Jindal & Steele

Jindal & Steele: the new rising stars of the GOP.

Check out the new rock stars of the Republican party: Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal and newly-named head of the RNC Michael Steele.

Really? The Republican party?

These two guys are very similar (not only because they ethnically break the GOP mold) but also very different politicians.

Governor Jindal will deliver his party's response to the president's first prime-time address to the nation. Steele says the Republican party's new public relations campaign is going to be "off the hook", as he aims GOP principles as what he calls "urban-suburban hip-hop settings".

Wow.

Rick grills CNN Political Editor Mark Preston on the new vision and new faces of the Grand Old Party, and takes your questions and comments from Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook.

It's a smart conversation.

The Republican Party is floundering, and instead of trying to repair their damaged image from within, their solution is to attack every plan that President Obama suggests to help this country, at every turn.
It's time that they start working for the people that they chose to represent, instead of laying the platform(s) to run for the presidency in 2012!

Dufus   February 24th, 2009 12:10 pm ET

We only have one working party at this moment in time. The republicans are on vacation and their only duty is to make sure our president fails. They have large names like Ann "I hate America" Coulter and Rush "It's only Viagra" Limbaugh as their voice. They have become very good at pointing fingers and making up stuff but not so good at working out a solution. Let me take that back.. They have managed to start something called a "Tea Party" Thanks Republicans! Every person that is losing their job and their home wants to thank you for your effort (?) When Bush was in office it was amazing how the republican could do no wrong. If you went againist Bush and Darth Cheney, bad things happened to you. Republican you need to get your as* back to work and quit bit$hing. Find a solution and quit being part of the problem. If you can't do that... may I suggest a Republican vacation spot called Iraq?

sean brizendine   February 24th, 2009 12:16 pm ET

rick the republican part must make some serious changes or it will cease to exist.

Rick-The Republican Party needs to change its name to the Lemming
Party.Whatever the chief Lemming says aka Rush Limbaugh the rest of them just follow him to the sea.

Rob Joyce   February 24th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

Rick, screw the GOP, they are the ones who got us in this mess! How about that Postmaster General Potter, as a fellow USPS employee (letter Carrier) I`m appalled that a government offical makes more than the Prez, outrageous! Then he talks of 5 day delivery day and the countless number of us he wants to eliminate so he can sit fat up in DC, its just not right! Most of all of my customers dont want mail 5 days they want 6 just the way it is. Its time to call for Potters head and all the rest of the pay leaks in the USPS! Leave the guys who is doing all the work alone and clean house from the top!

horace   February 24th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Mr. Steele and his Republican Party better wake up!!! I was a Republican until I saw the light. This party is not for us voter it is for there gain. So I became a Dem. Voted for change.

David Codina   February 24th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

For the past 8 years we the people have to put up the narrow minded Republican Party. Now that they have lost some of there power they fight any new idea that comes up. Lets give President Obama sometime to try to fix things. It took Bush and Cheney 8years to mess up the country it may take that long to fix it.

sandy m   February 24th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

Latest: @ricksanchezcnn We need to spend more money on educating our kids about money management. Then we won't have an economic crisis like the one we have today. Add responsible spending saving, and ethical investing. Even the kids that go to college are given multiple credit cards from banks. They are already in debt before they graduate and have a real job.

Lilarose in Bandon, Oregon   February 24th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Who cares about the Republican party?

I care about getting our nation back on its feet.

These Bozos are NOT interested in getting our nation back on its feet.

They are only interested in putting cogs in Obama's attempts to help our nation.

These Bozos should be put in jail for treason.

Lori   February 24th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Anyone can be a conservative. What is the difference what ethnic background or color you are. Look up conservatism. What it means. People don't even know! Talking about boxing people in.

Todd E. Mashlan, a/BSG   February 24th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

While not normally very cynical, I have a hard time seeing these 'new faces' being put forward as simply a change in window dressing.

The GOP message is the same. The medicine that the GOP is offering the ailing US economy isn't going to help us any more just because they found a different nurse to deliver the shot.

What is the GOP's endgame here? Do they really think it makes a difference who they push in front of the cameras and mics?

Todd,

If President Obama really wanted to cut the deficit in half he could do it in one year!! 1 Freeze all federal hiring. 2 Enforce the nepotism law thats already on the books. 3 A 10% pay cut for all federal employees. 4 No travel out of U.S. by any federal empolyee (congress & sentors especially). 5 Cut congress & senate to one each, for every state. 6 No bonuses to federal empolyees for next 4 years. This is no more than the federal government is asking of bussiness that has over extended in their on bussinesses. At a 1.5 trillon dollar deficit this is what the American public would like to see. Poll the American public to see!!!

Kori Cooper   February 24th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

The republicans puposly put these guys forward to make people think that race is no factor to them. They want people to think they are not full of bigotry. Thats it in a nutshell.

clockwork321   February 24th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Micheal Steele is a clown. He thinks just because he's black that he can make the republican party's platform more appealing to african americans. He's wrong on that front. And he can also give up on reaching the urban-suburban hip hop crowd, we all know he's just a wolf in sheeps clothing.

susan deflora   February 24th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Dear Rick Sanchez:
Note to Bobby Jindal & Republican friends: you and your party were still in office as of January 19th, 2008 and it begs the question: what were you doing to address a financial crisis of your party's making over the last eight years that is unprecedented in our lifetimes?! Answer? Nothing! How dare you criticize this President's courageous efforts to solve this problem! This is unvarnished political whining, obstructionism and is hugely counterproductive. History will not be kind to you as a result. If you're so clever and so convinced that you have all the right answers, where in heck were you as this mess was developing? I have yet to hear a reporter pose this question to the Republicans taking jibes at President Obama's efforts. Voters aren't stupid. Rick, be the first to pose this question please. I can't wait to see them attempt a dodge!

connieallenbury   February 24th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

The Republicans can go 'brown' all they want, the message is still corrupt. The gall of a governor of all states, LA, suggesting that he may not take federal funds is pathetic.
Jindal is shameless in spewing the same ol' rot: i.e. " $50 million for the arts! " Heavens no! Not those profligate artists again!
Republicans need to be reminded every day that they, for the most part, got us into this mess, until we are out of it. And you, RIck, are apparently the only guy who'll take it on.
Your hour has made it the only hour on CNN to watch! You get more in in one hour than the other 23. Moves along, great guests.
We can make up our own minds, w/out the analysts.

Phyllis Porter   February 24th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Politicians like Jindal scare me! He's out there grand-standing while people are suffering. Who's he working for?

Purnell Kankakee IL.   February 24th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Michael Steele is dumb, and Bobby Jindal learn to do your job, which is to provide a safe enviroment, and oppurtuintiyes for the people of your state! Do not become a Republican lacky, or you will be out of office so fast your head will spin!!!

connieallenbury   February 24th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

The Republicans can go 'brown' all they want–the message is the same ol' rot. i.e. Jindal's "$50 million for the arts!" Oh no! Not those profligate artists again!
The Republicans need to be reminded every day that they are, for the most part, responsible for the mess we're in. (See Reagan, Bush Wars, Bush tax cuts, Bush Gift to Big Pharma etc.) At least until we're out of it.
And you, Rick, are apparently emerging as the man to do it.
Great show! Your hour is the one hour of news to watch. Somehow, you get more in your hour than the other 23...

Shaman   February 24th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

I can't beleive that to this day no one has come up and said that Osama bin ladin is winning the war against U.S. He wanted to drain U.S financial system to the ground and he contines to make headline news to date. Georgia W Bush and his cabnet should be exiled from the us and sent to Afganistan.

Hasen The Turk   February 24th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Rick, if at all possible, would you check the information on "AIG" holding the retirement trust fund for all our elected officials in congress? If it is true then that would answer the question, why did they bail AIG out so fast, and for so much money. With more to follow.

