Rick,

I like your program but why don´t you ask American people the following question : Shouldn´t we as American demand the removal of George Bush´s daily CIA briefings because he did provoke terrorists ¨to bring it on¨ and we dont want him to undermine Bush nor have a semblence of a residual attack because of his words. If I said that the government woud investigate me. No double standards.

Ask that question please!

President Barack Obama to the world

jlott   January 22nd, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I can't believe I didn't vote for Pres Obama.I doubt I'd be feeling as good as I do. He's is reinventing politics the way we know it. Its like a new pair of socks it just feels right!

NurseVi   January 22nd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

This is an issue that has been discussed for a very long time..The prior administration only talked about it, the New administation is actually doing something about it. However, let's give this administation a CHANCE to resolve this issue as well as the Economic Issue's that face this Nation..They were not created overnight, nor will the be resolved overnight...At least we are out of the quicksand.....

McClifford   January 22nd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Hello My name is McClifford, I would like to say something, Please pay attention to the last statement that President Obama stated: That the UNITED STATES will not torture. President Obama talking about the future, he don't know what his predecesor did before him, but he's talking about him. Dont get it twisted guys, you all know what he meant. So let's not focus on the past if we really need change.

Milagro Castillo   January 22nd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

I'm getting really concerned about the tone of CNN reporters and how they pursue their questions. I'm talking about all of these so called team of experts that simply voice their opinions, but don't have the guts to provide answers. A prime example today was the questioning of the new Communications Secretary. Give me a break!!! this government is only two days old and already your reporters are bitching!!! They seem to pick at every little word looking for mistakes so that they can justify to the world that they found something WRONG! Come on CNN, get some reporters with experience to ask RELEVANT QUESTIONS.

Gaby L   January 22nd, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Can't interrogators give the detainees alcohol so that they confess the truth? "in Vino Veritas" And since muslims most often do not drink, it should work quite well.

sarah   January 22nd, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Hi Rick,

Oh HAPPY DAY! As the sun has risen since January 20th, I feel our entire Nation is taking a shower to cleanse our country of the detriment done to us by Bush.

Sarah

No such thing as a war on terror. Terrorism is a tactic not an enemy. We have been throwing this around like it was the Soviets. You can not fight terror. You fight the enemy that is using it.

Leah   January 22nd, 2009 3:59 pm ET

You know....... I was watching Clinton and Obama address the State Dept and I was very bothered. Why isn't Barack Obama being addressed as President Barack Obama ? Instead of it being Clinton and Obama addressing the State Dept it should have been President Barack Obama and Clinton address the State Dept. I just feel like the man has won the race and he is President and it should be apart of his title just like it was for any other President.

John Tate   January 22nd, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Rick-
It would be respectful of you to refer to the President, as President Barack Obama. I noticed on your show today that you are addressing our President as "Barack Obama."

Please show the President the respect that he deserves.

francis   January 22nd, 2009 4:04 pm ET

i like to know what about torture on prisions on usa, everiday this happen

Amilha   January 22nd, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Hey Rick
Why is everyone making such a fuss about that second oath?? Its clear that Obama became President at 12.00noon 20 January – oath or no! We have so much else to focus on. Please!!

Paula   January 22nd, 2009 4:12 pm ET

Rick you lied when your show ended today. President Obama said "We WILL NOT torture. " You said, he said " we will NO LONGER torture.

Cara King   January 22nd, 2009 4:17 pm ET

President Barack Obama, what a truly inspiring man with such common morals as many Americans. When President Obama addressed the world on inuaguration day and said that we are the reason for the hope and change to rebuild our America. I would like to thank President Barack Obama for reinstilling in us the hope for change in America after so many let downs!!! We owe this change to our future our children and President Barack Obama will be that change!! Thank you!!! "Yes we can and Yes we will!!" Bring on the changes!!!

SumterSc   January 22nd, 2009 4:21 pm ET

I like your show Mr. Sanchez but please give the due respect to our new president and address him as President Obama instead of Obama. Thank you so much sir.

Helen   January 22nd, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Speaking as a peace-loving Canadian I couldn't be more proud and thrilled about President Obama and his Administration. The world has waited 'with baited breath' for the arrival of one as honest, courageous, decisive and humanitarian as the new President. He's a 'Rockstar', and so is Madame Secretary Hillary Clinton.

richard perez   January 22nd, 2009 4:35 pm ET

Rick , i enjoy your show and watch every day . you are a pro keep up the the good work

Julia   January 22nd, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Today, rather this morning in your show, there was a discussion about an Exceutive order regarding torture in Gitmo or any other US prison.

Obama said very clearly that the definition of torture in specified in the US Military manual. People can drag this on for the sake of dragging but have we forgotten 'Water Boarding'...What short memories...

MADOFF, NORMAN HSU, PONZI SCHEMES   January 22nd, 2009 5:01 pm ET

Re: Ponzi Schemes and Madoff – What happened to convicted Ponzi scammer, Norman Hsu? Did he go to prison? Where? In New York or California? More info on Madoff and how to avoid Ponzi schemes as well please!

paul burns   January 22nd, 2009 5:02 pm ET

i suggest they send all the prisoners from gitmo to TEXAS.

Lisa   January 22nd, 2009 5:04 pm ET

I understand and respect our NEW President when he says we have to change our way of thinking and how we are living our lives, I agree!! I just WISH the news reoprters would have heard it, come on, the BEST we do is worry about who took a picture or reported on the RE DO of the oath?? Come on, get over it, he is doing so much, I WANT to hear about!

Robert Williams   January 22nd, 2009 5:05 pm ET

Too bad Sanchez cannot claim he does research. Just to set the record straight, John Cornyn was not a US Senator when there were questions about Dick Cheney's relationship with Haliburton. He was the Texas Attorny General.

It's okay Sanchez, never let the facts get in the way of your arguments.

John   January 22nd, 2009 5:13 pm ET

Rick, thanks for continuing to do such a great job. Now, that, that's out the way. Everyone wants to focus on the "Bail Out" especially the upcoming call for a stimulus. I want to know what's happening to the "Stimulus" that we continue to hand out by way of "Cash in Iraq and Afganistan. Rick,Please Deal With It. The American people want to know

Lisa   January 22nd, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Lets all get along, get over it and Get GOING! We as a nation deserve it.

richard wainwright   January 22nd, 2009 5:27 pm ET

Watching all the Senators welcome Hillary Clinton and the New State Department crew be announced was inspiring . . . but haven't we heard all the rhetoric before? Isn't this the same group of Senators that just voted 100% for the war crimes that just occurred inside the Gaza "concentration camp" and the same group that voted for the Iraq war and the same group of Senators that set up the financial debacle we are now living with? So now they are congratulating themselves on what exactly? Woop 'D Doo. Hope for change is just the same old guy putting on a new suit.

Patrick   January 22nd, 2009 6:54 pm ET

Rick, can you possibly be any more biased againt Conservatives? Please? Just come out and say it already without getting your guests to say it for you. Take responsibility and ownership for your beliefs without dishing the responsibility on someone else!

aby   January 22nd, 2009 8:32 pm ET

It's so frustrating to sit here and read these ignorant comments. Obama (and no, I don't call him President because it turns my stomach to even think it, let alone say it) is a disaster for this country. It doesn't matter what his skin color is, he's a raging liberal hungry for the power a huge government would bring Democrats. His agenda is to make as many Americans as possible dependant on government handouts. He's already quoted as saying the government is the only entity that can get us out of these hard economic times. What a crock!! I agree with Rush... I want him to fail. For the sake of this countrys future, I want Obama to crash and burn in a big way. Maybe then we can get back to personal responsibility... success to the hardest workers... freedom and opportunity seperate from government control. Two examples of why I despise Obama.... he's already hired liars, tax cheats and lobbyists for his cabinet, one day after proclaiming his administration 'ethical' and 'lobbyist free'. And, while describing his own Executive Order to the press, he had to turn to his lawyer Greg Craig because Obama didn't even know what was in it. I'd laugh if it wasn't so desperately sad.
One more thing, Rich Sanchez, you know full well what Rush meant when he made those comments. By asking if Rush wants the 'country' to fail, you've just proven how much of a bottom feeder drive-by you are.

