The governor and her daughter: Should we be paying attention? (Getty Images)

This show steered clear of Bristol Palin's pregnancy. We just didn't think it was relevant.

In fact, generally speaking, media outlets in print and broadcast, with the exception of several blogs, stayed away from the issue.

Why?

Well, for the same reason we chose to not show you Rihanna's beat-up face last week. Some things, even in a public person's life, are still private.

So along comes Fox News and what do they do? They interview Bristol Palin, who tells them this:

"But I think abstinence is, like, the, I don’t know how to put it, like, the main, everyone should be abstinent or whatever, but it’s not realistic at all." - Bristol Palin

Governer Palin is expected to ride the evangelical wave of support into political viability in 2012.

One problem: evangelical groups saw the interview with Palin's daughter and are not amused. Here's what one pro-abstinence group said:

"While Bristol's story makes for an interesting human-interest story, her comment should not be the basis to form public policy." - National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA)

The real irony here? The governor who asked the media to stay away from her kids, has her daughter do an interview with FOX News and ends up getting heat about her daughter's comments.

Not from the left…but from her own base.

What do you think?

Another fine example of the foolishness that is the character of Sarah Palin. Her political aspriations outside of the microcosm of Alaska are already flimsy and thats an overstatement. But to allow her daughter to go to the conservative safe haven of Fox News and fumble the ball is just classic!!

Connie in Calgary   February 23rd, 2009 4:56 pm ET

Enough already!!

What about Palin's x-border record with neighbours – Canada as well as Russia ? Or will Rush Limbaugh now start a conversation on Palin's geography-retention? As well as ruminating on the mainstream 'discussion' of Christian value__s. ? And the horror of...."asking Republicans to spend (more?) money?"

Well Rush this....If Alberta goes forward with clean development of the northern AB reserves, that should reduce the apparent need to develop reserves in protected Alaskan lands. Does Sarah even know where Fort MacMurray is? Or does she think that's where "MY 3 Sons" was filmed?

Joseph Maine   February 23rd, 2009 5:18 pm ET

Observe what I have ascertained about the process of checking any candidate for qualifying to run for President under the Constitution of the United States, and the facts of the case regarding Barack Obama and his refusal to show ANY record (school, college, health), let alone his real birth certificate:

After citizens have been following up with congressmen about the issue, no one can tell them who checks out candidates. Why? I don't think anyone does. If it's the FEC, why don't we know anything about who/what/when/where they did it, why isn't there transparency? Everyone just assumes someone checks something, but no one knows. It seems this is something very important for no one to know about especially congressmen. In fact, a citizen wrote the Libertarian Party and asked them if anyone checked Bob Barr. They said they didn't have to check because they knew he was a citizen; no one checked from any given federal entity or commission, they said.

The reason why this is not a situation of conspiracy is because Obama has hidden himself by legalisms and no one has checked. Why? Private citizens would have to and no one can get it due to said legalisms (shame on our judges and lawyers, since it is a Constitutional provision). This is the first time anyone has even run for President who did not have 2 parents who were American born. There has been no reason up to this point to have something established to check it. It's laziness, lack of identification, and indifference. Typical governmental foolishness.

If not for this statute, Hawaii's 338, there would not be as suspicious of a case. Observe the smoking gun:

(edited)

And he won't show his birth certificate (long version, vault version). Why? As the above statue states, you can clearly have an original and NOT BE BORN IN HAWAII.

On October 31, 2008, here is what Dr. Fukino said, and I quote, in a .pdf distributed by the state of Hawaii: "the Hawai'i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama's original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures." (my emphasis added)

Why did he not say, "I have seen the vault copy and it clearly states that BO was born in Hawaii, in the USA."

How easy would that have been to say? Very.

The main point is, what does Obama have to hide? He has spent up to 1 million to make sure no one sees this original birth certificate, hiring 3 law firms. No one can give one good reason why he shouldn't show it. McCain showed his. Bush showed his college records. Why won't Obama release ANYthing???

