobs, 40 million cars to make,= total only 80 million dollers compaired to the billions being lost, econemy good.

On the Miss USA topic. The real question that is getting missed is How in the world does Perez Hilton get to help decide who represents the USA in the Miss Universe contest?People commented on his behavior on his blog after the show and seemed suprised. This is who he is and what he does. Miss California didn't drop the ball , the pageant did with their answer to this question. Who can we get to judge our show?

CAROLEAMA   April 21st, 2009 1:55 pm ET

When very smart and well informed people say, "George Bush has kept us safe".......No! No! It is only because the terrorists have not done anything..if isomething happens while President Obama is in office it is not his fault unless he had prior warnings and ignored them. Since a previous attack was precisely where the Terrorists attacked, the possibilites that the Twin Towers would be the target should have not taken a rocket scientist to figure out. It represents all that is about "money", which most Americans love....George Bush is responsible for the Iraq War...It seems wars are always about Oil and Drugs both of which Americans need and have a thirst for.

Daniel R   April 21st, 2009 2:03 pm ET

David was not blaming Bush for 9/11 as many conspiracy theorists do. He was merely saying that he could have done more to prevent it, and Cheri could not answer such a simple question.

Franco de San Juan, PR   April 21st, 2009 3:09 pm ET

We have the means to detect illegal traffic coming from the Southern Hemisphere, I've seen the radar balloons on the SW corner of Puerto Rico, why can't all the naval forces who are patrolling the Gulf of Aden and in the Indian Ocean, just waste all these small pirate vessels and once they get the message, the piracy ends. You have enough helicopter gunships aloft, there are enough radar planes aloft, judt spot them and waste them. Let's stop this political bah blah and do some action.

Reggie C.   April 21st, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Hey Rick,

Why are we about to waste millions of dollars on trials and legal expenses for this 'pirate' when he should just have been made to 'Walk the Plank!' Like pirate law dictated centuries ago. As for his smile – well why not...he faces a future of 3 free meals daily and shelter, in America, for the rest of his life. A lifelong dream of all his compatriots, I'm sure!

Sean Idell   April 21st, 2009 3:15 pm ET

How sad it is people want to defend this pirate, solution is simple, take him out to the ocean put a bullet in his head then focus on putting George Bush in prison or better yet lethal injection.George bush should be held accountable

Lou   April 21st, 2009 3:18 pm ET

I don't know why the Republicans keep running their mouths about President Obama. He simply wants the U.S to lead again.

Charles Hobbs   April 21st, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Maybe we need to re-introduce "Walking the Plank"

JG   April 21st, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Why is the pirate not charged with felony murder? If a group is in the commision of a felony and someone is killed, all perpetrators, including someone that might be outside driving the car, can be charged with felony murder. Three pirates were killed. Charging with piracy does not make sense.,

Kevin Whelan   April 21st, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Re Pirates,
Hey Rick,
16 year old Pirate!! I doubt it very much......would his three (dead) compatriots send a 16 year old to negotiate with the captain of a US warship. This guy is smart and he's going to make a monkey out of the US justice system and cost US taxpayers millions. Why wasn't this guy turned over to the Kenyans.

Thomas Hogan   April 21st, 2009 3:21 pm ET

On the CIA Issue... We Should have kept it private. But, Now thats it is out. I dont believe anyone should be prosecuted. Period. Because no matter which tactics we used to get info out of the hostle terrorist. you can rest assured it was more humane than what tactics they are using. Some just downright silly, yet the information derived from this saved countless american lives.

HIH   April 21st, 2009 3:27 pm ET

1st, If it is about our health/ our lives, I am ALL about torture, 2nd about the pirate – eye for an eye tooth for a tooth, give him what he deserves no mercy, 3rd Who the heck is so dump to let Perez talk, we all know that he is gay, of course he will ask that sort of question, STOP giving Perez SO MUCH attention., Love your show Rick

Roy Campbell   April 21st, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Prosecution of Bush adminstration officials will sow the seeds for a future civil war. I think that President Obama knows this and will not pursue them. But he does have to throw a little meat at the far left.

jonlkra   April 21st, 2009 3:28 pm ET

re teenage pirate: age on the high sea as a pirate not a consideration.
He lives in a culture without consciounce or respect, also not a consideration. He was/is a ruthless thug. Don't debate it, put him away and show that world we won't put up with pirate nonsense. Don't tread on us...we bite! It's time for cargo vessels of the open sea to arm themselves...who's kidding who (and why should American taxpayers, again, pay for the protection).

