bball riot

This is definitely a foul. (WSFA)

Montgomery, Alabama. The game wasn't even close!

It was the 4th quarter of a class 5A high school basketball semifinal game, when a scuffle on the court spread into the stands.

Talk about a mess! Dozens of fans punched and kicked each other until police and school security officers managed to break it up.

Both schools have been kicked out of the state playoffs, but is that a strong enough penalty?

In this clip, you'll see the brawl and the arrests. Plus Rick, law enforcement analyst Mike Brooks, and In Session's Ashleigh Banfield break it down and discuss whether or not there are criminal charges to pursue.

Rick,
In regards to the horrible New York Post editorial on Wed 2/18/09, I will tell you, as a former employee of the New York Post, in my position there as a supervisor in the circulation department, I routinely reccieved memos from management on how to handle reader complaints concerning the insensitive, crude and bordline racist editorials that the New York Post routienly printed in the paper. In one instance in the paper printed an editorial which was insensitive and racist in regard to people of Arab descent. A reader had called in a bomb threat to the circulation offices, and the paper had to send security over to the circulation offices. The New York Post is well known for their insensitive, crude, and bordline racist editorials and comments.

Mr. Sanchez is supercilious, pretentious, and downright annoying to watch. His constant communication with the control booth is just silly. He is inappropriately animated at times and is just the worst anchor you have. It is surprising he is still on the air.

We bail out these banks that gave out bad loans and then failed!! and now they get bailed out again and refuse to give loans out to people who need it to run their buisness or stay in their homes?

I dont get it, why dont someone tell these bums to let some of our tax paying money go so we can stay afloat!!!

Mike, Albuquerque, NM   February 19th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

There was a time, not so long ago, that this is what people would do on a Saturday night. On both side of my family, my grand fathers and there brothers would go out, get drunk, and get into brawls. In fact, that is how my fathers father met my grandmother in 1930. He and his four brothers were busting up a barn dance when a woman bashed his head in with a meat tenderizor. When he fell to his knees with blood gushing from his forehead and straeming down his face, he looked up to see a vision of love. It was a sweet redheaded girl with a glow in her eyes and her arms out stretched. She soon became his wife and much longer down the road my grandmother.
Like it or not, this is part of American tradition and culture. With an entertwined embrace of violence, brotherhood, and love. Please do not fiegn shock or judgement. We are not naive about these things. We are born to it.

O. Kemp, Ontario   February 19th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Just a note re: your Canada/Obama coverage. Mr. Harper is not the Head of State of Canada – he is the Prime Minister in our Parliamentary System of government. The Head of State is the Governor General who President Obama met earlier (and before meeting Mr. Harper )as protocol requires. The two functions are seoarated in Canada.

New York Post Employees Unhappy, Ashamed Of Offensive Cartoon

The mood inside the New York Post, it seems, is a mix of anger and bewilderment that the paper published a cartoon depicting the authors of the stimulus as a dead, crazed chimpanzee.

On Wednesday, an employee of the paper told the Huffington Post that the phone lines had been inundated with complaints over what was interpreted as a racially charged jab at Obama. "As they f–king should be," said the source.

Today, meanwhile, the Post's Associate Editor, Sandra Guzman, sent out an email to other reporters distancing herself from the paper's cartoon and acknowledging that she has talked to management about her disapproval.

"Thank you for your feedback," reads the email. "Please know that I had nothing to do with the Sean Delonas cartoon. I neither commissioned or approved it. I saw it in the paper yesterday with the rest of the world. And, I have raised my objections to management. –Sandra Guzman."

The Post has stood by the cartoon, saying that it was meant to mock the contents of the stimulus by comparing the legislation to a now-infamous chimpanzee who attacked a woman in Connecticut.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs was asked about the image on the Air Force One, Wednesday and had the following to say: "I have not seen the cartoon, but I don't think it's altogether newsworthy that I don't spend a lot of time reading the New York Post."

Rick:

Comments made by AG Holder and your guest Mark Sawyer unfortunately do not advance the cause for better race relations which I am sure is the desire of a majority of Americans.

RUTH AMEKA   February 19th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Amy missed the point. People would not have associated the monkey with the president if they had not put the remarks about signing the stimulus. The president is the one who signed it, not Nancy Palosi or Harry Reed.

terry burns   February 19th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

If george bush was still president would the chimp cartoon be racist. It's only racist to the people who read it make a racist connection.

