rick mr. duncan has a hard job ahead no matter how much he wants to change things when it comes to education he is gonna learn that when you compromise everyone looses.

I watched Bobby Jindal's Republican reply to President Obama's speech last night. When Jindal started to speak, I closed my eyes and thought I was hearing Mr. Rogers talking to the "boys and girls in his neighborhood." Oh my...is this the best they can do?

David Maurer   February 25th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Rick;
Govt should not give more money directly to the banks. Give me 3 months of mortgage payments I can give to my bank. Two birds with one stone. This would stimulate me!

RJ   February 25th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

Rick, not sure what Duncans going to do but have you gone out and actually talked to the generation thats currently in K-12, while these kids are intelligent in their own ways, as far as the real world and the way it works, they are so out of touch, almost like on a different planet. I cant speak for other countries but the education these kids are recieving today in our country is worthless, and with most graduating high school(those that chose to stay) with absolutely no ability to cope with the real world. Their parents have chosen the easy path to parenting and simply gave them whatever so they dont have to deal with them. These kids dont even have the basic sense of respect , manners and how to treat their elders. Its a mess and it starts at home! I hope for our sake these kids get straighten around because they are the ones that will be taken care of us down the road, scary thought.

Thanks for your show. I love the format and look forward to it every day. Being a latina raised in the U.S., I love when you slip from English to Spanish, when you are thinking out-loud; este....

Gracias! Keep up the great work!

After last nights comments by the Republicans I am now convinced that Repulicans are "SOCIAL DARWINIST'S

Melissa Howard   February 25th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

The president wants our ideas on how to help the country during this recession. I live in Mount Clemens, Michigan and I can tell you they need to start by checking into fraud in the welfare, foodstamps and unemployment departments. I know many, many people who are capable of working and are just lazy people who know the government will take care of them. I have twins who will be starting college in the fall and I think maybe I will divorce my husband so I can get their education paid for by the government. Only I won't do it because I wouldn't be the right thing to do. I like to be able to look in the mirror and like who I see. Maybe more people should do that.

Glenn Nelson   February 25th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Rick,

During the campaign President Obama was said to be all style and no substance. Last night he PROVED that he has plenty of substance. He is one of the smartest, and shrewdish politicians that I have ever seen. He is better then Kennedy, better then Regan and possibly as good as the best in my life time LBJ. Johnson the master of arm twisting even with his plurality. Obama the master of keeping his party in line to get done what he wants to get done. From the Lilly Leadbetter Law, to medical coverage for children to the stimulus.

His best line for the movie buffs in the house is "I get it." taken from the Michael Douglas movie, The American President.

Cheryl   February 25th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Rick,

Can you ask someone an expert in the financial field this question: Who are the investors on Wall Street? I know some individual investors are involved, but I think many "so called" investors are large institutional investors and not individual millionaire, or everyday common folk investors. What do you think?

W.A. MacPhee, Ph.D.   February 25th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Rick – Does one dollar spending equal one dollar stimulus? NO !! And, contrary to what Senator Chuck Schumer thinks – Americans DO care about pork spending. Now, more than ever.

James   February 25th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Rick, I thought the presidents speech was fantastic, I support him 100% and hope he can bring this country back to what it once was.

what is with the GOP? where are they coming up with these people? first palin, now jindal, watching him speak last night I felt like I was watching Mr. Rogers neighborhood with the way he was talking, and he's a rising star? I think not.

Charlie   February 25th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Republicans should have used Pee Wee Herman for a response rather than Opie Taylor. Was that speech out sourced?

Steve   February 25th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

It just amazes me that people are still plugging against the GOP with further cheap shots after the election which I call gloating. The liberals are making fun of everything that has to do with the conservative side of our country. I think they will find out that if we keep heading down the path we are headed that we will turn into a Socialist state, but that is probably what the Dems want anyway. I am looking for a positive projection but so far all I am hearing is elementary school rhetoric from the liberal side.