This is not conspiracy, this is legit. Once again, our politicians have let us down. If it turns out that he is born here, great, now we actually have a legit method to check for this measure with future candidates. But, if he is born here, why not show the BC???

It is very possible that a Constitutional Law professor pulled, ironically, one of the biggest fraud or hoax schemes in American history. Why is it that unlikely that no one checked him? The FBI admits that they don't and NO ONE can tell us who checks candidates. No one. I challenge you to find out who this commission is. No one knows.

The Senate held an inquiry establishing McCain's legitimate birth basis (in Panama on a US Military base). At that time, they could have investigated the sketchy details of President Obama's birth, but didn't. Why? Birth Certificate sealed, Occidental records sealed, Columbia sealed, Harvard sealed, health records SEALED.

Isn't it odd that an administration about change, hope and transparency/honesty will not release ANYthing? Just show something and the "conspiracy theorists" will walk away. But he won't show, and it's for a reason. He wasn't born here. And his college records indicate such. Take it to the bank.

The entirety of what I have written is based on facts and real documents that you can verify. The only person who won't allow you to verify anything is the President. Are you telling me that it is too private to see a document that is required by the Constitution for candidacy, that gives us your birth weight, length, parents, Medical Center, Obstetrician, etc.? That's private?

The only possible explanation is that there is something the "President" doesn't want us to know. So much for "hope" and "change". Whatever it is, even if it's not the birth issue, it means he is a liar and a fraud. The truth will come out. But Mr. Obama will not step into the light for fear of a great many things.

bdaman   February 23rd, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Rick, didn't see where else to post this so I figured I would post it here. The segment on Sen. Shelby was good, however if your gonna cover the bases you should cover all of them and not just stop and second base. I know you are aware of what is going on in the blogs. The fact is the president has sold us on the concept he will have the most transparent administration but yet when it comes to him there is nothing but secrecy. There have been over 50 lawsuits attempting to get the president to unseal his records. I'm sure you've seen the Alan Keyes rant. What Mr. Keyes did not say is he is a plantiff in a case being brought by the United States Justice Foundation. This suit/subpeona is to get the addmission papers for the president fron Occidental College. Again the president fights this. What is the harm in telling Hawaii to release the ORIGINAL birth certificate and not the one he posted online thru the Annenberg Factcheck.org in which he and Ayers were on the board. Why can't we see his college records. Is this transparency. No it's not. Are his records a matter of national security? No there not but soon could be because of the military members that will soon file suit. If you would like to have a discussion about what I know, you have my e-mail address.

"The Apple and The Tree." The Apple and The Tree." Well, at least now we know how Bristol became pregnant...Doh!

Clarence   February 23rd, 2009 5:54 pm ET

Thanks for being on for only an hour, Rick. Couldn't take much more of you in the course of a day. Hey, forget Bristol. How about doing a segment on what's happening with Condi Rice these days? She's disappeared into thin air.

Connie in Calgary   February 23rd, 2009 5:57 pm ET

Rick:

To background my earlier comment: Canada's PM Harper was in NY today and there's been almost no American media attention to the visit, or attention on x-border and resource markets. Instead, very recently there's been a huge disproportionate attention to Republican personalities and their "values" – personal and economic.

Well, that's incredibly costly politics at the expense of their voting public, and their international political allies.

I dont buy the Republican's politically motivated media campaign, and I think that it's next going to play directly into the rightwing media's agenda. Celebrity personalities like Rush Limbaugh will start reworking the mainstream media's comments on their rightwing "values" while the value of "the market" itself plummets.

Donna   February 23rd, 2009 6:07 pm ET

Another example of "Media Malpractice" – Rick Sanchez says Sarah Palin "GOT her daughter" to do the Greta interview – check the facts! Rick makes it sound like Sarah Palin put her daughter up to it for whatever (political) reasons -

Delores   February 23rd, 2009 6:07 pm ET

What makes this even more interesting is that, according to Greta Van Susteren, Bristol set up the interview and didn't even let her mother know about it until the day before. When the Governor interrupted the interview to drop of the baby, you could see how anxious she was about what Bristol might say on her own. So, the Gov filled up five minutes or more with her own blatherings. So much for freedom of speech in the Palin household!

bdaman   February 23rd, 2009 6:15 pm ET

Joseph, thank you for your post below. He has had the chance to rid the blogs of this. Just today Col. Riley former division chief national security agency and Scott R. Easterling1LT OD/LG United States Army
signed petitions to be plantiffs this follows Colonel Gregory S. Hollister and Brigadier General Charles Jones.