Hermano Ricardo:

I lament that you and CNN are not reporting the continued siege on Gaza.
I bear witness that it is designed to starve the Gazans into anger against Hamas, so they would out of despair kill Hamas members and choose Fatah.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan etc... don't want to support Hamas, because business interactions with the US would be such that those nations would lose money.

If Fatah wants power, it must provide what the Palestinians need; namely, land, ending the expansion of settlements and even seeing to it that the land is divided to pre 1967 configuration and seeing to it that there is no separation of Mosque and State.

nic   January 23rd, 2009 6:09 am ET

Dear sir,
I just saw your comments directed at "Joe the plumber" via the internet today.
As most europeans, the last couple of years, I have been very worried about war-journalism and its independance and objectivity in America.
I know one bird does not a summer make, but I -and probably a lot of other people- was pleasantly supprised by our comments.
Apperently there is still hope for "professional" and neutral journalism in the States. All you guys need to do now is get out of the "embedded reporter"-system.
Thank you for your statements.
Nico

Hayford   January 23rd, 2009 8:09 am ET

Rick, i know this has nothing to do with your topic.. but i can not pass up the opportunity....

It is now known that the Gaza Attack /War was planned way in advance even before Israel signed the Cease Fire... Even the Israelis themselves no longer dispute it, Yet pundit upon pundit on American media Keep blaming Hamas for the violence.... and I don't see or hear the so called free press challenging that assertion

How is that any different from the press in Cuba your homeland.. the one you despise so much?

Of what use is a free press, if that free press is just going to push lies on the people.?

Hayford   January 23rd, 2009 8:33 am ET

Rick this morning i watched a program on CNN AM, claiming that a former detainee has returned to terror..... Now the article itself was not shocking but it was the analysis made by the so called political analyst was the shocker...

The Analysis does not make any mention of the treatment these guys have received at the hands of their captors in Guantanamo.........

If a person has been subjected to Torture, sorry I mean harsh interrogation techniques.. Do you really expect the person to go home and warship those who tortured him? Some people will forgive their torturers but not all of them.. and it was this analysis that was missing in the mornings Report... but then again there is an interest to present the news that way....

Joe Berrios - queens, ny   January 23rd, 2009 3:07 pm ET

after fifteen years at the bank of ny, I was laid off. I wasn't the only one but that fact didn't make my experience any easier. when are we going to see an improvement ij the job market?

Rick-

IT'S President Obama!

Ricardo S.   January 23rd, 2009 3:10 pm ET

I am EXTREMELY satisfied with Obama's rigor and pace. WOW!!! As soon as he took is hand off the Bible, he grabbed his pen, assembled his team and went to work! My man!

Sammons   January 23rd, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Rick,

So far, so good. The Commander in Chief has done more in four days then some in Congress have done their entire career on Capitol Hill. He has made an effort to bridge the gaps in every area of governing this country. His cabinet looks more like the United States of America, and his attitude is that of inclusiveness. He is smart enough to know that he doesn't know everything but most of all he listens.

Neil McKay   January 23rd, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Rick – How the hell are the high-priced financial area executives getting away with what amounts to theft of shareholder funds and extravagant purchase of items that cannot be worth the price paid by any measure of value? Imagine – $37,000.00 for the crapper! Must be a wonderful feeling to use the same. How long are the American public going to put up with this before they start the American Revolution (Part 2)?

Robert   January 23rd, 2009 3:11 pm ET

I am a great fan but find that you never mention Haiti which is right next door and festering with misery and disease.

If nothing is done something will happen and when it does, it will hurt.

Robert Hamilton   January 23rd, 2009 3:12 pm ET

How'd he do? The american people will have to wait to find out from the UNHOLY TRINITY of BOTTOM FEEDERS, (Reporters, Congress and Lawyers) to be told what we should believe

Sammons   January 23rd, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Rick,

By the way it is President Obama. Whether we like it or not, it's a matter of respect. So please let us respect one another and govern ourselves accordingly.

David Carter, Art Historian, Appraiser   January 23rd, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Dear Rick,
The work "Commode" is a term we use to describe a chest of drawers.
The phrase "night commode" is a later Victorian term used to describe a piece of furniture enclosing a chamber pot.
It has since been used used to describe a toilet.
In the case of John Thain redecorating his offices at Merrill Lynch, the "commode" in question is a chest of drawers, not a toilet.
Best regards,
David Carter

Nana   January 23rd, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Rick,

It is high time you started reffering to Barrack Obama as "PRESIDENT OBAMA". The grace period is over. Thanks.

Nana

lmjohnson   January 23rd, 2009 3:19 pm ET

First off Rick, LOVE THE SHOW! People are quick to judge on the presidents' progress GIVE HIM A BREAK its only been 4 days!

Tom   January 23rd, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Rick, The COMMODE that John Thain bought is not what Mr. Crapper gave us a hundred years ago. It is actually a piece of furniture that one uses to display nick-knacks. Not something you sit on and ponder a solution to economic problems.

FORDMAN8970   January 23rd, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Gilliband is an imposter! She will not be of help to the democrats in 2010. She will give it up to Peter King, am I the only one that noticed Peter Kings biggest backer standing right behind Gilliband at the podium today. That was Alphonse D'Amato, the most dispised Senator in NY history. Why is the media so blind to this hypocrisy. Even Obama was unaware of this ploy....he's got a lot to learn

Alberto   January 23rd, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Hi

SHIP ALL TO ALCATRAZ PRISON. HARD TO GET OUT OF THEIR.
IT'S NOT IN ANY STATE, AND EASY TO KEEP THEM PUT.

Ellis   January 23rd, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Rick. I've noticed that since the election and subsequent swearing in of Prisident Barack Obama that you and many members of the media call him Obama when reporting on his actions. I also notice that even after former President George Bush has left office no one calls him Bush. When are media reporters and TV show hosts going to begin respecting the man by reporting on him at President Barack Obama or President Obama?

Margaret Swihart   January 23rd, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Blago needs to saddle up his horse and ride out of Chicago.
He truely is babbling!

Terry   January 23rd, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Blagojevich should be allowed to challenge and call witnesses

I think pres. Obama is doing a great job!! I hope he knows that not just Detroit is hoping for help, but all of Michigan needs help!! Ever since NAFTA our state has been care for families, and they can dodge clean air laws among other enviormental laws. The out come was ahandfull of poeple got very rich and the state of Msending american jobs over sees so the big wigs dont have to pay workers competetive wages, health ichigan and the rest of America got poorer.

charlotte   January 23rd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

loved you Rick as a newscaster in South Florida. What well is Blagojevich drinking out of? Cowboys, Irish poets? Does he realize he is making himself more of a joke. He should spend his time trying to help himself and not act like a victim. Palin anyone?

joan williams   January 23rd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

if i do wrong can i go on tv and tell my side of the story!

cheryl   January 23rd, 2009 3:29 pm ET

I think President Obama is getting right down to the business of straightening up this mess we are in. He is a very fair man and will make a world of positive difference. When he speaks I feel the passion that he not only have for democrats but for all people of every nation. I know we are in good hands. Rick, you are a good guy and I know President Obama is a down to earth kind of guy, but can you please put a handle on his name when you speak of him; he is President Obama and need to be referred to as such.

tunitedfa77   January 23rd, 2009 3:29 pm ET

I am very upset that Blagojevich is wasting precious air-time with THIS foolishness. He needs to give it up! He made his bed and he should just lie in it!