Jose carlos Pomalaza   February 25th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Hi Rick
I like your program. I just heard your asking about comparing Bush performance iwth Obama's. My question is:
How can you compare the performance of an unpopular president that served two terms with a president that do not have performance at all, there is nothing yet on how to

Daniel   February 25th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Why is this just accepted? When i applied for my home loan the bank came back and said we were approved for $190K. We could of done it and been in debt up to our ears. Instead, we only took $40K bought an older house needing hand work. We fell on bad times for a bit but more than survived. Now we are upgrading\renovating our home (a mess everywhere) :) with CASH doing the work personally to save on costs while driving my home payment to $300\month and not having 1cent of debt on a credit card. WE"VE WORKED HARD to do all this. Now other people took the full approved bank loans and are in BEAUTIFUL homes and dont even know what a hammer is but cry, cry for help. TAKE OWNERSHIP, its not the banks fault 100%. Responsibility.........

narendra swamy   February 25th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

What's up with the GOp and all the anti-science stances they take on from abortion to "volcano watching". We need to stop watching hurriances then!

Andrea   February 25th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Jindal should stop trying to rip up Pres. Obama, in his quest to promote himself as a canidate in the future. He's looking like a fool.
He should be concerned for the people of LA, who need all the help they can get.

Albert Illinois   February 25th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Republican will continue to fall unless credited only on their behalf... why can't they share the burden and success... Gov Bobby Jindhal will be among them once he declined the most needed help from his State. Election comes is our democratic duty to weed and seat those who will help make the difference for the American people no matter who the present President affiliation.

Rick, I watch the two ladies that were facing foreclosure. And I can't believe the one from Jersey who owned two houses and had ridicolus credit debit. She to me is in need of a good finacial advisor not help with her mortgage. I blame the mortgage brokers who over qualify these people, just to make their money. Also these people should know what they can and cannot afford when it comes to mortgages.

Hi Rick:
It is still too early to judge Obama, he practically does not have achievements, except that he is promising to solve all our problems with borrowed money.

David Braaten   February 25th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Rick –
If a person lives anywhere along the Cascades on the West Coast or in Hawaii (part of the USA last time I checked), "something called volcano monitoring" is rarely heard. We know what volcano monitoring means to us.
Perhaps our Republican last night is a victim of regionalism?

Please tell and reassure us that the gov't isn't going to give another dime to A.I.G., Citigroup, or NorthTrust Banks. These companies are wreckless, and don't deserve another cent.

ugo   February 25th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Republicans insist on tax reduction....with all unemployed and under employed of today ....that can pay very few taxes, whith another tax reduction on those that can pay ...we will be left whith little or zero revenue from taxes.
It is so difficult to understand?

LDW (Louisiana)   February 25th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Being a citizen of Louisiana, I would ask President Obama to give our (Louisiana) share of the stimulus away to other states that would appreciate it. Our Governor wants to grand stand for his own political reasons, so BREAK OUR BACKS. Give it to other states that will appreciate the money to rebuild their economy since ours is so PERFECT!!

Arlene   February 25th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

The Republicans are finally waking up from their 8 year sttupor. Why didn't they whine over the huge deficits and spending bills they created for the past 8 years. They are such hypocrites. I think the stimulus package shouldn't go to the states where both the senators and congressmen didn't vote for it. Then let's see what happens.

thanks Rick

David Braaten   February 25th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

The North had a great need for the gold of the California mines in propogation of the civil war. Unfortunately, one might say for the Native Americans along the right of ways as well as those who failed to benefit from having these vast right of ways being in the hands of very few well connected invividuals.
The commentary this morning on Pres. Obama's attempt to encourage us with reference to large projects undertaken in times of difficulty didn't seem to be congizant of the history of the American West. Perhaps we missed an opportunity to get useful info from some historian about how these projects have winners and losers and paying attention to that dynamic might help to not repreat mistakes of the past. If we forget these historical dymnamics we face hazard of seeing all discussions of consequences as cynical manipulations to avoid needed change.

