Rick, what about Holders decision to let them war criminals (CIA, Bush ADMININSTRATION) off the hook. I told you Obama started out good then its more of the same old same old! Obama will not ever get my approval till he lives up to his campaign promises and things he said he`d do to make change! I voted for the guy because I figured he was our only chance, but he`s no different than the rest of those bozo`s in Washington D.C.! Revolution is the only way!

Anne   April 17th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Torture? How much torture do you think the people on the top floors of the World Trade Center went through when they were working at their desks one moment and the next had to decide if they wanted to jump to their deaths or burn to death? If given the choice, I'm sure they would have chosen a "tiny" room or water being poured in their faces or whatever else anyone might have made them do.

jkhal   April 17th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Yes, It,s torture, if anybody put me in a box with a spider or a snake I would totally freak!

TexasProud   April 17th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

I sitting here watching this and my speling was off because I can believe all the hate I seeing towards my state, I can not believe the small mindness and mindless zombies that are on here, I don't think you all really understand what is going on here, but u will wwhen your gas and heating oild go though the roof.

Themansmg201   April 17th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

About the texas thing, We should let them go! this country would be alot smarter. And they can take Bush with them

Darrell Bird   April 17th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Rick if we (Texas) did leave the union I don't think the rest of the country would ever hear about it, judging from CNN's coverage or lack there of the Tea Parties. What can't your guys understand this was a peaceful protest against the way the country is heading Repubicans are just as much to blame as the Democrats. Both parties try to keep us off balance by blaming each other while the our money heads out the back door.

Dallas Cowboys who?...The Packers are the real America's team!
(and I am a Dolphin fan!)

Mike   April 17th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

The "torture" methods described are NOT torture in the classic sense, because they don't cause permanent injury or death. The insect that was tossed was a caterpillar, not a spider or worse. These methods should have been kept secret, and still used. The exposing of these methods has definitely damaged America's ability to neutralize the efforts of those who are committed to America's destruction, showing how un-American you folks wearing Liberal Blinders can be, including the ACLU.

bartek70   April 17th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

what else can you expect from another republican texas governor perry has gone wacko

carolynn marshall   April 17th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

About U.S. and torture. Today's news is just the beginning. I have read accounts of Gitmo prisoners being subjected to electroshock to the point their brains were fried. Tell me how that resulted in getting useful information? Reportedly It was performed to frighten and intimidate other prisoners. The lid is off this awful can of worms. The American people deserve to know the whole truth and an opportunity to redeem our country's good name.

rich jones   April 17th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

I have read several times on this comment site, the notation given to reactions to actions by this administration being directly related to President Obama are because of " a black man in the White House." ie as racially motivated reactions...
May I remind these people that continue to throw this into Americans face to make substance from racial prejudices, that Mr. Obama is as much caucasion as he is black, and if one considers his upbringing by jewish grandparents, and primarily outside the "black environment," he is probably more white than black... the only people whom need to question anyones motivation for judging behaviors, either political or cultural, are those that cater to statements like" black man in the White House."...or "the first black President!"
We should refrain from any labeling and pray that the Presidents judgements in problem solving of our complex issues are sound, if not, no race will want to claim his ancestory.

Joseph Fashano   April 17th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

It is about time that the states break away from the Washington DC elite who are taking our rights away from us. Let them in Washington govern themselves. If it gets put to a vote I would vote to break away.

The airlines are now going to charge people to buy two tickets if they are over a certain weight. They keep ripping out the old seats and putting in smaller seats. What will be the weight limit to buy 1 seat (100 pounds)?

johnny   April 17th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Rick Perry can leave. He would save us Texans $10,000.00 a month we pay on the house he's living in. Plus, don't blame us Texas Democrats. We warned the rest of the Country about Bush and they didn't listen. Now I'm warning you about Rick Perry. Hope you listen.

Ella Thomas   April 17th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Dear Mr. Sanchez,
Your guest regarding himself as an expert on Texas politics made some valid points about what State's rights once implied. Do you remember when the late Gov. of Texas–Ann Richards bemowned all the federal directives from Washington and how they would cost in taxes on her state? Well...............I do. What state in their right mind enjoys all the programs started with initial taxpayer funding from all of us and then at expiration–these programs require tax hikes to maintain? Who can deny that George Bush 43 left as a bailout lion and Pres Obama entered as the same animal. A spending, bailout lion. Neither of them are smart with our money. NEITHER!

SGT Shem   April 17th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

TX leave...let's ask them for a vote. If they say we want out, we'll gift them Palin, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and other ultra-right wing fascists. If they decide to stay...let's throw out Limbaugh, Palin, and O'Reilly anyway.

linda   April 17th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

TO: Rick Sanchez: I thought you were objective, but you have taken what one man said and made it sound like he spoke for all Texans. That is like saying you speak for all Cubans because you was born in Cuba or Wolf Blitzer speaks for all Americans over 50. And you said there were how many people at the tea party and you think that is all the Texans in Texas, WRONG

Betty Rowe   April 17th, 2009 5:11 pm ET

Rick, why would I ,or anyone else want to share a tiny coach seat with a fat person. Remember, when you report, there are always two sides to every story. Get real!
Love your show!