Thanks,

Hasen

That cartoon was degrading and humiliating as well as prehistoric! schulz is rolling over in his grave from a fellow cartoonist embarrasing him.

hardtimesinchicago   February 24th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

Why is there no relief for those of us who had to take out their 401K plans to survive last year? Now when you get your taxes done, you get reminded that you're going further in debt when the IRS nails you for early removal of funds.

connieallenbury   February 24th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

re your current Iraq story: I loved your reporter's expressions as you suggested US should withdraw sooner rather than later...one of the reasons we got into this war and one of the reasons there is such acceptance of war occupatiojn policy (i.e. no wholesale protests) is the reportage of your CNN reporters. While they are indubitably brave, at a certain point, they are enablers, They filter the story. They become nothing more than cheerleaders for continued occupation and that most recent minute with DAWA was an example. If she wants to set military policy, she should join the war planners. I hear there is another big war in the making not all that far from where she is now.

Hasen The Turk   February 24th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Rick, follows is my view for America's Recovery:

First place so many mistakes have been made, by all those in Washington, who have little or no knowledge of economics. 250 economist said, the bailout was a bad ideal for the financial sector of the economy. Lo, and behold they were were right, just look at it now. They created the problem, so with out replacing them, they will continue to do the same. "Greed" is the word that moves all who deal in money, nothing more, nothing less. And, our congress is filled with "Greedy" elected officials. We the people are being sold a bill of goods, that are nothing but "AIR", "SMOKE & MIRRORS". Unless the American people wake up, and take back this country from "BIG BUSINESS", who have our country, and its government in the palm of their hands, as it were. So since our congress has no "GUMPTION" to work with, there is not much hope for America, and its people! I can only pray to God, that He will come soon, and give us the relief we so need! But for the sake of the matter, I will tell you what needs to be done by all of you in Washington. 1. Put all that money into the hands of those who control, and affect the economy, the "People". When I took Economics in College, the one thing I got out of it is this. It is all a hit, and miss deal. Since no one knows what the people will do, they can only hope to make good guess. The people are fickled, and will move in many directions at once, or non at all. If anyone knew what the public would do, so SALE would ever be needed in retail, auto industry, and any other business. They would just set the price that people want, and leave it at that. As for the Financial sector, they will do what is necessary to survive, some will others will not. Nothing can be done about it. So inject the money into the pockets of the people, and they will act accordingly. "SPEND, SAVE, INVEST" 2. Do not purchase those "BAD ASSETS" of the financial sector, they are only "AIR", worthless in every sense of the word. And if you convince the private sector people to buy them, you will be no better than Financier Madoff, who bilked billions of dollars out of those same people. So stop the establishing of the "Bad Bank". 3. The people of America want Universal Health Care, good or bad, it is certainly needed, WHY? Because every middle class family is just one real bad illness away from total financial melt down, and bankruptcy. I am sure that congress is well aware of this fact! 4. Reduce the size of government in Washington, one that deals only with the Security of this country, via the Military might we, should have at all times. Minimize the taxes to only what is needed to take care of this job. 5. Send government back to each state, let them tax as needed to insure Universal Health Care works, that every child who wants to attend college, can do so free. Run out all illegal drugs, and stop the reason for its need by so many. 6. Close the borders utilizing the Military, and restart the manufacturing again in the United States, Start drilling for our own oil, and find better ways to save on energy, for this country. Plant more trees every where, clean up our forest of all that fire causing bush, allow cut back by property owners of those dangers, that will cause the loss of their home. Tax smoking completely out of any ones range, demand the tobacco companies instead grow corn, sugar cane, and other things that can be use in making alternative fuels. 7. Let this great country, once again become the "United States of America", with government "Of The People", By The People", and "For The People" Only if we unite against all that is feeding on our uncertainty, fear, and loss of God in our hearts, will we be able to defeat all who stand against us. We must return to God, and his ways, to prosper. God Bless this United States of America!

clockwork321   February 24th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Shame on america if we have to rescue aig again. Say goodbye to the free market guys. We're well on our way to socialism, or at least that's what it looks like.

Michael   February 24th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

The Republican Party are the biggest bunch of babies that I've ever seen. For the first time in about 30 years they have no control and are just a bit freaked out!
I think that I remember when "W" was elected if you didn't go along with all of his nonsense you were called "Unpatriotic"...these people actually want to see Obama and the Dems fail. This is not about them it's about the country...or did they forget about that...what a bunch of children...no wonder we're in this mess..

Doctor_Splatz   February 24th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Hi Rick,
It's obvious the GOP are trying REALLY hard to change their image after the embarrassment of the McCain/Palin ticket relying on pandering to the "hockey moms" and "Joe Six-Packs".

Marie   February 24th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

We are just sick and tired of the republicans bashing everything President Obama says. We have a good leader now and I think that we should all see what he can do with his stimulus plan. If some governers don't want to take any money give it to another state. The republicans got us into this mess and they should agree to help to try to get us out of this mess. I sure would like to know where all the money that Mr. Bush dished out went. Katrina money and etc.
The republicans just do not want President Obama to succeed. They want to be able to say" I told you it wouldn't work". We finally have a president that is honest, will keep us informed of whats going on and most of all he cares about all of us. Bush should be ashamed of what he has done to our country!!!!!!

Purnell Kankakee IL.   February 24th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

We could save many hundreds of billions if most of our soldiers that are over seas would come back home. Most of the countries that they are in are not at war, they are just wasteing vast amounts of our resouces for nothing! The military industrial complex is nothing but a big waste of money!

josh   February 24th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

If we are holding the auto industry so accountable, when they got way!! less $ why are the banks getting away with so much?

Dee Bovenzi   February 24th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

What law stops the government from getting a detailed list of where all that money went from Bush's 350 billion was spent by these banks / organizations/ etc? why not insist on a recovery.gov for them also? Bush's / Cheney Big Business buddies not required to be accountable? Now that's real fair to us Americans who pay taxes huh? Thanks Rick

Janet Glazier   February 24th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

I agree with ron from Alabama (except he mis-spelled Business)

Shaman   February 24th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Another thing I wanted to mentions is why people are getting so upset or suprised about the raising crime rate. Isn’t it obvious that when people run out of money and food, they will do anything possible to survive?

nick harding   February 24th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

These 5 gop gov's who are posturing and refusing a small portion of the stimulus(but believe whole program is pork) are known bomb throwers, and interested in their own careers. On our backs! Is it a coincedence that they represent the poorest states in the country? Perhaps their decisions are flawed.

Purnell Kankakee IL.   February 24th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

The Republicans did this whole thing to force down wages, just look around people are taking 50% pay cuts, just to keep a job! The republicains have tryed for years to drag down wages, and now they have finally completed their misson, as our country falls apart!

RebelIraq   February 24th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

First of all my prayers out to those soldiers and thier familys. However the soldiers and the way that they were taken by suprise is not a new tactic. The Iraqi Police Departments have been wearing the uniforms of Police as well as Posing as ladies wearing the burka in all black since 2004. The bottom line is pulling out of Iraq to soon is not the right answer unless you want to have these Tactics start here on our own soil!!!

G G   February 24th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Rick….
Did any one of Democrat had guts to say that They want Pres. G. W Bush to fail, while they all wished he fail, and did everything in their power so that He fail, and make him fail, just to get back in to Power, at cost of our country’s best prospects.

Now you have guts to compare and suspect the politics of Rush’s comment and Gov. Jindal’s comment about what They want. You should read and understand what Rush wants to fail. Rush and majority of American people want Pres. Obama’s progress toward Socialism to fail, nor Pres. Obama to fail. Why can’t Democrate have guts to say out loud that they want to take our country to Socialism?

rocky lathom   February 24th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

HELLO RICK, AM FAN AND WATCH EVERY DAY, TODAY YOU ACTED SURPRISED THAT AN IRQQI POLICEMAN SHOT SOME OF OUR SOLDIERS, GUESS WHAT IN THE LAST 8 YEARS WE HAVE KILLED OR CAUSED TO BE KILLED SOME 1 MILLION PEOPLE IN IRAQ ( RED CROSS AND U.N. NUMBERS) NOT TO MENTION THE 2 BOMBINGS BACK TO THE STONE AGE, THE SANCTIONS AND THE OVER1 MILLION REFUGEES, A WHOLE LOT OF THEM DONT LIKE US.WE NEED TO GET OUT OF THIER MILITARILY AND JUST AID THEM IN RECONSTRUCTION AND TRAINING, WE COULD SAVE A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY,LIVES AND HEADACHES, IF THEY CHOOSE TO HAVE AN REVOLUTION O.K., WE DID AND SURVIVED.

ronald blanton   February 24th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Purnell Kankakee IL.   February 24th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

I am glad that one of the laws makers came out today and said that those bums that are talking about not help the people of thier states, can not pick and chose the parts of the rescue that they want to take. So either you take the help or you get no money , and the people of your states know what to do throw those bums out of office!