Carrene   April 21st, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Rick, In reference to the Ms. America Pagent. Whatever happened to honesty. I would rather she be honest and true to her feelings than political correct. Whatever happened to Freedom of Speech and her opinion whether I agree or disagree. She was great in every aspect and the one thing we all push for HONESTY caused her the crown. Something is definately wrong with this society.

Uche   April 21st, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Perez Hilton has a long way to go and he obviously has no business being a jugde in the Miss USA pagent. Miss California did not insult him personally, she only said what she believed in. He is really offensive!!
By the time this whole gay issue is done, some of us will have to declare if we are for or against gay marriage before we can get the basic things of life!
Miss California has earned my respect for standing up for what she believe regardless of what the cost is...Go girl!

Thomas Hogan   April 21st, 2009 3:48 pm ET

This officer was clearly out of line!.... And should be reprimanded! Not like the poor Dallas Officer that was forced to resign for simply doing his job.

HIH   April 21st, 2009 3:50 pm ET

We all know that reporters love to stick their nose everywhere 24/7 but that Cop should be fired, and never ever again be allowed to be a low enforcer again

Reggie C.   April 21st, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Clearly, more psychological evaluation needs to be done periodically, and frequently, to our members of the police forces, nationally. This officer obviously had some pent-up anxieties, waiting for release. Thankfully, he didn't pull his gun, or this may have been a tragic report.

Steve   April 21st, 2009 3:52 pm ET

The reporter was wrong and as is typical pressed their "right to report" past the legal limits. The officer over reacted and when the reporter agreed to go he should have let him go. It would have saved them both a bunch of time and paperwork. The officer was upset about the wreck at the scene. The reporter failed to recognize the emotions of the officer and should have left when ordered. A simple "yes sir" was the right answer. When the reporter agreed to go, the officer should have said ok and watched them go. Both over reacted.

Sid   April 21st, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Hey Rick

Does the Boston Craigglist alleged killer look like Jeffery Dalhmer?

Jess Johnson   April 21st, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Hey Rick,

I really love your enthusiasm and your passion during your segments. I live in Los Angeles (12% unemployment now) and since losing my job, my one bright spot is seeing you give your own spin on the local issues.

Ok, I think I am going to skip Texas if I ever drive across country. Between the officers in Houston not allowing a man to see his dying mother-in-law, to the idiot in El Paso.

There is a rumor that Gov Perry wants Texas to leave the Union! Lord, I hope they do!

Kem Neal   April 21st, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Rick,
That police officer has most likely done worse to El Paso citizens; only this time he was caught on tape... That officer should be fired.
Love your show Rick... It is very informative...

What was the correct answer for Miss California supposed to be? Obviously, you can't be honest and give your own opinion if it disagrees with Perez Hilton. How does the answer Miss California differ from President Obama's opinion on the very same subject? Answer: There is no difference.

tony   April 21st, 2009 3:56 pm ET

that just go's to show police are given to much power and most are under the allusion that they themselves are above the law just like here in houston where they shoot u in ur front yard

Ron   April 21st, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Hey Rick Reaching for oxygen here after seeing that clip with the reported and cop. I do believe he was a bit over assertive and should have been paying more attention to the situation at hand aka "The accident".

Rick Eubank   April 21st, 2009 3:59 pm ET

The police officer had the authority to tell the reporter to leave, the scene belongs to the officer. The report pushed too far with officer and deserved what he got. Don't piss off the police, you won't like the results.