RJ   April 17th, 2009 5:14 pm ET

I`m tired of Mexicans calling me a immigrant, no my ancestors were immigrants, I happen to be born in this country by immigrants that had their citizenship. My family has fought in many wars spanning over several generations. My ancestors also came over on a boat from Ireland to Ellis Island and registered with immigration and got there citizenship the old fashion way, they earned it! Oh by the way there illegal immigrant, they didnt have the welfare services that your people have come to depend on in which me the tax payer pays for. They made their way through hard honest work! Illegals deserve nothing, except a boot in the butt on the way back to mexico! Oh yeah take that sorry ass state we call Texas with them. Texans have got to be the most pompus people in the world well look at George W. Bush their representative!

Keith LaMotte   April 17th, 2009 6:52 pm ET

Your segment on torture today was a disgrace. You and your colleagues have force fed uninformed American with your description of torture without any context.

If you really want to know what the American people think about torture, why don't you juxtapose photos of how Daniel Pearle, the sodiers dragged through the streets of Mogadeshu and hung from the bridge in Baghdad were tortured with terrorists who were exposed to loud music, a slap on the face, and a caterpiller. And if you want to show waterboarding, why not just show the photos of the Fox staff member? It would be much more honest than the animated one you used that showed gallons of water being dumped uninterupted from a never empty bucket. You could have used a fire hose – it would have more dramatic – but no less dishonest. Fortunately, only about 83 people saw your disgraceful segment.

Michael Mullen   April 18th, 2009 2:27 am ET

I have become very angry at CNN. I have not and will not ever turn CNN on again. This past week you should me just how out of touch you guys are.
Good-by forever.

Why will I attend the next Tea Party? I am appalled that Americans are being denigrated for exercising their rights of peaceful assembly and free speech. I do NOT support socialism. The mortgage on our children’s future is worse than ever. I remember 911. Terrorism is terrorism. Napolitano should resign. I believe it is reprehensible that the President of the US is consistently apologizing for America’s historical stance on International Relations when most of the nations in which he is speaking would love to see our nation fail abysmally. This nation dips it flag and our president bows to no one. Political Correctness- ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I’m going to have to rethink my party affiliation. Perhaps Independent?

ty webb   April 18th, 2009 10:25 am ET

Rick,
Do you honestly consider yourself to be an objective journalist? How is what you do everyday any different than what you accuse Fox News of? Your segments on Torture, Texas' governor, and the tea party protests were hardly objective. You constantly have left leaning guests on your show and try to portray them as being middle of the road. It's okay if you want to analyze the news from a certain perspective, but please be honest with your viewers. Hannity, Limbaugh, and Oreilly analyze the news. They do not report it. Everyone knows what side they are coming from. What you do is far worse. You present only one side and pass it off as being objective. Have a good day.

AIRLINES AND FAT PEOPLE:
SW Airlines was unbelievably wrong when I flew last month!! They already knew my situation of not being able to leave from my Westlake Hills hometown (Austin) and having to drive over an hour to the San Antonio airport. For this joy, I spent well over $800.00 for an unplanned "have to" trip while advance flights were only $98.00 but that's another whole story! Keeping this in mind, I was then told the alleged boarding pass was not the real thing and to get to my gate asap. They reviewed my situation and allowed me onto the plane. Now the obese fat situation:
Upon entering the plane, the announcement said to sit in the 1st seat available. I did. I sat perfectly fine in the middle seat. I was then told by the steward I had to move. The guy in the isle seat had purchased 2 seats; therefore, I HAD TO MOVE?!! I was humiliated and I am 5'5 1/2" and weigh 120– I would say no, I am not fat. I asked both of the guys if they were comfortable and they said yes. I kindly told the steward we were all very comfortable and not to worry about it. I was then told firmly that I had to move & they pointed out the seat to me– next to a bigger guy crammed in the window seat! I requested they refund this guys 2nd seat due to the fact we were all fine/comfortable. Again, now 2 stewards demanded I move. I did. Unbelievable!! Now I was very uncomfortable because this new guy's excess could not blub-out into the isle. Being a people-person myself though, I never let-on. Both of these guys knew what was going on and I just laughed about it and again requested SW refund the other guy's ticket. They said they would not. There were other times on SW where he was NOT asked to purchase a second seat– it's just very subjective and wrong. Let it up to the passengers and we can figure it out. I had a lovely conversation with the second seating I was forced to take. It really does depend on one's own disposition of accepting our human physical conditions and going beyond that, delving into the beauty of the inner souls around us....

On Anthony case, I heard she was taking Zanax. The younger crowd refers to zanax as zanny's. Is this what she means by Zanny the Nanny? If the baby was given zanax, wouldn't she sleep? And be "taken care of" as in a nanny? Just a thought...

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! Congress, I realize you are not part of the population and of course, the anti-christ of this fine country, but i don't consider you part of my world. I am so disgusted with my U S Congress! They are ALL greedy power hungry mongrels who have nothing better to do with their time than bringing this country down the tubes. Ask yourselves why they bailed out AIG? This effort was for them also. Another factor that our American people hasn't heard yet is why Congress has not abolished the USFSPA act. Why is Congress giving my former spouse a cost of living raise when she did not do the time nor defend this country as I did? My former spouse gets this $$$$$ for LIFE no matter how many times she remarries. This is the act that former SECDEF Rumsfeld stated during a town hall meeting that he knew nothing about this law, but instead lied before thousands at the PENTAGON. Wise up America.