Shira T   February 24th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

The Republican Party is determined to try to look as much like the Democratic Party (President Obama) by putting brown faces on their leadership and in front of the news media. Steele & Jindhal are just wolves in sheep clothing. People are not so easily fooled....if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck – it's a duck. It's a shame they're allowing themselves to be manipulated and used by a desperate Republican Party.

G G   February 24th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Rick

When YOU will talk about Ponze scheme by Maddoff is negligent compare to Our Beloved Government’s Ponze Scheme involving all of the US citizens – The Great Social Security Ponze Scheme.

Can you please, find out and confirm that Social Security System is THE WORLDS Greatest Ponze SCHEME ?????

Thanks

Faye, Crossett, AR   February 24th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Rick Sanchez, I just listened to you refer to "Secretray Clinton" and "Envoy" Holbrook, but you referred to the PRESIDENT, as Barack Obama. You do this all the time and I find it disrespectful, offensive and totally unprofessional. PRESIDENT OBAMA and MRS. OBAMA or FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA have earned the right to be respected as you respect others. I have referenced this time and time again and you seem tone deaf to it. SO ONE MORE, TIME.........HE IS PRESIDENT OBAMA!!

Hasen TheTurk   February 24th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Rick, it is true, Osama Bin Laden, said he would take us down financially, so that is why he took down the twin towers (the center of our financial system)! What is happening now in the economy, is just the direct results of destruction of those towers. He has succeeded, and no one mentions it. We are now ripe for the take over by his cohorts, who are waiting in the wings of our society. Like 10 million of them. Just waiting the word to come. May God Bless, and Protect America!

don   February 24th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Rick, only in Chicago!, A couple of weeks ago a teenager obtained a Chicago police uniform, entered a station and went on an actual patrol with an real cop for about 4 hours until he was discovered, only in Chicago!!

Kiki   February 24th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Rick, I don't know why you are so worried about what the Republicans say and think. Stick to your liberal democrat agenda all you want, we'll take care of ours. Liberals talk and talk and talk because they feel threatened by the truth the Republicans point out.
BO talks a good talk but we are yet to see results. Time will tell. Meanwhile everyone has their hand out for their share........shame

Mike Pearce   February 24th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Why doesnt Obama say to the governors who are complaining and refusing to take part of the stimulus package, Fine, then you dont get any and you can explain to the folks in your state why they are suffering much more than others.
Maybe we will have new governors come election day.

Rob in Tarpon Springs, FL   February 24th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

I am deeply disppointed that A.I.G. has already burned through the $50 B we "loaned" them a couple of months ago. Now they are asking for another fifty bill. No way, Jose'! I sincerely hope we never loan another dollar to those jerks again. We lost a $273 million satellite at Vanderberg, so we're a little strapped for cash.

Shira T   February 24th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Rupert Murdoch figures that he can with less than a 50 word apology make everything okay. Of course he felt threatened by Rev. Sharpton's questioning how he can own so many media outlets in NY without objection. I suspect that is his only motivation. I don't think he really understood the pain & insult associated with that cartoon for African-Americans & others, he only understood the pain that might be associated with the threat to his pocketbook – thus the apology.

Nancy Perkins   February 24th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

It is disgusting that such a man can spew hatred and do it through so many news media. There should be legislation passed not allowing one individual to own and influence media against bigotry and racism.

Audrey Taylor   February 24th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I used to buy the NY Post every day but stopped during the primaries, because of their racist rhetoric. The NY Post will never see another dime from me and I encouraged all of my friends to boycott as well. The is no excuse for this. You would have to live on the moon to not know that this is offensive.

Vern Shipley   February 24th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

There is much talk about nationalizing banks. What is really needed is
to make derivatives illegal. They are the single biggest cause of our
current financial crisis. There is no law requiring that derivative holdings
or derivative transactions be reported to anyone. I've heard estimates of
up to 100 trillion total derivative holdings in the USA. The fact is that they
are a giant betting game – very irresponsible and damaging to our
economy.

Purnell Kankakee IL.   February 24th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Those Governors putting on s show for everyone can be kicked out of office right now do not wait till the next election, that is what happened in California and how Arnold Schwarzenegger got into office, Grey Davis got kicked out of office by the people of the state!

So kick those fakes out of office right now, the people of the states need help now!

Shira T   February 24th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Burris was a snake from the get-go. It's funny that some people seemed to be "snowed" by him. I think some folks always smelled a rat, after all he was chosen by the biggest rat BLAGOJEVICH. Burris looked like a little weasel, acted like a one, and if the Senate does his job, they will forthrightly expel him. He's stupid not to resign!

ronald blanton   February 24th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Jim Hood   February 24th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Aren't you a bit self-righteous about the incident involving our troops and possibly Iraqi Police. Obviously you have never been in ground combat or you wouldn't give such high drama. Every war has friendly fire incidents, no matter, how well planned. Things just don't always happen by plan. A plan tries to minimize friendly fire and eliminate it. If it was an insurgent and the more time passes the facts seem blurred as to who the shooter or shooter were, then your editorial blurb is misplaced. None us ever want to see our soldiers injured much less by possible allies. If you can figure how to stop adreniline and fear, you can sell it worldwide. No amount of training will cure the cause. It will only help minimize. Unfortunately only experience helps minimize it; but even seasoned soldiers carry the residuals. The important thing is: don't you jump the gun with assumptions based on early facts. It seems to me the mud you began to sling is circling back.

Dean Knight   February 24th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

hey rick listen up, I am sick and tired of hearing the republiecan telling we the people what wrong with the world ills, they are , when leaders

usefulness has expired , the biggest joke going now is what dummie

Rick, on the topic of US soldiers being shot by, maybe a police, is very sad, with all due respect, should it be sadder than when US soldiers kill children?
No one deserve to be killed in any reason however accident does and will occur.

I'm aware that Canadians solders are being blamed for, maybe forgetting a shell that might have killed three innocent children and that too is very sad, my condoles to all family members and friends...

We need to cut defense spending by 50% there is so much waste we had warehoses full of stuff that was sitting there just rotting away, nothing but waste it just doss not make any since to waste so much money for nothing. I remeber a wrench costing 45 buck , when i could go to sears and get the same wrench for less then five bucks!

Some of the comments have gotten off point to discuss the subject "this doesn't look like the Republican Party". I, for one, think Mr. Steele's thinking that the new image of the Republican Party will be 'off the hook' is ludacrist. Just as rediculous as the media and pundits think President Obama is to blame for our current economy. Mr. Steele and the Republicans think they can put an African American in a high post and lure Black voters to them. First, he needs to recruit Jaun Williams (a Fox News Commentator) and Clarence Thomas (Supreme Court Justice). These are the ultimate OREO cookies in the limelight. Second, Steele should have declined acceptance to this position in the first place. He reeks of John McCain's persuit to keep America going down the same path as George Bush did the last eight years, becuase people don't want him to cater to us and that is what bush did and McCain promised to do. Contrary to popular belief, people hate the truth but, it trumps needless lies and falsehoods.
If he wants to make an impact in the Republican circle, marry Sarah Palin or her daughter. This would prove to the party that he is on board. If he is trying to run for president in 2012 he may want to become a community organizer first in,,,,, Beverly Hills.

steve   February 24th, 2009 8:34 pm ET

Rick, You took Rush's comments out of context during your show on Mon. He said he hoped President Obama fails IF HE GOVERNS FROM THE LEFT. If you want to be fair and balanced, include the correct context. If you want to be biased, keep up serving the one-sided crap.

