Gov. Blagojevich

Una Cara Dura?

Something to take note of today: it's called "Una Cara Dura". That's what my mom calls it. Translation: having a hard face.

Consider it a person's ability to do or attempt to do something that would embarrass most of us, yet they are seemingly unaffected by it.

What am I talking about? Consider these examples:

Let's say you get caught on tape allegedly shaking down a children's hospital for money.

Or waiting a month to report your daughter is missing and later being charged in her disappearance.

Or having sex with an intern in the oval office.

Or being a grown man, a United States senator, accused of soliciting sex in a men's bathroom.

Then, many of these same people call news conferences and give interviews as if nothing happened.

Is it bizarre behavior or an impressive display of unflappability?

What do you think?

Blagojevich got caught, which is the difference between him and a lot of other politicians. This brings Monica-gate to mind.

Edward Waltersdorf   January 27th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Governor Rod Blagojevich deserves more respect. Isn't a person innocent until proven guilty in this country? I blame the media for making the majority of Americans believe Blagojevich is guilty. Everyone should remember that he has executive experience.

iris   January 27th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Abolish white-collar prison and see if that doesn't change their perspective.

jana redford   January 27th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

let's see Wesley Snipes for the one last senate seat? I do believe the
blush is off the rose

Rick   January 27th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

Why is this being Dragged out for so long? If this were happening to a low to Middle income person like myself, We would have already be in prison. I have never seen so much garbage going on in Washington in my life. I even felt good about our new president, but now, where is his Mind? Money for Grass on the Mall,,,,,better internet service in Rual areas???? I think about all the poor elderly people that don't have food or heat in their little homes and the president is doing this crap, They all need to come to the Country and live on a Working Farm to make a living. This is disqusting!!!!!!

Roger Boyer   January 27th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Rick You had mentioned Narcissism. You may or mya not be aware that there are those who think Obama could very well be a Narcissist. Dr. Sam Vaknin, author of Malignant Self Love, says that Obama's language, posture, and demeanor, and the testimonies of his closest, dearest, and nearest suggest that Obama is either a narcissist or he may have narcissistic personality disorder. (NPD) Dr.Vaknin mentions other Narcissists, such as, David Koresh, Stalin, Saddam, and Hitler as a few examples of Narcissists. They gave people hope! They promised them the moon, but alas, invariably they brought them to their doom. When you are a victim of a cult of personality, you don't know it until it is too late. I do not expect this to get posted, but I needed to satisfy my mine with what I know. Roger

Dee in Florida   January 27th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Your examples are good points, but I think each should be taken individually and not as an excuse to run with the idea that Governor B. is guilty.

In our country, the same country that our men and women are fighting and dying to defend, a person is IN ALL CASES innocent until proven guilty. And it would be a good idea to remember that, as one never knows when the hammer of OPINION will smack you in the head!

Has the media forgotten the Jon Benet Ramsey case?

In that case the family was publicly crucified on the cross of media hype and public frenzy. A mother died under that cloud.

And yet the police publicly APOLOGIZED to the family and apparently the case is still open. (that means there is still a killer out there, guys)

I am not saying that Governor B. is innocent. I am saying that, until all the evidence is heard, and until a JURY says he is guilty of a crime, he is innocent and should be treated as such.

When the state legislature acts (probably to remove him from office) it is NOT proof of criminal action, only proof of stupidity on his part for doing something that even POLITICIANS think is out of line!

What I always wonder when some scandal like this is covered so heavily in the media is, what is the MEDIA covering up? What do THEY know that is so bad that they deliberately want to steer away from it. For the last eight years I think that was the Bush administration!

fran   January 27th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

You know Rick, I really thougt that the Ill gov was a jerk until I listened to the recordings today. He maybe a jerk but I din't hear anything that suggests, without a doubt, that he is guilty of doing anything wrong. It does sound like he is negotiating something, but I don't know for certain what that is. Secondly, if this is all that they've got then it sounds like the invisable WMD type of smoke screen again. Besides doesn't ever politicial representative negotiate for the good of those they represent? Isn't that like lobbying?

John Evans   January 27th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Hooray for Obama. Clearly the board at Citi has no understanding of fiscal responsibility. Perhaps if they were saving earnings as opposed to spending, we the taxpayers wouldn't be bailing them out now. I opposed the bail out for this very reason.

If these Tarp receipients were in bankruptcy, the Judge would have absolute control over every dime they spent. This whole process has become a circus at our expense.

Eldon   January 27th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Rod is a good person with some problems in regard to trying to operate in the milieu of Chicago politis.

For instance: it took almost 10 years for Chicago to get cable Tv. I had a home in Atlanta and had cable TV long before Chgo.

Rod gave the senior citizens a rapid transit free pass which enraged mayor Daley

Rod did other things that showed he cared for the people when politicians did not. ROD WAS ELECTED TWICE.

Let him alone. Everyone in the gov. dislikes him because be does his job.

Rick, this fella is a 2 time elected Govenor so obviously he must have been doing something right. What is his actual legislative record. I understand that he has taken on some pretty big interests and threatened to stop dealing with some big banking interests when the workers of the Republican 'Windows and Doors were refused their legal entitlements. I remember when the story broke and you were interviewing the union leaders. In these times it served as a very important example of what the little guy can do against the corporate theives who have devastated national economies. Probably your stokeholders. Yet you interupted and couldn't wait to run to this story on the Governor's so called wrong doing. And you do it with a straight face! How unbiased can you be working for a capitalist press when it comes to a conflict between workers and owners-maybe the very shareholders who pay you everyday to assasinate a person"s character before they are ever found guilty of any crime what-so-ever. Narcicism? Pot is calling the kettle black here.
Yours,
RR

I also love the way Gibbs is keeping the media and citizens informed about what is going on in Government. I have been clued to CNN for 7 days now and it is Grrreat!!!!! I can honestly say without a doubt that I am now proud to be an American!!!!!!

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..." Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and
they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Rick, I liked your show today about narcissism; it is the downfall of many a politician. Hopefully ALL the narcissist politicians (both sides) will go down in the near future; I'm hoping for some real change in America!

