Hey Rick,
Thanks for the piece on Dornan. While we all recognize that we as humans (or politicians) can make mistakes, our lawmakers need to be particularily vigilant that their opinion is not formed by special interests. Without citing any specific politician, obviously the vote in the Senate was influenced by the banking lobby. A quick profit they certainly did make, but the unintended consequences that were predicted by Dornan have cost the average American dearly and will for years and tears to come.
Again thanks for the piece,

I heard Kyra Philips snicker at the tax reduction of $15 to $20 per week on her two hour segment.. Doesn't she realize that $15 can feed a family of four for two days? And, there is also the multiplier effect that could spead $45 to $60 per week throughout the economy. Please advise her not to snicker at sums of money which may be meaningless to her but are truly meaningful to lower income people. Why doesn't she have a twitter or facebook page? I would prefer to tell her directly.

has any one told the world leaders they are as much to blame for our economy as any one else. after all , they have allowed world manufacturing to take our jobs from us and move them into their countries with no restrictions on labor ,enviroment, wages and a host of other things. the company i worked for ,for 25 years siemens e&a just closed one of our factorys and the second one will be closed in july leaving some where betwene 700 and a 1000 people without jobs in two counties in ohio. and our jobs have a greadt deal to do with the economy. we failed on lots of things BECAUSE we lost our jobs!!!!!

People really need to wake up. Stop being greedy, corrupt and dishonest! Throw all the corrupt government officials in JAIL along with the corrupt wall street executives. Either Jail or execution for treason against the people of the US.

Irene   March 31st, 2009 3:32 pm ET

You had to be brain dead or bought off by wall street and lobbyists (and that includes Greenspan) not to know or not to see what it would mean if banks and a Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sacks, etc. and/or insurance companies got together.

MJACKSON   March 31st, 2009 3:50 pm ET

I feel that anything that has to do with our country or our security as well never be discussed with anyone not classified for that information. In my eyes that there says all in itself why 9-11
could have been prevented as well.I would never discuss any
issues with others if i was V.P. info like this is very important to
not let out there for just anyone to take & use it to their advantage
especially terriosts.I think discussing issues about the president as well should have never surfaced he crossed the line & put our president& country at risk for more problems .

I hear more about Dick cheney now when he was the vice-president. He is out there on a mission to destroy the Obama administration. Why he never commented about attack when Bush was in power he's putting idea for those people to make a move but God will save us. He needs to get the hell out the media. He was the worst vice president. he was just like a body than a person. get a hike Dick Cheney

ggs   March 31st, 2009 3:52 pm ET

You know Rick, I get really tired of people saying how I feel and what I want as an American. I totally disagree with the lawyer you just had on. I am all for immigrants–we are all one but I am also for abiding by our laws. Maybe if we round up the 12-20 million illegals they will stop coming. Please note that the number just keeps increasing–go for workers and employees. American citiizens need jobs; other countries need to creat jobs for their people.
Either we are or we are not a country of laws–sad to have to tell that to a lawyer

mwess   March 31st, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Rick,

Making it TO the big leagues is not the same as making it IN the big leagues.

Larry   March 31st, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Greed, lobbyists, and politicians that put campaign money ahead of the people they represent are the main problems. I also feel 401K's have a bit to do with our problems. Weekly, millions of dollars are targeted to purchase stocks from payroll deductions. This demand causes those stocks to rise beyond what they are worth. To appease investors, the corporate executives must continue to increase profits in order to justify that stock price by shady, if not illegal means.

Another comment about Obama on the campaign trail. He promised to take away tax incentives from companies that ship jobs overseas. IBM announced 5000 in their most current layoff and in the article it stated that this was a continuation of their search for cheaper labor in other countries such as India. Is the President going to keep that promise?

Lillian Barden   March 31st, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Rick-what do you or most people know about an ITIN number? It is for people who work in the US and don't have a social security number and helps them get one. Then even tho they get may get future benefits, they are responsible for taxes too.

E. Simelton   March 31st, 2009 4:12 pm ET

I disagree with Ms. Baer, regarding illegal aliens being almost citizens because they have been here so long. If someone breaks in your house and stays a long time do we reward them by allowing them to stay. Her comments regarding our illegal aliens problems makes know sense. We have to be a country of laws and we have to be able to control our borders

& i feel it should have been taken seriously a long time ago not just now .I feel that before they were to busy looking & less important issues @ hand elswhere .I think what the president is doing is going to take a while to get us moving forward because it took us a long time to get this way as well . Lets see what happens give the new president a chance to turn things around & see if his idea may help
better than others have !