RICK   April 18th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

MR. Sanchez I was going to make a comment about how much of a moron you were and how bias your "News" reporting comes across, but it looks as though everyone beat me to the punch,,,, We finally get someone of hispanic origin on TV and he turns out to be a far left loon,,,
It is tragic how a great news organization (CNN) has become a bunch of leftist clowns,,,,,

Letty   April 18th, 2009 11:30 pm ET

CNN continues to talk out of their butts. Don't you guys understand that our soldiers are doing what they have to do to keep our country safe. Rick, why don't you do your part as an American and join the service. Thats what I thought you don't have what it takes to withstand everything that our American soldiers go through keeping those vicious prisoners from hurting any American. As for your coments on Texas, you make no sense. CNN you are going to continue to loose your viewers if you continue to speak out of your butts. Stop the IGNORANCE!

shirley roddy   April 19th, 2009 4:49 am ET

Rick, speaking from the perspective of a taxpayer for over fifty years ranging from a minimum wage earner at age 17 to a univeristy administrator earner, I think we are missing a very importnat point in our discussions about who should pay taxes. There is something far more important than the dollars involved and it is the individuals self respect, self esteem and sense of empowerment . I paid a percentage of taxes on my income as a minimum wage earner and realizing that I was a contributing citizen, never felt like a second class citizen which was empowering and I believe helped lead to my subsequent accomplishments. I think that when we have different standards for classes that we cripple rather than empower.

Floyd hoover   April 19th, 2009 6:59 am ET

Hey Rick.
Please comment on my idea regarding the tv digital box change over.
Go to Wal-mart – buy the box – attach your receipt to your income tax return – Irs can refund the governments share of cost to you..
Does this make more sense than spending millions for a stupid coupon program ? OOps 2 stupid coupon programs...Floyd Hoover

Rick,

Can you find out what has changed since Obama "opened
travel restrictions" to Cuba?

I am a US citizen and want to visit an elderly aunt, can I do that
now legally?

There are no updates from the previous rules in the State Dept
website!

Hope you can help?

Of course it was wrong for the President to shake Cavez's hand.
If he keeps this up, we're likely to run out of enemies. Then what would we do?

Art Belk   April 20th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

I Think President Obama trust Chaveg as much as he trust the party of no, but he still speak to them and shake their hands.

Bob H   April 20th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Rick,
Why is it that some are so anxious to prosecute someone (in the Bush administration) for torturing someone who admitted planning the killing of 3,000 Americans while saying nothing about the President's approval of the trial, conviction, and summary execution of three teenagers in a raft for whom we have no proof that they hurt anyone? I'm confused!!!

Ann   April 20th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

If you watched Miss US scores for swimsuit and evening gown, you would know that Miss California's answer didn't cost her the crown.
Miss NC scored much higher in each category, end of story..

Grace McGarvie   April 20th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

It is amazing to me how many of the sanctimonious and self-righteous right wing gay haters are hypocrites:

Newt Gingrich on his 3rd marriage and turning Catholic, espousing religious and family values after being adulterous on two wives

sexual pervert Bill O'Reilly

drug addict Rush Limbaugh

gambling-addict William Bennett

crime fighter Tom Delay

Heterosexual? Larry Craig

Dick & Lynn Cheney with the lesbian daughter

Dick Cheney's five-deferment draft evasion

Congressman & adulterer Robert Livingston of Louisiana

"Scooter" Libby's – lying under oath

Mark Foley who wrote sexy emails to male pages

"Friend of Indians" Ralph Reed

"Patriot" Grover Norquist who wants to drown our government

"Dear Old Dad" – Strom Thurmond

Preachers Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Haggard, Jim & Tammy Bakker

George Roche III president and founder of the most conservative college in America-Hillsdale, who was an incestuous adulterer with his daughter-in-law (she committed suicide when their many-years relationship was discovered)

Laura Schlessinger whose mother's body was found in her condominium having not been seen by neighbors for two months

Utah has more per-capita online porn subscriptions than any other state

and of course, last, but not least peace maker & alcoholic George W. Bush.

glen franklin   April 20th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Lets get it right
Mmarriage I thought and should be about Love That does not have anything to do about sex or sexual natures. Why do we go to sex instead of seeing the meaning as Love.

By the way the greatest meaning and ingredient that manifests love is forgiveness. Stop the nit picking of every action and word. It is very negative

carol   April 20th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

I totally agree with Ms Calif.she was honest not political and just stated how was raised and her belief. She is not a hypocrite regardless of the cost. She is not a sell-out just to gain a position, someone has to have morals in this country. I don.t care what you do in your private life ,just stop trying to force it on everyone else.Thank you.

beadnfool from Pa.   April 20th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Salim Abdullah   April 20th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

If she was judged on her answer then and only then is your Question relevant.

balanced bev   April 20th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

1)Yes. Obama should have shaken another world leader's hand. We have to get beyond silliness and self-arrogance to regain america's status in the world.
2) Yes. Obama should have released the memos regarding the use of torture. We have to expose EVIL. Bush and Cheney betrayed our public trust. Additionally, we should try to impeach the federal judge who now sits on a federal bench.

Isabelle Egan   April 20th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Miss California didn't need to be more political. She needed to be more diplomatic.