Tanya Rainey   January 27th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

You are right Rick!!!! Regarding the actions of people like Blago and Clinton, being "Hard Faced" as you call it. They are un-ashamed and blatent with it because there indeed has been a paradigm change in both American society, as well as the world in general. As a person who reads and studies the Bible I'm not really surprised. All of this was prophecied 2000 years ago. According to 1 Timothy 3:1-5 ; 13, – "In the last days ....people would be fierce, slanders, false to agreements ... and wicked men and imposters would advance from bad to worse." SOOO, it all seems to be coming true right on time. And by the way, I love your show. I love how deeply you think about things!!!

Jana Redofrd said: "Robert Gibbs is going to unravel sooner rather than later."

I don't agree. he's still getting the "lay of the land" like every other Press Secretary before him. He'll be fiine once he gets a few more sessions under his belt – and learns the players a little better.

Deva A. Dwarka   January 27th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Dear Mr. Sanchez:
It is nice to notice that you are not afraid to speak Spanish from time to time, especially since most of the non-Spanish speaking people feel that Hispanos do not belong in the U.S.A and that we just came over. Most people fail to realize that a large part of this country belonged to Spain and that there were many Spaniards living here before long before there was a country called U.S of America.
However, I would like to correct you on something: "Cara dura" means bare faced which means someone is just shameless and pretends not to know that he or she has done something wrong.
Please do your self and the Hispona community a favor. Do not attempt to translate from Spanish to English: your knowledge of Spanish is, most likely, at a third grade level and you do not have the training or enough knowledge to attempt translations.

John Polete   January 27th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Hey Rick!
Maybe we'd all understand the "Blago conversations" if we just listened to every 2nd or 3rd word instead of all of it! The problem to me is, listening to all of it just makes no sense whatsoever right?
So we have to try an be creative here to "fully" understand the very thing that's not at all understood in the beginning form! or is it I that makes no sense whatsoever? haha john
take care Rick! Your the best!

John Polete   January 27th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

I just wanted to tell you Mr. Sanchez that for me, you are w/o a doubt the type of newsman, that is not only brilliant and take your job very very seriously, but your strong point to me is especially your extremely
high levels of major enthusiasm towards whatever topic is at the forefront! Go rick! john polete

I think all the power of a major political position somehow corrupts the brain in thinking you are the law and above it. These people have lost their way in understanding that they are public servants, not royalty. I wish there was an answer that worked.

Laura Thompson   January 28th, 2009 10:57 am ET

I know the expression well Rick. Mostly dishonest, liers, or with mental disorders act this way. That's why the majority of honest individuals see the diiference and are appalled by it. My opionion on this guy is not good, therefore I would only hope he gets what he deserves and we don't get to hear or see him for a long long time.

Nancy   January 28th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Unethical politicians think they are above reproach and that they can do whatever they like, unethical or illegal or both, without paying any consequences. They overestimate their ability to snow the public.

Ebony   January 28th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

I think it's all about smooth talking. They think they can charm their way through it and when they are found guilty, it won't be so bad because "atleast they confronted it" Look at Hugh Grant when he got caught with the hooker...he said he didn't do, but when it was proved that he did no one cared because he was "charming"

Peter   January 28th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Rick we all know republicans have there hands deep into the pockets of lobbiest, and this is the only reason they want more tax cuts for corperate bussiness , We also know Bush tax cuts got the usa where it is now president Obama Needs to not worry just get the bill past and get moving. Time to bbreak the backs of Republican lobbiest strong holds.

Kelly Kennedy   January 28th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Why is it that every time a republican is making a point, as the house minority leader was just doing moments ago, CNN breaks away to an analyst, thereby rendering the point imcomplete? I try to get a mix of news between CNN, FOX and a few others, but I miss way too much by watching CNN as so much is simply not aired..what happened to fair and balanced news? You're supposed to report news, not edit/omit/sku or create it.

The Republicans didn't have a solution to avoid this economic meltdown before. Is this all aboaut President Obama? Are they trying to make him look bad? I hope theirs constituents rebel against their stonewalling tactics. John McCain sabotaged his campaign so he wouldn't have to deal with the economy. Why don't they just let the President do his job.

The change won't come if people are focused on the little things, we all need to stop whining and let the man do his job. Change is always scary for anyone. The economy is not going to be fixed overnight. We are in this this mess because of Bush and his friends, with their fats pockets! C'mon people we ALL need to face the truth. The rich had their chance, they screwed up BAD and now its a BIG PROBLEM because the rich are hurting now. If it was only the middle class, no one would be worried. President Obama now has to clean up the BIG MESS that Bush and his rich friends(CEO's, politicians, etc..) left behind. The economy will be fixed IN TIME. President Obama and his team are honest and caring. I know they will do what it takes to help everyone, including the people who got us into this trouble in the first place. God bless Obama, his family and the American people.

Jim in Springfield, IL   January 28th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Gov. Blagojevich was impeached because he violated Illinois law and the Illinois Constitution. He keeps claiming he helped people over the legislature's objections. He's right–and he broke the law and violated the separation of powers in our constitution in the process. He spent taxpayer money without legislative approval. He issued state monies to private organizations without legislative approval. Those are facts. If convicted and removed, it will be for those reasons. His sudden arrest by the FBI because of his phone conversations about the Senate seat caused the legislature to move on impeachment quicker han it might have. But almost everyone in Illinois knew Blago's days were numbered - he's been under investigation for years. The national media networks and talk shows are interested in the disgraced governor only because of his alledged attempt to sell President Obama's former Senate seat and his bizarre personal behavior. He is playing you like a fine violin. When he says he's for the uninsured and poor ask him why his administration fails to pay the bills from nursing homes, hospitals, and care organizations–some of which are going out of business because of his policies. He won't raise taxes but borrows state operating monies against the state's teachers retirement funds. In Springfield today, witness after witness layed out the factual record of abuse of power by this governor. His cynical PR campaign is nothing less than an attempt to pollute a potential Chicago jury pool. The major networks have been duped into giving him a platform to sell his bizarre story.

Ricardo   January 28th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

for 3 days now all we here is the same Bla! Bla! Bla! gojevich. I think his idea is to aviod a criminal trial by ending the impeachment proceeding. If he isn't impeached then how can a criminal trial proceed.