Niki   February 19th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Rick – I really wish you would read more comments from your CNN blog. I tried to get on twitter and I can't figure out how to post a question or comment and I'm not on Facebook.

Regarding the comments of the Attorney General – his whole point is that when someone is accused of making a racist remark or being racially offensive the person accused turns it around and acts more insulted by the accusation of racism itself and try to make us forget the racism. The fact that Lou Dobbs made a point to ask if Americans are OFFENDED by the AG's remarks rather than focus on the reason why he said it in the first place is proof that Americans are too cowardly to actually discuss the issues.

Clearly the cartoonist was hoping that the cartoon was vague enough that one could imagine they were connecting the animal to our Black President. If the cartoonist wanted to make the cartoon clear put a sign around the chimp's neck with the world "Congress" on it.

We don't live in a race-less society so the point was made to those who think of Black Americans as less than human.

Are Americans cowardly about race? Yes. If we weren't then banks that held slaves as collateral or owned slaves would do more than apologize – they would make reparations to the slaves' descendants. If we weren't cowards then African Americans would be able to go to college for free and would have been compensated for unpaid slave labor. The damage that has been done to slaves and their descendants has not been repaired. Black Americans are generally not treated in the same way as Whites, all things being equal. Until this country is willing to discuss that in a fair way, we'll continue to have racial issues in this country.

Joelle Dawson-Barker   February 19th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

I'm having a little trouble with this as this is my first comment for Rick.
He and another reporter were having a discussion about how
together Prez Obama is in all of this. The also said it was hard
to understand because of his upbringing.

His upbringing is exactly what helps him stay steady and mild
mannered. I went to the same high school as his mother (our
Senior Year) – Mercer Island High School, Mercer Island, WA, VERY
near Seattle. She wanted, at that time, to be called Stanley Anne,
because her father had wanted a boy. She was WAY ahead of
her time in being very self confident, very interesed in the whole
world and its peoples. Thus the interest in anthropology and
such.

Our school was quite small (we, the third graduating class, was 150
or so students). It was then and still is considered one of the
best academic high schools in the country. We had "head start"-type classes before other schools even thought of them. Stanley Anne
spent a great deal of time talkuing to her teachers and soaking
up their knowledge.

I am absolutely SURE she encouraged Prez. Obama to do and be
the same. Not only the knowledge, but the concern for the welfare
of other people. Why in the world would she take her son with her
when she went to Indonesia? Why in the world would she have
married Barack's father? She would be soooo proud of him. I am
glad at least his grandmother lived long enough to be involved in
his election.

David Kim   February 19th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Rick Sanchez,

You suggested that President Obama should have visited Mexico first and you had a tone of belittlement when speaking about Canada after the joint press conference between Obama and Prime Minister Harper.

For your information, Canada is the U.S.'s largest trading partner and closest friend and ally. I am very happy and proud that Obama chose Canada to be his first international visit as the U.S. President, which by the way was arranged several weeks ago. Yeah, a Canadian visit is INTERNATIONAL – we are a separate and sovereign nation.

Rick – I have watched and listened to Rev. Al Sharpton's tirades many times and I find him to be one of the most racist people I have ever observed. If you showed him a picture of a rose and a U.S. flag, he would somehow twist the pic to be anti-African American. I believe his main objective is to promote Rev. Al Sharpton.

NYP-Cartoon, tasteless & offensive, Amy Holmes, Identity crisis from birth!

andel11   February 19th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

I can't Stand Amy Holmes, she is so predictable in what she is going to say, she is saying the exact same thing every Rep is saying. Also Why can't she address the Presidient with his tilte. She deliberalty says Barrack Obama, she is not his friend. She needs to show some respect and address the President as President Obama is that asking to much from someone who should know better.
What am I saying its Amy Holmes she has no respect for anyone unless its a Republican or her former boss.

c denson   February 19th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

Can america answer these ?, why does'nt the inner cities look like the suburbs, why do african americans have the worst health care, why is there high crime in the african american nieghborhoods, why do african americans go to prison more than others, why does'nt african americans have more corporate jobs -own bussiness. When you compare the rest of the people in this country with these ? ask our self why.