Mr. Sanchez as a Cuban American who's mother was one of the last to escape before Castro's take over and as a nephew to an uncle who landed here with his family in 1971 with just their cloths on their backs, I ask you Mr. Sanchez do not regard this as conspiracy theorist, tin foil hatters or people on the lunatic fringe just because you were able to go online and print a copy of a birth certificate with very little information. How Ironic that we have been led to believe not to trust stories on the internet but then accept something as proof that comes from it.

Mr. Sanchez please follow up on this and lets get this settled so we can move on. It is no coincidence that over twenty states have introduced bills for seperation from some of the federal government policies with two of those states metionning conditions under martial law.

Mr. Sanchez, WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA deserve to know the backround and to see the records of the president of the soon divided states.

The hyperlink was edited from my previous post. I highly recommend everyone going to check the link out. It is available on the web. Do a search and it will be easy to find, Hawaii statute 338. I'm not sure why the link was edited, but if it is a policy of CNN not to post links, then please take the 1 minute to search and read the statute. It alone shows that any inquiry about his birth is beyond a reasonable doubt. Lawyers are hiding everything in this case.

Thank you for taking the time. I was as skeptical as anyone prior to researching this case. The way the President is acting is nothing less than shady. There's only one explanation. If anyone can give me ONE good reason why he shouldn't show his birth certificate, I'd love to see it in a post following this one. Thank you.

I think Bristol Palin is right. about it being unrealistic. A lot of good kids plan to wait but sometimes your raging hormones get the best of you and when your plan is just not to do it then your unprepared with birth control when you break down and and have unplanned sex. I voted for Sara Palin and plan to vote for her in four year if she runs. Marsha age 43 in East Tn.

Dem Mom   February 23rd, 2009 7:00 pm ET

I thought this post was about Bristol Palin's comment not Obama's birth certificate. anyway, I am NOT a sara palin fan. I applaud Bristol voicing her own opinion. She did not throw abstenice out the window. she clearly said it was best b u t - Sounds very mature and responsible. Loves her new baby but recommends 10 years and preparation. More in touch with reality then a lot of adults. Most kids have different opinions than their parents - thats the way it should bem esp at this age.

Bristol was either nervous, or didn't know what abstinence is..

I am asking a question! Wall street wants the money with no strings attached. As long as they don't get it they will hold us hostage! The banks want the money without no strings attached! They will hold us hostage! Everyone seems to want billions and trillions without no strings attached. It is like we are held hostage by the banks and wallstreet. Can we not say the truth? I am getting robbed by my neighbor for my ignorance of my 2nd ammendment rights. I am being robbed by neighbor for my ignorance of my self preservation rights! I am also being robbed by my ignorance of my bypartisan rights. As a people we are being robbed at every turn! We no longer have freedom! Voice and yet other wise! What are we going to do when the poor and underclass get tired of this? These things will effect our economy! Things are only going to get worse. What are we going to do when people, I mean that 20% or that 20 million start rioting in our cities, and crime takes an expected effect. These are not my predictions these are the top ecomomist predictions. What will all these congressmen, senators, representitives, and our own president do? I am terrified! Ya'll better figure out something soon!