Danny C   January 28th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

we dont need to bail out these banks! all they do is spend the people money while we are losing our jobs. what the goverment needs to do is bail-out people that are in trouble from losing there houses and their lively hoods. that should free up the credit market cause, credit is stopping the flow on money right!

DKincaid   January 28th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Rick, Americans have reasons to fear. I was in Rochester, MN, last year for my student internship, and all the boys I played soccer with were all Somali Americans. The kind of anti-American rhetorics I heard from them made me cringe.
I strongly believe that if the FBI does nothing about this, America may be heading for some internal threats.

faith e brooks   January 28th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

rick, why can't the elected officials pass a stimulus package (just items that will imediately stimulate economy) and consider the investment phase later? this may be more work for them but they were just forced to take a 4,000 to 6,000 dollar raise in face of hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs and the lose of billions of retirement and investment dollars of others. i don;t care what party these officials belong to. they are not effected by the economy and are well fixed for life regardless of their constituents opinions as we have witnessed time and time again. a loss of a job needs to be addressed within at least a couple of months or recovery will be impossible. people in need need help now not next sept. also, if this fails we can't get the money back.

james elson   January 28th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

rick i don't know how to do this commenting stuff, but , i just heard the rep speaker of the house say that they have the way to fix the problem and it will cost a lot less money then the dem fix well they had the chance last year , and they decided to give the banks billions instead ,cool right james elson mickleyville, ca. the real north cal.

David   January 28th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Rick:

I think you missed Omar's lsat comment about the Somalis coming back to the USA. He said that this ahs been going on for a long time, undetected. So, he is telling us that here are probably hundreds of these kids (could now be adults) that are already back into USA circulation, never mind what is coming.

David.

Rosita   January 28th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Hi Rick,
I tune into your show everyday at 2Pm. It's quite provocative at times. Those young Muslim men that are leaving this country to train for Jihad against their country the USA., are the ones who should be put on Gitmo, and also loose their citizenship. There are some prisoners who are incarcerated at Gitmo, who were pulled off the streets of Pakistan, and Iraq, and sent to Guantanamo. If they are innocent then they should be released. The rest should be put into the prison population in the USA.

Julia Hanna   January 28th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

In my opinion, rick, congress shouldn't be allowed to pass this stimulus, nobody in the white house should have this kind of authority.
what should happen is every single American that is capable of voting should be given a simplified version of this stimulus package, (not the 600+ page one, just a list of where every penny is going.) and they should vote, they should be the ones putting in opinions on this, the people who this affects the most. Not the corporate big-wigs who, like someone said on your twitter on the TV, can lay off thousands of people and still their CEO gets a yearly bonus , and still banks like Citi can attempt to buy a corporate jet.

The American people should have more of a say in this stimulus plan,

Heather Dawn   January 28th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Re The Illinois Governor

I live in Canada and our laws are very clear when it comes to ethics. For people in trust positions like civil servants and especially our politicians they are required to not only do right and be above suspicion but seen to do right and be above reproach . In Government any person accused of a crime and arrested must resign their position or be fired as the trust is broken. The issue that Mr. Blagoavich does not understand is that although he may indeed be innocent ,.the trust has been irrovocably broken in him and his office. Most people in positions of trust generally lose their jobs when arrested. It may not be fair but the protection of the office and the public trust must always come before the individual.

Given his background and education, he will clearly get his reputation back once he is tried and found not guilty. If found guilty , it is better to have taken the high road from the beginning. Like many teachers and many others falsely accussed and many serving time in prisons, where and how do they get their reputations back? He should be treated like any other American in a position of trust and stand aside until the trials are over. He is not above the regular person as they do not get to go on national TV and yell they are innocent. As a lawyer he is well versed in the law and should stop blaming everyone and expect to be treated differently just because he can fast talk and is the governor. The disgrace is in the way he is managing this crisis in his life and not in the law. The only reason they have to impeach him is due to his lack of respect of the office of the govenor. The house does not have to grant him the same rule of law as an actual trial. They are doing it to protect the office.. He doth protest too much. Quit giving him any more time and energy. We have real problems like people losing their jobs and not haviong food for their kids.

DJ MASACRE   January 28th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

There sould be an age limit to Government, because clearly most of them are living in the past.

why do we continue to let old people run our country who do no understand the needs of the future, nor care.

someone needs to get congress out of their comfort zone and let Obama start planning for our Future now. Its time now.

Typical of Congress to think " Change is bad, we need short term fixes now, forget about the long term fixes because we wont live long enough to see it "

...... =( , the guy from switzerland said it best.

Chris   January 28th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

1 sentence Mr. Sanchez just 1
Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
I say this but believe he is guilty. My belief means nothing just as the rest of the americans belief means nothing. But we all believe and fight for the constitution and the bill of rights.

INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW!!!

Annette   January 28th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

So many of our govt. official has robbed the American people in multiple ways, governor, mayor or presidents and 2nd in command should also be accountable and be put on trial. Watching CNN , I can't believe how stupid does our government think we are. Republicans voted for the 1st bailout with race cars and wooden arrows , and every CEO Merrill Lynch
Citigroup , Maddoff all of them, yes weather property of any kind is in daughter, or spouse name should have to sell it and repay the taxpayer

craig monteilh   January 28th, 2009 6:28 pm ET

Rick, in regards to closing down Gitmo, in my opinion that would be a mistake. The majority of Americans do not understand the thinking of muslims. I lived among them for a little over a year. I was recruited by the F.B.I. to participate in a classified operation in Irvine, CA. We uncovered many plans against U.S. interests. FISA warrants were executed and good things happened as well as bad. Gitmo should remain open.

Dano   January 28th, 2009 7:11 pm ET

Thank you Rick. Keep tellin' it as it is. You and Lou Dobbs rock. Please inform your readers of Waled Phares's excellent writings on Jihad. Wake up, people. The good old days are over. You ARE in danger.

