Boxing

No, This Is *Not* Part Of Boxing Day

From T.J. Holmes

The leftovers are cold, the presents are opened, and you've already made that trip to the store for the batteries Santa forgot to bring.

Anything else signal it's December 26th to you?

Well, if we were all in Great Britain or Canada or Australia, we'd be marking Boxing Day.

Traditionally, that's when the wealthy thanked their servants with gifts. But over the years, Boxing Day became synonymous with charitable giving.

I know what you're thinking: That's nice if you can afford it in times like these, right?

Think of it this way: sometimes the greatest charity we can provide isn't anything that would fit in a box anyway.

It's our time.

So let us all pause on this Boxing Day, to think of something we can do for our neighbors in need.

Lord knows you see enough stories on the news every day about people who could use a helping hand.

A true MASH fan would remember that "Boxing Day" was the subject on one program. It was when officers (bosses) swapped places with an enlisted person (employee).

Another plus for "clean coal" I wonder if they will use any of this mess in thier TV promotions.

scb4vp in DC   December 26th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Totally unrelated...
But I'm LOVING how all the CNN journalists, etc are hating on Ed Henry's "assignment" as he reports on Prez-elect Barack Obama et al from Hawaii.

Good for you, Ed. You deserve this tropical assignment...Now get some sun. :-)

Clean Coal should stop running TV commercials BEFORE they figure out practical carbon dioxide capture. Charity is just the thing they would want to associate themselves with.

Why is congress being ignored, they are the five hundred pound gorilla in the room. Because of the politics played by members, we are now in deep trouble, yet nothing on TV or the print media about what They are giving up or changing to save the economy. Nobody is holding thier feet to the fire and asking for accountability.

Rick
I sure would like to know what these idiots, that are condeming Isreal for attacking the Gaza would do if Mexico was sending over misiles every day into the U.S..

HistoricalFact   December 29th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

I blame the UN for the war in Gaza.On November, 1947 pressured by US and Britian, the UN turned out the people of part of Palestine and gave that land to the Israelis out of guilt of the Holocaust.Had they not done this there would be no reason for the Arab/Muslim world to create these terrorist groups. No reason for these massacres.

After 8 years of George Bush and Dick Chenney, the Republican Party really needs an idiot from Tennessee. Its going to be a long time before any Republican earns my vote.

ED   December 29th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

I feel that the Isreali people are abusing the support the U.S. gives to them , 10's of billions of dollars a year and military support. If they didn't have our support i feel the way they go about confronting the palistinians. they are like the trouble maker that starts the fight but has a bunch of big guys to dare any one to stand up to them. We as U.S. citizens need our government to stop this abuse. We should not be giving the Isreali's billions of dollars a year , let alone backing them up militarily to slaughter weak people.

I don't believe in democracy, I believe in MIGHT MAKES RIGHT.
If Hamas has no plans to pull a surprise like Hezballah did, they are doomed and the only losers will eb the ones who died!

Mansour   December 29th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

It is about time for the US to stop its involvement with Isreal. US is the only country in the world that can make a decision and solve the middle East peace in one shot it is sad for us as american to avoid this decision and see the world hates us for failing to act for peace.

stopthebully   December 29th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Israeli occupation and blocking of food and medicine is outragious. What do they expect the palestinians to do. Fight for their people however they can. Stop the Israeli terrorists

mac   December 29th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Hey Rick...
the Muslims want it both ways...shoot rockets at Israel and complain when THEY respond in force....what do they expect?? Look at what
USA did and continues to do in Middle East. These people that worship death do not want peace on earth no matter the date or the month or year. This has been an ongoing "I dare you" type of mentality. The free world cannot tolerate this macho..let them meet their 72 virgins...if any are left..
keep up the good reporting..! adios..mac

CK   December 29th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

If any American knew what "Islam" meant they would know that the Palestinian people are taught to be loving and kind to others. I lived in the West Bank and I saw first hand how the Palestinians are treated....Americans wouldnt even treat their dogs the way the Israelis treat them...I wish that those Americans who support the Israelis would go live in the Gaza strip or the West Bank for a week and could come out of there thinking the same way they do. The Israelis use America, our money and our power for evil and I pray Allah (God) will save these innocent men, women and children who are being murdered just for religious beliefs. We are just sitting here watching our hard earned money being sent to a country where it is used to kill people. I really dont think that God would have "chosen" such a group of people who would go against their own commandment...but yet we still support them!!!!!!!