Terry   January 23rd, 2009 3:29 pm ET

I believe Obama is off to a good start. I hope he is allowed to do what is right for the country rather then be forced into a political corner by the GOP

nicole albrecht   January 23rd, 2009 3:30 pm ET

The very wise people of the United States elected President Barack Obama as President. He then appointed Senator Hilary Clinton as Secretary of State. The world heaved a great sigh of relief as these people represent what is best for the whole world, not just the United Sattes of Ameraca. From a Canadian Korean war veteran.

sagien   January 23rd, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Why is Blago still on TV?! His 15 minutes is over, nobody cares.

Lawrence Potyondi   January 23rd, 2009 3:32 pm ET

I'm Canadian. Maybe "Blago" needs to present his facts... Let's see if government can be transparent... I think this guy should be given a chance...Eh!!!

Keith   January 23rd, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Blago does a good job coming to his own rescue and he make a pretty good argument

Eric N   January 23rd, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Hey, Blago just said that he saved Illinois all that money but he wants them to spend a lot more on a trial when he knows that he is guilty? Where's the smarts in that?

Prairie Winds   January 23rd, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Why is CNN wasting the Public's time with Blagojevich? It's senseless, but maybe this is typical CNN continuing as usual. Get some legitimate news, not garbage. Thank you.

Violet Ingrum   January 23rd, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Joel From L.A.   January 23rd, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Obama is Doing a fine job any president that starts his cabinet before his inaguration is showing promise. As For The Work he's doing so far he's keeping promise. Now some are scared with the Gitmo Closing but thats the President Decision We all have To Back Up the Presidents decision I think the outcome will be great in the end and All Promise will be fulfilled and the World will definetly be a better place Change is here America we Will be United We are The United States Of America Go Barack Go. CNN I Love Yall the Best.

Steve   January 23rd, 2009 3:34 pm ET

It is readily apparent that the soon to be ex-gov does not understand the difference between an indictment and an inpeachment, nor a court trial and a senate trial. If all but one in the House voted to impeach, and the Senate clearly will remove him from office, does he not understand that EVEN if he is innocent in the criminal trial, he is incapable of governing. If he is looking for an insanity defense at trial he has surely found one.

Dave   January 23rd, 2009 3:34 pm ET

When he took the office of Governor He did not know he could be impeached. Give me a break

Dan   January 23rd, 2009 3:35 pm ET

What the Sam Hill is the purpose of this so-called news conference? This guy, Blagojevich has been blabbing for some time now and I still haven't figured out it's purpose other than his whining.

sagien   January 23rd, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Oh my god. Turn this crap off. I want to hear about the Pakistan missle strikes and foreign policy.

Those two things are IMPORTANT. Blago is just an idiot who needs to go away.

Stop giving him attention. He's a waste of our time.

L. Edwards   January 23rd, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Hi Rick,
Why are CNN Reporters & Anchors, constantly calling President Obama, Barack or Obama. But George Bush ( who should be impeached) is President Bush???

The only one who even tries to say President Obama, is Anderson Cooper, even correcting himself when he says Obama, to say President Obama.

The rest of you don't even seem to try. I like watching you try to every day, but this has to be said.

Blago's real crime is that while Bush and Cheney were setting up their cronies (Big Oil, Halliburton and Wall Street) to be able to steal hundreds of billions of dollars from us, Blago went for the short end and tried to make off with a mere half a million!

Kc Ajir   January 23rd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Hey Rick
Been following you since you were here in South Florida
on WSVN. I just have a brief question that I've sent in
to CNN before but never have seen any result.
Now that we have a new President that pledges transparency
and accountability - answer me this - Why has there been next to
ZERO comments or coverage except on 60 Minutes reguarding the (At last count)
12 to 15 BILLION DOLLARS of TAXPAYERS CASH Missing in Bagdad. Nor has there been any more coverage reguarding the Multiple Fraud investgations going on there by the GAO?
Please, Please follow up on this. It would seem to me and many I have discussed it with, to be an IMPORTANT ISSUE !!!!

Thank YOU
Kc

fairjoe   January 23rd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Tthis is better than a hollywood script. Blago will have a "wonderful life" because he can articulate his case. Regardless of the allegations, he deserves a fair trial !!! He has become a sympathetic national figure.

Ken in NC   January 23rd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Blogo should not be kicked out of office without having a fair trial. They should wait until after his trial and then kick him out.

horsegrandma   January 23rd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Curious? How many votes re-elected him for a second term are actually living people? Ask the people of IL what should be done with this . My vote? GET HIM OUT!

Gitmo ? It is just a couple of minutes from Haiti.
Haiti is central to all that goes on in the Caribbean.
Guynans, Bahamians and Cubans are close to 40 per cent of Haitian descent.

jack   January 23rd, 2009 3:40 pm ET

regarding blagojevich, he says "presumed innocent..." as an extreme comparison, if a person was witnessed raping a child, would that person be free to continue living their life (and work and make decisions, etc) in freedom until the trial?

Gödel   January 23rd, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Rush Limbaugh's prescriptions must be messing with mind.

Gerry DePetro   January 23rd, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Rick you know you just leave me speechless. Because you are so damn truthful and say it all so well. You do such a great job! You really are what the epitope of a good journalist is. Keep on hammering them and enlightening us.

Rick Good Job!!!!

Bob   January 23rd, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Rick, this is a waste of time. He's done either way. I just hear him throwing in the statement about taxes to scare people. This guy is still of the Bush/Cheney mindset of fear and hate, a mindset that no longer fits with the new direction our country is taking.

Regardless if he's guilty or not, he's lost all his credibility...His career is over no matter what the outcome of the trial.

Viv   January 23rd, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Oh my God, what is this guy problem?
He had too many press conference to explain the same things.
He is guilty, he should have thought of all of this. What about the tape Governor?

Crunked   January 23rd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

They should give tax breaks to the working man, the governor brings a valid point that corporate tax loop holes is leaving the burden on the working people. The people need the break, they should suspend income tax on all personal income tax returns on people making up to a certain amount. Now some argue that all personal income taxation should be suspended, but then again making a few million a year they can afford current tax rates.

Corporate tax loopholes should be redefined, and the people should be exempt this year from income taxation!

PS Legalize it!

Teresa   January 23rd, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Rick, who does this this guy Blagojevich think he is!!!! What ? He is so above the Law that he should not be impeached when he is so blatantly Acting in a manner that is not ethical?... Come on!!! then when we are dissatisfied with the elected officials we can't impeach him? Is he CRAZY? OK Rod we will let you stay in there and spin your unethical behavior because you think you're above the law.... yeah right we will change the rules just for you

sage of maryland   January 23rd, 2009 3:46 pm ET

It certainly appears to me that most military people at the highest levels believed that we were torturing and that alone is enough evidence for me. I would recommend to the President that alleged terrorists be tried in much the same way that Nazi's were tried after World War II. Also a special prison should be built and run by the Federal Correctional officials to hold all terrorists no matter where they are from. Terrorists who are found guilty of murdering others should be given the death penalty.

Ms. Shawn Kersh   January 23rd, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Mr. Sanchez:

I am commenting on your question as to how we think President Obama is doing? He has only been in office for 3 1/2 days. How much do you really think that he can get accomplished in 31/2 days. Remember that the situation that the United States is in today didn't just happen overnight. And it cannot be fixed overnight. I have been watching you today on CNN and I have heard you constantly say Barack Obama and not President Obama. Is there a reasoning for that? You referred to former President Bush as President Bush. Why not refer to the current President as President Obama. Regardless of whether or not you voted for him or not it is simply RESPECT.