Gloria Emeagwali   January 28th, 2009 7:52 pm ET

I listened to your story about the Somalis of Wednesday 28, 2009. Are you trying to resurrect the Bush- Cheney policy of hate mongering- and the criminalization of whole groups of people without due process? What is your evidence that the Somalis who left for Somalia plan to return? There are various factions in Somali society. So what if the retunees join the moderates and stay? What if they simply want to get back to their peers and school mates? Are you not engaging in fear mongering and Somali bashing? Are you not trying to pull us back into the Bush-Cheney era of fear and hate- for cheap publicity? Are you not encouraging racial and religious profiling?

You are much better than that, Rick.

Zainab   January 29th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

In the case of Blagojevich, it seems that everyone knows he's guilty. His recent publicity stunts have made people question wether or not he's insane. Could he be doing this on purpose so that he could-one day-plead insanity and evade jail time for his criminal acts? Just an idea.

James Hussher   January 29th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

I am watching the speech Blagojevitch is making to the Illinois Senate. He is rambling on about what he did for healthcare for seniors there, and then saying, "Why do you want to impeach me for that?" Does he not understand he is being impeached for trying to seel the Obama's vacant Senate seat? He has not touched on that issue at all.

Richard M., Brooklyn, NY   January 29th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

The only thing that made sense in Blagoavich's rambling closing statement in today's impeachment proceedings was "the tapes speak for themselves."

I think the tapes provided enough context for even a Los Angeles jury to agree that there is wrongdoing.

Blagoavich continues to show a pattern of delusional behavior by suggesting, for example, that he is being impeached for trying to get cheap Canadian drugs for senior citizens in Chicago.

Did President Obama file a FOI yet to find the files the FBI has on him? It would be a good measure of the so called "transparency"
If John Lennon had a file, why wouldn't Barak? I would "imagine" that it could be an interesting test.

Chris S   January 29th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

Blago - get rid of him. I'm tired of seeing his name on the tollways. He's guilty - send him to jail!!!!

Barb   January 29th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

I think this is a set-up deal. He has done alot of good for the lower class. " Who's toes did he step on?" I wonder. They should have waited until the seat was sold and gotten both buyer and seller. And then we would either have the evidence or not. I say keep him.

Willie   January 29th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

What amazes me is how the people of Illinois voted this guy into office for a 2nd term? WOW

Marsha   January 29th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

Rick,

If I were the screenwrite for the Blago movie (and there WILL be one) I would write it as an outright comedy. I can't find any words or actions from him that would support even a remotely credible drama.

CHEVYMAN20   January 29th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

DID ANYONE EVER THINK BLAGO WAS DOING ALL THAT STUFF BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SEE WHO WOULD DO THE CORUPT THING.. HE WANTED TO MAKE SURE HE WASNT BRINGING CURUPTION INTO THE SENATE. ITS ALL TALK , FREE SPEACH HE DID NOTHING CURUPT AT THE END . WE ALL TALK TO GET INFO DOESNT MEAN WE DO IT....

Andrew   January 29th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Blagoavich's problem is not any crime he may or may not have committed with his "valuable position" comments. His biggest problem is that the Attorney General and her father have not like him since he was first elected and especially since he was re-elected. As a former Illinoisian I know they have taken every opportunity to create problems for him since day one.

PT McB   January 29th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

It would be nice to see some shame on Blago's face just once. I think he actually believes his own lies!

Lyle Zoerman   January 29th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

As an employee I can be fired for any or no reason. Blagojevich is an employee, he can be fired for any or no reason. No evidnce is required.

laura   January 29th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Blagojvich, is as innocent, as the rest of the politicians, in Illinoiw, and The White House

gabbylou2002   January 29th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Blago is manic! Media exploitation is victimization of mentally ill.

Fran   January 29th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Springfield needs to hire truckers to haul away all the bull crap Blagojevich spread.

jennifer   January 29th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

what i heard on tapes were vague snippets taken out of context. there have been comments by former prosecutors that they were startingly clear for wire taps. it's possible the evidence was doctored. regardless, "innocent until proven guilty" has not been exercised in this case. i am disgusted by the presumption of guilt and the handling of evidence. i don't believe Blagojevich did anything other than what most politicians do on a daily basis all over the world.

Linda   January 29th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Is this guy so out of touch that he thought we wouldn't notice he didn't address the fact that he tried to shake down the hospital or sell the office of Senator? He can talk about everything from years ago,and go on and on,but when asked by Larry King or Greta about the things he is in trouble for...."Ah,I can't address the specifics of that right now, that will come out at the appropriate time"This guy really needs to be admitted.

Stephen   January 29th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

I believe that the idea that just because we say it on television means they are guilty, has become a national problem. We all know deep down that people take parts of tapes, or emails and display them on television to convince us of a persons guilt. We all know that we are not supposed to judge a person without them having the ability to defend the charges. It was important enough to write into our law, our founding documents, but it does not seem to be important enough in our media. We need to return to telling the story after the conviction, and not before. It does us no good to assume everyone is guilty just because they are charged. It teaches us that the process of guilt is in the media only and not in a court of law.

Patrick   January 29th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

As much as Blago is guilty of being a slime-bag, he is still innocent of any crime. To impeach without a conviction is VERY un-American! I dislike the guy too, but fair is fair. Lock him up first!

EternalReason   January 29th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Governor Rod Blagojevich being ridiculed at every turn by the media does a great injustice to honest unbiased reporting.
Every American must be presumed innocent till proven guity in a fair trial. Blagojevich is being treted unfarily. I hope thisis not a sign of things to come. There is no search for truth or justice just silly snickering by reporters at a man seeking JUSTICE and fair treatment.
Everything he is accused of, based on the evidence presented, was a positive action for the citizens of his state. I for one wish we had more Blagojevichs fighting for the people and for justice. Removing Blagojevich from office IMHO will be gretest injustice ever in American history, second perhaps only to the way we treated the native peoples and slaves.

Julie Cupp   January 29th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

Blago clearly suffers from some form of psychotic grandiosity and it is very scary that someone of this nature ever found himself in public office!!! Somebody get the straight-jacket!

keith   January 29th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

This guy is an Out-right liar! He's consistantly stated he hasn't listened to the tapes. When he was on "the view", he clearly says what he said on the tape. His media "circus". Big mistake. The guy obviously can't keep his mouth shut!