Alex   April 20th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

In response to Miss California's comments at Miss USA pageant...... By trying to mainstream homosexuality and imposing their sexually deviant life-style on the the rest of society, homosexuals are in fact DIRECTLY weakening the moral fabric of an already morally-decadent society – a society that is in deep and urgent need of recapturing its time-honored values.

ggs   April 20th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Rick, some people just keep wanting to do the Presidential campaign all over again–I guess they did not like the outcome.
Of maybe they do not understand a President who does what he said during the campaign.
He said transparancy–hence the memoes come out; he said talk to everyone hence the handshake with Chavez. He is exactly what he said he would do when we voted for him. Yo, the election is over; let the man do what he said he would do.

Ted Cherry   April 20th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Re: Ms America Pageant............... Frivilous discussion at best. Who really cares what Miss California thinks one way or the other? Why not dedicate your airtime to discuss things that are actually important. There is already more than enough BS on the cable news networks!

Hi Rick,
Obama is doing just fine by shaking Chaves's hand. I think that Obama needs to continue to reach more of our enemies because we need to get back using airplanes like we use to.

Thank You

Marie Strazzella   April 20th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Hey Rick,
I am a live and let live person. Saying that we all like people when they are honest, or do we? I don't think her answer should have cost her the crown. That is the apex of dishonesty, shame, shame on the Judges.

el don Rodrigo   April 20th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

If a person wants to be a homosexual that is a right they get to be. If a homosexual couple want to get married then that becomes a "special right." Heterosexuals or people who were married under the conventional means have no "special rights" and this becomes discriminatory.

Rick,

My heart go's out to her, the devils are taken over and it's time for christian like us to tell them like it is. marriage is for men and women not adam and steve. we as american are too sensitive over many bad isues; so we keep on forgeting the real value why god place us on this wonderful earth.

jloco1134   April 20th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

This is america, land of the free home of the brave. People brave enough to speak up against anything, a right some people are afraid to use. Gay marrage should be legal anywhere in the US. Let them be happy, we all want to enjoy the american dream, even if you need to be asleep to enjoy it.

Bill Bridges   April 20th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

We will never stop the armed, teen-age terrorists in the open sea. Our navy knows the location of their three home bases in Somalia, from which they operate and where their leaders are directing their operations. We need to blow those bases off the face of the earth, and stop being politically correct wimps like NATO.

ggs   April 20th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

I am an independent who has in the past voted for as many Republicans as Democrats but the Republican strategist you just had on is costing all Republicans my vote for quite some time. Now even keeping campaign promises is a bad thing–that is the party of no-–geez give it up already

Allen Hill and Dot Campbell   April 20th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

First of all, we believe that none of the questions asked by the judges were appropriate for a pageant. They were all politically motivated.

Having said that, we firmly believe that Miss California's response to the question on gay marriage cost her the title of Miss USA. We strongly admire her for stating her beliefs and not being "politically correct".

Sam Tappan   April 20th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Rick Sanchez,
If I were a judge in the Miss America pageant, I would not have thought that the contestant from California gave a good answer. That is not because she was against same sex marriage. It is how she said it.
She used the phrase "in my country". She did not express herself well. If she would have said something like, "in my opinion, in this country"
I understand that she may have been nervous. However, her language represented her overreaching. She gave a statement that first, made it seem like she was living in a different country, and second, gave a statement that the states that have passed gay marriage, are not "her country".
Again, I understand that she may have been nervous. However, I would not attribute her not winning the crown as being solely because of her position on gay marriage.

Sam Tappan

Kevin Boulds   April 20th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Hey Rick, Just wanted you to know, I watch the Mss America Contest Sunday night. From the beginning Miss California stood out and frankly I was hoping that she would win. When Perez Hilton, asked Miss California, wether she thought that because Vermont passed Gay Marriage, should the rest of the coutry follow suit. Miss California, was being honest and she did not agree with same sex marriage. Had she given the answer for Gay Marriage, Miss California would be Miss America today. I am Gay and 54yrs old, and I want human rights, equal rights, and the right to get married to a same sex partner.

Paul MS   April 20th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Hi Rick,
Why is this same sex stuff a matter of some one else being effected it.. My marriage is not the problem. The matter is of culture. Culture produces laws, and the laws become culture reinforced. Even nature doesn't have same sex mating. I thought we were the intelligent species. Why do we try to act like this country wasn't founded on the principles of the bible? Remember Sodom?

Chris   April 20th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Discussing gay marriage is like discussing whether a leopard should change their spots. Same sex love is a fact. It's been a fact since time eternal, not only in our species, but other species as well. Railing against what God has made is ridiculous and the heigth of human egotism. Who cares? It is what it is and I know 90 yr old gay men and women celebrating their marriages whether others want to recognize them or not.

F Walker   April 20th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Pres Obama was gracious and correct to shake hands with Pres Chavez. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin in me.

Nancy H   April 20th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

I don't think any means of getting information on past or future planned attacks should be stopped or made public. Have the people forgotten seeing some of our country men and others beheaded in front of camers? People need to wake up, and remember what has happened in the past, how many time this country and it's allies have been attacked by Islamic radicals. I also think that Obama should keep his mouth shut and his hands in his pockets!!!

Bobbie Hamblet   April 20th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Idon't believe that miss California should get any flak for saying what she believed in. Too many people in this country try to be politically correct. It's good to see somebody have the courage of their convictions.