Leya   February 24th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Who the hell does Bobby Jindal think he is? He's not our President, he needs to get off of his soapbox and stop campaiging. We are a nation in crisis, I'm not interested in his race to the White House.

tough one   February 24th, 2009 11:11 pm ET

None of you girls know what your talking about. If Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter had any control over the Republican Party they sure as hell would not have picked John McCain to be the Republican nominee for president. And with Micheal Steele and Bobby Jindal they are successful minorities who are educated, smart, and do not complain about their skin color nor do they use it as an excuse not to succeed in this great country.

prgxango   February 25th, 2009 3:28 am ET

Do these people (the republican machine) really think the average American is that stupid...if they really think that "browning" the party is going to get them back into the white house , they need to get all those idiots free memberships to tanning salons. What an insult to our people...

prgxango   February 25th, 2009 4:01 am ET

Didn't they learn when they put Sara Palin up against Hilary Clinton? The republican machine really beileved that because suddenly a "woman" who happened to be "white" had good numbers in the polls (Hilary), they could just throw at us (america) another "white woman" and we would embrace her and vote for her...

The majority of Americans have finally recognized that this is all propoganda and that the republican party has little or no credibility,

According to Lerner who wrote about Psychological Warfare; Credibility is a condition of persuasion. Before you can make a man do as you say, you must make him believe what you say.

That is the challenge that the Republican party faces and cannot figure out how to solve!

After 75 years of living, much of it as a midwest Republican now an Independent, I feel a melancholy sadness for "the old guard..."

Kinda like looking back at old mental misfits who couldn't step with me into a younger, positive future, the concepts of which they could not welcome. As they sat motionless last night, watching (not listening) to my President, their stern, scrunched-up old faces saying "leave-me-alone-I'm-old and mad" reminded me why I became independent.

God save us from the greedy fools and tired old farts who almost killed our Country.

Kiki   February 25th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Rick, sorry to say but you are sounding more and more like your pal, Chris Matthews. He should not be reporting on any political event in light of his left-wing liberal agenda. His remark "Oh God" when Bobby Jindal spoke after BO's speech is just beyond the pale. No wonder msnbc has the lowest ratings. They are about to tank!

Joe   February 25th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

Isn't it just like The Republican Party who for 8 years haven't done anything to help anyone but themselves. Lets look at the Last 8yrs under the republican party. Started a war with a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. Said that the oil woiuld pay for the war but that never happened. we never went after Bin Ladin. Had billions lost and also blackwater no bid contracts along with Halliburton. Costing the american people 12billion+ a month for 8 years. No healthcare coverage, No border security, so what did the republican run gov't do for the people. NOTHING!!!! Now lets look at the Obama Presidency in the last month. Signed into Law Equal pay Rights for women. Extended unemployment benefits for people who have lost their jobs. Given college $2500 a semester to college students. Helpi9ng people with their health coverage by picking up 65% of he Cobra coverage. Signed the v chip for childrens healthcare. Now i say which party is looking out for the people. If the Republicans have better ideas then they should tell us what they are instead of criticizing Pres. Obamas plan.

Barb1937   February 25th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

Is Jindal related to Rush Limbaugh? Just thought yearning for attention was hereditary!! At least Obama is TRYING - and this from a lifelong conservative - me! At least, he is trying! SOOOO, Gov. Jindal and Rush Limbaugh, SHUT UP!

Debbie   February 25th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Jindal was conceived in India, therefore, he's Indian born - not American-born. He can't be President, if according to his religion, life begins at conception.

Yes, they have. And they have also succeeded in the "dumbing down" of American. Republicans are satisfied when middle-America is poor and stupid because that's when power can be wielded - and riches made by those at the top.

GOP= Governors of Oppression and Poverty. I am livid about the response from Governor Bobbi Jindal and others in his republican party. One of the poorest states in the union and he is refusing aid. Louisiana has suffered numerous murders literal and emotional from the neglect of this nations politicians ie Gorge W. Bush – Katrina Now this governor wants do the same Ike and Jindil. Neglect his people in there time of need. Inhumane Criminal. Shameful. This from a man that was likely apart of a “cast system”. From ‘Slum Dog Millionaire’ to ‘Slum Lord Millionaires’. Spending trillion on the war to murder but now wants to be conservative to save lives with a fraction of the funds. Quoting hardships to become assimilated to this country. The scales are tilted for immigrants that come to this country with all benefits in their favor.

Quite frankly, when I turned to this speach by Bobby Jindal, I thought I had missed his speach and this was a Saturday Night Live spoof. I literally had to think about what day is was. I thought his speach was a joke!

Rick, Did you notice the GOP leaders last night looking at each other wondering who they are going to run against obama???

mrdean n Seattle   February 25th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Rich I thonk the GOP
Gone Oldmans Party were too tired to stand up last night at the speech the tax cuts have woren them down
If Bobby J is their rising star then last night showed he was speaking to a third grade class.
they better start looking for a new Star

mrdean n Seattle   February 25th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

if this is an exaple of their broght new idea the republican party is still in trouble.
But of course what can you expect from their supporters they liked George Bush and thought Shara was the best

Bill   February 25th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Rick: I am a life long Republican. I am embarassed by the attitude and behavior of the GOP. McConnell and Boehner act like carmudeons. Jindal was embarassing; but most of McCain's failure to provide real leadership with new ideas. Instead we had Palin and the same old/same old – tax cuts, finger pointing and do nothing. The reality is a total inabiliity to be leaders – Bush was not a leader and they can't master leadership. It is a true shame for the party!

Ken   February 25th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

I'm from Louisiana & I'm embarrassed over Jindal's performance & remarks last night. He is so obviously a party man that he won't do what's right for the people of Louisiana or the U.S. I didn't vote for him or McCain, & I wouldn't ever waste a vote on a Republican.

The Republican solution is right! But they're applying it to the wrong problem. The republican party should go bankrupt and go away, not the US auto industry.

Joel Rutledge   February 25th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Hey Jindal I bet you would not turn down 260 million for early warnings about Hurricanes. Some of us live in an area where their is a real threat from volcanos. What a crummy speech, I have seen better speeches in Speech 101 class. Just another subpar politician that will loose the next election for the GOP again.

alani   February 25th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

The Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for setting Jindal up last night. They mistakenly believe that American's voted for Obama because he was African American. So now they have put Steele and Jindal out as representatives of the party. All they are doing is assuring that these two men will not have a political future.

Michael   February 25th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

This Republican is tired of hearing the same rhetoric from the Republicans that did not work during the campaign and it does not work now. The Republicans need to change and give us Republican some answers not just throw barbs at those who are trying.

Rob in Tarpon Springs, FL   February 25th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

I would have much rather have heard from Ahnuld last night instead of Jindal, but Ahnuld can't run for prez, and his last year as Calif. governor is 2011, so it's no secret why they chose Jindal. Obstructionist and oppurtunists as usual.

The GOP got us in this mess. If people are against helping the banks and they fail there is no way that the goverment would be able to pay back all the money back. We live in an electronic age, no one handles real money anymore. There not enough money in the world to pay this back. If this fails, we will have something worse than the bank failing in the 1930's

Ramon L.   February 25th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

The more interesting tidbit is that for the first time in American history you have an Indian minority rebutting a Black minority in a joint session of Congress.

People blame capitalism for the 10-trillion deficit and economic struggles we are facing and yet the 65-trillion in social welfare obligations that this government owes and keeps shoving down our throats is nowhere to be heard in the news media. When the Medicare, Medicaid and other social programs we are in the hook for come to light, you worries today will pale in comparison to anything you or anyone has ever imagined. Just wait and we can then watch and listen to the spin doctors once again wave the fingers of blame that point to everyone but themselves in Congress.

Enjoy your retirements people, this is exactly how the socialized countries have always wanted your country, THE US, to be – worse off than they are.

Rob in Fla .   February 25th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Rick , my folks have always said they can remember where they were the day JFK was shot . I believe soon I will be able to say " I can remember where I was the day the Republican Party died . It's a new day , America is moving on , Rush , Bobby and Macain , so long and goodbye . "

T. D. Merrick   February 25th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Rick I must say being a native of New Orleans and having had voted for Bobby the first time he ran, must say I was very disapointed in his recent stand against the President. He seem to have been a refreshing change from politics as usual. Southern Louisiana is in NO position for him refuse government moneies in which he can use to stimulate what has been a failing region from over 10 years of which Katrina did not help. He can get caught up in the same hipe the Sarah expereinced and loss sight of the folk that put him there and the reason why but rebuilding and bring new industry to the state in imparative therefore he has no free time to get caught up in Washington politics. Cars for the Federal Government = Job for American Car Manufacturers....Duh
Bobby, Harry would have given hell after last nights speech.