The current president ( Obama)should use his influence in Iraq and have the reporter 's sentence commuted as time served. This would send a powerful message of good will to the Iraqi people.

Hi Rick,I would like to know if Amy Holmes is a Cnn contributor or a republican contributor or defender, because every time someone say something good about Clinton,Obama or another top democrat,it seems like she gets mad but when that cartoon came out, every body coul see that it was tasteless and against the president except her,you dont need to be a democrat or a black person to see that, she needs to be impartial or like the doctor said she looks foolish.

Adam Sterling, III   February 19th, 2009 4:38 pm ET

Dear Mr. Sanchez,
In response to your question about the correct setting for the statement by the U.S. Attorney General in calling Americans "a Nation of Cowards". Yes, this was the proper setting for the statement getting the U.S. Justice Department off on the right foot. The label may not have been proper but it was better than the "benign neglect" treatment offered by the late Sen. Daniel Monihan which has basically been the practice of almost all his predecessors in the Justice Department since the the late Attorney General Bobby Kennedy some 48 years ago. Racism is still rampant in America and some think that now because America has elected its first African American President that all of Americas' racial problems are solved. Not so! There is not an hour day or night that African Americans and other minorities and persons of mixed race or sexual orientation are affected by injustice on the streets, in the military and the workplace in these United States. "Liberty and Justice for all" is not yet a reality. Wealth, race, social status and political connections often come into play to bring about the disparity in the pursuit of this reality. The Status Quo is not the answer. Were the Attorney General to neglect this subject, he would be considered by many to fit the role of what the late Malcolm X called "a house ni****r" and by others an Uncle Tom. To hear these remarks in a mellow tone unlike that of the Rev. Dr, Wright and failing to accept this truism speaks for itself.

Pat Hooper   February 19th, 2009 4:39 pm ET

Rick,
I'm sorry, I can't make heads nor tails of twitter, I'm a nurse, not very tech minded. I do have something to say though, re: the U>S> Attorney General's statement of racial cowardice, so here goes:
That there have been and possibly still are, injustices perpetrated on people of color in the U.S. simply because of their skin color is a shameful piece of American History. Unfortunately, human nature is, as such, often governed by fear, which is fueled by ignorance and encourages hate. This must be overcome if we are to survive and thrive as a nation. By the way, this is so on both sides of the argument.
That said, I am caucasion, with an ancestry that is Irish American Roman Catholic. I am female, and 57 years old. I am also a lesbian.
Lets see...... Irish were definately discriminated against, There has been one Roman Catholic president in our history and he was assinated....... I have been a victim of gender discrimination and earn less than a male for doing the same job........ I am lesbian, I do not have equal civil rights, not even the basic right to a legal "marriage", so my contributions to Social Security will not benefit my chosen life partner.......... I am also 57 years old....... does "ageism" ring a bell?
I appreciate the U.S. Attorney General's position, and it is a valid one, but please forgive me if I cannot be jumping up and down in agreement, concentrating soley on our "racial cowardice". I, too, have been and continue to be, discriminated against, not only by narrow minded bigots, but by my own government.
I don't expect this to air, I just want to thank you for allowing this point of view. I don't even expect you to read it, I can only hope.

jack kerrigan   February 19th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

was the attorney general referring to these animals as cowards? or since is black is accusing all whites of being cowards?

Senya   February 19th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

Rick,
Yes, we are cowards...unfortunately. I am a retired school teacher and I have watched young 4th graders practice what their parents have taught them on a daily basis. I have worked with children of all races. For the most part, I have not had problems with disrespectful children. But what I have seen in white children is obedience when instructed by their parents about racial issues...that is...where they sit, especially at lunch, to whom they talk, with whom they should socialize and/or choose to play on their teams. These extremely obedient children who have sat on my lap, hugged me throughout the day and cried on my shoulder for support...hardly know if they should speak to me in the grocery store. Yet I have heard some of these same children disrespect their parents, slam doors in their faces, slap them and are terribly sassy to their parents. I see none of this in my classroom. Why would a child peer up at the teacher whom they have seen for 5-6 hours of the day have such a problem speaking to his/her teacher? Eric Holder is right. We spend too much time finding ways to divide. Most of our work day is spent in the company of several races. But at the end of the day we no longer are one. If young children learn hypocrisy at an early age, then they become grown-up hypocrites. Hypocrisy is perpetrated throughout the lifetime of the races. Sad...but true.
Senya