Joe   January 23rd, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Blago confrence today. Blago is to much like President Bush. He is really evil. He is a clown. Blago should just step down from government and consider working for Bill on the Factor. I am suppurised that Bush did not put him on his cabinet. Bush really could have used a guy like him. I thought for a second it was Bush giving his first State Of The Union we all remember that one.

I think, Gov. of Illinoy needs to have a fair trial first of all as a US Citizen. May be there should be some serious reviews and reflections on the regulations regarding the rights of Governors of any state, or other governmental officials to have their say. There alwayes has to be a hearing of both sides of the story....

John from Michigan   January 23rd, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Where is the news coverage of marijuana reform being voted the top priority of American Citizens on change.org and change.gov? Just wondering, have not seen much coverage of it.

I think fair trials should be earned, not given to everyone, I sure hope Bin Laden doesn't get one, also, I think politicians should have much tougher trials than us the regular guys. Now to Blago, for once do something right, shut up and step down

Anne Manyak   January 23rd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Hey, we give due process and fair hearings to confessed terrorists. This is a fundamental part of our constitutional democracy. I don't like Blagojevich at all, but he has a valid point. He has a right to a fair hearing.

Martin   January 23rd, 2009 3:53 pm ET

I find it most interesting that the President is using executive orders to change things, what happened to going to congress and on a bi-partisan level introduce a bill, that the people can have input into through thier congressman or senator, to change the law or amend it to eliminate the offending behavior good.

Crunked   January 23rd, 2009 3:54 pm ET

UN Defines torture as
"any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him, or a third person, information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in, or incidental to, lawful sanctions"

Torture should be banned, US is not above the UN policy, its about time Obama is showing the world that the US is no longer the world's policing force, that we have our own domestic issues that bleeding into international markets. I mean we are the dollar and all, but it is not our responsibility to force US policy against UN mandates. We are a member of the security counsel, not the leader. As a super power democracy it is essential that we assist other countries on their evolving and securitizing their democratic governments, however it is should not be US policy to push the other countries through democracy doors, we should only open them.

Torturing during interogations only will guarentee that after certain thresholds of pain are reach intelligence is how integrators want it. We should be a more peaceful, intelligent society focusing on domestic issues rather than raging alcoholics riding horses like Yosemite Sam enforcing unwanted international policy violating geneva conventions regulations. Smoke weed all day, err day, pothead said it first.

Illinois resident   January 23rd, 2009 3:55 pm ET

I am an Illinois resident, Blagojevich sounds like he is throwing up smoke screens i.e. raising taxes and calling people like Rahm Emanual. He never said I want to call Rahm Emanual, Jessie Jackson, he references “people like”. And then how the Senate wants to raise taxes. He is running scared and is trying to prolong what is coming his way, which is due justice. I WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN. HE HAS HUMILIATED THE STATE OF ILLINOIS AND NEEDS TO LEAVE OFFICE.

BandedFromRecess   January 23rd, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Shawn Kling   January 23rd, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Obama has done a great job this week! I am so proud of him. I only wish that he would state the obvious solution to get this economy moving again. A little inflation is a good thing right now, its the only thing that will keep the printing presses at bay around the world. Next, we need to let some of the banks fail. We have far too many! remember the old adage, if you can't measure something you can't manage it!!! For those banks that remain, there should be some sort of weekly / monthly KPI's to measure how successful the bank is in working with their customers in terms of managing their debt load. The goal should be to get the average American family in a positive cash flow position again on a monthly basis. Based on this score, the banks with the best track record get more money at a better rate than those with lower scores who do not work with the consumer.

roslyn   January 23rd, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Rick,

Is it a problem for you to say President Obama????

I hear you call all the other presidents former President Carter, Bush and Clinton and the latest former President Bush so what is the deal about you and the rest of the CNN group to say President Obama.

I think if you have this type of job the least you can do is give him his respect or is it you don't want too????

Matt   January 23rd, 2009 3:58 pm ET

I completely agree with everything Blagojevich said in his recent press conference! He is exactly right with the American politics and assumption of guilt inherited by the American people on Gov. Blago. His statements were clear and evident that he was getting kicked out of office because of his loyalty toward the people of Illinois, instead of the interest for lobbyists, politicians, and corporations. It happens in every state government including our federal government. I know Blagojevich is not a "true" American, and I believe that is "a" reason for wanting to impeach him, as well as some confidential information regarding Obama, and or Jackson, Jr. I'm from St. Louis, and I have watched him since he was in office, and noticed his appreciation from the citizens of IL, his loyalty to the people of IL., and his genuine concern for the people instead of every politician's (not all, but I would say around 90%) goal of power, money, and "fame" in the perspectives of the publics' eye. He is right about the Republicans wanting an edge in a seat for the government of IL. They aren't in office for aiding or changing for the good, instread politicians tell the American public (state and federal) what they "WANT" to hear to get votes, which equals power which equals money (funding to/from lobbyists and corporations) which equals fame. Our government is a terrible mess and I am sick of seeing pathetic and erroneous conclusions posted on the internet shown next to the Blagojevich press conference. These people clearly don't understand politics, law, or psychology, because I would be embarrassed to post any of those ignorant quotes. Again, those people are less educated and unknowing of how American politics are really are behind the scenes. It's obvious, our country's politicians are some (I mean all of them) of the wealthiest people (top 5-10% in income) in this country and have some affiliation to lobbyists or big corporations. Wow, is that shocking, the most powerful people in our country also have a say in the laws and bills passed to govern the people. It's simple common sense.

Janis   January 23rd, 2009 4:00 pm ET

I live in Texas and I would expect a COWBOY to stand up for his RIGHTS!

In light of the last 8 years, all of the corruption within the Bush and Cheney REIGN, not any of the RICH ELITE are going to have to pay for a single thing that they have done to our COUNTRY, because of GREED and POWER.. They have refused to testify, have refused to show up for hearings, have refused to be responsible to the American People....

I do know Blago has just as much a right as anyone to defend himself. Now days, you are automatically found guilty before you have a chance to prove yourself innocent. Another right being taken away from us!

Whether or not Blago has done something illegal is still to be
determined.

Also, I heard where Cheney and Gonzalez are suppose to have charges brought against them in the State of Texas for abuse in the prisons; Gonzalez for covering it up. Cheney apparently owns the PRIVATE PRISON's in TEXAS.

Imagine that, another way to make lots of money, at the TAXPAYERS EXPENSE. It's called GOVERNMENT GRANTS to operate these private jails and prisons, the more people you put away, the more money they make. That's a VERY, VERY SCARY thing, putting people in jail and prison for PROFIT.

Why is this not being covered by our NEWS MEDIA? I would like to hear more about this and less about BLAGO! Especially, since I live in this STATE where they put more people in prison than any other STATE in the United States.