ECONOMY CRISIS:Is it really a crisis if it was designed to happen,I believe some 20 or more years ago, decisions made by our own government, run by the big banks, big corporations and the interest and the wants of the mega rich, helped alot of americans purchase the homes of thier dreams, with 20 or30 year notes ,knowing that they would soon drive all the jobs and industry from the country.Flood the economy with 20 plus million people whom all these banks and bussinesses are vying for thier dollars now, they all get rich and profit immenssly, while the rest of us, quality of life has tanked! Everything looked attainable when our jobs were secure, and our companies were staying right here at home.and now years later , the citizens are being overlooked for job placement because the illegals will work cheaper and thier money is just as good as ours, are taking what jobs are left .And now, It seems like your credit rating ,by every move or transaction you make, is affected in a negative way! Only so that all of us pay even more money for every purchase we make! With all of our losses, businesses, homes, cars, and our futures ,it creates huge avenues for the wealthy that can come in buy everything thats left at a song and dance. This credit rating thing to me is just another form of discrimination be it not black or white it pits the rich against the poor, now with a low score, you probably wont be able to pay for your purchases anyway! And the new world order, the order will be that of North America #1, after we consolidate with Mexico and Canada, because this will truly give us super power status and size. Then the wealthiest of the worlds companies will take over the #1 spot, be it ,Wal-mart or maybe the oil companies spot in the new world order, rich vs. the poor I know where my spot will be, near the bottom I suspect, comparative to that of a bloodsucker or a leach!

The Bush Cheney Regime, like all good theives were adept at the art of disrtaction- from Weapons of mass distruction in Iraq to the land grab after katrina to the deregulation of banks during the war, it was all great strategy for stealing so much of our future prosperity.

Juan LaPointe   April 1st, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Rick Sanchez – whotta drama queen. What "intensity". What fawning. Simplistic questions. What narcissism. And is there NO ONE that Sanchez won't interrupt to break for an inane opinion or a "breaking story" that is essentially nothing? Cripes. Every year it gets worse and worse. I though Richard Quest was a Monty Python spoof, such as on his "dreamy" Airbus 380 (free) deluxe flight, and Tony Harris was the apogee of narcissistic journalist or pop-info, but no. Here come Rick. None of the above are Anderson Coopers.

Stefan Siclovan   April 1st, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Braking the windows of a bank or a Government office will not improve the economy. The protesters do not deserve any sympathy and no matter how harsh the Police treats them, they don't deserve better. This is vandalism of the lowest class.

Wellingon Okoh   April 1st, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Violence only takes away from the real reason for protesting in the first place. Some 61years ago, Ghandi told us that non-violence is the best way to go, it is still the best way today.

Scott   April 1st, 2009 3:32 pm ET

There are millions of people about to exhaust the benefits they were receiving under the second federal unemployment extension. President Obama’s stimulus package extends benefits to Dec. 2009 only to those who are filing new claims.
Anyone on unemployment did not choose to lose their jobs. To every unemployment claim there is a mortgage or rent attached, a family who needs to pay for basic necessities such as utilities and food. Until such time jobs become begin to materialize everyone should be included in the unemployment extension as outlined in President Obama’s stimulus package. Will you represent those who are not asking for a hand out but a hand up until jobs become available. Let your voice be heard and press President Obama and congress to do the right thing and include everyone.

Bia Winter   April 1st, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Way to go, Rick!
For "advice" on police action at the G-20 you interview one of this country's worst police THUGS, Timoney of Miami!

Why not go all the way and interview Chertoff, or another of his goons from the Bush/Cheney administration! Oh wait, that's right, Timoney IS one of Chertoff's goons!

Sue Brown   April 1st, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Rick-Stop showing the violence. It only glamorizes it.

greg alexander   April 1st, 2009 3:42 pm ET

The Miami Police chief rightly pointed out that the safety of the world leaders is the most important function for the police. How about renting a cruise ship next time and have the leaders meet on it.