Rick, it is clear that Bobby went for himself as I'm sure the other rebel republican Govs would have

Stan H.   February 25th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

Was Mr Jindal thinking, I think not. Louisiana may not have to deal with volcanos but other US citizens do. Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and others do . Maybe Mr Jindal thinks the US could give up hurricane research if they toss out volcano research. Was Mr Jindal thinking of just his state or the whole country?

Phyllis Montana-Leblanc   February 25th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Gov. Jindal seemed to have strings in is back when he spoke on his reasons for rejecting the stimulus bill for Louisiana. The city of New Orleans has not rebounded since Hurricane Katrina and he is rejecting money for the State and cities here? He needs to be impeached for putting our state in danger of never recovering. The Republican Party has spent so much of the people's money and they are afraid of that being found out by President Obama's transparency rules. So, The Republicans have brainwashed so many people that we are all going to end up suffering at their hands. True Colors are showing. This is not a hand out for poor people, this is a hand up from what 8 years of President Bush did to this country. When the people wake up from their sleep, I hope it doesn't hurt them too bad.

Phyllis Montana-Leblanc   February 25th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

The United States of America is in deep trouble. When you have a governor of Louisiana rejecting money to stimulate the economy, lie about what's in the package, knowing the state and it's cities are still suffering from hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Gustav, he is crazy!!!! So, all of the folks who are going to end up being laid off from their jobs, will not be able to pay their bills or feed their families. And if it is a predominately black thing, recession has not discrimation. Recession is recession and we have a governor rejecting money? He is lying about what he says is in the stimulus bill. Taxes being raised is inevitable! The people are going to suffer because of who is in the seat of President of the United States. The Republicans are putting the United States in more Debt after they've spent all the money on themselves all of these years.

Phyllis Montana-Leblanc   February 25th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

OUR STATE AND THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS IS STILL NOT ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE BECAUSE OF LACK OF MONEY AND THIS REPUBLICAN PUPPET HAS THE AUDACITY TO GET ON TV AND TELL THE LIES ABOUT WHY HE IS REJECTING THE STIMULUS PACKAGE FOR THE CITIZENS OF LOUISIANA? THIS IS NOT THE BRADY BUNCH SHOW GOV. JINDAL. THIS IS THE REAL WORLD. I HOPE PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS A WAY OF GOING AROUND THIS FOOL. I PRAY HE DOES HAVE A WAY. THIS IS REALLY SCARY. I'M SO GLAD I TRUST IN GOD AND GIVE GOD ALL THE GLORY. MEN LIKE GOV. JINDAL IS HELPING TO DESTROY NOT REBUILD.

tom from philly   February 25th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

Ive said for a while that they are the party of lies trickery and cheap immitations. as far as the lies trickery and fear goes, thats how you get people to vote against their best self interest. so thats how they get the middle class vote or well some of it.

Throughout the campaign i said mccain was a cheap immitation of obama, obama wanted healtcare mccain came up with a tax break for healthcare, right down the line, then came sarah palin when the miopic republicans figured that half the dems wanted boobs in the whitehouse (love that dolly parton). Then after we elect an african american along comes steele. And with our young dark skinned american president comes jindal a young dark skinned republican, I just hope then are stupid enough to have a Palin/Jindal or Jindal/Paling ticket then they get the 35% vote they deserve. Which is ten times to high because they really only represent the top 3.5% +/-

Can you imagine that foreigh policy team the first foreign country Jindal talked to like they were 5 years old would be within their right to attack us.

Phyllis Montana-Leblanc   February 25th, 2009 9:38 pm ET

I have to honestly say that I actually thought and believed that these "parties" represented "The People." But I am mistaken. The Republican Party seems hell-bent on serving themselves, while the Democrats seem to want to make things fair in this country. This is what I'm observing and now looking back on in past events. What happened to us? What about the people? There is so much division caused by this infighting we are not helping places like New Orleans. For the first time since Katrina, we had a huge Mardi Gras this year. Huge! It seemed like the old Mardi Gras. Money coming into the city and this...gov.jindal...Today is Ash Wednesday and guess what I'm giving up? And at a time like this...A governor of Louisiana rejecting money for our state. How much plainer can it get? The Republicans don't care about the recovery of Louisiana. And they all stood on television after Katrina and said they would do everything they could. Well, Louisiana, They Lied. Now We Continue To Suffer. Great Job Guys!!!! This is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out. The only way we can recover is to not vote those in who only care about themselves, their party and Not The People. And, they actually had people on local news saying Gov. Jindal is doing a good thing by rejecting the stimulus package!! But they looked just like Gov. Jindal during his speech: "I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M SAYING THIS MYSELF." "WHAT KIND OF FOOL AM I?" AND MY FAVORITE; "DUDE, WHERE'S MY BRAIN." NO, THIS IS MY FAV, FAV: "IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN." SIGH, GUYS, I GOT NO MORE TO GIVE TO THIS TRAGEDY OF REPUBLICAN POLITICS. BUH-BY! LOUISIANA, WE'RE IN BIIIIIIIG TROUBLE. THE WHOLE WORLD'S LAUGHING AT US.

Kiki   February 26th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

I am happy to see the cool-aid crowd is alive and well. If you think bo is going to save you from this mess, think again. You are now going to pay your neighbor's mortgage along with your own because he bought a house he couldn't afford in the first place. You'll have to pay for a trillion dollar spending bill and your taxes will go up in order to keep this country afloat. We might as well all move to China......after all they own us! People can't think for themselves anymore, they stand there and believe everything a smooth-talking politician tells them. Sad!

tough one   February 26th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

You know we will never be able to move beyond race if you people keep making race an issue.

Lori   February 26th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Yea for conservatives!

Lori   February 26th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

You people are so dumb. Liberals like Nancy Pelosia stand for nothing but big spending and power. You'll wish Bush was back after Obama and Pelosi's spending spree. He has spent more in the last week than bush did in a year. Please. When you are a full fledged socialist give me a call. That is, if your crapola government allows you to have a phone. Liberals/democrats want big government and they don't give a YOUHAH if they spend your money. There goes the American dream. Thanks Liberals. What I think of you I can't say here!

Lori   February 26th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Note: Conservatism has zilch to do with your color. The only people that pull the race card is the DEMS. You people just don't get it. They play to you year after year, keep you all tied up on welfare, etc. They know they'll get your vote. Stand up for something in your life. This isn't a country of handouts. Pursue your own happiness and cut the apron strings to MAMA government. Get a REAL life!

If Michael Steele and Jindal, both black-skinned men think that the hardcore Republicans will truly accept them, they have another thing coming. These men will be used as Uncle Toms. They are tough and made it in America because they do not COMPLAIN. President Obama did not complain about his race and look how successful he is. Oh and by the way sandra, the only bigoted redneck trash in congress that was a former KKK member and now congressman Richard Byrd. and he is a Democrat.

Actually Rick, both Steele and Jindal hve been up-and-comers in the GOP for a while. They aret strong, patriotic Americans with ideas that could actually help this country. The color of their skin is, as it should be, irrelevant. Unlike the party that's in absolute control now, the GOP has never been in the business of counting heads. Love the vitriol, though.

Sharon   February 27th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

Even with the economy the way it is, this guy comes out for the Republican party acting like he's been living in a cave. When will
they get it. Read today about all the stores closing. We really are in
big trouble with the economy much more than we ever thought.

I LOVE IT! Nails in the republican coffin. 1. John McCain (still living in the 60's) 2. Sarah Palin (out of touch with any reality) 3. Bobby Jindal ( token dark skin although not black ashamed to use his real name cause it might turn off the repubs) 4. Ann Colter (skinny loudmouth waste of space) and the final BIG nail Rush Limbaugh (big fat loudmouth junkie). These people won't have a chance of getting a republican elected until 2020. I love the fact that people are finally seeing them for what they really are. They don't give a damn about America. All they care about is their standing in the party of the wealthy and keeping their money while keeping the rest of us down.