Larry Guerra   April 20th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Rick, in the USA it's nothing new to profesional and polite to other leader around the world. Mr. Nixon was very polite to the china, Mr. Regan to the Soviet Union and Mr Bush walked by holding the hand of an araby leader. All the Above is all political. The republican party is trying to capitalize on the picture of Mr. Obamma. They want to see Mr.
Obamma felt.
Thank you
Larry

jenalb   April 20th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Rick, I thought that we were in the USA where we have the right to free speech. The pagent contestant had every right to tell the truth about how she feels about gay marriage and I give her kudos. We all are brought up with different values and I don't approve of legalizing gay marriage; but as long as their not bothering me I don't care what they do!!!!!.

Ludy McManus   April 20th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Rick, I watched the entire Miss USA Pageant and I personally applaud the answer of Miss California.
Besides, why were all the questions so political? What has same-sex marriage got to do with a beauty pageant? She contestant spoke her opinion about the subject she was asked and it most certainly did not cost her the crown. The winner got higher scores in each category. Wish some people will get a life!!

By the way............What's with all the commercials!

Rick,
RE: Miss USA.
The question behind the question was: "Should there be equal treatment under the law for ALL citizens of this country, regardless of sexual orientation?" Her answer was "No, not in my family." I for one was disappointed in her answer since anyone crowned "Miss USA" should probably agree with the current U.S.A. Constitution.

Daryl   April 20th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Marrage should be betweeen man and woman and if anyone who is god fearing know's it should be this way, enough already man woman, not bob and harry or jill and jane

mathew cochrane on   April 20th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Hey Rick, being a Canadian I'm all for individual rights. However shame on Perez Hilton for using the pageant to forward his gay agenda. Miss Cali was steamrolled by that question. There was no way that poor woman could ever answer that question correctly. What should be looked at is how she answered it ... she did great by sticking to her values and giving her opinion. Maybe she should replace Sarah Palin... at least she can speak. Perez Hilton sacrificed this poor girl just to get his mug into the limelight.

Greetings and salutations Mr. Sanchez, a few weeks ago you made some personal, albeit uninformed comments regarding the issue of DC private school vouchers. You stated you wanted the public to respond to your comments. I did, unfortunately, you did not come back to the issue with any sense of balance. Moreover, your comments were misleading if not inaccurate. That you would raise this issue and leave it with only one point of view is just as wrong and appalling as Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) alleging all DC public schools are gang members. Mr. Sanchez, your comments show how uninformed you are on this issue. It is regrettable your “claim of fairness” in reporting failed on this subject. You have listed the names of several people you have invited to be your guests, but have declined or not responded. You also asked the question "What are you afraid of?" You also say your show is about transparency and fairness. On this issue you have been transparently one-sided and unfair. I pose the question back to you Mr. Sanchez, "Are you afraid to hear from District citizens who have a different view and do support high quality public education for District youth?"

I do not think that Miss California's response should cost her the tiara. She is honest and said what she truly believed. On the issue of gay marriage,I think that America is a very strong country and values the freedom of her citizens to the core, but any civilization that threatens the core of it's existence and cohesion is a threat to itself. The family unit (one which represents the input of both female and male character) is very essential to ensure that our offsprings are balanced and well adjusted.
I believe that people who choose to be gay sholud be gay by all means but please let us preserve humanity!

s watkins   April 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

mr sanchez...a comment about the miss usa pageant and miss californias answer to same sex marriage..she was asked a question and answered it honestly, although witha few missteps in her wording of the answer..lets face it..beauty contestants oftentimes start out the process when they are small children, even babies, being entered into many pageants..they are not known for being politically incorrect with either their "platforms", or their answers to questions because they are (if they win) going to work for a corporation (middle of the road conservative and god bless america-thus the title of miss usa or miss america)..they have to be a bit non-committal in their answers..mostly what the miss usa pagent wants as opposed to miss america, is a gorgeous, amazon looking woman who can smile , shake hands and say, i am the epitome of the american woman (not really..)she deserves kudos for being honest (although the deer in the headlights look came upon her when asked the questionby a man i think is gay!!) thanks

Elissa   April 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

I would really hope Miss California did not lose the crown by answering a question honestly. That is, after all, what America is all about. We all have the freedom to speak our minds and opinions, and I would hope her answer did not sway the judge's opinions. However, if we honestly take a look at the medium of media today, one cannot help but come to the conclusion that we have a liberal, biased media, and the views expressed by Miss California have become less "politically correct" and are frowned upon by many liberal minded thinkers.

Claudio C.   April 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Rick what happened to freedom of speech! if Miss California's answer about gay marriage cost her the crown, then this beauty pageant shouldn't have the reputation to define a woman's beauty. It wasn't a correct or incorrect kind of question, but of opinion since gay marriage is still a debate.

Coleta Chatfield   April 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Hi Rick:

I just want to say something about the criticism given to Miss California. That Judge who asked the question regarding gay marriages, probably did not expect Miss California to voice out her opinion. She had the right to voice out her opinion on gay marriages. I think that judge was not being fair. As a judge to any contest, they should not be biased and should be prepared to hear/accept the opinion of the person being asked.

gg   April 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Why shouldn't President Obama shake Hugo Chavez' hand? He shakes John Bohner's hand and Newt Gingrigh? The Bush approach certainly didn't do us any favors. My wife (who is not from the US) and I were watching the end of the Miss USA P. and I told my wife that Ms. Cal. would not win because of her answer.
We were surprised to see her get to the final 2. Again, I said, she would not win because of her answer and that the only reason she doesn't win is the man that ask the question will not let her win.