J Freeman - Los Gatos CA   January 23rd, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Though likely guilty, Blagojevich has valid points to his rights. Our media always presumes guilt (making things impossible to defend if in fact innocent), and these last decades it has become far-far worse. Obama says transparency, then he should proclaim such to those applying this process in Chicago in his absence. Chicago F'd up picking a lame Gov (we in CA had horrific Gray Davis we had to kick out – so touché!), so they need to respond and clean up this non-national mess. The rest of us have an economy and new Pres to focus on!

abcdefg   January 23rd, 2009 4:03 pm ET

The word "Blago" means "treasure" in Serbian. I don't know if it is such a good idea to give him that nick name! :)

Lucy of Chgo   January 23rd, 2009 4:05 pm ET

!st of all it's only been 3 full days, given Pres. Obama's record, he's done more in these 3 days than it would seem according to Michael Moore, EX.Pres Bush(don;t you just like the sound of that?) did in the 1st 8 months. Maybe if Bush was on the watch, instead of being at the golf-grounds, 9/11 would not have occured. Look, and as for the Blueberry, the Pres, gave up on getting a $100,000.00 oval office rug (I'm not sure if the one that's in the office right now cost that much,) but dollar for dollar, I'm sure Pres. Obama, has not even spend 1/2 of what Ex- Pres Bush did so far. Any way, let's all more out of the way, and get to work, let's get this guy who would spend our tax-payers $$ in and get him and all the others to RE-PAY, (with intrest), Futher, if we ALL don't work together (meaning the persons we elected into office don't start working TO-gether) we may soon not have to have a divided party, because there won't be any party

"You Didn't See This"   January 23rd, 2009 4:05 pm ET

I'm just seeing this -"You Didn't See This" piece for the first time. Bottom line it is in very poor taste. They don't go together in this piece.

Matt   January 23rd, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Again, for everyone posting about this negatively toward Gov. Blagojevich: what criminal or tort ("wrongdoing" for those with no knowledge of simple law) has Gov. Blagojevich been charged with? No one knows, because it is not a "legal" manner, yet a political removal of a man that is not for the interest of the common politician, which is for corporations, lobbyists, and themselves. Can anyone IDENTIFY what he has done wrong?

Answer: No, it's a clear objective of the government to remove someone for false/inaccurate assumptions. People, please think before you "write" (speak)!

flaminglefty   January 23rd, 2009 4:07 pm ET

I love the daily exposition of the right's hypocrisy and obstructionism. The more they rant, the more they marginalize all of the GOP, which should make the world safe for liberals for a long time to come! I pray daily that they really do believe that S.P. is a future leader of the party!

Just now found the site...interesting and disturbing. All of you Obama worshipers (he is your Messiah, isn't he?) have sent this country into a death spiral. Burn your copy of the Constitution–you have probably never read it anyway, wave goodbye to capitalism and hello to socialism, welcome in an administration that throws money at every problem, bankrupting this country and putting you, your kids, grand kids, etc. on the hook for paying off a frighteningly out of control debt. Obama, himself, has mentioned the greatness of this country, the one all others look up to; no country is more giving and charitable; and no country affords the potential to succeed like this one. Then why in Hell does he want to CHANGE it? Hold on to your seats...your new pilot is going to crash this plane.

Patricia Lawrence   January 23rd, 2009 4:16 pm ET

The Bush government, a Republican, spent trillions of dollars outside this country. There was not a real concern about the money belonging to the American taxpayer. I did not see Bush or any other Republicans asking Americans if too much was being spent. The American taxpayer was not only used to finance financial interests, our young paid with their lives and futures. Now that there is a chance to give back that money to help the very people it belongs to, Republicans are worried about it being too much. Is not there something wrong with this picture? Why are they not outraged at the entitlements, privilege, and waste incurred over the last eight years? Why is there a problem when it comes to supporting the American taxpayer? Help Obama, or get out of the way!

Laverne   January 23rd, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Simply, WWII was won because of the manufacturing capabilities of the United States. Should another war erupt, will the US have the capabilities to produce Jeeps, tanks, Ships and other war essentials without the Big Three? Are we relying on Japan, or Korea or even China to baled us out? Let us not be nearsighted.

Lucy of Chgo   January 23rd, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Hi Rick,
I hope you don't mind, but atfer reading the entries above mine, I noted that ther is an inherant truth, in the making, and would like an answer to this question... Why mis it when we have a Democratic President, we call him by just using his last name, and even after he is out ot office!! so often the Persons in the news media, will refer to Ex-President Nixon, Regan, Bush Sr, and now Ex-President Bush, but when it comes to the Democratic Presidents, their names roll oh so often and are referred to as Carer, Clinton. Then now to see that even while in office the current president isn't respected, even for holding the office, there is something my parents told me years ago, that no matter, what I felt about a preson, no matter if I liked the person or not, We were taught to use the TITLE they were given, for there is a GRACE to the OFFICE, to the TITLE, they had. I'm sure you sir, will try to do the same, and this note is written not only to you sir, but to your exteem co-workers as well. Thank You for your part in trying to constantly raise our awareness, into what the issues are, and for trying to report them without YOUR opinion stuck right in our face, which so many other reporters try to do. In there case I say then we shouls all be given a soap box, and our own time on TV to express our opinions. Thanks for at least giving us this venue to express our opinions! Keep up the great job!!!

Janis   January 23rd, 2009 5:03 pm ET

I also want to hear about marijuana reform! I live in the State of Texas! Its like a GETSTPO!!! I don't understand this "WAR ON DRUGS" anyway. I've never understood the logic behind a WAR against our own people.

I do know it was the REPUBLICAN'S who created this mess for POWER! It's an easy way to bring down the poor, control the multitude's, control the WORLD, corruption within our law enforcement. Many, many people make lots of money keeping drugs illegal.

Lots of money made at the expense of the TAXPAYER's. Imagine, if we were still in alcohol prohibiton, we would put everyone caught with alcohol, even in your home, in prison. Your law enforcement would have the right to come in your home decked out in SWAT GEAR, terrify your children, tear your home apart, vehicles apart, seize everything you own, take your family away... Then, if you don't end up in prison, you will most likely end up having a record, unless you have enough money to buy your way out. This is just a few of the HORRORS this WAR ON DRUGS has created.

We have to have REAL NEWS MEDIA coverage to STOP this! It is time to stop the PROPOGANDA. We are creating a society full of felons! Our Addicts are not CRIMINAL's! There are better solutions to this problem. PLEASE, FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR COUNTRY, REPORT REAL ISSUES! Issues that need to be addressed, in order for real changes to happen.

LUXURY TOILET - BofA CEO OFFICE REMODEL   January 23rd, 2009 5:59 pm ET

Interesting CNN story today on BofA CEO that spent over $1M redecorating his office – including a $35,000 toilet. How about a story on comparative costs of luxury toilets? His toilet cost in excess of any I have heard of in the luxury market. Is his wife or girlfriend an interior decorator – who was the decorator? Perhaps someone padded costs ... (edited)

Rick.......
While Pres Clinton was president there were several members of the Bush admin who were on a conservative think tank advovovating the invasion of Irag, way before the invasion and 911...........Cheney,Rumsfeld and one other and they finally had their way. Today we have a president who will stand for what we believe in instead of stooping to the level of less civalized governments. We have to do what we can to insure our national interest, however we can not stoop to the level of of some idiotic nation, unless that is how we are content with how we are percieved. Let's rise eabove it all and we will be no less safe and possibly loved alittle more in the world.

Doris   January 26th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Rick,

About the comments regarding Rush Limbaugh and Pres. Obama. Have you called to verify it with Rush? Before he said "I hope he fails", I believe he was speaking of Pres. Obama's policies. So, he was not speaking of the President failing, but his policies.

Doris M.

Clowe   January 26th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

Rick,
You are being dishonest in your discussion about Rush. If he added the comment that he was speaking about Obama's policies right after he said that he hopes he fails, you can't simply dismiss is as you did. Why not read the entire quote and not pick and choose and therefore, destroy the context? By the way, did you see Rush's rebuttal. I'm sorry, of course you did. You being a professional in all. In his rebuttal, Rush described Obama's plan (actually Saul Alenski's (sp) plan) just as you did. It's called rule 13 in Rules for Radicals. I've even done the research for you. Talkin2U   January 26th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

I just listened to the clip on Rush & I heard him say he wants the current stimulas plan pieces we've heard about to fail, not the president. I think you took it out-of-context, OR are putting your thoughts in between what was said.. SHAME on CNN.!!