I will occasionally listen to Mr. Sanchez at the gym when I cannot get Fox. But it is painfully obvious Mr. Sanchez is so far left it is disgusting, but then again so is CNN. Your reporting on Israel is so one sided. Fortunately I don't have to watch or listen to you. Thanks for the open forum however.

Historically speaking. GOD gave the HEBREWS the promised lands of Isreal when they left Egypt! Wars and kings changed things over the years. In 1947 the UN put the Jewish people into Gaza. In 1967 the Israealites won the war and took back the country as theirs, given to them by GOD HIMSELF. To save peace and try to make living together better, they gave up Gaza, MOSTLY, But todays problems are from the HAMAS not complying with anything or anyone. They are on a 6 month peace tready, but HAMAS keeps sending little hits here and there, causing great stress and some deaths, keeping the fire going. Never quitting as they promised, Now Isreal has had enough and they are taking them out. If they didn't hide themselves in hospitals, colleges, and residentual areas, then the people wouldn't be hurt. But they make sure to set up in these areas and thus everyone gets hurt. Make the Hamas keep the contracts like they promise but NEVER follow.Mary

CK   December 31st, 2008 2:05 am ET

HAMAS nor the Palestinian peolpe began this. They are not taught to be so inhumane or this desensatized to life. I am 150 % sure if you look at the beginning of this you will see your Israelis began it. This"war" is against every fiber of a Muslims being to begin something this unrelentlace battle for survival. Dont listen to everything they are showing because rc is right ...Americans only let you see what they WANT you to see. I have seen first hand the different ways the Palestinian and Israeli peolpe treat Americans...if they could many of them would spit in our faces. And yet we still supply the bullets for them to murder with!........And yes the UN put them there...on top of other people who were already living there.....and like a fire they are trying to cage up the ones who lived there kill them all and take over everything....huh..sounds like the Americans with the Indians who owned this land.....I wonder where the Israelis get it from.....the Israelis force themselves on the Palestinians, cage them in an occupation and kill them for trying to feed their family. I know they made a pregnant Palestinian woman deliver her baby in the dirt at a Israeli checkpoint because they wouldnt let her cross to get to the hospital....I bet you didnt see that on CNN or any other news channel ....and you still support these people....Gods chosen people??? Well not me....God would never choose such a cruel nationality to be his chosen people....if he did then i think Gods wrath will soon fall upon them........like it has before......

I agree with Facebook completely. They should be allowed to make policy for content allowed on their site, which a used must abide by. Arguing with that point is equivalent to telling your employer what they are allowed to wear to work.

If you don't like the policy Facebook has,(even though when you registered you agreed to their terms of service) don't use the site.

Mike   December 31st, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Rick,

Love your show but one minute of broadcast followed by 2 minutes of commercials?? Really, does CNN need to make all their money during your show?

Help,
Mike

Obama is the next president of United States of America and that's that it doesn't matter if he lives in the White House or not his speech and his commitment shows he is president material.

abe zieff   January 8th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

Rick, I saw your interview with Brizinzski. Aman who wrote in his book that America shoud have a Soviet Union type of govt. Of course his boss Carter agreed with him. Carter did every thing he could to weaken this country. Let me name a few . GAVE AWAY CONTROL OF THE PANAMA CANAL.AFTER SAYING HE WOULD NOT DO SO. Deposed the Shar of Iran so the present gang of cut throats are now in control.Gave our secrets to North Korea Don't let me forget the 16% interest and higher taxes we sufered under him. FOR ALL HIS GREAT WORK HE RECEIVED THE nOBEL pEACE pRIZE.what a joke. Much as i did not agree with a lot of things Pres. Bush did ,had Carter and Clinton done their jobs properly we wouldn't be where we are today.

Paul Cormier   January 21st, 2009 3:08 pm ET

Rick: Who really cares what Russ Limbaugh says or thinks? The more radical and controversial he is, the more money that goes in his pocket. He is profit driven. He's milking the few who want to hear what he has to say.