Don Reynolds   April 20th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Regarding the hand shake: Rick, the majority of this country elected not only someone who would set policy we most agree with but also the personality we most wanted to represent us. The President's personality reflected maturity and security. A diplomat must, in my opinion, come to a potentially explosive situation with level headedness, patient wisdom, and security in who you are as an individual. I think the hand shake reflected the best of a responsible superpower.

Regarding the Miss America contestant: Rick, most species that inhabit this planet seek out environments that are conducive to the propagation and survival of that species. Homosexuality is anti-humanity, in that our species cannot be propagated nor survive if this practice grows. This contestant was only supporting the survival of her species and that makes sense to me.

Hi Rick -
Regarding the answer Miss California gave on same sex marriage This must be a slow news day Rick to need to engage your viewers on this but I couldn't resist. OF COURSE it did and not for the reason you allude to, that of politics. Can you tell me what is opposite marriage? She not only said it once she repeated it and I imagine the judges came to the conclusion that her remarks overall and the specific choice of her words reflected poorly on her ability to articulate sensible, intellegent answers and they did not want her representing us as Miss America. It is a disservice to imply that the vote of the judges was based on politics. Maybe you can't really listen to her accurately while looking at her picture in that skimpy bikini. Close your eyes and listen – then you will know why she is not wearing that crown.

Diana   April 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Hell yeah she lost because of her views. Do you really believe PH gave her points because of her stand? And shame on Donald Trump for allowing this sad and pathetic person to even be a judge. PH used this pagant to futher his agenda and put that brave woman in a position that should not have been. More people need to step up and say no to same sex marriage and stop hiding in the closet.

ON ISSUE SHARED ON CNN AT 1220 REGARDING "GAY MARRIAGE" TO MISS CALIFORNIA–#1 I AM A CHRISTIAN, #2–GOD DID NOT MAKE ANYONE "GAY"-IT IS A CHOICE PEOPLE MAKE THAT DEVIATES FROM NORMAL DESIRE FOR OPPOSITE SEX. GOD MARRIES A MAN AND A WOMAN–GOD DOES NOT MARRY 2 MEN OR 2 WOMAN–GOD CONDEMNS THAT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP –GOD PLACED MAN AND WOMAN ON EARTH TO POPULATE EARTH WITH OFFSPRING–IF THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE GAY OR LESBIAN WOULD HAVE THEIR WAY FOR ALL HUMANITY TO BE "GAY"–ALL THE HUMAN RACE WOULD PERISH IN 1 GENERATION–SOUNDS LIKE POISON. GOD DESTROYED SODOM AND GOMORRAH–AND NO GOD FEARING CHRISTIAN COULD PROMOTE THE GAY AGENDA-IT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND PERVERTED–AND OUR CHILDREN ARE BEING BRAINWASHED IN SCHOOL–THIS SHOULD BE A FELONY–THE GAYS WOULD DESTROY THIS COUNTRY AND THERE AGENDA IS TO HAVE GOD APOLOGIZE FOR DESTROYING SODOM AND GOMORRAH AND TO MOCK GOD WITH AN IMMORAL RELATIONSHIP WHICH BEARS ONLY DEATH–OBAMAS' PASTOR WRIGHT WAS RIGHT–THESE PEOPLE NEED MENTAL HELP PERIOD–ITS NO MORE THAN A CURSE OF SIN AND A DEPRAVED MIND.

Max – Information From Wikipedia, contrary to your statement......
"On the first day, Hitler shook hands only with the German victors and then left the stadium. Olympic committee officials then insisted Hitler greet each and every medalist or none at all. Hitler opted for the latter and skipped all further medal presentations.[8][9] On reports that Hitler had deliberately avoided acknowledging his victories, and had refused to shake his hand, Owens recounted:[10]

“ When I passed the Chancellor he arose, waved his hand at me, and I waved back at him. I think the writers showed bad taste in criticizing the man of the hour in Germany. ”

He also stated: [11] "Hitler didn't snub me—it was FDR who snubbed me. The president didn't even send me a telegram." Jesse Owens was never invited to the White House nor bestowed any honors by Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) or Harry S. Truman during their terms. In 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower acknowledged Owens' accomplishments, naming him an "Ambassador of Sports."

Re: Ms America Comments

Rick, I think she was being sincere in her comment. She clearly stated that it was great that American society embraced both types of marriages and this her political response. Then she made her ending comments on how she sincerely felt...are we upset with her for expressing her feelings despite her first statements which were intended for political reasons.

View from Canada: I just watched prez Obama live in CIA HQ. What a person he is, intelligent, smart, good natured, you name it all good. You are so lucky to elect him for he will bring America where it belongs, into family of nations. Now that we see him working every day we can tell how different he is from Bush who hardly worked and then he did such a bad job for you and the rest of us. I think Mr. O has done more in his first 100 days than Bush in last 1000. Of course the righ wing republicans are scrambling to find ways to put him down as this blond women right now. Hi Rick,

I keep hearing the argument that she stuck with her values and answered honestly. So let us imagine for a minute that this is the Miss USA pagent being held in the Spring of 1861, and the question that was asked while states are starting to secede, is "Given that now Virginia has seceded from the union, do you think other states should follow suit? Yes, I beleive they should follow suit because i'm a racist. I beleive that a white man has the right to own a black man. This is what my country and my parents have taught me. I'm sorry if this offends anyone out there but this is what I beleive. Now please tell me how being honest is commended?!?