Talkin2U   January 26th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Citigroup's story is only a piece of the overall downfall that government built, when it passed on funds without accountability ..
Why should we expect any more than we're getting.?? Hell, if you want to tell us something, let us know how many dollars were expended by these companies after they got our bailout money.!
Forget ethics, where were the rules on spending.!!

tony   January 26th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Citigroup....Ugh! Now I know why they raised my credit card rate for no reason. President Obama, please tell citigroup that you are calling in their loan today, or you will raise their interest rate to 18% effective February 1. This was the option they extended to me!

Valerie, Ontario Canada   January 26th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

Seems to me that the Illinios government should suspend it's impeachment proceedings against the govenor and instead proceed directly to the legal courts for commitment proceedings. This man has clearly lost his mind and is definately not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

A jet that seats 12?.......How selfish!! How does a private jet stimulate the economy? Didn't they here about the executives being frowned upon in Washington when they flew in on their jets requesting bail out money? Did they not think they too would be frowned upon. This act goes to show that the banking industry has not learned anything from it's mistakes. Banks deserve to go belly up for being so greedy.....the sad part is we need them to survive economically. How can we hold the banks responsible for being greedy and corrupt? Yet our previous President (with no oversight) gave them billions of dollars to continue their greedy, selfish acts. It does not make sense to me Rick!!

Tamika =(

Troy Rodda   January 26th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Re: Bailout and Citigroup
Unbelievable...... but its the fault of our politicians for not making the banks accountable for the dollars. If the next round of bailout isn't strictly monitored and this happens again, we must vote out any congress person or senator that was "on the job" and allowed this to happen.

We're blaming Citi, but maybe we should get better control when we loan someone $45 Billion If they (Citi) don't get how serious this type of spending is, then we need to step in and give them a clearer picture of why they needed our help. They act as if, it's buisness as usual. What a bunch of idiots we now appear to have running the US Economy. Too much of a good thing, such as lack of governmemt control; really warps the view of the ones with the power. What a sad picture we must be to the rest of the world, let alone our own country.
Why play by the rules when the rich and powerful don't appear to.

Rudy   January 26th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Citigroup should be ashamed to eve consider purchasing a company plane. It shows no character in a difficult time like this to splurge our money. Shame, shame, shame. When will our government wake up and put some strings on o u r bailout money for these shamless CEO's

Joshua D.   January 26th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

BOYCOTT CITIGROUP!!! DON'T PAY YOUR CAR NOTE, OR YOUR CREDIT CARD BILLS, AND THEN MAYBE THEY WILL REALIZE WHO REALLY CONTROLS THE ECONOMY !! I am so angry over the jet, I don't even have the words, or maybe I just can't use them here~!
I think it's time some one stepped in to oversee the way the money is being spent..I think Obama should elect some one to "OK" every single solitary dime these CEO's want to spend.
Then I think the American people should know where every single dime has gone also.

Sharon   January 26th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Rick,

We should have let the banks fail, because they will continue to act with greed unless they fail and are left with nothing.

cj   January 26th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

In regards to your comments about Citibank buying an airplane for 50 million. Please keep in mind that when you put a deposit on an aircraft you have a legal contract to purchase that aircraft at completion. Most people buy an aircraft 2 or more years before completion. They could try and sell it but the market is saturated with aircraft and they would loose substantial money. It would be cheaper to operate it for a couple of years then sell it. This might be what they are doing.

Donna   January 26th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Citibank just sent me a notice that my interest rate was going to SKY ROCKET! We've had our Citibank account for years and have always paid our large monthly payments IN FULL. For the past 4 months, since my husband lost his job, we've made partial monthly payments. Again, never "missing" a payment. The gov't. hands money over to Citibank to facilitate loans to THE PUBLIC and they choose to purchase toys, to the tune of a $50 million plane, and they have the audacity tell me that I am going to be penalized for being fiscally responsible. I will be paying off the balance of my Citicard account asap and will never do business with them again. And, by the way, the gov't. doesn't find Citibanks' actions ILLEGAL??? Those responsible for Citibanks' decisions should be taken to court!

Jennifer Riggs   January 26th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Rick,

I just called Citigroup and asked if they could lower my student loan interest rate since their CEOs can afford a $50 million plane. I was told the only program I eligible for…. make 48 consecutive payments on time I could receive a 0.5% rate cut. Did I mention I’ve never made a late payment to them and they’ve been receiving my payments for 2 years already? I guess they can afford rate reductions when they are buying planes.

Philip Nochlin   January 26th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Why doesn"t Obama nationalize the banks, at least the extent that the feds have sufficient staff in each bank to ensure they are loaning out the funds and otherwise prudently executing their financial responsibilities?

Tamika Russell   January 26th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Rush is just a grumpy old man who indulges in drama and negativity!! He wants our President to fail? If he fails we all fail. That's not a very nice wish on the United States of America, but it's only so he can say he was right. Selfish, selfish, selfish.....just like the banking industry!! Great topics today CNN!

p.s. Rick your show rocks....that is why Rush is angry with you, don't let him ruffle your feathers too!

noelle   January 26th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

Demanding accountability sets a standard much needed in America. Actually, I believe it was irresponsible of congress to allow Bush to stay in office for so long, oh yeah-they were too busy voting themselves a pay raise. It would be nice to have American leaders set an example for our children, as it is I find it hard to explain to my kids why our leaders behave so irresponsibly.

It should have been clear to every human on the planet that Rush Limbaugh is simply a first class jerk. But the only way to get rid of him, people, is STOP LISTENING! (And make sure his organization knows you're not listening.) Please, can't we make him go away?

Stephanie Edwards   January 26th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Rick , all I can say about Rush is that he is a true RACIST at Heart which is the true problem that preys on America. Ratings are not an excuse to say he wants the President or Liberalism to fail. It is however, a way to keep injustice and inequality alive and well in America.

Thanks
Stephanie

tony   January 26th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Edwin...first, it's 50 million and I don't believe anyone should be spending money foolishly on a plane that will seat 12. For 50 million, they could afford to fly these executives for many years in coach seating!

It's time everyone understands that stupidity must be eliminated and these executives are flat out dumb and should be removed from their positions by their owners....hmmm, I think that is every US citizen!

Evelyn   January 26th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

RICK,

Rush Limbaugh does not love himself. As a result ,he cannot
love his fellowman. When we cannot love, we are driven
by venom. People go around spewing this venom on everyone
they come in contact with when there is no love in the heart.
We need to pray for Rush so that he can learn to love
self and others. Rick, please forgive this very unhappy
man. You are full of love and he is not. Continue to walk
in love.

God Bless Rick

Rick, I sometimes dont understand why an American should say things like what Rush said. Where has conservatism led us? He and his followers did not help Bush, so he shoud keep his mouth close and let Obama brings his ideas.

Marilyn Miller   January 26th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

Rush Limbaugh is getting just what he wants right now. Lot's of attention! Unfortunately his words fuel hatred, and enpower small minds. The more unemployment and financial stress people are under, the more they may listen to someone who feeds their anger.
Keep showing him up for the dangerous fool that he is.

Freedom of speech YES, I will fight for it but this crap that comes out of Linbaughs mouth offends me.I would like to know what his plan is. Same as the last years? GOP wake up and get to work for the good of ALL , dont waste time on this Linbaugh guy ,he is flawed . I dont want any one to fail ,especially our President and elected leaders.