Joy   April 1st, 2009 3:44 pm ET

There is nothing unusual about this G Summit protesting and violence. Every G summit meeting that has ever taken place has been plagued by this same violence from an organization of anarchists who take advantage of peaceful protest gatherings, even in prosperous times. Remember the G-7 violence in Seattle? They oppose all organized governments.

jane todd   April 1st, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Hi Rick: I am an average person...currently our home is in foreclosure my husband is barely working (he drives oil trucks and oilpatch has come to an almost screeching halt)...this mess has now become personal for us in our house...not just news stories...I do not condone violence, however, all the average person wants is to be heard. It is obvious that nobody has been listening...I am 50 years old and have learned more about how our economic system works over the last few months than I have in my entire life! It benefits the elite few, it is the middle man who takes most, if not all, of the risk. The only concern is the bottom line. Kinda reminds me of the last days of the Roman Empire when all the middle class was good for was to breed children for the war machine. There is no freedom in being poor.

Mrs. Mayes   April 1st, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Mr. Shanchez you and all Americans need to start calling our president , President Obama, Mr. Obama or President. You and to many refer to him as Obama or Barack. He Won Remember! Give him the same respect you gave presidents in the past. It seems since we got a Black President you want to drop the title president before his name. And I know about being repitious. It is no more repitious for you to constantly say Obama then President Obama. He earned his title and his wife Mrs. Obama. You should always respect people in auhority and respect our elders we were taught in school and at home. You didn't call Mrs. Bush Laura you called her Mrs. Bush so call our First Lady Mrs. Obama. All this can be done depending on the conversation about them. Make sure you teach your
children to call him Mr. Obama and his wife Mrs. Obama. The President can call her Michelle but we should call her Mrs. Obama or First Lady Michelle. Let us Respect them like you did the ones in the past. It looks racist, ignorant or like we just refuse to accept him.

Steve Josephs   April 1st, 2009 3:46 pm ET

The focus of the media will be strictly on the violence. Non-
violent protests will give the authorities nothing to fear. In truth,
it should be feared more because the number of protesters will
increase by 1000 times.

Hey rick,
The thing that's bugging me about the newscasts, and I'm sure it's causing the the protesters' to go violent, is that the media is not getting thier point across. What they want people to hear from them is that they are "anti-world bank."

I am Canadian and find that many of us really admire Obama. It is amazing the horrible groundswell against his attempts to turn back the sad situation of America in the world and within itself. It looks as if the American people hate their own country when they will not to give him a fair chance.

Jake Womack   April 1st, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Americans need to look to the streets of London. We need to carry out this protest here, but in peaceful fashion. A plan for frighteningly big government is on the table at the G-20. Our voices have never been more important.

Hi Rick, seems like the whole world is blaming the U.S. on the current economic problems! Bet they weren't crying when American companies pulled up stakes and moved to their countries?
To all the tratior companies that went over seas. Who's going to buy your junk now? Look at the unenployment and hurt you caused here in the United States! Shame on you, it serves you right.

& the summit guys will get a lot more done
don't you think

jane todd   April 1st, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Organized governments are run by big business and therein lies a huge part of the problem.

rose   April 1st, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Hey Rick, it is so disingenious of you to talk as if President Obama is the cause of th economic crises. I know that you have a job to do but it is such a big lie on how you are trying to portray President Obama. The people of the world know that it was the Bush Administration that caused this problem and you guys know this. The world knows where this economic crises began. And as you make these false remarks President Obama's continues to rise.

Matt McMahon   April 1st, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Hey Rick,
I wonder if anyone has contacted the hospital and found out the official time of on the nfl players mother in law. I would be interested and amazed if she actually died in the 10 minutes the officer had the son in law in the parking lot. It's hard to believe that she actually died in this 10 minute span. The media always tries to make a story sound more amazing than it actually was. What's the truth?

Ted Bloom   April 1st, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Hi, well, I can tell you Rick...
I am beside myself!! I had $3.2 million in Royal Bank I even picked up more shares two days ago!! I had faith in a slow recovery! I lost so much that was all I could hope for. Now they are destroying the Bank!
Honestly I am mad... I am too far from Scotland to break my bank apart ~ But I sure did beat up my financial advisor!!There was a split, some incentive I got 3 for 1 the stock went down from $13.00 to $7.00 then down to .38 I lost everything! I AM MAD!!!
I can't blame them but they are wrong... How will it change though without a protest!