Hello Rick I'm from Canada, to call the incident between the reporter and the officer ploice brutality is a stretch. I know from my experience with officers up here, that police brutality involves repeated blows to the neck and/or head for stealing a pair of shoes which costed me over $1500 CDN for a lawyer. And the crazy part was that i did not resist. This story only shows that police officers are stretching the already long arm of the law. Obviously the officer was not threatened by an innocent journalist. He was just lucky that it wasn't 5 officers shoving him against the hood of the truck, beating him sensless almost to a point of concusion which happened to me. Thats my 2 cents.

Nathan Greene   April 21st, 2009 4:15 pm ET

So I write me a well-composed message to "Mr. Inarticulateness" (I know it's in the dictionary, but so are a bunch of other cockamanie words that ain't oughta be there) and because I didn't notice the name and email boxes, my message is not sent. So back up, only to find that my entire message has been erased. Sorry, guys and gals, but I'm a low-tech guy and I know low tech when I see it.

Sen. Ted M. Kennedy of the vastly wealthy Kennedy political dynasty is perceived to be a man of honor who wants to help everyone in need, is well remembered by me as the man who cowardly left the late night scene at Chappaquidick by swimming away from Mary Kopecnik, a late night party pal (while he was married), who drowned in his automobile after crashing over an end-of-road barrier into the lake.
He swam to the other side of the lake, didn't report the accident which was finally reported by "the family" the next morning after consultations with family lawyers, etc.....and the media just backed off of the story and whole thing was buried just as Mary Kopecknek was buried alive in the car without his help of rescue. Here's to Ted, where were you to save your late night galpal who was in mortal need? I have disliked you, your politics, and your BS ever since.

Mike Miller   April 21st, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Late 1990s: String of US Embassy attacks around the world(i.e. Yemen). 1993: First attack on the world trade center. 1992: UAE offered Ben Laudin to U.S., but Bill Clinton did not want him. 2000: Attack on the USS Cole. Now, 8 months into President Bush's first term as President he received a "non-specific" memo on a possible attack. You may not like George W. , BUT THE 'OLE BOY KEPT AMERICA SAFE AFTER 9/11/01.

Joy   April 21st, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Re: your footage of the Brazil shootout. Let's be honest here, in the US 10% of the population own 70% of all wealth. 1% owns 35% of all wealth. The bottom 40% of our population own 0.2% of wealth and the bottom 60% only owns 4% of all wealth. We are a deeply stratified society and it's rarely brought up though other nations inequalities are brought up.
I tried to look up land distribution in the US, but found almost nothing. I found one site which said that 3% of the population owns or controls 97% of all private land, but I don't know the validity of that. I wouldn't be terribly surprised. (And yes, I do understand that land in cities is more valuable than land in rural areas.)

The officer that arrested the reporter near El Paso exceeded his authority. At best he should have said just stay out of the way and safe. It was a police power trip, that needs moderated and not just for reporters.

I am a Somalia American, just thought I put things in perspective for viewers from our side of this piracy situation. Our waters have not been respected by the international community, we have been the victims...the world’s piñata. Illegal fishing, toxic dumping , and illegal prosecution, by many of the Europeans nations, well at least the “pirates” have not killed any hostages yet.

Hey Rick,
There was nothing wrong with the answer Miss California gave to the self admitted gay man that asked her the question that he was all too well aware was controversial. She answered it as well, I think, as anyone could have considering the subject matter and the situation in the USA today. The Miss America CEO and others had no business putting anyone in as a judge that is gay simply for this very thing. Why have a gay man judging a young ladies beauty contest? Send his butt to Iran and see how long he lasts. He was simply trying to get some attention for himself at the expense of a, or any, straight person. He couldn't have been put in a better place to do it. The Miss America CEO is responsible for this. I say THREE CHEERS for Miss California.