Sharon   January 29th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

It's just typical "politician posturing" no one actually believes a politician has a conscience so why are people so dumbfounded when they show who they really are?

vtmnb40   January 29th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Johnny B   January 29th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Hey t.j I live here in springfield and never once heard of the governer even entering his mansion why should he ever have been in office anyway if he's not going to live in the mansion( boot him out he's gone).

Andy Boley   January 29th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

The govenor is not guilty! Period!! I read the transcripts and nothing stating on them that will lead to his impeachment. If he impeached, he should sue for millions. I am on his side the whole way. This is a sham put on him and if I were him I would fight for my rights. Rights that he has none of. Goodluck Rod!!!!!!

This story about the toy company making dolls in the likeness of the Obama girls.... Why not ask the company to give the proceeds to charity and let the girls pick the charity? Maybe some money will be raised for a good cause. If they refuse hopefully no one will buy the dolls.

the people that believe BLAGO is innocent, are the same people that voted BUSH for a second term. idiots..

effiong   January 29th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

I am still not sure what is going on here. A US Attorney holds a press conference to denounce a sitting Governor of high crimes of the sort that Lincoln would turn over in his grave. Highly sensational but I have not seen evidence of any crime committed by the Governor. When the time came for him to bring charges he said he wants 90 more days. If we could listen in on private conversations of politicians when soliciting for campaign contributions from potential donors with business in front of the Government how would it be that different from Blago's? Sure it turns your stomach, but that is politics and a great argument for public financing of elections. I hope the Illinois Senate does not allow itself to be made a fool of by throwing out an elected Governor on mere accusations. They should delay the vote until after the Governor has been convicted of a crime.

SoloReel   January 29th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Blagojevich is quit verbose but I like him. He didn't commite a crime, it is a criminal complaint and these Chicago politicians are going to throw him out of office. I believe these politicians have something in their own past that they are trying to hide. If I were Rod I would investigate them and throw all their dirty laundy out for everyone to pick over. I hope we see you again Rod, don't let these crooks keep you down for long.

Ben   January 29th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Ken Hahn   January 29th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

I'm sick of people debating over the Blago scandal – the man was on tape attempting to sell a senate seat. Forget "innocent until proven guitly", his guilt is proven. Please, Blago, use your connections to cut a deal so you don't have to go to jail and leave public office forever.

Ignorance is bliss! Reading many of the post here seem to have no resemblance to reality. I hope those willing to destroy a great political leader, willing to FIGHT for his electorate, will themselves face the same type of injustice one day. Fighting for truth and justice used to be the American way but alas it is no longer in vouge. Amusing to see posts claiming "testimony" showing guilt in a case where there has been no testimony. I think a reality check is in order.
This is not a good time to become the laughing stock of the world for treating a governor (or ANYONE) so unjustly.

No Blago's not insane, he's a master con artist and is unethical and unscrupulous, which is not considered a crime that can be tried in court, but can allow him to be impeached.

Betruthful   January 29th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

In regards to Blagojevich. What will be will be for Blago, but at

Blago. There are more crooks in politics, they just don't get caught.
We should have all the Politicians phones tapped, too. That'll clean congress. Have one on the President, too.

The Prime Directive   January 29th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

The news media even gave this guy a name that could be made fun of "Blago". They also tried to hook us with the slogan "no drama Obama". Lately they have been trying to take pot shots at Sarah Palin. I don't support Palin but its not because of all of the foolishness that the media is putting forth. We need some of these cable news shows to just dissappear especially those that offer us opinion instead of verifiable facts.

johnnybgood   January 29th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Your CNN reporter just said the Senate is like a Club, if they dont like the governor, evidence or no evidence, they can kick him out of the Club. Well guess what, the Governor is elected by the PEOPLE, not some Senate Club. I hope Blago wins in court and sues every Senator that voted for his illegal impeachment. The media is a joke. Illinois is a joke. Pat Fitzgerald is a joke, he let the entire Bush administration go scott free except for the patsy Scooter Libby. This is a sham by Fitzgerald to make Obama look bad, but he opened his mouth before a crime was committed. So to save Obama the media and everyone wants to make Blago a patsy like Scooter. Fitzgerald is a joke. He should be fired.

Katherine Zanger   January 29th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

I am from Illinois and this whole situation is just sick. It is true that Gov. Blagojevich was elected twice but outside of Chicago we can't figure out how he kept getting into office. I live outside Springfield and he had tried to avoid it as much as he can. He doesn't even acknowledge that that is the capital of Illinois. Thank you New York for taking him for a few days.
Just to show a little about his character, this summer we had major, devastating flooding going on in our region. Obama took time out of his busy nationwide tour to stop and sandbag with us. Blagojevich barely even ackowledged that most of his state was in crisis. Rod: Please stop you are embarrasing us!

elizabeth   January 29th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

I agree/believe that he did nothing that many politicians don't do all the time but what I cannot abide is how he won't just gracefully concede to the fact that he was caught. I loathe his smug arrogant presumtion that he can b*****it us now. He is so intent on deception in such a vastly public sense that it's pathetic. I truly think he thought he could talk his a** out of this. Thanks for such great coverage of this circus.

Bob P   January 29th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

A bit of news that you won't hear on CNN. When "Hot Rod" was running for governor prior to his first time, he was messing around with the wife of a prominent lawyer named Fredrick Nessler. She got pregnant, and had a child by him. Her and the child were staying at the Governors Mansion in Springfield. That is why his father-in-law, Mell was mad at him, and it is why his wife refused to move to Springfield. This is a subject you can probably easily verify. But it has no bearing on the current proceedings. It just shows the readers here that this man has no moral values and will do or say anything to get what he wants.

Carla McBeath   January 29th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Rod Blagojevich had to be tough to survive in Chicago politics. But impeachment needs to be the result of behavior that is light years more than being tough, even controversial. I knew him in law school as a basically good guy who worked hard and had a great sense of humor. I admire him and support him for standing up to what looks like unethically slanted news reporting (et tu CNN) and a legislature that wants to draw attention away from itself. He wants the evidence to be the focus, not undefined allegations and innuendos. I agree with him. If Rod goes down in the flames of uninformed public opinion, without the legislature meeting a very very high burden of proof, Illinois will have damaged its own infrastructure, perhaps permanently.