IF I WAS SARAH PALIN OR HER DAUGHTER I WOULDNT APPEAR ON CNN EITHER. WHY WOULD SHE EXPOSE HER DAUGHTER TO YOUR BULLS***? AT LEAST FOX IS HONEST AND DOESNT TWIST THE TRUTH LIKE YOU A**HOLES! THE IGNORANCE AND INTOLERANCE OF THE LIBERAL MEDIA IS BECOMING OBVIOUS. PEOPLE THAT DONT LIKE A PERSON LIKE SARAH PALIN BUT CHOSE TO VOTE OBAMA ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF MORALITY.

debwilldo   February 24th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Sarah Palin is a perfect example of the hypocrisy of the Republican party.
They never live up to the moral standards that they "dictate" to the rest of the world, while setting themselves up as the example of "high moral standards".
Caribou Barbie preached fiscal discipline while spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on designer wear (of which she has yet to return), and billing the citizens of Alaska for every trip that she,and her large family takes ( the billing based on lies!).
She preaches abstinence as the only sex ed training, while so busy making a name for herself in the political arena, that she neglected to see what was happening in her own home.
The republicans have only become concerned with "fiscal responsibility" after 8 years of spending orgies by the "party of exclusion", and only when these criminals lost power, did they suddenly become the "responsible fiscal police"!
Could it be that this party of obstruction and division are attempting to divide this country by region, since, thanks to this party of "NOthing" the only classes that will remain are the very rich...and the very poor?
Republicans don't insist on morals when it's one of their own. Their higher standard applies only to other people.

XeneC   February 24th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

I applaud Bristol Palin for being honest but wouldn't it be a lot better if she said that on a real network as opposed to FOX?.
As an aside, the more these liars called "conservatives" open their mouths, *(The latest being Michelle Bachman), the they more we understand why they are in such a sorry state right now. They are generally narrow minded, backwardly ignorant by choice, lack proper analytical skills and always seem to define issues from a very limited understanding
Anyone noticed that recently, they are starting to analyse current events exactly as picked up from their radio shows?. Virtually all the stuff they say about the stimulus are statements passed down from the REAL chairman of their sinking party on his radio show.

Rob Joyce   February 24th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Bristol is absolutely right.

Abstinence is not realistic.

Ask my parents......well, they aren't alive anymore, but they knew abstinence is not realistic, and that was in 1937! But they did the right thing and married.

We are going to have a slew of newborns later this year if today's parents are not being realistic. I just hope they can afford them, because I sure can't afford to raise their kids!

Rick -

With regard to your discussion about President Obama and Senator Shelby – while I think there are some less than clear answers on this issue, I think President Obama is rightfully titled to hold the office, if for no other reason than the his mother's undisputed origin of birth.

What surprised me in your comments yesterday was the assertion that this was a major (I think that was your word) issue that you implied was focus of many hours of airtime on CNN. Really? I don't watch CNN 24/7 but I would be very surprised if this story garnered as musch discussion by your network as say Sarah Palin's wardrobe or Bristol's pregnency or who the real mother was of Governor Palin's child or even the hacking of your Twitter account. And at the end of the day which of these stories (Obama's eligibility or Palin's personal issues, I'll give you a pass on the Twitter hacking) really should have warrented the hard hitting investigation that seemed to be lacking by news organizations, such as CNN, this past election year.

Maybe I am mistaken about my perception about the amount of time spent on this issue. I would happy to have my perception corrected.

Hey, let's give Bristol her due. At least SHE had the courage to speak her mind, no matter what mommie says she should say. I saw this interview and Bristol shot her mother a look that to me was totally contemptuous. No love lost there! I suspect that Bristol had little say as to her personal reproductive rights and Palin put her political aspirations ahead of her daughter's wants and needs. That look said it all. I don't think we've heard the last on this one. BTW, when IS that wedding supposed to take place and where is Mr. Bristol??? Eh??

KikiBeard   February 24th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Jacqueline   February 24th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

I know a lot of Evangelicals that are unmarried teenage moms. In fact, most of the teenage moms that I know come from an Evangelical background. Maybe because they are so prudish they don't discus sex with their kids, and if they do, they probably just preach abstinence and leave out the importance of birth control. Girls, babies are one thing a positive thing if you have the means to take care of them, But you need to make boys wear protection, because HIV, AIDS, and other STD's are deadly. Even if he tells you, you are the first, remember boys will say almost anything to get you in bed. Just be smart and look out for yourself.