Jim   April 21st, 2009 6:29 pm ET

Hey Rick, why is it when certain people kill someone the replies go something like "oh I can't believe it" "he is college educated" "things like this don't happen here" " He is such a wonderful person", I would love to see a reporter ask that person this " So where does things like this happen and what people normally does something like this? I think I would pay to hear those replies

Rich O   April 21st, 2009 7:15 pm ET

Rick, your other commenters are much smarter than me but it appears that there is a knee-jerk reaction to a label called 'piracy'. Once again we are looking at the scenario through our own eyes, something Obama is trying to bring to world attention. A very wise man once said, "If you continue to steal your neighbors bread until he has none, you better watch out for your bread!" The rich nations have stolen the fish off Somalia and poisoned their water with toxic wastes. Labeling an action as 'piracy' certainly does make us look like the good guys here.
(quote): "Over $300 million worth of tuna, shrimp, and lobster are “being stolen every year by illegal trawlers” off Somalia’s coast, forcing the fishing industry there into a state of virtual non-existence."(unquote)
Who is the pirate?

Nathan Greene   April 21st, 2009 8:13 pm ET

Why is my comment in the moderation queue? Is it because I misspelled 'cockamamie'? Or perhaps because I faulted Rick for using a clumsy word like 'inarticulateness' in an effort to measure the articulation of a very young, earnest and plain-spoken person against an unduly high standard? Really, now, CNN, have you become that wary of energized, if innocuous, opinions?

JustJoe   April 21st, 2009 8:17 pm ET

Unlike the previous recently aired episode of the Police Officer from Texas stopping the football guy (while his mother in-law died in the hospital bed upstairs) in this case the cop is completely WRONG – Here in California our press can get press plates and official press ID that allows them to cover stories with the full admonition that one) they will not interfere directly with a scene and two) they are there COMPLETELY at THEIR OWN risk – Unknown if Texas has a similar policy but in any case this cop was way out of line. Not off subject but while viewing this you will see with your own eyes the reporter can't leave because the cop's hand is still clearly gripped onto the guys belt (rear) at all times. This cop new from the point he jumped over the fence/retaining wall that he was "in charge" and someone was going to jail – whether they broke the law, disobeyed a lawful command of a police officer or were their on official press business.

PWalton   April 21st, 2009 8:29 pm ET

I appreciate that you folks work to give us opposing sides of an issue so that we can form our own opinions, but choosing Cheri Jacobus is insulting to the intelligence of your viewers. She clearly only knows GOP talking points and cannot think for herself, especially when faced with failures of the Bush administration, as David Sirota pointed out. If we wanted to hear biased nonsensical viewpoints approved by the GOP, then we will watch Fox News. We expect a great deal more from CNN. Surely you can find a rightwing guest who is better than Cheri Jacobus, who can answer a direct question and can bring real value to the debate .

nicky sims   April 21st, 2009 10:09 pm ET

She believes & thus speaks the same razor straight party line division which is hindering this country and dragging it backward in a chokehold; what do we want: to be "right" or have a country called "USA"?!!

AJ Ghear   April 21st, 2009 10:58 pm ET

Re – Rick Sanchez's story about reproter being arrested as camera man films – I saw the news crew arrest story, on CNN, by Sergeant Ramirez. After over 20 years in police service, my Uncle, a retired police sergeant, was appalled, as was I, by the actions of the officer. It was apparent by not only the news video, but the statement made by the nurse that was trying to render aid at the accident, that this sergeant should not, under any circumstances, be allowed to have contact with the public. It is quite apparent that his temperament is not suited for public interaction and he appears to be suffering from some sort of authority issues (God complex?) We are very surprised that an officer with his temperament has even been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. The citizens of El Paso should be concerned and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I won’t be visiting El Paso, or driving through for that matter, for fear of running in to Sergeant Ramirez. Based on the interview with the Police Chief, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the department to take any serious actions either, you’ll probably die of blue face. If I were the news crew members, I would definitely be discussing this incident with an attorney…

Joshua D   April 22nd, 2009 12:05 am ET

Rick, awesome show. Glad to see you on CNN after watching back home in Miami on WSVN.