jack kerrigan   February 19th, 2009 4:57 pm ET

rac ism will exist in this country as long as the media keeps hyping it up. every race prefers to stay with their own kind, their comfort zone. I am not racist but i believe it is my right to live and associate with whom i want to. blacks always want to play the race card, they don't like whites anymore than whites like them in general. is it white people who kill blacks? blacks kill blacks more than any other race. they blame whites for their drug addictions, lack of work, etc. that just their way.. and why is it that black have the highest population among inmates? it's because their families just care about bettering themselves, just blame their woes on the white man. there are many blacks who have succeeded in this world and didn't play the race card. it's time to look in the mirror and step up to the plate and hold yourselves accountable. the attorney general called all americans as cowards, that includes whites, blacks, hispanics, asians indians, etc. i think he is a coward for making such a ridiculus statement

Christina   February 19th, 2009 5:31 pm ET

I really wonder what was going on in the minds of the people @ this game who either participated in the fight, left or just watched. Is it based on someone's fight or flight tendencies? I am not a fan of psychology by any means, but I do think it could help explain what seems to be this mob mentality. There has to be more to the story then just a foul between 2 players. I don't mean to make light of the situation but it reminds me of the movie Stand By Me when Lard@#! started a barf-o-rama at the fair! 1 puke, 2 puke, 1 punch, 2 punch so on and so on. Ha, enjoy the show Rick, but lets stretch u to 2 hours please!!:)

Lee Figueras   February 19th, 2009 5:33 pm ET

Rick Sanchez tell me why has no one followed up on the bakery in the village in New York city. The guy made drunken negro cookies, with large red eyes, and disfigured facial features, and hes said that he was paying homage to President Obama. good luck. He also made racial remarks to one of this white customers, and when she told the press, hje denied it. He should be foycotted and exposed to the public that supports him. His comment and picture showed up on U-tube in living color he is a Greek Americn , and he has no room for ridicule. He is hated by other caucasian americans as well. I think he is jus trying to fit in with the KKK and Arien Brotherhood. He should take out his membership.

Debra Simmons   February 19th, 2009 5:40 pm ET

Amy Holmes is a person that really makes you wonder about common sense. If the NYP cartoonist was speaking about the Stimulus bill being written and passed by Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic party, wouldn't he have had a DONKEY being ridden by a woman that represents Italians? Or a recognizable woman like the Mona Lisa in a cartoon. But when a chimp, ape or gorilla is shown with the caption NYP showed I do believe that the historical slap in the face to African Americans over the centuries is one that will cause outrage.

Ms Amy completely discounted Mr. Sawyer's comments and tried to wash over his comments with her observation of there must be something wrong with the thought process of the people who see this cartoon as a slur against President Obama. I wonder what she would have come up with if it had been a noose instead?

MEENA SHANKER   February 19th, 2009 6:02 pm ET

So, Amy Holmes believes (or, may be PRETENDS TO BELIEVE) that the New York Post Cartoon depicting a Chimpanzee being shot at was in reference to Nancy Pelozi and Harry Reed? Does she really think she can sell this nonsense to intelligent adults?

If it was a reference to Pelozi and Reed and to the Democratic Party as a whole, why was it not a DONKEY on the cartoon, but a Chimpanzee? Where did the Chimpanzee come from, even though the story of the Chimpanzee gone wild is all over the news? What has that Chimpanzee got to do with the Stimulus Bill, or the Democratic Party, or Pelozi, or Reed, as Holmes claims?

Ms. Holmes seems to be extremely happy kissing the butts of the Republicans and the Conservatives. Does she not have any self-esteem whatsoever?

FRANK   February 19th, 2009 7:21 pm ET

Rick: Reading your blogs, I don't understand why African-Americans are alleged "Racists"? I haven't read, heard or told of any African-American lynching a white person because of colour. I've never heard of any Black American bombing a white church or burning anything on any white persons property because of colour!

FRANK   February 19th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

Amy Holmes is a whole other story, she is the quintessential "wannabe"! If she awoke one morning and found herself the "watermelon woman" as the character in "Watermelon Man", no doubt her dark complexion would cause Hari-Kari!