Joe   February 24th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Wait! let me get this straight. We have an attorney general who says we need to open up and talk about race more openly, then when a cartoonist expresses his opinion about the stimulous package (which I didn't see as racist, but then I don't consider my black friends as looking like or being related to monkeys either)many in the community want him and the editor of the paper fired? So much for wanting people to express themselves on race or their opinions on government actions of stupidity. Rev. (hahahoho)Al Sharpton should read the bible from time to time, he'd learn alot. Eccl. 7:9 Al Sharpton is always at the front of the crowd who takes offense at whatever they can find to be offended at in everyday life, and they always try to make it a racial issue. I grew up in a mixed neighborhood, my nextdoor neighbors were black americans, and great people. Most of the black americans I have known all my life think Al Sharpton is a biggot, with good reason. He is ! I can talk to anyone about race and ethnicity, because to me that is not what makes a person who they are. I do not tolerate troublemakers within the community, Al Sharpton is a troublemaker who strives to bring up the past wrongs against blacks and keep it in the forefront of all americans. Truth be told Al, the United States government took much stronger action against native americans than it ever did against blacks, going in and wiping out entire settlements of them. But you don't hear nearly the outcry about the past treatment of indians. The natives have moved on with life. It's time for the angered blacks to accept the freedom Abe Lincoln afforded them along with the U.S. government, and move on with life.

A large number of the Iraqi police and military that we have trained HATE US and would have zero problems killing Americans. I am in the Military, have served my time there, and know that there is no love lost for us in Iraq! Put yourself in their shoes, we have destroyed their country and , killed many of their country-men. We can try and spin it as much as we want but their country is in ruins thanks to us. The Iraqi's do not trust each other and they trust us less!

I wish abstainance only education for 18 and below, were a viable reality, but even for home school children who are very supervised at home and socialy, sexual activity is a reality. I was happy to see Bristol share her comment abstance only, education isnt realistic. Glad Levi decided not to take a cut ahead of workers who have been waiting for employeement and apprenticeships. who have their diplomas, thats grown up responsibly, The two young adults Levi and Bristol , and their child will get through life in spite of the baggage of disappointing parents and poor choices, and I am glad these young adults are trying to do what is right, knowing American is looking to them not to take short cuts and the easy ways out. So far thats what I notice. ( they are declineing alot of the attention and shortcuts celebrity could bring taking just enough to move on respossibly)... I love the Palin family, but no so much Republican politics :) I also did not expect Levi and Bristol to stand on their own with the media and parents as much as they have done so far. everyone expects them to take the outrageous huge breaks being a govenors son in law and daughter. I hope they just keep on doing the right thing, in the right order, and struggle along with all of American teenager's rich and poor.

Sunday Michelle Weiss   February 24th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

If I could make one comment to Sarah Palin myself, it would be that if she feel's threatened when papparatzi and aggressive reporters stalk her family, I wish she could try to imagine how the wolf family's feel being hunted and killed from planes being shot at with bullets instead of film from above when they have no where to hide and no cover.

I try not to be harsh when it comes to judgeing others, but some stuff people condone is just plain wrong,... and you gotta ask you self what the heck are they thinking.

The Constitution doesn't "feel" anything. You shouldn't either. Either Obama is qualified under it, or he is not.

He won't show his real BC because of the latter. End of story.

This should be an outrage. It is NOT about politics whatsoever. It's about another crooked politician that people are willing to put up with. So sad.

Joseph –

Thanks for your comments. Fair point about my use of the word “feel” perhaps I should have said “believe”. The problem is I think the issue is not clear, though I suspect it would be decided in Obama’s favor.

The original United States Naturalization Law of March 26, 1790 (1 Stat. 103) provided the first rules to be followed by the United States in the granting of national citizenship. The Act also established the United States citizenship of children of citizens, born abroad, without the need for naturalization, "the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens".
As you may know Governor George Romney (Mitt’s Dad) who ran in the 1968 primaries was born in Mexico, while his parents were on a LDS mission. In 1964 the GOP nominee Barry Goldwater ran for President, he was born in Arizona when it was a territory, not a state. In both these cases it was generally agreed (though not litigated) that they would be eligible to assume the office.