Steve Josephs   April 1st, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Do these people breaking windows at the g20 summit realize that the very windows they are breaking are insured. So the banks get to file a claim and collect most likely more money. The banks should thank them for their help. These kids breaking the windows are young and probably not the ones who have been really hurt by this economic crisis. What a classless way to protest. And even worse than that are the camera men, yes the media who stand by and tape this without saying, Hey stop, or get the police over here." Yes the camera men are said to be impartial, but to stand by and film someone vandilize property and not say anything they are as bad as they are.

jill   April 1st, 2009 4:22 pm ET

Hey Rick – I know this isn't a comment about the economy. To be honest I am speechless about that blunder.
What I do want to share with you is a story lead that is a follow up to your March 31st report on Dick Cheney.

I have a family member that works at George Washington Hospital. She says a top cardiologist publishes a monthly newsletter to distribute to select staff. His February newletter disclosed his treatment of Dick Cheney and the truth about his health issues. In his letter he mentions Dick having a major heart attack (far beyond what was reported) that made him incapable of a leadership position, such as VP. It explains the extended periods of time when Dick's whereabouts were unknown. If this information had been made public, Dick would have had to resign his position. The doctor mentions that he no longer feels sworen to secrecy since the administration change. The letter goes into the $ given to GW by the Cheney family (which he refers to as "hush $").
I think the American people deserve to know the truth about all the dishonesties of the Bush/Cheney administration. I and others would love to hear more about this topic.

Robert Saxton   April 1st, 2009 4:27 pm ET

Hello Rick,
I was just wondering, why lawenforcement agencies don't plan for violent out breaks during protests. To me it would be easier to make public announcements prior to the events, that peaceful protesters should carry with them white cloths that they can hold up in the air to indicate that they are peaceful protester that is in the process of trying to vacate the area. This will give officers the option of being able to determine more quickly distinguish the difference between the two groups. It would also keep innocent people from being injured.

Steve Paulson   April 1st, 2009 5:42 pm ET

All run to nowhere, all run not knowing.
Some will walk blindly, some die on wayside.
But some will survive by strength
alone within their hearts of trust;
the dust of ages past
will last as long as needed.
The faith that fathers had
will take us all to home.

What bone will stand against him,
what eye will see him through?
What ear can stand to hear his lies,
what tongue will speak the truth?
Now we stand at devil's door;
then we'll see the floors of hell,
opened wide with gates below.
Then we'll see the beast come forth,
then we'll know too late
that hate and loathing
bring more the same,
disdain will reign the globe.

You and I will wait for hope,
we stand beside the sea.
We look to heav’ns gate again
for hope our fathers gained.
Our land will rise again,
our faith will once more stand.
Hearts will reach to others,
hands will help the land.
Farms will grow the gold we need,
the weeds -no longer choke.
Smoke will vanish from our hearts
as friends b’come brothers ‘gain.
Our fathers smile upon us,
Looking for something strong.
Long the time has been for us,
long we stand -the strong.
Storms will rise the raging tide,
seas will toss their foam;
You and I will walk the shore
and find once more our home.

I have been waiting a long time to blog this. Why oh why are you still on CNN? I find you to be overly self-indulgent, very subjective, rudely opinionated AND annoying in general. I was so happy when you were removed from the prime spot. But tell me, why are you still on???? Very distasteful journalism.

As we have all known no matter how "entrenched" we are in our own denial and how we paint it, justify it or label it, we just will not admit to our own crimes of greed and of wearing blinders and looking the other way.
I can not recall since and during all the recent "Blame-Games" has anyone just looked in the mirror.
Everyone that has been called or accused of being a moralist or a martyr doesn't need to point out the obvious anymore.
Not when we are all up to our eyeballs in our own vile.

Go ahead America the Beautiful, live way beyond your means, create your own drug, political/economic and religious wars. If you look around real close, you need not look very far. We as a species should all be locked up for looting our own childrens futures and their basic rights to live in any kind of dignity. "Shame" is only a lack for a better word. Shame on all of us.
Americans, to this very day and even with what's happening around us, still believe we can take it with us ! Even when our noses are shoved in it. No remorse, no embarrassment and no shame . . .none!

See ya all in the funny papers.
A. Maes
Oh and P.S. Thank you Lara Giovani for your comment.
Yes, . . .Hey Rick, you and that moron Lou Dobbs should take some lessons from Anderson Cooper.