Cecil Jones   February 20th, 2009 12:21 am ET

Where is Al Sharpton, the NAACP and the "Hiphopacrites?" This is traditionally the type of event and behavior they can't wait to defend. Talk about making "Monkeys" out of us. I voted to change things like this and we can't get past words because "We are Stuck on Stupid." Let me talk to America? Rick we need someone with "Common Sense."

Mirta Mulhare   February 20th, 2009 11:43 am ET

We should be aggressively going after the narco production in Afghanistan. It funds terrorism and insurgency. It should be a priority to find those poppy fields and destroy them. We also need to help develop other means of sustenance through the creation of a group for Afghanistan development of substitute means of national productivity. Given the natural resources available and the entrenched habits and profits, it will be hard. But it should be a priority. What are they doing now? Are they searching? Using unmanned surveillance flights? I hear nothing about it. Have they ever done a comprehensive special? You should.

Denise   February 20th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

I think the kids from the team that purposefully blew the foul shots( kid on the opposing team showed up late for the game because his mom passed )deserve to be glorified by having their story reported repeatedly not these morons . Our kids don't need to see any more "bad attention " role models. If we don't reward and report good behavior they are going to all grow up to be like Burris with ego's so in need of attention that even bad attention is good attention with no shame or embarrassment

I would really like to know how this stimulus bill is going to help me. I bought my house in 2006 for $241,000.00. In 2007, it was appraised for $325,000.00, but the bank wanted it appraised at $285,000.00 for my refinance. Today, I would be lucky to get $220,000.00 and I owe $251,000.00. Please advise as to how Obama is going to help me with the signing of this ridiculous bill.

Rick: I was glad to hear the Lansing mayor's perspective on your subject, Wall Street vs. Main St. I agree with his take on the matter, but I would like to have heard a little more. I don't know what we viewers gain from you cutting off and interrupting the thoughful comments of people at ground zero of the economic meltdown. There's no need to get hyper about the topic and show-off–just let your experts speak and be heard. There is a difference between provocative questions and flogging a topic. Rick please tell Santelli to come to my house for a tour of the "really Americans" who are being help by the stimulous package, he just dont get it.

Ann   February 20th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Rick,

What is wrong with America. Back when my grandparents
came over from Italy, and we are known as the melting pot.

I remember them speaking of the Great Depression, when
neighbors that would have little to nothing, and Wall Street
Crashed, and everyone is jumping out the windows.

What happened to when there was a death in a family,
wedding, and these people had nothing, still came over
with cakes, hams, turkey, pies, a neighbor helping the neighbor.

I think we need to get back to our roots, and that man standing
in Wall St., needs to take a look at his own roots, maybe he
will be on the foreclosure end, and stop being greedy, and
will need his neighbors to help pay his mortgage, and flush
his toilet, so he needs to take a powder, and stop looking
through the Wicked Witches of West Crystal Ball, and look
in his own backyard.

I would certainly like America to be the way it used to be
neighbors being neighbors, and let Wall St. clean up its
act, and show the transpiracy that is needed, and regulate
their paychecks, and see how it is live on Main St. instead
of Wall St.

Ann in Florida

Eston P.   February 20th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Hey Rick

Quit trying to represent Middle America with your criticism of Wall Street as if they're the only ones upset with the housing plan. Our legislators allowed this mess to happen while greedy Wall Street took advantage of it. However, as a retiree who has saved all my life I'm not thrilled about paying for the people getting bailed out of bad deals which will cause my savings and fixed income to be devastated by the inflation that will result from all the government spending. I agree with Rick Santelli

I must have got the cartoon wrong. I thought it meant that you can teach a monkey any thing. But Congress can't build a Stimulus Bill.

bill   February 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Today in the news:
1. New York Post cartoon of the monkey getting shot by the police "Guess we need to find someone else to write the next Stimulus Bill" Blacks are through the roof on this one saying it is racial, I took it as merely congress is a bunch of monkeys and still do but the Post Appologized today. I do not think they should have. I do not see the intent
2. Eric Holder, says we are "Cowards" regarding racial issues, says we haven't gone far enough because whites don't invite blacks home for dinner yet?
3. SC Senator says that the States that refuse stimulus money "Slap in the face of African-Americans"
4. Commentator questions why Black History month is February, the shortest month of the year?? Lets switch it to March and then have a White History month, Mexican History month, Irish History month, Italian History month, Muslim History month, Jewish History month plus 5 more?
5. Several Black Commentators have recently pointed out in a threatning way that by the year 2050, Whites will be the minority so they better keep that in mind.
6. Raymond Burris, the new Senator from Illinois claims the people against him because of his changing story about contact with the governor are racists trying to get the only black out of the Senate.