My bigger issue was Rick’s response to the story and the implication (which I believe was false) that this was a major issue fully vetted by the major news outlets. Rick would should follow the same advice he so freely gave Senator Shelby, read about the issue and know the facts before reporting on it.

I agree with you that there should be openness and transparency on this issue and have it decided once and for all. Obama was cautious enough to retake the oath, let’s get this issue clarified.

Jymm   February 25th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

Joseph -

Looks like I shouldn't have been so quick to for using the word "feel" – because on reading my origina post, I never used the ter!

Regardless, my point and my beliefs about this issue stand as expressed in my two earlier posts.

It would be nice to get Rick's take on this as he reflects on the issue (assuming he even bothers to consider the discussion).

Ya know we subscribe to the ideals of moses, but he too was an overly religious freak trying to impose his conservative views on the masses, that risisted, 5000 years is enough it aint gonna work. Remember when he slammed down and broke the 10 commandment and probably said God ***((*&it when it did it????

It didnt work then it wont work now, ideals are good but reality is what we have to deal with. I wish drugs had never been discoverd, there were no hunger, everyone had a job, hard work paid, investments paid off, there were no teen pregnancy, no such thing as HIV or other diseases existed, get the idea? but thats not the case, how is it these conservatives wont fund birth control but after the baby is born begrudge the assistance we have as a society decided to provide to single mothers. So the sanctity of life ends at birth? thats worse than the catholic priests at least little boys ar considered precious till they are 8 THEN the definition of precious changes as they abuse them sexually, but at least they get 8 good years instead of just time to gestate.. Let the poor have the birth control, on the government, why is this such a crazy concept? Oh wait i know why the republicans have to bite this obvious contradiction to depend on the what 5% of the vote than comes from fundamentalist christians or they would never have been in power.

Joseph Maine   February 26th, 2009 11:58 am ET

Jymm,

Thanks for the message.

The problem with the Obama situation is that his mother was not eligible to transfer natural born status to him, because she did not live in the US for 5 years (she would have had to have been 19 not 18 when he was born). So accordingly to the law at the time, he would not be naturally born EVEN with some random interpretation of the existing laws and Constitution.

What makes his situation different, again, is that he did not even have 2 American Parents! So automatically it is shady ... and he STILL didn't meet the requirement, as pointed out above.

For the record, I would not be for Mitt Romney being eligible if what you say is true about his being born in Mexico.

If we don't like the Constitution, let's amend it, with the proper and due respect. We can't change the law at our own liking, or we might as well throw the whole thing away.

Joseph Maine   February 26th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

Jymm, you also forgot (conveniently, apparently) to mention:

<>

Our forefathers got it right even after a misstep. The person has to be born in the United States. Period.

Think about it. Right now, how terrible is it that someone born here by flying in for birth, but raised his entire life in another country, can become US President (by eligibility)? The whole point is that you are to be one of US, to understand what it means and identify by association and culture to be American - and of course not be a saboteur, which is what they were worried about. We should always defend it because these are ALL good reasons.

Joseph Maine   February 26th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

However, the Naturalization Act of 1795 repealed the Act of 1790 and removed the language explicitly stating that the children of US citizens are natural-born citizens. As such, it is inconclusive whether Romney was eligible for the office of President.

(was supposed to be within the arrows above)

sportygal85   February 26th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Abstinence being taught only is foolish, because kids a.) want to have sex and b.) disobey their parents because they feel their parents don't take them seriously and want to prove they can handle adult issues themselves or don't think that the consequences their parents warn them about apply to them. and c.) defy as much of the rules as they can because they want to.

Children who are taught abstinence only are more likely to get pregnant or contract diseases because they aren't taught any other prevention methods. They are more likely not to use any protection because they don't know about it. Children aren't saints, and parents need to stop kidding themselves that "their child would never" have sex before marriage. Please. I think to be affective both methods should be taught, and not left up to the parents only (some parents don't know themselves the protection methods other than abstinence) so teachers and other higher ups need to take that on as well.