Dick   April 20th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

it is rude for some political commentator to keep talking and talking when brevity would be appropriate. I hit the mute button to shut them off. Get some common folks on the show who can talk without the political bent that is so very, very frustrating with those who are "driven" and not fairminded. Interrupting is a sign of ignorance and being just plain dumb. Listen to her ranting... no, not me.

Holly   April 20th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Yes, Obama is keeping campaign promises. Why then do I keep hearing this in such a negative way? This man was ELECTED by a much wider margin compared to Bush(either time). I disagreed with Bush much of the time and was angrily labeled unpatriotic, do these people own a mirror?

Labmomal   April 20th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Rick,

The Freedom of Information Act revealed many documents showing that the Bush Administration ignored terrorist activity and indications of an impending attack. Why do the conservative apologists choose to ignore facts. How did pulling back military operations in Afghanistan as they were closing in on Bin Laden, so he could pursue his witch hunt of Saddam Hussein make us safer? This little tidbit also tends to be ignored by the Bush fan club.

I'm just pleased that we have an intelligent approach to international relations after eight years of "my way or the highway."

Re: Carrie Prejean comment Miss USA- Cuddos to Carrie!
Perez Hilton asked Carrie a very specific and extremely sensitive question, and she gave her honest and specific opinion. That's what he asked for and that's what she gave... her honest opinion. If her opinion wasn't the popular answer or wasn't the same as the judges, it doesn't make her opinion wrong... She was direct and respectful with her answer. Perez obviously sits on the other side of the fence regarding gay marriage and Carrie probably knows that he is gay. She could have just told him what he wanted to hear but she didn't she was honest and stayed true to herself and her beliefs. Does that warrant losing the title? I don't think so. As far as I'm concerned, Carrie should have won the title. She showed backbone – how refreshing!
Perez Hilton should grow up and realize that his opion isn't the only opinion and that's why we live in the USA, we are all entitled think the way we want. Hmmm... isn't that what Carrie said?

Everything that Obama does is being dissected like a frog in a 10th grade biology class. This so call uproar by others because he shook hands with Chavez and accepted a book is totally ridiculous and downright silly. What was he suppose to do, ignore the man and be a total jerk like Bush whose ongoing behavior and arrogance had other countries hating us. Bush was hated so much, that I am sure other countries wanted to throw their shoes at him too. Obama is trying to build a relationship with these countries – and yes, this includes rogue countries. There has to be a dialogue with these people. Fellow Americans – grow up and quit whining.

As far as Miss USA possibly losing the competition because of what she said regarding marriage between gay people; what was she suppose to do – lie? No contest is worth a person's integrity. She was asked a question and she answered it truthfully. I would call her a winner as well as stunningly beautiful!

About who order torture:

Does it really matter? I use to be in afghanistan and iraq as an
infantry man. No commander would order torture, instead they might say, "make them feel like us!" Or they may say, "Not to let them feel at home!" Soldiers take torture seriously, but the same time it is a joke in the armed forces. We beleieve what we're doing is 'just' at the time, but someone with a higher rank will charhe enlisted soldier with torture and it becomes a whole new ball game. I wish commanders and the other people who run our military would stop rolling the lower enlisted under the bus. Send me an email and I will talk more about it.

hi Rick : Would some one tell Janet Napalitano that her sentences do not have to start with an "ah". It drives me nuts. Bill Elyria Ohio

Why continue to call it Swine Flu when the CDC said it has nothing to do with pigs and not to call it that, but to call it H1-N1?

Diana   April 29th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

I give Obama grade A. This month i found a new job and we sold our house as well as my pay check is more because less taxes have been taken – looks like not many people noticing that for some reason.

I realize the fact that over 35,000 people die each year in the US from flue viruses is true and does make me feel better about our current situation, but what is the average age of these deaths and did they suffer from other ailments such as aids or other weak immunity diseases.

Michael   April 29th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

3,000 people die each day from Malaria, but that can be treated with iodine. Not much money to be made there

Michael   April 29th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

A report was released recently by scientists that the 1918 flu deaths were actually caused by a super infection streptococcus pneumoniae and not the flu itself

Rosa   April 29th, 2009 6:55 pm ET

Rick, with this swine flue nobody have said if you can be infected by touching an infected person's clothes. I mean does this virus can survive on peoples clothes like for example on an infected person and I come and touch the shirt or the persons pants?

Spector is a traiter to his party. If the US were gravitating toward Socialism (It is) then he would jump ship for that ride.

Pamela   April 30th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

I saw the Miss USA pageant. Miss California didn't win because she wasn't the best woman. The best woman won based on the opinion of the judges. For my 4 daughters and I, none of us felt she was even a top runner from the beginning of the pageant. And, we are from Calif. Granted, If my daughters and I were judges, the pageant really would have turned out completely different. So, it's safe to say, the judges decided ,and if it had been a different combo of judges the winner would have been different.

If what Barak Obama is doing is socialism, then I love socialism.