Maybe we weren't ready for Black Leadership

zack   February 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

typical inner city behavior - I have no remorse for these criminals or there actions any longer they get what they deserve, when all you care about in life is what thug rapper with a mouth full of gold or NFL or basketball or A rod wannabe star is driving or wearing and YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT like 27" rims or 300 jeans -- and do nothing but think your living GTA IV the video game as a real life – selling drugs or commiting crimminal & immoral acts to get the money to buy these lavish stupidities with out consiquence then you get what you see here – undisciplined individuals with no morals thinking they can do as they please ...

very typical behavior of these types of people – most are cowards and would not stand toe – toe in a one on one fight and choose to play guirella tactics in mobs likes this and quote " I gets MINES INs whens I CANS " later after its all done and they ran from the police...

Congrats! Great job on presenting the wall St whiners, waiting themselves handouts from the gvt.
I love this capitalistic attitude; I'd have never imagined seeing this; Rick SANTELLI ON WALL STREET;
As you guessed, It is workers vs producers. we have strong unions here in Los Angeles, like the California faculty Association, but we are fighting a TERMINATOR! That is Arnold the Ripper!

Lets put the p back into the GDP. Ha! Nice to say, hard to do! The worker, Its been bled dry, to death.

Veronica   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Hi Rick
You asked if the Obama administration has somehow started a divide between Wall Street and Main Street. His worldview has empowered "the rest of us".. His support of the mainstream and underpriviledged population, has given people a voice to stand against the greed and corruption of the wealthy that has been so prevelant A voice that I believe is going to turn into a roar. I applaude Mr. Obama for his courageous stance.

Nancy McMahon   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Rick, this housing plan revolt has nothing to do with rich vs poor. It has to do with responsible vs irresponsible people. Those of us who played by the rules and didn't get into monstrous debt that we couldn't pay for resent having to pay for those that didn't learn how to add and subtract in elementary school. It does not require a math genius to figure out $ that come in and $ that need to go out. Since when is home ownership an entitlement? Because that is apparently what Barney Franks and Chris Dodd (more congressional slimeballs) seem to think.

carla   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Rick
I here people screaming about Eric Holder saying we (all americans) are a nation of cowards. Well when you have that kind of racial cartoon and the people in power not speaking out about it–it prove the cowards. Then the black talking heads are put on tv –like Amy and Ron to shame themselve and race for thirty pieces of silver. Pat Buchann scream about how terrible black people are unwed pregancy. What about his Bristol Palin not to mention incest rape and taking other peoples property–like white people have all through history. What about serial killers and death wish punkers. white supremacy

Bob Curt   February 20th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Hi Rick
you wont read this on air, but you should know that Hannity's advice regarding buying gold was just about the best investment advice you could have received in the past few weeks. Gold has hit a 7 month high

Dave   February 20th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Rick, why do you and all media folk run to Sharpton and Jackson for comments on anything to do with racial issues when both have made ridiculous comments about Jews, Sharpton sued for falsy accusing white cops, etc. Are they really the voices of tolerance?

jack   February 20th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Not a surprise that Sean Hannity would recommend someone or some company that would further his own interests. Intelligent people know not to listen or trust Sean as most of us know about his dishonesty and his Un American ways

If we let the banks fail, what happens to the loans the banks have with people? Are the loans voided out /paid in full or do they still have to be paid and to whom? If the loans still have to be paid how will that work? Also where do the people go to get future loans? I'm getting more confused! What's wall street answer to that? I'm sure they have the answers?