Dena Barbara   January 26th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Thank you so much for the story on torture and the possible indicting of Rumsfeld and Bush on war crimes. Recently, both Bush and Cheney openly admitted authorizing waterboarding so they are guilty as hell. I hope Obama will pursue an investigation as your excellent UN expert advocated, despite having lots of other things to do and despite the probable negative reaction of some Republicans. The laws against war crimes must be supported.

auntivenom   January 26th, 2009 6:23 pm ET

MBAs' degree requirements do not include ethics courses-glaring omission is of the war colleges' business schools' curriculums, which is obviously especially critical to balanced economic education as a Viet Nam War officer and current business prof. at an Army war college states. The discrepancy of an MD degree not requiring studying nutrition for so long- some have incorporated now- is a similar gap with what is so 'old school' yet current a necessity for competent training, learning, that the degree would accomplish what it's supposed to. A doctor or an MBA 's credentials to not include these basics as foundational, not just supplemental, ill serves all those involved with either of those professions.

john white   January 26th, 2009 6:58 pm ET

It would be really nice if you would have listened to Rush Limbaughs total comment!! He said that he hoped President Obamas policies would fail !!Not the man !!! But what else should we expect from CNN the truth? Only if it is from a Democratic point of view. By the way I have noticed your networks lack of coverage of terrorist activity since President Obama has taken over. HUMMMM!!!!

Tamara   January 27th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

I am a Obama supporter, but I am disappointed in the fact that he has not addressed the housing and foreclosure issue. How about some executive orders on this. People are not going to spend money if they don't know if they will have a place to live. There is no mention of a resolution in the stimulus package. CNN you need to call Obama on this as he made the foreclosure issue his prime focus during his campaign.

Archie Velarde   January 27th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

Rick:
A justification for supporting the financial support of the Big Three auto makers is "National Security" or "National Defense". WWII was won because of the "industrial might" of the United States. Should we have another prolonged war, who will build the Tanks, Trucks, Jeeps etc.?
I have not heard this argument anywhere. Why has this not been brought up?

Rick , I believe the term your looking for is "Psychopath" (i..e Politician) – The psychopath is defined by a psychological gratification in criminal, sexual, or aggressive impulses and the inability to learn from past mistakes. Individuals with this disorder gain satisfaction through their antisocial behavior and lack remorse for their actions.

Former President George W. Bush came into office with billions of dollars in surplus left by Former President William Jefferson Clinton whom the republicans literally ran out of town on a rail. Former President G.W. Bush leaves behind upon his exit from office, two wars, trillian dollar deficiet, and a legacy of leaving behind innocent people to die on that bridge in New Orleans during Katrina. President Barack Obama inherits all this mess; yet journalists are refusing to respect President Obama by calling him President Obama, but still call Former President Bush; President Bush. What in Gods name is that? I know as journalists you studied English and Writing. I know you know very well when to use proper nouns. Surely the newly elected President warrents this distinction. I feel nothing but pity for you all, because no matter how hard you try to hide it "We the People", who elected President Barack Obama by a landslide, giving him a mandate know what your problem is. May God have mercy on each of you. President Obama really care about the common folks that you all could care less about. President Obama is being treated this way because for the first time we have a President who is actually making every effort to keep his word to the people even though the Republicans doesn't want to support his stimulus package knowing that he could pass it without them, but he has promised to bring a spirit of bi-partisonship to Washington. "GOD BLESS PRESIDENT OBAMA!" "GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

Greg, Tallahassee, FL   January 27th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Rick, this has nothing to do with politics but with you and your style. In 1988 to 1991 we lived in Hollywood FL and our favorite evening news was FOX channel 7. Its host was a very exciting guy who was a Miami resident named Rick Sanchez. We moved to Tallahassee in Jan 1992 and the high tempo evening news was over. What a pleasure to see you doing so many good things for CNN now that I am retired and have time to watch. Keep up the good work.

Pati   January 27th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

Dear Rick
It is just unthinkable to think of how politicians think that thier behavior is acceptable. We as Americans have grown accustom to poor actions by people we have ellected to serve us. Why are we just letting them get away with this?Have we as a nation grown so ammuned to bad judgment and bad politicians and bad bahavior. It seems that Deals are made all over the place, the unlucky ones are caught, but how many deals have we not heard of.We need to clean up our government and make laws that repromand each of the culprits. I say clean house President Obama. People just get away with so much anymore, that in itself is a crime. Now perhaps it's time for us to stand up and say "NO MORE" CORRUPTION is everywhere. We need to clean house. And that starts with The White House and our Government.. It's just ashamed how actions are just so blown off,and accepted . Where are we as a Nation headed. We need to elect people with morales not a list of lobbyists and financial backers.

The suggestion that the President's comments this morning represented a shift and change in policy toward the Muslim world is inaccurate and misleading.
CNN broadcast a speech on September 20th, 2001, in which President Bush spoke to the Muslim world directly and said, "We respect your faith. It is practiced freely by millions of Americans..." Rarely are excerpts seen from that speech, and rarely is credit given where it is due.
One thing the President was not asked this morning was what he'd do about Saddam Hussein in the war on terror.

Another Forgotten Veteran   January 27th, 2009 9:09 pm ET

Mr. Sanchez,... why do i keep hearing the media call President Obama, Our 1st African American President, if you look up his history, you and the media will find that he's 1/2 black and 1/2 white, that doesn't mean he's 100% African American, in my book, that makes him, Bi Racial, just like 90% of all americans in our Country, unless you are the true american native > Native American Indian.
I myself am 1/2 white and 1/2 Native American Indian > Cherokee and proud of both my sides. I don't claim one without the other.
p.s., to the media and to you Mr. Sanchez, the majority of the people voted for our new President, please show him respect when referring to him or about him, call him President Obama, not Obama, or mr. obama, NO ONE CALLED BUSH, BUSH!!!

noelle   January 28th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

I think a congressional pay cut should be part of this stimulus package.

don halcombe   January 28th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

President Obama is in the unfortunate position of trying to save the cow AFTER the barbecue. You would have to be totally brain dead to ever vote Republican again, even for dog catcher. President Obama is up to the task, and the Republicans are, once again, the most despicable party ever dreamed up – how we ever got people like these elected is something nightmares are made of.

cowboyzx1   January 28th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

why can't the bill go though without pork because its not for the polictic or for the americans.

Rich   January 28th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Why didn't the Bush tax break work for the American public over the past 8 years? It seems only CEOs capitalized on it. Was it Obama's fault the first stimulus package wasn't monitored or controlled? It's time for the Republicans to stand aside and. They were asleep at the switch. Quit whinning.

Bobby Jiles   January 28th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Rick, Please correct me if i'm wrong. Aren't companies like Home Depot, Microsoft and Caterpillar laying off working due to the loss of revenue? Not because of the lack of "Tax Breaks"?

Bobby Jiles   January 28th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Rick, isn't it true that Mervyns, Office Depot and Circuit City are going out of business because of the extreme loss in sales/revenue? Or was it because of the lack of "Tax Breaks"? I feel the republican party once again is proving to the american people that they really don't care about them. With more than 3,000,000 jobs lost and counting all the Republican party wants is to have more tax cuts for big businesses so they can line there pockets for doing what the lobbyist pay them to do.

Bobby Jiles   January 28th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

With the passing of the new stimulus plan by Obama, it would immediately stimulate the economy by putting americans back to work and with americans having jobs they will do what they do best: "Spend Money"

Paul-North Georgia   January 28th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Paul-North Georgia   January 28th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Rick – why nothing on the Employee Free Choice Act? It's making right-wing heads explode because it places the choice of how to form a union in the hands of the workers and takes it away from big business. Shouldn't something be said about Corporations that used bailout money to organize against Employee Free Choice Act ?