Louis Duquette   February 25th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

As the United Sataes Attorney General labled Americnas as cowards when i comes to race I find it paritcuallary interesting that the Nation of Islam goes unnoticed. These people are extremists and racists who backed Barack Obama but are left alone for some unknown reason.

Clarence   February 25th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

No, no, Rick, leave the show at an hour: I cannot take your excitability for more than an hour.

Now for Jindal. I am a faculty member at a public university in Louisiana. I came very close to being laid off in January because Jindal ordered all state departments to cut their budgets. Now Obama wants to give the states via the stimulus package money to meet their obligations, and Jindal says Louisiana won't accept the money.

Now you tell me: does it appear that Jindal cares about middle class workers in Louisiana, or does it appear he's playing politics and setting himself up for a run at the White House in '12?

H. WILLIS   February 25th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

I did not hear allof Gov. Jindal's response to President Obama's address but that part which I did hear was awful. I am currently reading some data put out by the United Health Foundation re: Louisiana's health ranking. They are 50 overall for 2008. In 2007, they were 49. High school graduation rate 2007 69.4%. For 2008 it was 63.9%. It appears to me that Gov. Jindal is in denial about the progress in LA.

Lance Kuhns   February 25th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Would somone tell me how Bush's tax breaks for the rich and corporations have helped our economy?

Reginald Jackson   February 25th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Jindal's speach fell flat because these guys (Republicans) still don't get it. they keep using partisan politics and divisive attacks when the American people are scared for their jobs and future. We need solutions to the problem, not finger pointing and negativity. Jindal is a joke!!!!

wlt1993   February 25th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Dear Rick

yesterday republic party use the Gov. Bobby Jindal for reply for President speach as a republic Party they use their words in his mouth and ruin his reputation I think no other one in the party want to come in front of camera after Historic Speach by President Obama
I think Repbulic party will sleep next 10 years and just dream to come in majority in House and Senate
If they really want to do something good for country They have to keep their mouth shut and help President to get out from this mess economy rather then just say no to his program They had 8 years and now President Obama Turn and let him do his job.

Reginald Jackson   February 25th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

These guys are crazy. Making a woman look at a ultra-sound to bully her into keeping a child she doesn't want is nuts. what are they gonna do with all these un-wanted child..give them to Angelina Jolie!!!!

sharon   February 25th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

After 8 years of watching the government ignore it's citizens and their needs while pushing their war-mongering agenda, President Obama is putting us first again. I think it's unbelievably arrogant on the GOP's part to act as if they had no part in the current state of our country when they were in charge of the decisions made (or not made), and I'm tired of seeing them talk negatively about his efforts. You can almost see John McCain snickering whenever he's interviewed about the President's recovery proposals. Had McCain won the election, the GOP would have become a combative pity party if he was saddled with the crisis that we face, crying "poor us, we have so much to overcome, we need time, don't judge too quickly!" It seems to me that President Obama has continued to seek bi-partisan cooperation, and the Republicans in Congress are doing all they can to make that impossible; by sitting in the corner and sulking with arms crossed, like kids on the playground who don't get their way. They're more concerned with making the President look bad than doing what's right by the citizens that put them in office. They keep crying about how big a role the government is taking and that we should let business lead the way instead. They must think we're stupid, when time after time we hear how banks (and I'm sure there are others) throw parties and spend enormous amounts of money after begging for assistance, it's clear business can't be trusted to lead us to anything but bankruptcy

Rick Hubbard   February 25th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Last I checked, an ULTRASOUND was a MEDICAL procedure with some documented risks and should NOT be considered "routine". So now the state can dictate what MEDICAL procedures a woman must undergo?

betty russell   February 25th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

so many of us Americans are being asked to conserve or take pay cuts or bonus cuts.or maybe even for a lot of us to do without our dialy coffee ect. .well congress monkey see monkey do. how bout you stop giving those fancy dinner parties take your guests to mcdonalds dollar menu..and turn down your next pay raise or bonus or give one back .