Ben   January 29th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Im sick of hearing about Blago, give him the boot

SouthernNJmom   January 29th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

I want to know ALL the People involved in this impeachment trial! I will NEVER vote for any of them!! Leave Blagojevich alone, he is an honest man and that's why "They hate him". He would try and do right for the people. Haven't we ALL been taught enough, that most people in Government lie, cheat and are only in it for themselves, well? He's not lieing, and that's why they won't give him a fair trial. He won't jump into their trap. They would just point fingers at him, with out witnesses, if he could not prove why he said what was said. It would be out of context. How many things have any of you said ,that if they were taken out of context, and with out even knowing if it was an on going joke or something, that with out ALL the facts it could look or sound riddled and wrong. I am sick and tired of the media pushing their agenda. They have already convicted him and yet, he has NEVER been able to have important people above him speak for him under order!

Brian   January 29th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Here is my problem with this.
I live in Chicago.
Does this mean that if I vote for a govenor, and the other people I did not vote for don't like him and want to remove him from office, and replace with someone nobody voted for, they can do so?
This is a VERY sad day. It doesn't matter if he did those things or not, the state is reversing all the votes from the people of Illinois because they don't "like" the way he does bussiness.
He should have had a ciminal trial 1st.

I say we vote the ALL OUT of office ASAP!!!

mochachocalate   January 29th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Freedom of speech, innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.great laws. I think the media should keep all the opinionated reporting out. media should respect the rights of others when they are exercising their right "freedom of speech." shouldn't everyone of us be protected by our laws and respect it. REPORT THE NEWS. Let those that maybe charged EXERCISE THIER RIGHTS let them have their day in court, without the media and thier panels analizing and disecting a person promoting a person guilty. Remember ! INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

linda chavez   January 29th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

I believe that Governor Blognojevich has a right to state his case with
facts and a fair trial. It seems to me that someone has another alternative to oust him and implicate our President. The ones who should be on trial and in jail are the investors who have robbed people of their retirements and investments. Remember when you
showed in the news when Former President George W. Bush told the
public to invest in investment corporations when he was trying to get rid of social security???? Well, alot of people did, and there was this
scared tactic which made people feel that their retirements were going to be messed with, this happened in the first term of George
W. Bush,,,H-E-L-L-O!

SouthernNJmom   January 29th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

We do NOT know what he could be thinking, so for all we know this story could be very innocent and he may be doing more than most men would do.

Bridget   January 29th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

SouthrenNJmom: New Jersey may have a more corrupt government than Illinois, but after having 4 IL governors go to jail, well, us Illinoisans are just sick of it. We want an actual honest person to lead our state.

SouthernNJmom   January 29th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

I am so glad in our Country, there are those who still believe in innocents until proven guilty. We need to start grouping together, so we can work in numbers to STOP the injustice that is going on in America. This is really crazy, I can not believe how our Country has change for the worse in just a few short years! I have heard everything the media can force me to watch, and yet, I believe he is innocent until proven in a Court of Law, with witnesses, that this is not so. As far as selling the Seat, he'll take down some big people on this one, If they tell the truth, I can taste it! This is a reason for the Senators to push they way they are. Also, they like who they want in HIS SEAT! People have lost their voice!

SouthernNJmom   January 29th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

YOU HAD ONE AND YOU ALL ARE LETTING HIM GO>>LOL>>
The "others" want him out, so THEY can control the Governers Seat!
Give him a chance to be proven innocent... it's American.

Susan Owens   January 29th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

Some commentator doesn't know that Blago NEVER moved to Springfield by choice, so he doesn't have to move. He has always lived in Chicago!

robin larson   January 29th, 2009 4:49 pm ET

regarding hard faces and the description of blago; i have been watching our lovely senators debating the health and welfare of our children and women in general for the past week; at the age of 49 with two grown daughters and two grown sons "these" people and i use the term lightly scare the hell out of me. they are our hope? put me back in 1970 because the dribble is the same. by the by did any news media catch Senator Martinez from Florida catch his performance this week in regarding women on the senate floor? no, i didn't think so. but you all had to speak about RUSH. And we wonder why the world thinks so little of us.

SouthernNJmom   January 29th, 2009 6:11 pm ET

Well, he was proven guilty by those who accused him, he was never given the ability to prove himself innocent. How UnAmerican!!! I am truly embarrassed to be an American! What a lie it is, that the People Pick our government. Illinois never knew of some of the things their Governor did to help them. Guess, they will be real happy with this NEW Senate picked Governor. He will do exactly as the Gov. Officials want. I wouldn't trust him... Let's see what happens now.

Michael Luna   January 30th, 2009 2:14 am ET

Matt   January 30th, 2009 8:28 am ET

I agree if they are truly guilty...... I have not heard any testomony except the criminal charges. I have only heard the tapes the prosecutors allow and I am appalled that everyone in the media and the senate has already convicted a U.S. citizen without a fair trial. Is it even possible for Blagojevich to have a fair trial? Since everyone seems to have a strong opinion about his innocence. I blame the media mostly, and then I blame the prosecutors for releasing information that has not been proven. I am very proud to be an American. But I am not proud of the fact that my countrymen do not follow the American guidelines of innocent until proven guilty.

Bridget   January 30th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

Blagojevich had three days to appear before the Senate and prove his innocence. He chose to go gallavanting around New York instead, waiting until the last day, during closing arguments, to say it was unfair that he didn't get a chance to provide his side. He had the chance, though. One day one and day two. Sometimes I guess it takes three days to come up with some good lies though.

Maria   January 30th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

About having a "Hard Face" ... Blagojevich and others seemingly like him, I don't think they DO have a conscience, thus they CAN'T show anything on their face ... thus "Hard Face". They are an embarrassment to the people they are supposed to serve. I am from Idaho where the Senator pleaded guilty to soliciting sex in a men's bathroom ... and then says he didn't do it. Are we supposed to believe that? Who in their right mind would plead guilty to something they didn't do? Oh, yeah ... they AREN'T in their 'right mind'. - TC from Idaho

No one seems clear on how many companies and executive that received bail-out monies will come under the new regulation. No one is defining "exceptional" in their proposals.