Fact is, the Bush administration was repeatedly given solid intelligence of an impending attack on the United States. In knowing these repeated threats, even when we were attacked and thousands perish what does he do? He sits in a classroom for 7 some odd minutes. It is the responsibility of the press to inform the public of plans for invading Iraq by the Bush administration as first thing. Once the knowledge becomes mainstream, is it too far fetched to say Bush allowed 9/11 to happen for his war in Iraq? Where are the weapons of mass destruction? Surely we see no progress, other than the billions in Haliburton and bush-co no-bid government contracts. You see, the thing about the Truth is.. You can hide it for some time, but not for long.

Bush received hard intelligence of impending attack on the United States. Bush repeatedly does nothing. The United States is attacked and 3,000 American lives are lost. In my book that makes him just as guilty as those responsible. I'm happy we live in a country not easily deceived where a great percentage of Americans feel the same way.

To the Press, the ball is in your court. Pick your side and do your job. The truth is here.

Les   April 22nd, 2009 1:36 am ET

Jess,

When I saw you are from Los Angeles, I think back on a little incident with Rodney King... now that was a real beating. I know I was upset and remember jumping off the couch upset at what the video showed. But I was equally upset withthe Riots that occured after that – the casualties included 53 deaths, 2,383 injuries, more than 7,000 fires, damages to 3,100 businesses, and nearly $1 billion in financial losses. Way to go LA, set the example for the rest of the country. Thentheir was the poor truck driver gets creamed and you guys don't convict the crazy person that pulled hiim from his cab and through the brick at his head. And what happened to Rodnet King – I beleive he was awarded $3.8 million in a civil case and then went on to be arrested at least half a dozen more times for drug/alchol and other issues.

So by all means, please avoid Texas, we all would appreciate your effort to do that. I'll do the same in your Great State.

:::REPORTER ARRESTED AS CAMERA MAN FILMS:::
There is a time and place for a nosey reporter to do there job and its not okay for a reporter to interfere with a police officer while he is doing his job. Couldnt that reporter have waited until the police left? He couldnt have waited until the officer was done with the accident report? He should have respected the authority and left when the sgt. asked him to. Who does that reporter and camera man think they are to just ignore his orders and try to play inocent? Technically that reporter was resisting arrest because he was questioning the sgt's orders.

Bruce D. Williams   April 22nd, 2009 2:44 am ET

Hey Rick, I know this is a leftwing blog, but I got to say it. Marriage is between one man and one woman and Former President George W. Bush kept this Nation safe after safe waterboarding (Navy Seal Training) or not!!!

Robert   April 22nd, 2009 4:35 am ET

Being a citizen of El Paso and having a few friends/co-workers serving proudly in the EPPD, I have to say that the sergeant was out of control. Officers (especially seasoned supervisors) should remain cool and calm under pressure. This incident is hardly anything that would constitute a stressful situation. If this officer showed such poor judgment while being recorded by a member of the press, what kind of extreme action has he taken with ordinary citizens who aren’t armed with a cameraman? Maybe that’s why he has twelve misconduct invistigations on his IA file.
P/S
Love the T-Shirts, I already ordered mine and plan to wear it in front of my cop friends. I hope I’m not in the next video on your show.

Janie   April 22nd, 2009 9:21 am ET

Wow! That sounded like me and my husband debating politics! I love it! But I think both people were right and both people were wrong. Since 9-11 we may have been kept safe, but it wasn't just Bush that made us so. There has been an overwhelming cooperative response from all our allies all over the world working with us to help keep us, and a lot of other people in other countries safe as well.

omi   April 22nd, 2009 11:15 am ET

Rick, that office was doing his job. The journalist and the camera man were interfering and not following his warnings; therefore, they deserved to be arrested. You know that some of your people think they are untouchable and always challenge the laws. On the other hand, I really appreciate what you and other reasonable journalists have done so that we can learn more about what happened.

Rico   April 22nd, 2009 11:19 am ET

I thought it was sad. This is what the republicans been doing ever since they lost the election. They talk trash about everything the President does and avoid the truth. He asked her a simple question and she talked all around it and talked about things that had nothing to do with his questions. I am tired of the republicans who are clearly already attacking Obama for a run at the office in 2012. I wish they would stop playing politics because we are at a place where we can't afford to play these games.