Jack   February 20th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Hmmm....I really think the artist was attempting to imply that the stimulus pkg, by the way, written by Dems, not just the Pres., was written with the same "lack of intellegence" as our ancestors, all of which came originally from Africa. I don't think allowing someone who openly disregards the teachings of the great MLK Jr, should be allowed to give his "all incompassing" opinion about offisiveness when he himself opening only speaks out when issues "HE" feels is offisive to African Americans. His statements about "whites" instead of Caucasions, is most likely offisive to them as well. He supports the advancement of "Colored People" as long as they are only of Black color and his continued appearence on these matters are offisive to those of us who are of other "Colors" that he will not defend. By the way Al, my ancestors were also from Africa, originally.
I thought you were a man of God?

Walt   February 20th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Rick, that last remark about FOX was not a faux pas1 You should be on FOX with Hannity, Rush and Bill O'Reilly!!!

Denise   February 20th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Rick,

How is it that you addresses everyone correctly (Pres. Bush, Revs, Generals), but you consistently calls Pres. Obama "Barack Obama". THAT IS SO DISRESPECTFUL! It is obvious that you have a dislike for Pres. Obama...so stop reporting as if you are unbais.

You have given ALL the other presidents and first ladies their respect, EXCEPT our (if not yours) President and First lady Obama.

Why don't they reconfigure the car companies as they did with BMW during World War II?Let Honda,Toyota,Hyundai,Mazda,do what they do so well. They already have plants here in America,so why not?The so called Big Three can reconfigure their manufacturing plants to meet the needs of our economy and our struggling work force.I remember when in Germany they had BMW quit manufacturing planes and start manufacturing cars. Why not restructure the plants to make something that is viable to us all, they already have an inventory glut,so they should sale what they presently have and then move on and start manufacturing wind turbines,do some R and D on some of the more important concerns that keep us viable on the world market.Think outside the box and be a leader,by the way where did they go?Great book by Lee I.(Where have all the Leaders Gone).

According to my ethics you don't hit a man while he is down, all the students who acted thus should be prosecuted but those more on the periphery can just be handled administratively.

Tanya   February 20th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

Who really is the anti-America? Everyone in the media that has critized the Presidents plans to bring this country and it's citizens to prosperity has been white. The mostly white RNC as tried to abolish all attempts to helping struggling Americans. Everyone that has had face time in the media and going against to president and his administration has been from white Americans. It seems pretty clear to me who hates this country.

Angel L Rivera   February 21st, 2009 1:54 pm ET

Please media people, can you get this right? Middle class is not spending money because we are waiting for products to go on sale, we are not spending money because WE HAVE NO MONEY, we have enough money to pay bills. There is no overtime left, my wife lost her job and while we, the middle class, are giving billions of dollars to the rich, we in return are getting $400.00 tax incentives, crumbs falling from the table of rich elite. Please stop it, do not say anymore we do not want to spend.

Willie A. Little   February 21st, 2009 9:14 pm ET

Hi Rick, you would be better served if you were to just give the news, and not try and be Judge and Jury. I.m getting to the point were I tune you out. You went on and on about those Dolphins stuck under the ice the other day. What about all those people stuck on roof tops, floating in water, stuck at the Dome for days without food or water? Let a horse or dog fall though ice and you guys go on and on, all day long.
You have practically convicted Roland Burris single handed.

Lynn Norton   February 21st, 2009 9:41 pm ET

Rick,
I am a new fan of your program-good job, keep it up.
I am contracting you because a few things bother me.
1. I would be very nervous if the government took over the banks. Between that and the idea of a single payer health care system are down right frightening me. That is because it looks like the country is leaning towards socialism. We need to keep our individualism.
2. The money that is left in TARP I think would be better served if the amount left is distributed to all citizens 18 and over who filed income tax. Believe me, if a sizeable amount like that goes to the taxpayers hands, it will be spent. I feel the $600.00 that was sent out before was too little to make an impact. I think people would be quick to spend a larger amount to pay towards their mortgage, buy clothes, buy cars, etc.
3. What does the package do for people like me? I am disabled, cannot work, do I get a stipend or not?
Thank you for your attention.
Lynn

Ridiculous. What kind of message does this send to the students of these schools? Yes, criminal charges definately!! And I would bar both school from next year's playoffs too!!