David Gilliam   February 25th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Rick, Texas is in a hurry to put into law an ultrasound, but the state makes getting SCHIP or MediCaid for children a major effort. If they are going to do something to encourage women to have their children, they should make it automatic that the child will have health care until they are 18.

jjones   February 25th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Rick: A life is a gift from God, nevertheless, we know that this wouldnj't even be a discussion if men gave birth!

Hi I think education is key to any recovery. for too long we have accepted the notion we cannot get tough on the youth. We have many who are totally unaware of responsibility and the work ethic went due south. Do not advance students if they cannot pass the exam for the grade they are in. I live in Canada and it is the same up here. No calculators, cell phones make them use there minds in math. Train everyone without spell check on computers, we always had spelling tests in my time at school and allow discipline once again in schools. 2 plus 2 is 4 and spell it as it is in the dictionary not as it sounds, mark exams if incorrect as just that then we will have educated people truly

lorraine reisman   February 25th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

who is paying for these sonograms?????

Denise   February 25th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Pres Obama needs to speak and speak again. Rather than allowing newscasters to figure out what he's saying, let him speak and listen. He communnicates very well. Focus on TRANSPARENCY yes but add FRANK AND HONEST to government interaction and watch the politicans squirm.

Janie   February 25th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Prez O can't understand why oh why the GOP won't vote his way. How many time did HE vote with 43? Surprise!! Now you're a victim BO. You play it so well.

D'nette   February 25th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

I was raised and still live in the State of Washington, my town was a pure white town with laws that people of color were over the bridge before the sun set. My mother hid people in our barn if they couldn't get back to the other side of the river before then. I was 30 years old before I knew how she risk the lives of our family for a unjust law. Peoples homes were burnt, killed, set afire, beaten, I was 50 before I found out the whole story, I never knew how much danger we were in. My mother's brother was married to the daughter of the States KKK leader. Hate never dies, it just grows deeper. we are talking about the 1940 thur the civil rights law. Only that hate is still here. I was raised to judge a person by their heart not the color of the skin/hair/eye's.

betty russell   February 25th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

i agree with david gilliam . a good insurance policy would help some mothers decide to keep their babies but if they need the insurance they will need more public assistance can we afford to clothe feed and insure all those babies till age 18. if so go for it

liz bullock kcmo   February 25th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Come on rick we're talking about cutting back on medical costs in this country are we suggesting the women making this very hard and PERSONAL decision pay for this or taxpayers...... i am sure if a women wants pics and literature on abortion there is plenty of that material already available to her!

David   February 25th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Did any one catch a peak of the Glen Beck show that making a case for forming Militias. I couldn't stomach much of it

betty russell   February 25th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

love the idea of tax cuts for the working people. what do the elderly poor get out of this deal? i have a friend 86 yrs old every time social security gives her a ten dollar raise medicaid takes that much off her food stamps ..her total monthly income is less than 600 dollars . i know this is true i help her make out her bill payments.. what can people like her expect from this new president?

David   February 25th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

I am very concerned about the rhetoric that is flying around. Anyone that can account the history of this country forty or more years ago knows that horrendous actions were carried out due to hate rhetoric that was being used. I know that Amy Holmes is to young to remember that but any responsible person that had to live through that can not responsibly misinterpret the meaning of a cartoon. Rick what is your excuse.

amy   February 25th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

Glen is a very informative person. He's got as many researchers filtering only the facts for his material in his show, as does Rush. They know their stuff. And if you had listen to Glen a year ago, he was dead right on this economy collapse. Lending out money to people who can't pay it back means "I" will have to bail them out. If you listen to Glen you may learn something!!!!!!!

amy   February 25th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Who's going to bail out those people who are using their 401-k to make the house payments? I didn't hear BO talk about bailing them out. Looks like he's using a divisive form of social class warfare. People, he seems to be selective as to who he will help(those who lack accountability) and who he will bankrupt(the hard working, responsible ones).

P.J.   February 25th, 2009 4:28 pm ET

Where in all of the recovery discussions are the senior citizens and/or
social security recipients? Do they NOT count?

amy   February 25th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

What is "your comment is awaiting moderation"? Are comments being filtered to meet the LIBERAL propaganda? You know you guys are the only ones that do that. You go to conservative blogs and they let EVERYONE express themselves. Liberals are usually pretty hateful, but hey, they like it that way, all heated debates are ALWAYS welcomed.