Bristol Palin is confused because she doesn't want to violate her mother's beliefs on national tv, but we can tell that Bristol to some extent doesn't believe in abstinence only. Apparently Bristol wanted the interview and her mom didn't find out until the day before. And of course she would want it on Fox News, it's a Republican station. And we all know Fox News is a joke for those of us who know not to listen to such B.S.

jpw   February 26th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

You are an idiot. You need to to your homework. Obama just signed a $trillion bill and there is a language in the bill for a train from Vegas to LA. Do your homework. You liberal jerk

Joseph, Connecticut   February 26th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

Hey, you can't blame Bristol, the kids have to do something fun during the long dark winters. Just don't get pregnant.

Cousin Art   February 27th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

Rick, I don't know that you're actually reading your e-mails, but I've only been here a couple of weeks and all I see is enough vitriol to make this a "hate site". Don't you have a webmaster that can clean up your posting boards? I've always believed that liberalism as is currently demostrated is a mental disease; your viewers here confirm my diagnosis.

Kevin from Phillips, Wi.   February 27th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

See what happens when you have ethics and Fox don't?

Brodie   February 27th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

As much as I'd like Palin and her entire clan to go away, Bristol is completely right. Teaching abstinence-only sex education is unrealistic. It actually makes these kids worse off when they do decide to have intercourse, because they're not educated at all on safe-sex practices.

cdchicago   February 28th, 2009 9:09 am ET

We should pay little additional attention to Sarah Palin on the national scene. More curiosity then significant or important player, she is a much a "conversation piece" as a pet rock or "capri pants". fashionably passe'. Let it go. You are just annoying your viewers. Unless she opts for "Dancing with the (near) Stars", let her follow the former Ms. McCartney.
Unless one of her Alaskan volcanoes erupts, let her go govern Alaska.

However, Bristol Palin is significant. She is representative of an emerging generation. Not brilliant. Not political. But she is to some extent significant. Her mom should only be mentioned in the light of how she affects Bristol and her charges in life (Child, continuing education, impending marriage or near miss, choice of professions or other associated life choices, etc. Her last significant interview was intriguing. More so, her mothers intervention in to that interview, a rare and unusual occurrence. I smell a story there; but from the Bristol angle.

William Rydzewski   February 28th, 2009 10:22 am ET

the evangelical right want to do, as they have always done. Hide everything and keep their followers naive to the truth and the facts.
They are dealing with teens with raging hormones and expect them to follow a no sex rule. They should get a real life and under stand real life.

Lori   February 28th, 2009 10:40 am ET

HEY, ROB JOYCE. AT LEAST YOU HAVE A LIFE. YOU WEREN'T AN ABORTED HUMAN! EVER COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. MORON!

Lori   February 28th, 2009 10:41 am ET

America, you need to wake up cause your pal Obama is taking us in a bad direction. Blind Americans. That is what you are.

Lori   February 28th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Oh, Joesph in Conn. That's good. Real good. Do you have teenagers? How about a teenage girl? Now do you want to make the same comment?

Lori   February 28th, 2009 10:45 am ET

You people might want to focus on sexism for awhile. The race thing is starting to get musty. Threw Hillary under the bus those good ol boys. And talking about ripping a woman. Palin. What did she ever do to deserve that. Woman of America wake up! Stop killing your babies and rise up.

Stand for something.

Lorrie   March 1st, 2009 9:52 pm ET

Lori – from your comments, it is really obvious that you are emotionally unbalanced – please seek help for good of every one including those not born yet. Really, please seek help.
Joseph Maine – it has been a long time that is not faishonable to be a nazzi or a klansman!!!

Bob Welaka, Fl   March 2nd, 2009 3:50 pm ET

When are the adults (politicians and clergy alike) who are making the rules, finally going to listen to the youth for whom they are making the rules? Any chance the Palin will listen to her daughter?

Having listened to my middleschool teacher spouse for many years, the prospects of abstinence for these kids is nil. The best we can hope for is educating them about the biology, social responsibilities and pregnancy prevention options.