Brodie   February 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Who is Ron Paul talking about when he says he loves getting out of Washington and talking to all these "young people"? Does he mean younger than him? That's not very young at all in most cases.

I feel that when this newer generation gets older (aka my generation, I'm 22) we're going to abandon a lot more of these supposed conservative values. Especially when it comes to gay rights and more modern issues. Fresh ideas and less outdated values from the 1940's.

Maybe a forced retirement from government when you turn a certain age. That certainly happens at privatized companies. We don't need any more 70 and 80-year-olds thinking they know what modern America still wants or needs.

Pam Potter   February 27th, 2009 5:33 pm ET

Jindal and Steele are modern day house negroes. And the Republican Party wants to be viewed as doing something different? The Republican party is led by old stale chess players; using Palin to check Clinton( although she was not tapped) and now Jindal and Steele to check Obama in 2012. It is hilarious in a sad kind of way. How does such "educated" people end up as ignorant as that party is about what works and does not work in this country?

Linda Black   February 27th, 2009 9:39 pm ET

President Obama has been in office for all of 1 month and some people are urging to see changes already. I heard one man say that he didn't like anything the President had done so far. My God, people are you going to give the man a chance to do something? I have all confidence in President Obama and his cabinet, and I truly do believe that they will get our economy back on track. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was the the mess George Bush created for our nation, so tell me how are you going to push the President to make so many changes so quickly? I think he has done a superb job so far and I commend him on his efforts to implement programs to try and turn the economy around. I know that people are desperate because things are so bad right now, but we have to trust the President to do his job. And for Rush Limbaugh and Jindahl, they need to crawl back into the hole they crawled out of.

Rick,

Really Rick?! Is this best journalism you can muster? So let me ask you: What should the GOP 'Look' like? A bunch of white guys with hoods? This is the narrative that MSM likes to promote, but it's far from the truth. Do you remember the Bush administration? Who was the first Black Secretary of State, Rick? It was Colin Powell – a Republican. Who was the first Black woman Secretary of State? Who was the first Hispanic Secretary of Commerce? I'll give you a moment to Google it. All of them are minorities and all of them are Republicans. Please stop with the innuendo about Republicans and Conservatives since it only re-affirms stereotypes to the feeble minded, and start giving us news backed with facts.

Obama has nothing to say. Hes a socialist and thats that. He keeps throwing you his tv talking trash to win you fools over so he can pass this left winged Markist agenda. This is America folks. When did we ever want Socialist views. Give me a break. Bye bye America. It was nice while it lasted. Now we are the United Socialists of Free Handouts!

Lori   February 28th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Why do we keep talking about Bush? Hes gone. I thought thats why you people wanted Obama so bad, to forget. All Obama does is whine about what he inherited from Bush. Well he said he could fix it so stopping whining and fix it. I might add that Bush never whined about what he inherited from "cigar Bill".. And he did inherit crap from him.

Lori   February 28th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Just a note for you fellow Comrads – while we are fussing at each other Obama's Dems are in Washington finding new and improved ways to steal from us. Why don't we just get together, united and fuss at them. remember, we the people!?

Lori   February 28th, 2009 11:03 am ET

Hey, Sharon, Obama is not your answer. Believe me when hes done you won't have a dime! And I sure hope you don't have a small business because he'll destroy that too!

bob lenzner   February 28th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

good to see the publicity in ny times. enjoy talking with you. bank stress test assumes only 2% decline in economy this year. We;re already down 6.2% and headed lower fast. It's the consumer, stupid(not you). Theyre burned out.

tough one   February 28th, 2009 6:45 pm ET

the race of Bobby Jindal and Micheal Steele should be off limits. I cannot believe that the race of a politician is still an issue for some of you people.

tough one   February 28th, 2009 6:52 pm ET

Calling them "house negroes" and "token" you only call them those names because of their race. What a racist thing to say no matter who says it.

TERRA   March 2nd, 2009 3:22 pm ET

hey rick! seems like the republicans have lost their sincerity chip along with their parties direction. it all seems so fake and staged its so obvious!! we have never seen a face of color on or involved i anything they have tried to push forward the last eight years.. i suggest the republicans get real or they dont have a chance in this new generation.

fjs63   March 2nd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Let Rush Lead the way, He's the only one with any comman sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

amy   March 2nd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Rush was awesome. His national speech to America was uplifting. I've listened to him for years, and he has not changed his believes. And, yes he doesn't need a TELEPROMTER like BO to talk from the heart. BO is & will always be a radical, cocaine using(as he says in his book). Yep, he's no different than Rush. He just didn't get caught using cocaine.

Rhonda   March 2nd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Has these cops lost their minds her parents should get them to throw the book at them . They probablly treats their family the same they are some kinda crazy

cesar   March 2nd, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Rick, as a Republican, I can honestly tell you that I am definitely thinking about jumping ship and joining the Independent party. Steele does not reflect my views, and he flip-flops his positions. Rush is a man that spews hatred and vile comments. He wants this country to be ultra-conservative or NOT be a country at all. That is sad. We are being devided from the inside out while China gets stronger, the former Soviet Union is uniting again, and Iran is now a nuclear power that will soon help Afghanistan go nuclear as well. WHAT ARE WE DOING!!!??? Calling all TRUE-Republicans...let's re-evaluate our party!!!!!!

Charles M. Palmer, Arnold, MD   March 2nd, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Sir,
Why were there so many empty seats while Limbaugh was speaking at the Conservative Conference?

BocaBlonde   March 2nd, 2009 4:05 pm ET

I am so disgusted that some of these comments are so racially charged. Bobby Jindal and Michael Steele are in their positions and it has nothing to do with race. It has to do with their conservative values and their qualifications. Why is it that when a woman or a person of color does not want Socialism and Big Government to rule their lives, that they are considered "figure heads" or "puppets" by liberals and the media, but when they are for entitlement and a larger welfare state, they are considered "messiahs"?

Bob Welaka, Fl   March 2nd, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Wow! How can the Republican party possibly condone a person like Rush call for our elected President and his team to fail? It was not too long ago that the word 'treason' would come into play. A man with that much of a (mindless sheep) following could easily foment civl unrest on a large scale.

I continue to wait for the Republicans ...especially Rush, to propose a plan that will work as opposed to complaining.

However, it no longer amazes me that the hard line conservatives have stopped listening to the expert ..in this case the majority of the top economists in the world .... which is something that our current administration is doing. "Our minds adjust our sensations to meet our expectations" ... the motto of the Bush adminstration ..continues.

cesar   March 2nd, 2009 4:10 pm ET

Rick, you are the man! Keep telling the truth and calling it as it is! I forgot to add on my last comment that Bobby Jindal is a joke. He is not ready for primetime, neither is Palin. I am a Republican, and I admit that my party has lost it's way. We WERE the party of Lincoln, but now are classified as the party of old, white, racist, rich and well-connected. Coulter and Rush are the equivalent of the Black Panther party leaders...why are we not processing them for treason? It is a sad day in America when instead of worrying about bringing back our troops safely, the tanking economy, jailing corporate thugs, we are worrying about opposing a president whom only wants to move this Country forward. NEWSFLASH!!!! HE WON!!!! Now he gets to spend his political capital. THAT IS THE AMERICAN WAY and TRUE Democracy!!!! The winner takes it all, the loser has to let the winning party work. If it works, they stay in power, if they lose and squander their chance, WE VOTE THEM OUT!!!!! WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO COMPREHEND!!!!!!

Jenna Rohland   March 2nd, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Clearly Racist Rush and Seemingly Sambo Steele HAD only ONE THING in common and that was to defeat the likes of Obama. Now however with "Mr." Steele actually verbalizing his dilusional assumption of power (other than in title alone) he's been smacked down by Limbaugh's true feelings about anyone not of his ilk. Rush's message might go something like, "Get back to shining those Republican shoes and don't speak unless spoken to!"
Mr. Rogers, I mean Jindhal might heed that advice. He's rejected his heritage in everyway possible, but I bet he'll never be Republican enough to get through a day without further instruction as to how to lose that tan.