Perry Sawchuck   February 25th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

I dont' believe that people are evil. I believe that when people are forced into a corner, that they will do things that are out of character and from there, we allow a new order, to take priority and than it will seep onto other people.

It does not have to be this way, we all have choices of humanity, when we care enough to listen to others, other than our own self-agendas.

It's as simple as world leaders meeting together and drinking too much and than it creates an environment of insecurities. We don't have to see, to feel, we just have to recognize who we are.

The other dude, he needs some serious coaching skills about leadership, he has to lose the southern accent, and get to know himself for the next 5 years. I believe his american name is Bobby, but what is his real name, or do people not care enough, as a result of their anger, frustration and ego's that are not filling their pockets....

Have a good day Rick. I am listening to Pink Floyd, always remember, that whatever we were, is where we are and that today and tomorrow can take us to new days, when we care to , individually....that's the key..

It's our Leadership of ourselves that will determine our outcomes....

Barack- I love that guy, he's got some serious values and it reminds me of me....

This is meant for Rick Sanchez, is that how he spells his name. First of all, put on a frickin tie, and stop yelling into your mic, we can hear you just fine, when you same something worth hearing. Why do you make your politics so evident. So sad, I suppose you have alot of resentment within yourself, and you take it out on those you don't like. And you should go back to school to learn another occupation. Your days are numbered my friend. The new TV has no room for you. I give CNN a year with you, and you will be doing infomercials at 3 am. Just be fair dude.

MattJ   February 26th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Melissa Howard claims:

I can tell you they need to start by checking into fraud in the welfare, foodstamps and unemployment departments. I know many, many people who are capable of working and are just lazy people who know the government will take care of them.

To which I reply: we keep hearing about such cases, but whenever some serious organization actually undertakes to measure how many there are, the number is quite small. So no, you are distracting us from the real problem, distracting us with a statistically irrelevant blip.

MattJ   February 26th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

W.A. MacPhee, Ph.D asks:

Why don’t American’s understand that a higher educated society tends to earn more and pay more taxes to reduce the national debt and expand infastructure?

To which I reply. American's don't understand it because we never GET that higher education! Most Americans still think educated people are egg-heads, they refuse to take the fruit of that education seriously, they refuse to admit the damage they do by their own deep ignorance.

That is, after all, how Bush got elected in the first place: taking advantage of the average voter's deep ignorance about what the country really needs and how to accomplish it.

MattJ   February 26th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Steve says:

It just amazes me that people are still plugging against the GOP with further cheap shots after the election which I call gloating. so far all I am hearing is elementary school rhetoric from the liberal side

To which I reply: then you are not listening. There is much more than just "elementary school rhetoric" from the liberal side, and you missed it.

Even more disappointing, there is much more and much lower "elementary school rhetoric" coming from the Republican side. That is WHY this blog, and many like it, are full of amazed expressions at how IRRELEVANT the GOP has become.

MattJ   February 26th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Amy petulantly asks:

What is “your comment is awaiting moderation”? Are comments being filtered to meet the LIBERAL propaganda? You know you guys are the only ones that do that. You go to conservative blogs and they let EVERYONE express themselves. Liberals are usually pretty hateful, but hey, they like it that way, all heated debates are ALWAYS welcomed.

To which I, not CNN, reply: you are showing off your ignorance of several things: of the Internet, of blogging, of civil discourse, and of editorial privilege. No, comments are NOT "being filtered to meet hte liberal propaganda". And no, CNN is not the only blogging site to do this. There are many others. In fact, CNN is one of the quickest at approving the posts. I am still waiting for some blogs to approve a post made several days ago!

If anything the kids should go year 'round. The Japanese do why can't we? It works for them why wouldn't it work for us? Lets not re-invent the Chenney/Bush doctrine of "No Child Left Behind" Where we simply de-fund it.