Arnie   April 22nd, 2009 11:41 am ET

Regarding the Police arresting the reporter. It is NOT called a "police scene", it is called an "accident scene". People there are police, rescue people, victims, eye witnesses, reporters, observers, etc. The reporter was walking up to people, then after being told to leave, started to leave. He commented to the policeman that the camera man has a right to film (which he does) and he grabs him and ASKS him if he wants to be arrested. The reporter did NOTHING and says "no, i am leaving". JUST LIKE THE COP TOLD HIM TO. And THEN the cop changes him mind and arrests them both. not only should the police man not have arrested him, but the police man should be charged with assault for attacking the reporter. Reporters routinely arrive at accidents and this should be nothing new to the police.

Allan Engleman   April 22nd, 2009 2:06 pm ET

I ain't afraid to say it. The wars Bush got us into were exercises in Wagging the Dog. 9-11 was and still is a family vendetta between the bin Laden's and the Bush's. It is and was the Bush's fault, along with bin laden for getting us involved in their B/S.

Joshua D   April 22nd, 2009 2:23 pm ET

The reporter wasn't intruding and was doing his job of keeping those with power in check, and keep watch over the waters for abuse of power like this. This wasn't a murder scene, this was an accident scene. The reporter didn't do absolutely anything wrong. He was the victim of power abuse by a cop who obviously has issues with protect and serving the public and abuses his power. Was this guy a bully in highschool? His actions have no defense.

Al   April 22nd, 2009 2:38 pm ET

It's nice to see a President speak without looking down at something written for him. How did Bush ever make for 8 years

Kuriakos   April 22nd, 2009 2:41 pm ET

Rick, I have yet to understand why some of these people that are chosen to be on air feel it necessary to avoid answering the question posed to them. It is as if their arrogance supersedes conversational protocol. As the host or mediator of the discussion there should be a mute button that can be used particularly when the host is attempting to control the "testy" conversations that digress into confusing noise. At that point no information is being exchanged and healthy debate is lost to chaos. I know it makes for good drama, but isn't it good responsible journalism that gives the people more of what they need than what they want?

Richard L   April 22nd, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Rick...I am about as far left as you can go... but in keeping with the founding ideals of this country... the Miss California candidate gave a very thoughtful and truthful answer and did not deserve the treatment she got from Hilton, he was totally out of line and has hurt the Gay Movement.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   April 22nd, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Rick,

Don't ever have that lady on you show again. People with that much naiveness is the reason why. All I hear from the right wing is that Bush kept us safe after 9/11. But they never acknowledge that we were attacked on his watch. Why is that? I guess the truth hurts.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   April 22nd, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Rick,

How many articles of the Constitiion did they violate to keep us safe after 9/11? We should never compromise our Constitution and that's precisely what the Bush Administration did and now someone has to pay for it. Did they seriously think they can just break the law and get away with it? No one is above the law!

Today there needs to be 2 separate steps. One Civil Union that everyone goes thru. This is the legal contract that we enter into to share our legal life with another person. A Religious ceremony that is the personal event and has nothing to do with the government or legality. Perez Hilton shows he is not a professional. He is a self made personality.

julie   April 22nd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

i am one to believe in freedom of speech i love to watch gossip and all but its funny how Perez Hilton wants t speak everything that spues out of him but cant take someone elses opinion. Ironic. I can oly hope that when DonaldTrump hires a judge for a pageant he can select someone to judge on the subject @ hand. or ask all the same question.

clara counts   April 22nd, 2009 3:50 pm ET

when a horrible vile man like that can judge a beauty pagent that girls allover the u.s.a. work for years to get there there is something wrong.he shouldnt be allowed on the air.[clara counts]

Larron Moretti   April 22nd, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Why is everbody just blamming Bush, when in fact congress (And yes there where democrats in this to)went along with all of this. But, i know Cnn wouldn't dare say anything about the democrats or this adminstration that is running this country into the ground . This goes along with Obamas plan to keep putting out all this crap so nobody can see what he is doing in the back ground.