Andy   March 2nd, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Limbaugh hates everything and everybody who has an opinion different from his. Limbaugh's has forgotten who America's enemies are. He thinks more of Osama Bin-Laden than he does of our newly elected President. Every democrat is "Satanic" and every conservative is "Godlike" to Limbaugh, the drug addicted, doctor shopping, convicted felon. What about that part? Tell me, ditto heads, what is wrong with your "In your face' brains? It's just plain sickening to me, that these people worship Limbaugh and hate President Obama, and want our country to fail. To me, they are truly traitors and I'll stand up and fight against them anytime, anyplace. I'll shout at them louder and longer, than they shout at me. So be it! This southern conservative democrat is ready to "Lock and Load" as well against the "Limbaugh Machine". Make no damn doubt about it!

cesar   March 2nd, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Bob...from WELAKA FL...Remember NOT to generalize when talking about the Republican party. Not everyone wants Obama to fail. Not all Repubs. want Rush to voice our concerns...since he IS NOT OUR voice. Look at what I have written on my comments and tell me if I seem like the type Rush represents?? I think this nation has diverted from what is truth and fantasy and we have to get back to FUNDEMENTALS!!! Times are changing, we have to change as well. WE ARE NOT A NATION OF REPUBS. OR DEMS...WE ARE A NATION OF AMERICANS. REMEMBER OUR TROPPS...WHEN THEY ARE KILLED, DO YOU THINK WE BURY THEM AS THE FACES OF THE PARTY THEY REPRESENT OR REGISTERED AS??? NO...WE BURY AND HONOR THEM AS AMERICAN HEROES!!!!! That is what we need back home. Men and Women that are not afraid to lay their lives on the line for what is truly important, our FREEDOM!!!!

Why does the media protect rush limbaugh?   March 2nd, 2009 4:37 pm ET

I have always found it rather funny that all media protect limbaugh. The so called voice of conservatives. When that voice is a draft dodger. Those two words, stop the media in it's tracks. The media, protects him from the truth. He himself will not talk about it or ever take a phone call about it. His screeners won't allow it.
rush was not close to being drafted, that true. Yet he was given a temporary pas for what was called a football injury. Then he was given a 4F because of a pilonidal cyst. A cyst that thousand of other had and served in the military. Thousands of us also served in combat with this. Not rush. Did rush join the military and serve in a non combat roll? No , he did however sit on his cyst and play top 40 records as a disc jockey. Something he also could have done had he joined the military. Again he saw fit not to.
After his 4F he is a flag waver who will send every one else to serve...thus coward. The Republican party is in fear of rush? Well after all he is the rain maker, that is why they fear him. Will not stand up to him, MONEY. Also funny is who is one of the men ( smiling) dick cheney, another draft dodger, who has sent others to do what he would not do....Thus also a coward.
rush feeds the fire of being a coward by sending his house keeper to score his Oxy. Again rush sending other to do what he is afraid of doing....coward.
He stand in front of the money hungry party with out any fear. Only because he knows you, the media will protect him.
I call rush a coward, will debate it, only problem rush won't. He's a coward !
Come on Rick if you won't tell it like it is let someone else do it.

I am no Republican, Democrate or Indepentent. I vote whomever I think is the best. What really puzzles me is that the Republicans have had control of Congress for at least 10+ years, "Worthless" Bush put himself in the White house for 8 years and really screwed up the nation and now the Democrates have control and are really trying to clean up the Republicans mess!! I have watched 4 different sessions on CSPAN2 for the past 2 days that have covered these sessions and watched and listened to them very carefully. The Republicans all of a sudden think they know everything. If that is the case, why didn't they do all this while they were in office?? They are a real bunch of total jerks!! This Limburger jackass is the biggest bigmouth of all, He has NO idea what he is doing. He has a real BIG problem!!

Nancy   March 3rd, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Republican Party? What a joke – I'm loving every entertaining moment of it. Gosh, I remember Rush Limbaugh when he was just a so-so announcer for the KC Royals - a bit of a blowhard; but for the most part a BIG NOTHING and then he reinvented himself as the savior of the conservative Republicans and oh, baby – look at him now. He's getting a bit overworn at this point and I realize after his venting lately a marked resemblance to Adolf Hitler – gosh, Rush you've turned into one scary monster wannabe. God save us from the Rush Limbaugh's of this world – they only leave destruction in their wake! Don't know what scares me more Rushmouth or the morons who espouse his mouthings!!!

catfish   March 3rd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Rush represents those of us who want to live our own lives and accept responsibility. Liberals want a way out of there self made messes, provided by the gov.

catfish   March 3rd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Bill clinton deregulated the markets, Barney frank runs the housing committe, Christopher dodd ran the banking committe. Dodd forced the banks to give loans to people that were high risk. Those people took loans that exceeded the value of their house or loans that they could not pay. That is why we are in the mess we are. All done by dems. The american people are as much to blame as anyone.

Hope you learned your lesson!!!!!!

Governor Jindal represents the Indian work ethic. Indians strive to be number 1 when they immigrate to another nation because most come from a low caste or class in India and want to live wealthy, not revert back to a life of extreme poverty and most do not like the government taxing and redistributing their wealth once they earn it in America. Look at many IT and health care professionals and you will see a high number of well-educated, wealthy Indian-Americans, many of whom own businesses on the side such as hotels and franchises.

Rachel   March 3rd, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Hey Rick, about Rush Limbaugh, you know, I'm disappointed that you are giving him so much air....I'm the mom of 4 and teach parenting classes...a key thing to remember is that tantrums only work if they have an audiance. Quit giving him the attention! I'm all for freedom of speech but anyone who comes out and openly says they want Obama to fail is just throwing a tantrum because they want their way and don't care about anyone else. I'm a middle class midwesterner that wants to hear in 6 months my 4.0 plus gpa high school senior will be able to go to the college that will teach her how to think and help her become a successful person. She's spent the last 4 years EARNING her way to this school...(hello, $40K a year). But right now we can' help her and she doesn't qualify for federal assistance because her parents have worked their butts off and make too much money. I'm wondering why we bothered ....When Rush can give people like us hope instead of breathing fire on the flame he doesn't deserve one sec of my day.

Arvind Jadhav   March 3rd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Rick, Mr. Limbaugh and his fellow Republicans want Obama or his policies to fail. What they are really saying is that they want U.S. to fail over the next four years. Is this patriotism or partisanship?

Scott L.   March 3rd, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Rick
It is time that someone told the US Government that they do not have a clue about what they are doing. He is after the Republican party because they are weak and have no real leaders. Each member of the GOP seems to think they know what is wrong, put rather then getting to the point they just dance around the truth and never come together as team fighting for the everyday American.
Rush is fighting the Government because no one else is standing up to them and backing them down. The Government has not changed Bush or Obama, they both think they know whats best for are rights and country. They pass every possible legislation that removes or changes your constitutional rights. The Government has failed the people at every level.
Example – It use to take about a year to be evicted from your home and now it takes less then 90 days. It takes that long just to get State Aid started.
The Government has stopped protecting the tax payers from the Government and worse Corporate America.

Why should our TAX Money go to bail-out any company that used the Government to change legislation so they can scam billions of dollars from the people, through credit card and Mortgages? Every Politician is at fault. Name one Bank that will work with you unless you really push them into a corner? They have every law protecting them.

More Power to Rush Limbaugh – He is fighting for the everyday person.

catfish   March 3rd, 2009 4:06 pm ET

kay schettini   March 3rd, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Rush Limbaugh is the worst representative for the Republican party.

And why are they not admitting that it's also the war in Iraq that made us so broke?

Marilyn   March 3rd, 2009 4:09 pm ET

I can not believe the republican party thinks the color of President Obama's skin had a damned thing to do with his being elected. BHO is brilliant and is so well prepared to lead this nation out of this dark cave we've been left in by empty headed republicans. People don't forget, Rick. Nothing anyone can do or say takes away the fact the GOP has brought us to this cliff and we are just about to plunge over the side.
These two naive men of color are being thrown to the howling wolves by their own party. I am furious that Mr. Steele relented and appologized to such a bag of pus as rush limbaugh. There is no living human being who is more vile than limbaugh. None.