About the racist Mayor and the Police officers. I think this is all leading up to a nasty racial confrontation which a lot wants but no one will win. If the Law enforcment agencies are full of racist, what do you expect? You may have to take your own road and be prepared regardless. The safety of you and your family comes first no matter what..

Even though I am white, I do feel the pain for my black brothers and sisters. Not all of the older whites are racist but the majority are, You must stop however, trying to be accepted by white folks because they are not going to change. Please remember this,You and your PRESIDENT OBAMA have more FRIENDS than enemies and we are worldwide. The United States is heading for total destruction if this racist mindset continue in it's form. We will come to your assistance should these racists take it further and it is about time.

We have a technology which can raise IQ scores 15 points, improve memory by 300% in the memory impaired learning disabled and attention deficit disorder child, reduce the need for medication in the ADD child, reduce oppositional behavior, meaningfully mainstream the special education child not by changing the teacher or the school but by changing the child's brain....how it functions. Our current tutoring approaches put on "one pound" of mental muscle, to use an analogy. The activation guided EEG biofeedback approach puts on 6 pounds of mental muscle. In my opinion, we could reduce the special education roles by 25% to 50% in a year, if the EEG biofeedback technology was applied correctly.
Washington and the Education Department needs to listen.

Why are you C-spanning (uneditted endless diatribe) Rush Limbaugh?

Why is "Focus on the Family" in equal availabilty at CNN.Com homepage as other major topics?

Are we contemplating a merger with Fox News?

Dean Knight   February 28th, 2009 7:51 pm ET

Rick, I'm 47 male who lost his job to downsizing at AT&T and has
been without health insurance for about 5 years. I can't buy any coverage because of preexisting health concern due to an accident
that happen since i have been unemployed. I fell while helping my father-law install ceiling pulldown door in which I broke my arm and shattered my r-knee and had my back fused. Ive applied to a number
of health insurance company and was told it wont happen. so when the republican
start whining about the cost of health care ,I at least can count on there
plan right ? oh that's right they don't have one and haven't in the last 8
years.I have been skating on thin ice for a while now and now i have a elephant on the ice with me aka republican. good luck Mr President
and God bless you will need both.

BABA   February 28th, 2009 8:16 pm ET

The cnn presentation on Black in America2 seems to suggest that White looking black people or light skined black peope are the actual representation of black in America. The TV can not define black people. Stop this imposition.

Rick; It's good to see those juges go to jail for taking bribes to incarcerate children, but what about the people who put up the bribe money? I haven't read or heard a word about them. I'm sure I speak for all law abiding Americans when I say that we are sick and tired of seeing people not getting charged with serious crimes. It sems especially true where large sums of money are concerned. If I get caught stealing a candy bar, I can assure you that I would go to jail. Why the double standard?

Kirtley Thornton, PhD   March 2nd, 2009 3:57 pm ET

There is currently available a technology which can revolutionize special education and the educational system, if applied correctly. The technology doesn’t change the school or the teacher. It changes the child’s brain with activation database guided EEG biofeedback, a non invasive and non medication approach. The research results have documented a 15 point increase on IQ tests, a 300% improvement in memory functioning, decreased distractibility, oppositional behavior, need for medication as well as a host of other positive outcomes. In my opinion, we could meaningfully declassify 25% to 50% of the special education population in a year, if the technology was applied appropriately. This would mean billions of dollars in savings and a significant change in the quality of life for these individuals, as well as positively effecting our criminal justice system. To use a muscle analogy, tutoring produces 1 pound of mental muscle while the EEG biofeedback approach produces 6 pounds of mental muscle. Both New York City and Chicago, and probably other cities, employ the Orton-Gillingham method which results in ½ pound of mental muscle which is equally obtained by the Orton-Gillingham video tape. If we are going to spend billions on improving education we need to stop using methods which have proven to be ineffective for decades.
Why isn’t the Department of Education looking at this approach?
Sincerely;
Kirtley Thornton, PhD

rick mr. duncan has a hard job ahead no matter how much he wants to change things when it comes to education he is gonna learn that when you compromise you have to try your best

Allen   March 3rd, 2009 6:51 am ET

A four day school week? If you want better education and a more efficient education system a full year school program should be put in place. This reduces class size and make better use of the school facilities. When politicians come to work they check their brains at the door.