Susan Thompson   April 22nd, 2009 4:08 pm ET

It's a fact! 9/11 happened on Bush's shift. It's also true that we have been safe since. We could also say that every president in the past (except Bush) has kept us safe, since it was the only attack on American soil.

More importantly is that we are continuing to do the best we can to protect our states not only from terrorism, but from exploitation as well.

Bruce D. Williams   April 22nd, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Yes, America was attacked in 8 months of President Bush's watch, but the perpretrators of 9/11; trained, infiltrated, and learned to fly under the supervision of then "DEMOCRATIC" President Bill Clinton. U.S. hostages were taken under the supervision of then"DEMOCRATIC" President Jimmy Carter. Attack on perl Harbor happened under the supervision of then "DEMOCRATIC" President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Anyone notice a pattern?

Bruce D. Williams   April 22nd, 2009 4:37 pm ET

Rick, (Dutch/Bad Newz, VA)
How many articles of the Constitiion are President Obama violating trying to take over the US banking system?

Kay Leipzig   April 22nd, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Rick, Ask Mr. Chaney during which session of waterboarding did he receive vital information. Was it #3 ,100, or # 266. Did he stop when he got what he wanted or did he continue . Does he believe the end justifies the means.

Dan   April 22nd, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Rick, regarding the torture issue:
It seems to me a Secretary of Defense and a strong Vice President with a desire to go to war took advantage of a weak President. The photos at Abi Graib shocked the world to be sure but it did something far worse. Instead of concentrating on Bin Laden in Afagastan we were told fed lies about a terrible threat of WMD in Iraq and we centered our efforts there. We understaffed a very few brave souls in Afaganastan to track down the proven threat.. Our actions at that prison, alledgedly approved from "the top" unified and empowered a ragtag group into a cohesive force that now threatens Pakistan, a weakened democracy with nuclear capabilities. The previous administration left much of the world in contempt of The United States and put the world in the most dangerous position it has ever experienced.

amy   April 23rd, 2009 10:44 am ET

I am a moderate i like to stand in the miiddle. But they were both acting like children. although it was entertaing when you were (rick sanchez) acting like a parent trying to stop argument.

Elizabeth Brantingham   April 23rd, 2009 1:20 pm ET

I was stuck in an airport watching this episode. Honestly- the question?..." What do you think the applause from the CIA employees meant when the President spoke? ""'

Analizing what applause meant? Please avoid spending all of this time debating the obvious...

Applause (Latin applaudere, to strike upon, clap) is primarily the expression of approval by the act of clapping, or striking the palms of the hands together, in order to create noise. Audiences are usually expected to applaud after a performance, such as a musical concert, speech, or play. In most western countries, audience members clap their hands at random to produce a constant noise; however, it tends to synchronize naturally to a weak degree. As a form of mass nonverbal communication, it is a simple indicator of the average relative opinion of the entire group; the louder and longer the noise, the stronger the sign of approval.

Mauraid   April 23rd, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Why should the parents of a girl who became pregnant before reaching the age of 18 have any say in her birth control methods? They were *incapable of rearing their child appropriately* so what gives them standing to interfere with how she decides whether or whether not to have a child. Any woman or girl of child bearing age has the right to decide what to do with her own body you dumb male twit!!!

barry bergmann   April 24th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

how much $$ is being spent on trying to come down on our devoted men in uniform who were doing what they believed was for the protection of our country. the pictures that they are coming out will be on osama benladin's recruiting posters within minutes saying to young arab recruits " I TOLD YOU SO".

Jennifer   April 24th, 2009 7:34 pm ET

REEEALLY!!! Bush didn't know about 911?! Let's face it he was NOT the most popular president and he was and still is an idiot. Obama had more popluar votes than Kennedy so let's not argue about that. Let's go to the fact that every time we saw Bush Jr or Sr they were playing golf or being treated like royalty in another country and not getting one thing done...OH wait I forgot Bush Jr left us with a legacy of debt and war. Honestly, how do you think he could run a country when he ran his own business into the ground and asked his daddy and their buddies for bailouts. Sound familiar? That's because BJ (Bush Jr) got us into this mess with the bailouts NOT Obama.