Jack Taylor   April 2nd, 2009 9:10 am ET

Hi Rick,
I'm a London Brit now an adopted Canadian who winters in Florida. I think CNN and the cable networks gave far to much video and coverage of the yobo's who with faces covered did all the damage to the Royal Bank of Scotland. They were not there to protest the state of the financial world but to get in a pub down too many beers and cause havoc and damage in the name of fun. These are the type of people that if you were enjoying an evening walk in the park with your family you would be concerned if you got near a group of them. I don't think for one minute these were representative of the marjority of people who protested in a peaceful manner.

On another note it concerns me that it seems that Americans live within there own shores. You can't talk down here in Florida about the G20 or the G7. Too many people don't know what your talking about. They know very little about Canada they don't even know we have troops in Afghanistan or we are the largest trading partners in the world. President Obama got it right when he stated education in America lags behind too many countries.

Finally I believe that in President Obama you have a leader who will restore the American image that has declined so much around the world. The next 4 years should be a joy to watch.
Regards
Jack Taylor

I hope those eight senators and President Obama will work together. It is NOT a matter of (R) vs. (D) it is our country! Folks on main street need to also realize ALL our problems are not the fault of Wall Street and/or Washington D.C. Our family looked around and we have not always spent our money wise. Our spending is our fault.

patrice   April 2nd, 2009 1:29 pm ET

Finally the truth is slowly coming out. Ten years ago Phil Graham (senator) sponsored the deregulation bill of risky financial institutions.
Then the big republican machine funneled tons of money to get Bush elected who then continued the underhanded activities of further deregulation. Then Bush developed the TARP fund and gave the money to the very institutions the have fraud their own clients. This is the face of a major conspiracy over a ten year period that has caused the meltdown. We think Madoff was bad!!!! When is the FBI and other law enforcement sectors of the American Government going to do something. This didn't just happen it was engineered. The money didn't just disappear.
All of the Bush cronies got rich off the middle classes back. When will the behavior be put in check, it has been going on since who knows when and the American public as well as the world is now fed up with it. Seize the assets. Get the money back. Prosecute the offenders.

Tony   April 2nd, 2009 3:15 pm ET

About some Republicans who want President Obama to fail. Gov. Romney is a smart man and a christian. He does not want the President to fail becaus of the backlash that will prevail against the Republicans.

I will go further, I will bet you that Rush Limbaugh will not last another year on radio. He and his right wing supporters and some very racist do not want to see a black man suceed as president because they are programmed to think otherwise. ie Cunnigham, Coulter, Savage, Levin and many more. These people should be charged aith treason.

If he was a white man and as President of the US they would all want him to succeed.

CubanMom   April 2nd, 2009 3:24 pm ET

First of all, I would really appreciate the Media, starting with CNN, calling Barack Obama, President Obama.

I read that Bush was warned of a coming economic crisis back in 2007, but just like he did not see "9/11" coming......... he did not acknowledge the warning about the economy!

Secondly, our Nation will recover just like we did back in 81 & 82 when during the Reagan administration we had "Twin Recessions."

President Obama will be successful in changing the course of our Nation, towards a more prosperous, more just, more fair Nation!

Its time that ALL Americans, not just the wealthiest among us, prospered!

Rush is apparently unaware of the fact that when you degrade someone that is so beloved you become the enemy of the people who love him.

Oh jeez here we go, can't wait til Rick gets a job on MSNBC. So its deregulation that had the GSE's (Fannie and Freddie) giving out sub prime mortgages like candy? NO! Who was it that warned 14 times on 2008 that we needed to reign in the GSE's? BUSH! Yeah the same guy who in 2003 proposed a new group to oversee the GSE's. One prupose of that group "The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios". Gee great thinking, too bad democrats didnt think so.
What happened in 2004 when regulators tried to clamp down on Freddie Mac after Franklin Raines was caught cooking the books? Democrats called them racists! In 2003 and 2005 republicans introduced legislation to again regulate the GSE's (McCain signing on both times), democrats blocked it. One of those democrats, Chris Dodd who at the time was a "friend of Angelo" and receiving VIP rates on his countrywide mortgage. Dodd has yet to releases papers of the transactions he promised nearly a year ago.
The GSE's then sold off mortgage backed securities to anyone who would by them. Those securities backed by the subprime loans. Loans which banks had to give at a certain rate or suffer the governments wrath. Thats not a fault of deregulation but government interference! Had the Congress reigned in the democrats favorite hildren Fannie and Freddie there would be no crisis.