Rick all I would like for you to ask ANY republican senator or congressman is are they more afraid of "RUSH" or the american people and when I say the american people I mean not just their constituents

Sylvia Turnage   March 4th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

Michael Steele as the head of the RNC should be ashamed of himself. He is a man not a boy, he should not have to apologize to anyone. Thats why so many american like Pres. Obama he was not afraid to go up against the heavy weights in his party. Mr. steele you need to take a page out of the Presidents book.

The_Ghost   March 4th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

I heard u talking today about them putting kids in jail and i dont agree with them doing that. Here in Pikeville,KY there have been several people that have been arrested with what should be a misdeamonor but they are throwing them in jail. There has been atleast one person that i know of that died in the jail we have. This Unite program we have has some good points but bad, they should help families with drug problems instead of just throwing them in jail and letting another family go sign up on welfare then complain that too many people are on welfare.

Dan Evans   March 5th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

OMG Rick, Its Wednesday and you're still talking about Rush. You only serve to elevate Rush by continuing to refer to his speech on Saturday. I am a republican myself, and Rush Limbaugh is the republican equivelent of the democrats James Carvil. Lets stay on message about how the Messiah is going to save the economy and give us all a job.

D Pinkerton   March 5th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Question:

Why doesn't anyone mention Rush Limbaugh breaking the law with his addiction to prescription drugs. So much for his conservative title...huh doesn't sound like he practices what he preaches. We have laws in this country and they should be the same for all of us. I think he should have been prosecuted. Seems to me everyone including the media seems to fear Mr. Limbaugh. Why, an addict is an addict?

avelino marques   March 5th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

rick; congratulations on the good job you are doing at cnn.
in regard to the health system in america it stinks; i used to live in australia and i never had any problem in seeing ANY DOCTER with a universal health care system

Dan Evans   March 5th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Mr President, just how are you going to pay for our health care? Tax us!

Terri   March 5th, 2009 4:33 pm ET

W.Va. Republicans appeal to public on welfare drug test plan
1 hr 53 mins ago | 38 views | 0 | 0 | | CHARLESTON (AP) — A proposal to test recipients of public assistance for illegal drugs has met with almost no Dem-ocratic support, so Republicans are appealing to West Virginians for help.

On Tuesday, Delegate Craig Blair, along with supporters of his drug testing proposal, said they were going over the heads of the Legislature’s Democratic leadership to urge members of the public to demand their lawmakers support the proposal.

The idea still has not come before the House of Delegates as a bill, but Blair says it will be ready next week.

Blair hoped to get six Democrats to sign on as co-sponsors, but so far only Fayette County Delegate Tom Louisos has come on board.

Blair is promoting the idea at ((edited))

I really wonder the potential impact of one very rich CEO wife emulating the first lady's gesture by assisting at a soup kitchen. What would it take to see the CEO's get into step with the less fortunate.

Cookie   March 6th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Rick,
Can you ask Mr. Duncan what I should do in this particular situation.....I had parent teacher conference yesterday and was informed that my 6th grader was not reading or comprehending at a 6th grade level. I asked the instructor if the child did summer school was there a chance the child could pass into the 7th grade. I was told that although the child is performing way below her assigned grade, she would indeed pass the7th grade, summer school was not necessary. I was SHOCKED, and asked why would they pass the child on knowing the child was under performing and I was told that due to the "no child left behind program" the child would go on with the hope that the "next" instructor would catch the child up. The two exceptions to this passing on rule was if the child was disruptive or violent, then that indicated "special needs" or when the child reaches 9th grade they can be held back because they have to pass the AIMS test here in Arizona to graduate. Can you ask Mr. Duncan how passing an under performing child serves the general public and is the best use of the "No child left behind policy"?