Now we find out that there are no regulations against jets, parties, etc. It is all about transparency.

As the little old lady suggested, "WHERE IS THE TEETH?"

Ram Jam   February 4th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

F. The Banks, they rob everybody with those high fees and they are charging 33.00 per bounce check.. Let them drown

Christopher   February 4th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

740 credit score, $16K/month. Told we didn't have sufficient income for a property purchase. If we don't qualify who does? Start lending!

Bill   February 4th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Do the math. How many jobs per minute in political debate are lost as opposed to action being taken. I agree not to initiate a plan without a clear objective. But we put the politicians in Washington there to do a job for us, the voteres. Not to satify or save thier own political gains.

Christopher   February 4th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Wells Fargo is full of it! They cut my business LOC from $25K to $500. NO late payments. Citibank froze my $100K LOC...neither gave an explanation. NO late payments, and a customer for years! They're not helping customers, they're killing the economy! I'm having to fire people.

donald wooters   February 4th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

does curious1966 do anything else except to see how many of their comments are on your show day after day everyday?

norma grunwald   February 4th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Obama is a hypocrite, says how he disapproved how the banking/investment has wasted tarp money, goverment wastes much more of our money and that's ok

Ron   February 4th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

I’m Canadian so we don’t have these problems... With a majority in the senate, why doesn’t your president put his foot down and just DO what he knows needs to be done?
Ron in Ottawa

Milton   February 4th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Rick:
My family and I own a small business. The responsibility and success of our business is only due to our own hard work and following the rules with honest intent to obey the laws. There is no bailout for us in this failing economy.
All of the CEO's that are getting bonuses for failure should and must be let go and separated from all Public Tax Money. CEO, in many cases, is just another name for CON nowadays!
Talent, and business savy measured as success for all employess, the shareholders, producing competative products and services for customers and making sure that all laws are adheared to makes for a successful CEO.

Gayle Cowley   February 4th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Give Obama credit he is doing somethings that hasn't been done in years and that's getting republicans and democrats to work together. Don't think he didn't know what was in the stimlus bill it's part of his plan to get Washington to work together.

annie   February 4th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

I thoroughly support Obama's initiatives on the economy and strongly feel that the Republicans are being obstructionist. The proposed spending is not "pork" – the vast majority of projects will not only stimulate the economy but also build a green economy, infrastructure, health care, and so on – all desperately necessary projects. For goodness sake, let common sense prevail and let us get our stimulus package. PLEASE!!!

Christopher   February 4th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

The bottom line is that banks are not lending to ANYONE...why aren't we talking about this?

carrie   February 4th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

i really find it very direspectful and unprofessional the way you and evry one else it seems in the media address our president when speaking of him. he is president obama or mr president i cannot for the life of me recall any other president that has held the highest office in the country be called by his first and last name, his first name, or just his last name it has always been president______ or mr president. you and all of your media people need to make a conscious effort to start doing this it is funny how you are making sure to address senators, governors, and even mayors by their title do the same for OUR PRESIDENT.

Lisa   February 4th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Yo tenga una cara dura. Blago tines la cara sin verguenza.

annie   February 4th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

I cannot believe the stupid, irrelevant questions asked by the press corps of Gibbs today. For crying out loud in a bucket, who cares if Daschle had to drop out – get over it. We have a tanking economy and need a stimulus package!!! Get your priorities right and stop wasting Gibb's time.

melanie cournoyer   February 4th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Rick Sanchez would be a better fit for Showbiz Tonite. He is too sensational. Calm down.

annie   February 4th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

If banks are going to take TARP money, YES – they need to accept conditions and NO this is not communism – it's COMMON SENSE. Would you give money away to a bunch of losers and not put some conditions??

Peter   February 4th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Rick President Obama needs to put a real name on the second half of the bailout Not TARP because that worked well in the first half ,a tarp is made to cover up things, And guess what ! banks did a good job covering up what they were and are spending it on SAD SAD I say let them fail and give the smaller banks a hand up to become a bigger better bank.

donRoberto   February 4th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

C'MON RICARDO, NOW YOU ARE KNOCKING THE PREZ FOR TAKING A STRONG "BULLY" STAND AGAINST THE BANKS...ITS MY MONEY (TXAES) AND I FEEL THE SAME WAY AS THE PREZ...YES!!...KICK A....!!

annie   February 4th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Gibbs does a fine job – it's the press corp that is lacking. Their questions are pathetic! They need to get their priorities right: Daschle withdrawing is NOT a big deal; the stimulus IS.

Shauna Holahan   February 4th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Rick, What about the rating agencies and wall street analysts? They are clearly not blameless here. The rating agencies need to be put in check. The rating agencies should have addressed many of the issues we are currently facing with so many companies, by putting them on watch-lists downgrading them etc. The analysts dropped the ball.

Dave   February 4th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Common sense IS what is needed and NOT socialist experimentation with the
economy. The economy will fix itself without government throwing money at
it. How is sending taxpayer's money to people who pay NO taxes going to
boost the economy?

Gibbs is spewing rhetorical nonsense!

horace   February 4th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Has CEO come to mean Covet Every Opportunity? Just Wondering. Horace

Bill   February 4th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

I didn't see where Obama said that the Potiticians salary be capped or the there would be a probe on Manufactures on raising cost more than they should. we the people are getting screwed more every day by the Goverment and the rich.

Audrey   February 4th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

How can the americans expect to have a president change a country deep in debt and drama change it in a few days.
How do they expect to have this country run the same way taking huge salaries while in a recession and think oh the government will provide it is there problem.
I have my own business and if I don't have income I cannot pay my employees. If i do that I have no conscience and is that what americans think is moral?
This has nothing to do with communisme but with practical thinking.
Americans don't come accross smart and this shows. you try to build up but get crushed by your own dumb people. Morals are missing too
Sorry I live in Miami and became american but their thinking is unrealistic and dumb

NM Young   February 5th, 2009 10:03 am ET

CNN is becoming more and more out of touch and increasingly engage in pop meaningless media hype. Today CNN ran a story that Washington DC is recession proof because of the large number of lobbying firms. As a person who has lost their job in DC and know of more than a dozen other individuals in my circle of friends who are in a similar circumstances, I find this story ridiculous and insulting. If CNN had done their homework they would realize that lobbyist only represent a small portion of the DC workforce. Start doing your research, provide substance not fluff, and report real news.