Marina Tiscareño   February 23rd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

I live in Houston TX, and feel really disappointed with Gov. Perry, of course we need the money. My husband is an architect and with recession times, they get hit first, no money for new projects, we need to think out of the box, not looking for political gain, I guess he didn't was affected by Ike last year. We are doing fine for now and getting ready in case things gets bad, but with no help at all what do you think is going to happen. This is a moment for unity!!!!

rockman   February 23rd, 2009 3:44 pm ET

EXCUSE ME.. WHAT IS THIS UNITY CRAP? SHOULD WE JUST EAT WHATEVER GETS THROWN AT US BY OBAMA? PERSONALLY I DONT WANT THE DEMOCRATS HANDING OUT HOUSES AGAIN LIKE THEY DID IN THE 90S . IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE OBAMA IS DOING JUST THAT. I WORK FOR MY MONEY AND I DONT FEEL LIKE HANDING IT OUT TO PEOPLE WHO DONT! SLAM REPUBLICANS ALL YOU WANT! THE DEMONCRATS WILL PROVE REPUBLICANS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT AND DEMOCRATS WILL DESTROY THE NATION! STUPID PEOPLE!

Tedde McMillen   February 23rd, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Lottery winners spend their money on "stuff" and lose it in a couple of years. They could have invested their money in the stock market and lost it in a couple of days.

Gypsy   February 23rd, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Imagine the effect when media consistently reports positive news about the "change" Obama's approach produces. Like state Governors welcoming oversight of emergency funds; people benefitting with jobs, etc; congress moving beyond whining about getting re-elected; focusing on congressional members who work for the people. Wow!

Nevin Andreas   February 23rd, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Rick,
I'm sure you heard of "{joe the plumber", I am "Nevin the Electrician".
I have the answer to the Oil, Automobile, and Green Gas Problem. My electric car is called the Periphery. It will eliminate the use of Oil and with transportation not spuing Carbon Monoxide solving the Green G as Problem.

Susanta Heendeniya, Problem Solver   February 23rd, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Work for the Laid Off

With job layoffs still escalating, should we not turn to other means of helping the distressed return to work? Finding needs related to their best medium of occupational self-expression. Devising easily affordable solutions to fill the needs with out of work friends. Pooling resources and starting off in a garage or basement at home and growing together to supply the ready market. Bill Gates did it with Microsoft and Richard Branson with Virgin Atlantic, why not you?

There are no unsolvable problems, only unrecognized solutions. Nothing is impossible. “Impossible” is merely a word used as an excuse not to try by the lazy and incompetent. Needs waiting to be filled and opportunities to fill them abound around us. Stay open to more ideas without waiting for the job situation to recover.

Susanta Heendeniya, Problem Solver   February 23rd, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Momentarily – Most misused word in Corporate America

Would you please tell Wolf Blitzer and Corporate America that the word “MOMENTARILY” in the English language means “FOR” a moment, NOT “IN” a moment. In England they would probably call it “Murdering the Queen”.

Unfortunate;y, Ruper Murdoch owns just about every TV station. media, newspaper and all tabloids that produce sleazy news and article. It is not surprise that all his papers crosses all lines of good ethics. He is only sorry because there was lots of pressure from the masses. He is a unscruplous businessman.

If credit is such a problem for the American People as it relates to obtaining credit to purchase the things we need; why hasnt someone talked about updating or overhauling the credit system and the way credit is rated? It seems to me that in America nobody can really explain how credit reporting agencies rate credit. The credit rating system is confusing, outdated, and not very many people really know how it works. People are punished everyday for inaccuracies on their credit bureaus and it takes literally an "act of congress to get things corrected. The Obama administration should work from the people's side of the equation instead of from the business' side. Why isn't more being done by the Obama campaign to address this issue?

Dr Peter Chambers   March 2nd, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Mr. Sanchez,
I recently received an E-Mail that posed a question, " why did AIG receive a bailout so quickly?" Is there any validity to the answer, that AIG insures the trust for the pension of the Congress? If so that would explain the appalling rapid and continued funneling of tax payer money to AIG.

This is not Testosterone run a mock!

This is plain stupidity because this is the result of when parents let their children run the house hold and the government take away our rights and our ability to discipline them. Also, you should not be surprised, especially when sports have taken priority in most of the U.S. follow the Money. How many star athletes have you seen lately that have gotten a slap on the hand for drug use, carrying and shooting someone.

Have you ever heard the saying: " Ignorance can be corrected stupidity is for ever!"