Respectfully,

Cookie

This Rihanna and Chris issue is so silly and needs to be put to rest.

hi!! I'm watching your show as I write; could it be that this is just a simple situation of a battered woman, where they don't see reality after the fact and psychologically speaking, they think it could be normal because of something they might've said or done. My personal opinion, he needs anger mgt. instruction and she needs to seek help to see the other side of the coin.

Hope you will atleast look into it and tell the real story of all the corruption here and the way the city "nitwitts" handle, excuse me not handle the crime that is out of control!! thanks rick

To: Rick Sanchez
Today, at 12:45 PM, March 6, 2009, you did it again!!! You referred to our President of the United States as Barack Obama and not “President Obama.” I had just flipped the channel to CNN about the time you were talking about that 1.2 million dollar house. That's when I heard you say Barack Obama!!!! It's President Obama!!!!

It makes you sound racist, angry and resentful that President Obama is our President!!! If you don’t like him don’t talk about him! Don’t talk about what he does or how he is doing a great job in being the Administrator that we need, that this country needs.

BE RESPECTFUL!!!!

ON TELEVISION SHOW OUR PRESIDENT AND OUR COUNTRY THE RESPECT HE DESERVES!!!! Off camera do what you like!!!!

Hindsight: I guess this is a free country and if you continue to disrespect our President I will just stop taping you/watching you. I never watch Ralph Limbaugh; I can just put you in his category!

Lurline Kester.   March 6th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

Hi Rick,
I tried to e mail you yesterday but somehow it did not go through. I am a Canadian vacationing in Panama City Beach, Florida. I got ill and had to seek medical care. What a run around. I finally gave up exhausted. Even with medical insurance I ran into major difficulties. Too many to mention. All I can say it is one of the most inefficient systems in the world. And believe me I am widely travelled. Billions of dollars are going down the drain. Meanwhile Americans have been asleep at the wheel.

Finally President Obama has come to the rescue. Wake up before the country and millions of lives are lost.

Sincerely,
Lurline.

I'd like to know how u find out who all gets earmarks and how much cause i was born in ky and couldnt believe that ky was getting 53 mil in earmarks that is ridiculous because they get grants for programs like this unite program in which they havent stopped drugs dont know what they do with the money only thing they know to do is throw people in jail and ask for money instead of doing thier job if the state cant do better than this then they dont need no more funding the way i see it

Rick,
Has anybody thought about the fact that there a large number of “Baby Boomers” retiring at this time? This may be having some dramatic effect on the economy. As a recent retiree, I can tell you that my spending habits have change simply because I don’t have the same needs as I did when I was working.

Here is the question that stupifies me....all these corp executes claim that just HAVE to receive millions in bonuses paid on the back of taxpayers or they will look for other jobs. JUST WHERE ARE THOSE JOBS???? If anyone knows who is hiring, please let the millions of people who have lost their jobs know so they can avail themselves of the same alleged employment opportunities. Even my dog knows these guys are lying through their teeth.

In addition, in thier arrogance, they think their threat to quit is going to scare the average struggling tax payer. Wake up! The entire country would be grateful to get rid of these bunch of theives. If they do quit, the american collective thought bouble will read: boo hoo.

Why isn't anyone asking this basic and practical question?????? Afraid of the answer????

Michael Green RPh   April 23rd, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Rick Two stories I would like to comment on. Pharmacy errors. This is no big surprise in today's "show me the Money" Pharmacist and Pharmacy Techs are overworked and underpaid. How can they, not make mistakes, when doing double or triple duties. A Pharmacist should be checking prescriptions, not ringing a register, answering phones, putting up stock. A Phamacy tech should be typing orders, counting medication, not running to the register, Pharmacy's should have a cashier doing the non profession duties period. Distraction causes mistake! Did you know Pharmacist can work 14 straight hours without one break!

Story two The reporter that was cuffed in Texas. Was that arrogant mistake for an officer lucky it wasn't all 240 lbs of me. I'm sure I would have been jailed while that fat little Nazi spent the rest of the month hospitalized with a broken Jaw!