Bob   February 5th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Mr Sanchez is a great announcer. However, I for one am sick and tired of Mr Sanchez asking a question to a guest, then cutting off the guest before the he/she finishes responding, then answering the question himself. Please advise him to ask his question, but let the guest fully respond and to stop getting getting so excited on the air. When he does the above, I loose interest and become very annoyed by his actions and switch channels. Thank you....Bob.

Carolyn Hicks   February 5th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Until today CNN has been by news network of choice ( the best political team on TV) .
I am currently "Fighting" cancer for the second time. I can tell you that
80% of the fight is mental, so when I hear Rick and Kyra report the
the news about our Supreme Court Justice current fight and include
in that report that she has the deadlist form of cancer, I can only pray
she does not wake up from surgery and hear that report. Where is
your compassion, certainly the story could have been reported without
that sound-bite. I have heard you guys say some pretty heartless thing before, today I'm fed up.
Carolyn

james james   February 5th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Rick I find that a lot of republicans refer to President Obama as Mr. Obama, Sen.Obama etc. No respect. Whats worst, Mrs. Obama won't call him the Presdent, it's my husmand or Barack Obama that comes out of her mouth.
Mrs. Bush always said the President when speaking of Mr. Bush.

Betsey   February 5th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Fire the SEC and put Elliott Spitzer in charge; he loves that stuff & he needs a job. . .

Beatriz Piza   February 5th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

From Costa Rica, seeing the program today and the impact that the US has on 2nd and 3rd world countries as mine, I deeply hope the US embraces this crisis as THE opportunity to SHIFT TOWARDS A HISTORICAL CHANGE...
This might be its ONLY chance to reinvent itself, to clean house, to change and improve institutions and organizations, because there are just too many countries depending and directly affected by its actions and policies.

Mike   February 5th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Rick have been on wall st for 35years. I am in legal and compliance. The SEC has no experience people. They are inept!

Elizabeth   February 5th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Ashley Judd is simply trying to resurrect her A-list status and career in Hollywood, after a recent lack-luster run in Hollywood, by attacking Sarah Palin because she is the wolf in sheep's clothing. Shameful publicity stunt!

Joyce Woods   February 5th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

I read what looked almost exactly like what I'd told my husband the other day: "I wouldn't be surprised if Cheney will hire someone to attack us, just so he can say "I told you so!" I think he is evil. We hardly ever saw him when he was in office, but now he decides to talk to us!

Jerry Harris   February 5th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Rick, Etta James may say what she wants but if my memory serves me I think Glenn Miller wrote the song. And Chaney is a worthless jerk , if he and shrug Bush had not lied to the Ameican people we wouldn't be in this mess we're in now. Chaney, Bush and their thugs made millions of the blood of our soldiers and now the piece of S-t is making a lot of statements that just shows how sorry the man is.

Tony Larue   February 5th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Ric,

I wonder what the former Vice Prez has in mind. Please tell President Obama not to go hunting with him.

chipndale   February 5th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

C,mon Rick Gibbs! Enough with all the ah, ah, ah, uh uh!

Kirk   February 5th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

I cannot say it any better than it was said in a scene from the movie "The American President" Chaney is clearly someone who just doesn't get it; who says he loves America and hates Americans. He has totally failed to grasp the basic civics lesson that actor Michale Douglas delivers so eloquently in that scene. Chaney should be happy that I and others are not the ones holdingt office, He would be tops on the list to be handed over to the World Court for war crimes trials. I also am thoroughly convinced that he is corrupt in terms of his dealings between the government and Halliburton.

Pam   February 5th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Rick, why do you and some of the other reporters on CNN continue to call President Obama just "Obama" or "Barack Obama"? He is our President of the United States and should be referred to as President Obama.

Michael J Amato   February 5th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Employee Free Choice act must never be passed! Please do not take away one of the greatest American rights; the secret ballot. It has been a practice in electing everyone, from a high school student office, to the most powerful office in the world; the oval office.

matthew   February 6th, 2009 12:21 am ET

I sometimes take time out of my time and wonder where, what, when, how, to what extent about this country of ours. I mean, the political fallout that I think is happening is such a by product of what people would do to make themsleves look good. he said she said, sometimes they said, is really getting old. I believe Rick, this country is only going to get worse. Our government is only sugar coating the policies and what this country was founded on. There's too much going on in our country today than what we know. When I get to thinking more about it, I just turn on the tube what we call the t.v. and turn on CNN and listen to whats going on at that very moment. Our country is turning for the worse and it's only the sign of the times. We the people should rise up and speak and bring this country back where it was founed on. God is and always will be my provider and not this government. There will be one day a New World Order and there will be one who will bring everything together and make it better and look good for all. The problems we face as a Nation will only get worse day by day. There's a trend forming and we can't stop it by sugar coating and adding to the problem. It's suppose to happen like this and there's nothing nobody can do to stop whats going on. Our country was founded my men who believed in God and our government is taking it as a threat to them and to the people of this Nation. My prayers are with you and the rest of the media to bring the truth and bring everything out in the open, so we can expose whats really behind all this big mess. We can sit around the table and point the fingers and blame everyone involved but we are the ones to blame for putting these well dressed figures in positions that I think dont deserve to be there at all. Keep up the good work Rick and rest of the CNN crew that brings the news as it comes, and boy, it's coming faster than ever. God Bless

Peter   February 6th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Rick do a poll asking ,, Do you think the Republicans are fighting this package on Republican Goals or the Goals of the people (constituents ) I vote On Republican Goals

Pam   February 6th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Rick, you continue to refer to our President as Barack Obama instead of President Obama. What is your problem? Today I heard you refer to the previous President as George Bush. Even if we don't agree with our President on some of the issues, he still should be afforded the respect that is due him.

Robert Rao   August 3rd, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Mr. Sanchez, this is about private medicare, My doctor gave me a percription for a folding cane, I have Humana medicare, I have benfits for a folding cane, however humana say they don't have a pervider in my area so they renegate on my policy.