DMR   April 25th, 2009 9:53 am ET

The question of Bush keeping us safe is really not the problem.
Having prior knowledge of an attack is great, should be put to use to help squash that attack, but it works both ways.
Clinton had prior knowledge of the first WTC attacks and did nothing, maybe even helped in the attack.
If people remember when Rabbi Kahane was gunned down in NY, the murderer did not act on his own, and they FBI found in his apartment bomb making materials and info on WTC and other buildings.
Clinton also had a chance to OBL into custody, but did not. Clinton helped get M. Atta out of jail.
I think if Bush is guilty of torture, maybe Clinton is guilty of aiding terror.
The main duty of govt is to protect its citizens, and in the last 10-15 years our govt has failed, both sides of the aisle rather blame and point fingers ta eachother instead of getting off there lazy fat.... and working.
Time for a big change in Wash, and it needs to start with the career hacks in the senate and congress, they work for us not the other way around.

I'm waiting for this swine flu "pandemic" to be blamed on Bush/Cheney. Anything else that is wrong is all their fault. Obama is shameless about how everything wrong was handed to him and everything good he has created. Just curious – what is the pricetag of this first 100 days in which he grades himself with a big A+. I don't buy it. He's an A+ bullshi**er but show me the money(as just a little taxpaying , working American) I don't feel like paying for all of this payback to the unions.

Marco VErdi   May 1st, 2009 3:34 pm ET

From Canada to Rick Sanchez:
Hey Rick! Almost all the World admire Obama and also think Americans are fortunate to have such a President! Lucky you!
We think it would be nice if instead to critizise and avoid any positive participation to the new US Government, CNN and hits commentators should be helping with positive comments. This would help to speed the ending of present economic crisis and help the american working and middle class.
Thanks and regards.
Marco

How will Souter's replacement be affected by the fact that Barack Obama himself is not Constitutionally qualified to be President, is under Indictment by numerous Grand Juries, and, as such, may not remain in the office of President for a full term?

mark barron   May 4th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

rick,
i am so sick of these fake politicians, who lie, overspend and basically do not care about mainstreet. the likes of nancy pelosi, harry reed, barney frank, chris dodd, whom sat in gov.t and let this economy go thru this meltdown because they were so busy lining their own pockets, worried more with what kind of goverment jet a 727 or a 747 which one they were going to reserve for their weekley trips back to their home every week ,this is so absurd when there is so many people out of work and can't feed their children. we need and will kick these plastic politicians out of congress . nancy pelosi is sooooo fake it makes want to throw up! she's no. 1 to go the other 3 stooges ,barney, harry and lying chris!please put this on the air !

rick,
I feel the preident is doing a ok job , he needs to get off the health care banner for now and focus on balencing the buget first then we can focus on these importent subject's. we must take baby steps before we can walk , we must get the budget under control first it's like balencing a checkbook you don't spend what you don't have and that's what we 've been doing for too long! balence the the budget period!
Also, get out of afganistan, it's a no brainer , we can't win with military power ,it must be winning the hearts and minds of the people!
now for the taliban and pakistan we must wipe them out with a couple of airstrikes ,major bomb strikes and go in with unmanned
armored airships and wipe the remainder of taliban away and give the swat valley back to the people! no bootsoldiers from u.s. just from pakistan!!! that's it!
now, we need more town hall meetings with our congressman take back congress america!

This bubblehead, Cheri Jacobus, is not only a liar, but a very rude person who cannot stand for another person to speak their opinion.

She can yak her head off until the end of time, but the truth is Bush was WARNED several times about Obama. The FBI was WARNED about the flying school in Florida training the Saudi Arabians. These things are FACTS.

Bush was and is a miserable failure. All the lies in the world wont change that. Bush did NOT make Americans safer. Bush should be tried for War Crimes because of his authorization of the use of torture.

You have the best hour on TV News! I wish they would take an hour of Wolf (Robet) show and give you a full hour.

Your show is to short. Not that Wolf and Jack performances are not good I think you need an extra hour to interact with the public.