Ray   January 28th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

Rick, It is obvious to me that change is coming only in the speed of circling the bowl. The country is bi-furious. Both Republican and Democrat constituents are upset with earmarks attached to bailout bill. Speaker Pelosi's aid of $33M to American Samoa to offset tax breaks given to Star-Kist (her husband a 17m shareholder is benefitting from this attachment). If true, (this as seen in emails) it would seem goes against Preident Obama's pledge to cut earmarks.

We should bail-out the people who are in trouble from losing everything and not the Banks! who honestly don't care about us. I rather pay more Taxes to help the People get out of this crisis than the Corporations and the Banks!!!

gmasworld   January 28th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

The stimulus package should be tabled until all those white collar criminals (banks, car manufacturers, etc) are kicked out of the companies.

Concerning the young Somalian men, it does not surprise me in the least that these young men were vunerable, prime candidates for such recruitment . Although, the living conditions, etc. of these young men is unknown, I suspect many lived in deplorable conditions and likely struggled more than most American families to make "ends meet".

I reside in metro ATL, and the housing conditions of many Muslim Somalians, particularly in the Clarkson/Stone Mountain area, is the most deplorable. Not only is it embrassing that Dekalb county would allow slumlords to rent these properities, but it leaves young Somalian people (young and older men) without a sense of worth and hope. Consequently, it opens the door for extreme radial groups to recruit on the premise of a shared religious belief.

My encouragement is for local, state and federal governments to examine the conditions underwhich many immigrants are thrusted into upon relocating to the United States.

I have a question, why does the tax payer have to pay for abortions. I definately do not believe in a womans right to choose, but if the law is going to allow such a thing, they should have the right to fully pay for such things themselves. insurance shoudl not be allowed to help, our government should not pay one penny toward abortion whether it is here or internationally.

If a teenager is going to get one, it should be required that her parents be present. If a married woman gets one her husband should have to be there.

But all those should here the truth of what GOD says about it, not in the religious spectical that often confronts such things. But in love and sincerity be informed and then allow them to make the choice based on truth and not on fear. There are a lot of radical christians out there that do not represent GOD and HIS CHRIST. It is not our job to change anyone, it is our pleasure to give truth, from tehre it is the job of the Holy SPirit.

I know that Obama is the president, but he has no right to go against the GOD that this country was founded on. I pray he do well as president, but as long as he assists our nation to go further and further from the creator of all things, GOD our savior and king, the united states will get worse and worse, regardless of what our leadership does to counteract this.

NOW IT'S OVER!! WHEN DOEST Blagojevich GET A REALITY SHOW OR A TALK SHOW? HE'S A GREAT TALENTED CROOK!!!!

C. Scott (Canada)   January 30th, 2009 6:04 pm ET

Not long ago CNN had a continuously running ticker tape at the bottom of the screen. It was easy to follow and pleasing to the eye. For some reason it was changed to a stationary line of text highlighted on a pastel white background. It is not at all pleasing to view and requires a lot more concentration to get the complete thoughts (since the lines are broken in mid sentence). So now we concentrate either on the news on screen or the text on the bottom, but not both. We get a lot less out of your news now than we did before. Any chance of it being changed back to the old format? We would get a lot more out of it. As it is now, we virtually ignore the text.

Hi Rick I love your show. Missed you. Did you watch the super bowl? I loved it. I was out on the patio having a smoke with on obvious Republican and he was talking trash about Springsteen. he said and what whould the people he went to school with would say about him. I thought about that and all I could think was whitch ones the dead ones or the ones missing limbs or the crazy ones. or the dying ones.
He was part of the Veitnam era and these guys that did there thing, were hated as being too violent and never really given credit for being the servents of our people that they should have. A small example of what is wrong with Republican'ts

Regarding the stimulus plan:

Upon hearing that many corporate executives received 18 billion dollars in bonuses, I am more concerned about the allocation of the new stimulus plan. Here's a simple idea: Why not give that money to adult, tax-paying Americans? Many Americans spend their income tax returns prior to getting it or quickly do so the moment they get it. Thus, if we gave the money to adult, tax-paying Americans, then I really believe that most Americans will not save but pour the money back into the economy. People would use it for deposits on homes, buy new cars, purchase items for their homes, and hire contractors for house renovations. This would truly jump start our economy. Then if the U.S. wants to get even more aggressive, they could suspend income taxes for a year or maybe two so that more money stays in their pockets. As a business owner, I could really use the thousands of dollars I'm paying in income taxes this year. I'd buy a new car, purchase windows, and hire a handyman for several odd jobs in my home. And this is just me! Think about it. It would work!

Charlene Sammis   February 2nd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Hey, Rick, You all just mentioned that Pres. Obama is shaming the Wall Street guys who got billions in bonuses after we bailed out their companies. I don't think people like that know the meaning of "shame" nor are affected by it. "Shame" and wall street CEO' etal are mutually exclusive.

We need to convert "shame" into hard dollar loss or jail time. That's the only way to get these Wall Street boys' attention.

Janet DeLaney   February 2nd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

President T. Roosevelt broke up Standard Oil because it got so big it was a danger to the American economy. Why have banks been allowed to become so big that we cannot let them go broke because it will destroy our economy. They make terrible decisions, give huge bonus, and then hold out their hands for help from people who have lost their jobs and/or retirement.

Impeached Bagojavich, shut up, go jogging then jog into the sunset, never to be seen or heard from again, your an embarrasment to the legal system.

Archie Velarde   February 6th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

Rush Lambaugh has been declared the leader of the Republic Party and he has stated that he " wants Obama to fail", therefore the Republicans in the Senate and House have followed his mantra and have exactly that. They have been obstructionist as is possible. May they have pity because the American people will not stand for this.

Thanks for this opportunity, I hope the lyrics from The Who's "We don't get fooled again" aren't fulfilled by this new administration's attitude towards the U.A.W. workers and retirees. I'm also retired and disabled and struggle to keep my household above the waves while paying more for health care, etc. We are "the folks on main street" that are being depended on to "turn things around for us all", yet being forced to continue to "give back" more and more–with less and less! I hope sincerely that "THE NEW BOSS is not THE SAME AS THE OLD BOSS'!!!!!!!!!!!?????

Barney Smithly   April 2nd, 2009 4:10 pm ET

Notice that none of these government top bass of politicians are mentioning that in order to really turn around the so called economy they need to do this: Increase all minimum wages, increase other wages for the working class so that they can afford to live within there meager means. Also give them socialized medicine so that they can afford to go to these doctors (who are ripping them off) And in addition they should do away with credit which is mortgaging people's lives for future years – this suits the wealthy because they do not have to raise the wages of the working class to pay for items with cash. The greedy are benefiting from outragous profits at the top. Increasing the wages of the working class will cut into the profit margin which is way out of line for the rich and greedy, this is major for the turn around.

Do you think Fox News gives off a lot of hate. Bill O'Reilly and Shawn Hannaty always speak with hate coming out of their mouths

Barb   September 18th, 2009 6:52 pm ET

Rick kudos for calling out Fox. They need more of that, Fox is the most biased, least honest news on TV. I do a lot of fact checking on reporters, you fact check truthful everytime, whereas Fox reporters especially Hannity fact check pants on fire false so many times it is ridiculous. For the real truth from someone who is not afraid to say it like it is I watch you, and I have never been disappointed.

Milagro Castillo   September 19th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

Ricardo!! Finally someone at CNN that had the courage to confront Fox News. They have the most biased and hateful reporters on the planet. They do not check their facts and the venom that comes out of their mouth towards any "change" deserves to be challenged. As Americans, we all need to get a campaign going against Fox News and its affiliates. They are harboring and supporting hate towards people of color and deserve to be banished from the airwaves. Come on America, let's start our own Fox News tea party!!