I am sick of the under reporting and tip toeing around this swine flu outbreak. First it may be subtype h1n1 but it is still swine flu. It jumped from pigs to humans. Second, people are talking about how mild it it is in the us and not seriously spreading. Well, Today will be a week since the news picked up the "SWINE FLU" story. That is just about the incubation period of the virus, meaning that people have been infectious for the last week and infecting people without even knowing. Watch for a huge spike in cases starting tomorrow. I just wish the news would stop trying to brush it off. Tell people what they need to do to prepare for the worst case scenario.

Dave   May 1st, 2009 1:27 pm ET

I like his last movie too. Man if I close my eye I could swear it was Brother Malcolm talking.

Jango   May 1st, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Rick wierd things are happening, South Carolina claims to have victims of the H1-N1 (Swine Flu). They got results very rapidly and ordered a school to shut down. They also report the individuals that have been tested came from Disney trip. uh, oh...

That said the mayor of Orlando has sent results and are pending. Exclaiming disney is prepared they have a solid plan of action for epidemics.

I feel I'm getting hornswaggled by a swine, to catch a deadly flu. Just to see a mouse cough up germs a hundred miles an hour at the innocent kids.

Rick enighhten me...

Help
I just read my MESC appeal and they turned me down again. Seems like they wouldn’t ever rule in favorites an employee to get unemployment. Went to Michigan law and it is so one side its hard to read it make you sick. I gave the pictures , hand written notes , their memo’s to the safety board to support my case.
In Michigan the job market is so bad an employer can do almost anything to you and get away with it. I have a very good case it don’t matter they keep rubber stamp me. Debbie Cherry Democrat, 26th district Senator even office helper Kevin Sylvester KSylvester@senate.michigan.gov worked on the case with no help. He was able to change Marvin’s call menu with Via my problem. The board of appeals for MESC are just talking heads, they are appoint by Jennifer Granholm.
We are losing our rights as well as our money now and in the future.

Why doesn't President Obama want to close the borders to Mexico to prevent anymore Swine Flu cases from coming into the U.S?
Is it really because he wants more illegal immigrants in this country to help him with his vote for his next election?
I regret voting for him because I thought he was going to make a change for American people, but I guess he's just all talk.
Think about it, Obama is supposed to be well-educated, but yet he doesnt have the common sense to close the Mexican Borders to help protect American Citizens from more outbreaks of swine flu. I guess a college degree really doesnt mean anything when it comes to knowledge and common sense.

I took my daughter to a hospital in Chicago because she had a fever of 103 F. She was diagnosed with Influenza medical instructions stating Influenza, H1N1 Swine Child she was prescribed Tamiflu 75 mg capsules. I went to 2 Walgreens to learn that there is no stock in the Chicago area. Fortunately, CVS had it. My insurance did not pay and I had to pay 115.00 for the medication. I called insurance carrier and they said it is not cover because it is not a pandemic yet. Sounds like someones making money off if this. How could there be no meds at Walgreens? How can it be that insurance carriers are not paying for this medication?

I like to say that Rev. Jackson's comments were needed tnis morning, and to add, people that are considered middle-class and under are the ones getting the very short end of the stick. Jobs want hire as long as the word recession is being used. And I am one of the ones suffering big time from it. Ultimately, I'm saying we need people appointed, in place, in every legislation around America making sure the President's agenda is being fulfilled.

That segment on Bill Orielly was extremely low. It's reports like these that lead to Orielly killing CNN in the ratings every night. So congrats CNN, you've just lost another one to FOX News.

Victoria Quinn   July 10th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

I believe the problem stems from this government allowing the drug companies to run everything. Doctors are their tools to distribute all the drugs that are made to all kinds of people. People really need to check out their trust in their doctor and get second opinions. Doctors will give you a pill for everything wrong with you. This government needs to get the drug companies out of the picture and monitor doctors on how many prescriptions are given out and what doctors are charging. Doctors and drug companies are raping the american people.

Discrimination, Racism? I'm a Jewish Latina Woman and had to work 3 times harder than any man to make it to an Executive level. Once I was on a business trip to WI, believe it or not, people asked to meet me to see what I look like (Fortunately, I left my "horns" at the hotel. Are we still in 2009?

I am from N. Carolina and I voted for Obama.. My friends, family and strangers say they can't any white person would vote for a black man
(or worse). Jimmy Carter has hit the nail on the head. It's the elephant in the living room. I am 65 years old and like Carter I remember the hate and ignorance and I believe its still alive.

I'm a proud Mexican-American and I hate when people use the word "racism" lightly. After attending one of the first healthcare rallies in my hometown, I was shocked. All I saw from many of the opponents was NOT anger, but hatred and racism. They can hide behind healthcare, religion, patriotism, immigration reform, Fox Cable News. What's going to matter when we all meet our "Maker", is what was really in our hearts. When all these issues are past us, it's not going to stop the protesters. It's about our President being African-American. It's plain to see- hatred and racism. Last, but not least, Texas isn't going anywhere. Rick Perry can get on his horse, and ride into the sunset if HE doesn't like it.

Ted Cherry   September 17th, 2009 4:57 pm ET

The comments made by former President Jimmy Carter were absolutely spot-on. Why anyone with an ounce of common sense would reject the truth, as Carter put it, is burying their heads in the sand. The tiny, tiny percentage of these so-called tea party clowns are most likely racists.