Even that is an uphill battle given that we immerse them (ourselves) in 'sex' (TV, magazines, internet ,etc) all day and night, and provide positive press on all sorts of bad role models.

towbs   March 2nd, 2009 4:05 pm ET

I read in the Parade that the father of Bristol's baby got fired from a job because he lied about having a HS diploma. I don't know if Bristol is employed but if neither parents are working, how are they going to support this child they have brought into this world? Will they have to go on welfare?

KARL SEEMANN   March 2nd, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Regarding the girl who got beaten in the holding cell in Seattle.

Tell the people the whole truth! She was a car thief. Today judges slap a thief on the wrist and let them go back to stealing cars.

I support the frustration of the deputies when a smart mouth thinks she is too good and too well protected. She got what she deserved. But she should also get hard time for car theft.

michele   March 2nd, 2009 7:27 pm ET

I think that you commentators especially CNN are cruel and immature ! Bristol is still young and should not be put in this position . and you guys try to find dirt on Sarah Palin every chance you get! Why don't you go after the dirt on the newly elected White House because there is so much that we should concern ourselves with . You guys are so unfair and it actually makes me sick to may stomach! At least try to be fair and what if Bristol was your daughter. Be and encourager not a destroyer.

Lori   March 3rd, 2009 2:06 pm ET

Hey, Lorrie – might not want to throw stones...Got it?

12Xy3   March 3rd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

believe me, staying abstinent is nearly impossible when you oppose experimenting with ones self. it will actually make a better lover out of you once your comfortable with your own touches.

12Xy3   March 3rd, 2009 3:36 pm ET

thank you, thank you. i just want to give further thanks to my higher powers, whom i rarely can identify. their dead most of them. i chose to be a necronomican after years of falling of the Christian band wagon. there is no stability in Christian philosophy. all it does is control by force of fear. in which case we all going to hell!

Anthony   March 3rd, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Why do you refer to President Obama, as Barack Obama, or Obama.?
I have been watching you show for sometime now. I fine this to be somewhat disrespectful. Please explain!

Thank you.

towbs   March 3rd, 2009 4:12 pm ET

Regarding Karl Seemann comment, A man should never put his hands on a woman and/or female! Yes, what she did was wrong, which is why we have a system that is suppose to be followed but very rarely is it followed through correctly, however, only a cockroach would beat on a defenseless 15 year old female like how that officer did. He also murdered a mentally ill man and yet he still, remains on the force. I am willing to bet any amount of money that if she were a blond, he would have handled her differently.

Dan   March 3rd, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Oboma is not making sense. Spending money will not fix the economy.

The economy will recover only when investors beleive they have reasonable return on their investment. Only reduced taxes can affect this.

Betty   March 3rd, 2009 10:27 pm ET

Rick I use to see you in Miami, I am cuban also (came in 1960) & lived in Fl until 1993 that we moved to California to be with the kids & now we are in TX, I received this but I don't is it true or not.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's home district includes San
Francisco

Star-Kist Tuna's headquarters are in San Francisco , Pelosi's
home district.

Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor for
Pelosi.

Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the Samoan work force.

Paul Pelosi, Nancy 's husband, owns $17 million dollars of
Star-Kist stock.

In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25, Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase so Del Monte would not have to pay the higher wage. This would make Del Monte products less expensive than their competition's.

Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an
earmark to the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an
'economic development credit in American Samoa '.

Pelosi has called the Bush Administration "CORRUPT"

How do you spell "HYPOCRISY" ??

I also have a question for you, Lung Cancer is the #1 killer, then I believe comes prostate, why i s it that breast cancer is the only one that receives so much attention? I have lung cancer stage IV & I see how much money goes to breast & how much goes to lung, it seems that you an answer for everything do you have one for this?

Thanks & God bless you & your family

Unbelieveable Rick....re:Dodds-Obama-AIG...you've managed to gloss over what would have been a three day topic had it involved the Republicans.
Another example of how you've lost all journalistic credibility.