Chuck   March 3rd, 2009 4:09 pm ET

We need to back Bill Maher and start putting some pressure on Rush. It's getting out of hand, and only the complete blind are not able to see that Rush is nothing but hate.

The money for the war is budgetet seperately. It's not part of the deficit

Bill   March 3rd, 2009 8:34 pm ET

Doesn't anyone get – it? Limbaugh has just re-negotiated a contract for 38 Million per year through 2018. Read that again ....38 MILLION PER YEAR SALARY – EVERY YEAR – plus time off for working so hard, No wonder that fool can say what he wants. I think there should be a 4th party – the Limbaugh Party and Boss Limbaugh can run it. He can put up Bobby Jindal as their leading politician. With 38 million dollars a year for the next 9 years, he should be able to fund the whole party. Surely all of his "Loyal" listeners will step up to he plate and contribute all the money the have. Put it on a Credit Card.

Yep – that's the answer to the issues today – The Limbaugh Party. He can have his own little kingdom until he gets caught taking hydrocodone again. You don't think that's over. I'm an expert in that field and the crave – never – goes away.

Lori   March 4th, 2009 9:59 am ET

Hey, Janette in TX – do you think maybe you have some kind of prejudice yourself? REad your comment!

Matt Lord   March 4th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

The Republican party better hurry up and find a leader. People like Rush will only serve to alienate more moderate Reps like myself. When I look at the Rep party today I see a bunch of out of step old fogies trying not to look racist by throwing as many minorities in front of the American people to prove that they (Reps) are not racist. What this really proves is how out of touch the Republican party is. Today in America the person or party with the best agenda and with a leader who can present that agenda can win the White House no matter of race, religion or sex, didn't Obama just prove that?? Wake up GOP!! It's time for the GOP to stop the hate mongering and get with the program and help the current govt to solve the problems we face today.

I'll bet if you look around that there are judges in EVERY nook and cranny that are doing this.

It's maddening, really. And this doesn't only affect the prisoner. How about the families going on welfare because of a loss of yet another parent?

How about the lawyers getting fatter to defend a person who's doomed to prison behind the scenes. Payoffs for all except the people who could have learned a lesson just by the fear of the arrest alone.

This country is insane.

By the way, what ever happened to the Dick Cheney story. He's submersed in making money from a privatized prison. What happened to that? I suppose he'll get by with this?

Everyone outside of politicians should be paraniod at all times.

Wow....your last commentary on kids, jails, etc. (3:45pm ET, 3/4/09) hit me straight up because it is so true and felt by many people that I know. Your commentary was so well stated, thank you! I have a 5 year old girl and notice the same thing about the energy to criminalize children versus celebrating them and showering them with the graces that we 45+ adults experienced. We need more mentorship that "paces" our youth so they don't have to feel they have to keep up with the want & greed that the adults they observe display.....or maybe the adults of many of these kids need some mentorship. I was just laid off from my employer and have enjoyed your show, and shows like yours during the day (where I would normally be working). Keep on Rick...your energies represent the rest of us~

rush limbaugh is an acknowledged drug addict...the fact that people follow this guy is amazing...blame the dems blame the media on everything. has he ever debated anyone on his ideas or his blantantly flambouant utterings....to think during the time that the"bush" was in office, for one to blurt out loud that he or she wish ed that he would fail on his policies etc one might have found out quickly that they would have been blasted as unpatriotic and treasonous and one probably would have had a cia agent at their door soon thereafter....

I dont feel that President Bush will ever be held accountable for what they did illegal because the gov is so corrupt that anybody that has the authority to do so all have skeltons in thier closets and are worried about who will get even with them, they are just going to put on a good show, I am so impressed with President Obama because of what he says, he's trying to do the right thing and those GREEDY self center Republicans are not concerned for the world as a whole but just thier selves and thier corrupt friends, if Obama makes mistakes its because of the so called experts around him that are giving him advise.

milmnsr   March 4th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Dominick Ferranti   March 4th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Rick, It's incredible that this country is still standing as a democracy or am I speaking too soon? Look what we've done to ourselves, people being paid to inprison for the profit of it and not for the common good of society. I can't even workup the enthusiasm to suggest a better way, it seems as though that is our freedom of speech, to complain and suggest...like lemmings the direction we should all follow to correct the problems we have...like it means something, well it doesn't. You know I thought Obama could change our direction but it is not possible to do so, they surpress any attempt to move forward, I use to think it was some organized subvurgion of our way of life, but it is apparent that we arn't capable of anything organized.

milmnsr   March 4th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

how dare limbaugh disrespect our president with such indignation as to solicite him to a debate on his show. did the W allow debate on any of his opposing views by any persons in the democratic party opposing his policies? absolutely not! debates were for the pre election. Now that he is president, he does not owe the master ditto head himself anything but a seat, er i mean maybe two seats, in the press box to ask questions ...will somebody let this guy and his followers know that the election is over ! someone please tell him and his audience to get over it like the dems did when we lost and help his this presidents policies succeed!!!

milmnsr   March 4th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

how dare the republican party try to act like they are an inclusive party by fronting the few of the mnorities that they have in their party on the front stage. next will be a hispanic and a woman frontpersons. take away the strings on their pivot points and mike steele and jindal would collapse puppet pile of wood....

Truth Commission? As an American citizen, I would like to know if the constitution was subverted by the Bush administration? If so -those responsible should be prosecuted within the limits of the laws they subverted. Criminals should be held accountable for their actions and not granted immunity by the political party in office at the time. Is there a double standard for the application of our laws?

rockman   March 5th, 2009 10:30 am ET

OBAMA COULD NOT DEBATE WITH LIMBAUGH. HE WOULD LOSE AND YOU KNOW IT. LIBERALS ARE THE TRUE LEMMINGS. NAIVE IN THINKING THAT A BLACK COMMUNITY ORGANIZER WILL SAVE THE WORLD. IF RUSH LIMBAUGH IS WRONG WHY DO YOU KEEP BRINGING HIM UP? HE IS RIGHT AND FOR LIBERALS TO FOLLOW THE FALSE MESSIAH WILL ONLY PROVE HIS POINT. REPUBLICANS WILL STICK TO THEIR PRINCIPLES BUT FOOLISH AND NAIVE LIBERALS HAVE NONE. JUST BECAUSE THE MAJORITY VOTED FOR OBAMA WILL NOT STOP JUDGEMENT ON AMERICA. RUSSIA IS COMING TO FIGHT; WHO WILL STOP THEM? SPINELESS LIBERALS? THE LIBERAL MIND WILL BE ALTERED WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!

This Tea Party stuff for tax day is BULL CRAP. People today have representation while being taxed. Hello? Once again this sounds like the old echos of FLAT TAX and they don't like the change at the top. Mind you that we never liked the change to being laid off at the bottom while certain ones at the top found it more important to own a BIG boat at the sweat of others or those that lower a persons credit card limit so that they can pay out BUCKS for a fancy stadium name. THINK ABOUT IT.

jpinsatx   April 17th, 2009 8:02 pm ET

The Republican party is... out of touch!

President Obama was elected by Independents, Reagan Democrats, Blue Dog Democrats, Republican in Name Only, Libertarians, etc. From my "Independent" perspective... the GOP stands for 1) De-Regulation of Business and 2) Regulation of Morality. The De-Regulation of Business removed consumer protections, rewarded job outsourcing and caused the economic collapse. Allowing Evangelical Christians to set the social agenda caused the "Separation of Church and State" divide over: school prayer, sex education, AIDS prevention, abortion rights, gay marriage, etc. Today the DEMS stand for working class jobs and common sense. Who knows, next election may be the opposite!

Click through the pages here to see clips and interviews from Rick's newscast. There's plenty of pictures of Rick on the CNN set and behind the scenes with his production team. And you know those moments when Rick speaks his mind? His "interstitials"? We've collected them, too.

Rick Sanchez, weekdays from 3:00 to 4:00 PM ET.

Now let's hear from you!

Open & Standing

These people have all been asked to come on Rick's newscast and talk to him live. In person, on the phone, by morse code, WE DON'T CARE! They've all either declined our invitation or simply chosen to not respond.

C'mon...what are you afraid of? We'd love to scratch your name off this list!
